Baraset Barn in Stratford-on-Avon

Booked a table for 6 people at 7:15pm. Got there at 7:10 and after standing around for 10 minutes, we got sat down in the bar area. Waited another 10 minutes for put drinks orders to be taken. Given menus and waited another 30 minutes for food orders to be taken. Finally got taken to our table at 8:20pm over an hour after our booked time. Finally our food can e at 8:50pm… food was great albeit very small portions. Fish curry was good but the world’s smallest amount of rice. When the bill came the service charge was already on there. Our group personally do not like this as we prefer to give a tip for the service and the food NOT on the percentage of the overall food & drinks. Sorry to say that eating over 1 & 1/2 hours after table was booked is pretty poor. Whilst the place is lovey the service was slow. Either hire more staff including more chefs or take less bookings.

Excellent service and a great menu with fantastic food. We were looked after very well, by knowledgeable and attentive staff. Will definitely be back, and recommending the Baraset Barn to friends and family!

I enjoyed a 70th birthday bash here at Baraset Barn with 18 close friends, and we stayed over for 2 nights. Every meal we had was delicious, well presented and very well served by an able team. It was the perfect venue for a get-together for us all, and our rooms were supremely comfortable, beautifully furnished and very, very clean. The Baraset Team are obviously close knit and work extremely well together to present a well oiled machine. With team members like Maggie, Norbert, Luke, Charlotte and Caitlin just to mention a few, it will continue to be one of our favourite places to visit, dine and stay. Long may you continue….

Decided to arrive a little early to have a drink at the bar, the maitre d' gave us approx 3 minutes to look at the menu before asking for our order. We were then taken to or seats and our meal was served within minutes and 20 minutes before the time the table was booked. He poured us water spilling it all over the table and threw the bottle back in the cooler. Not one word was spoken and the water not mopped up. He had a face like thunder and was certainly not welcoming. The young waitresses were attentive and polite. An older lady then came in and she only asked customers she obviously knew how their meals were. We were made to feel very unwelcome. The food itself was good, and the cheese board was excellent. We will not return. Customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

Sunday lunch with family. Service was mediocre and cold. Apart from a nice lady who brings the drinks. Waiter was aloof. Starters were good however lunch wasn’t. Cold roast beef, horrible cabbagey greens and a cold Yorkshire. The rest had fish which was average . Menu hasn’t changed in years and needs too. When reading the menu back to my elderly aunt the waiter shortened the sticky toffee pudding to an STP- she was confused and questioned him. He said it’s like an STD. Fairly funny but inappropriate especially talking to an 80 year old! Won’t be returning

We came here to celebrate a family birthday after a recommendation from a friend. Upon arrival we immediately were made to feel uncomfortable due to the woman (presumably manager) shouting at a waitress right in front of us. Upon being seated we were pressured to order drinks without being offered a drinks menu, with the member of staff sighing when we asked for a few moments longer. The food couldn’t be faulted it was delicious! However, this was overshadowed by the general feeling of unwelcome and being rushed.

Staying for 2 nights. From the moment we arrived, I knew I would have no complaints. The bed is so comfortable and the rooms are tastefully done. I love that it’s not a big hotel. The staff are amazing and the restaurant too. The food is amazing. So close to the centre of town. Highly recommend. Will def visit again

The hotel was super clean lovely location the rooms were amazing and love the balcony doors we sat and had a couple drinks watching the sheep in the field the bathroom was amazing with a very good shower ! We had a table booked at the restaurant the food was just unreal I had the chicken skewers to start and the steak for main cooked to perfection ! The staff were all very good we had a young lad serving us very professional and friendly will defo return Thanks

Fautless! Maggie & her team including Caitlin & Foxy made for a great evening to celebrate a friends 60th in the private dining room. We were quite a large party but everyone agreed the food and service were excellent. Great atmosphere and a memorable evening - thanks guys, we'll be back!

Always been good at the Baraset , Maggie and the Team excel. Beautiful, stylish restaurant with outstanding staff. Always busy ,so make sure you book in plenty of time. Today we visited for Sunday Lunch and I have to say really wonderful, the best Roast Dinners we’ve had for a very long time. Stunning Beef , really tender , beautifully cooked. The Roast Potatoes , Yorkshire Puddings and Vegetables plentiful and outstanding. The Pork Roast was equally memorable . Followed it up with a lovely Passionfruit Brûlée Apparently the day before our visit the whole Restaurant was booked for a Wedding Party . What a great way to start your married life with your friends

A really great venue which we have been using for many years with well trained attentive staff who are always on the ball, whether you are calling in for just a casual drink or a full blown function you will not be disappointed. All the staff deserve a mention but particularly Maggie who runs the show so very well and Luke who goes that extra mile. ( good luck Luke with your journey home to see the family) look forward to seeing you on your return.

Unfortunately my starter, the duck liver pate was very poor, it was a congealed pot of pate that had an awful, almost solid, texture and tasted awful. All four of us then had the Sunday roast, two beef and two pork. Yorkshire puddings come with the beef but not the pork so we requested them. When the vegetables arrived it was one small dish that we thought was between two, so we asked for another. When the bill arrived the Yorkshire’s were £1 each and the veg £3.50. Fair enough for the Yorkshire but not the veg. The younger staff were excellent but the so called experienced ones were quite off hand, bordering on rude. We love the venue and ambience but will not be returning

6 of us went for a family catch up. First time for 3 of us. Great first impression, very helpful about elderly Father and allowed us to drive right up to the front door. My husband is dairy intolerant and struggles in restaurants but for the first time that he can remember (barring Thai cuisine) he was able to have 3 courses without anything being altered. (although they did seem like they would be helpful to accommodate him) In fact all the food was amazing, well cooked and presented. Nice to be able to move from the table to have coffee as our 90 year old Father struggles on dining chairs.

We have visited the Baraset Barn many times. Understand to be "The flagship" Lovely Pub. Food never disappoints, the restaurant decor and hospitality is impressive. I have never tried the attached accommodation - next on my list.

Food was really good and setting excellent but overall experience disappointing as a result of being really rushed. Courses arrived way too quickly. Wine poured every time we took a sip - just felt as if they wanted us to leave the table as soon as possible. They were busy and it’s clearly very popular but not sure I’d go again despite the excellent food. Didn’t feel valued as a customer

This is the 3rd time I've visited and every single time I've been made to feel extremely unwelcome. I have young kids (well behaved and we always tidy up after them) and I get the impression they don't like you visiting with children. I visited today and they were so rude I felt the need to write a review and warn people so they can go elsewhere. They are part of the 'lovely pubs' chain and the one in Bromsgrove (The Queen's Head) is so much nicer, if you aren't a million mile away from there I would definitely go there instead.

The food was lovely, delicious, well presented and well cooked. Starter cooked to my taste - no complaints at all, will definitely be back.

Food was beautiful, but luke warm. We were approached after our main meal and asked if we would like a dessert, but the waiter never came back to take our order! Half an hour passed and we asked someone else, who turned out to be the manager, if we could order desserts and mentioned that our first request had been forgotten and he responded by being curt. We addressed him for his curt attitude and he said “what’s wrong with my attitude”? He was dismissive and obnoxious! We will not return. Very disappointed.

After having our evening meal in the restaurant, we proceeded to the bar to ask for a bottle of water for us to take to the room . The complimentary water they advertised on their TV is Harrogate mineral water, but in your room they actually provide decanted tap water , decanted into a little bottle with no lid left on the side all day ,not in the fridge . The mini bar consists of a bottle of milk for your tea (not tea pigs or nesspresso as the tv menu suggests ) So after asking for a bottle of water to take to the room , I was given a bottle of the horrible decanted tap water that they also give you at your dinner . When given the grubby decanter of tap water I said I didn’t want tap water ( as I could decant that myself in the room 😂) I wasn’t being rude I just politely asked for a bottle of water , saying I would pay as this was my intention !!! Same as if I had asked for a bottle of wine for the room . To then not be asked if I wanted sparking or still just thrown at bottle of water with the lid taken off !!! Sorry for trying to make my stay comfortable as I’m a paying customer . £5.40 for the water and made to feel really uncomfortable by asking for the lid !!! I then asked for a tea bag , oh well !!! How dare you ask for a tea bag as well !!!! Well we had used the ones we had in the room earlier. I was told where the tea bags were located in my room🙈🤣🤣 I know where they were ,but only had peppermint left . So again made to feel like I was asking for a free lunch !!!! It’s a tea bag and not a tea pig one at that , a nice tea bag to be fair . Spoilt our stay by being made to feel this was over a £5.40 bottle of water and a couple of tea bags . Update your television menu advertising in your rooms to show that there’s no mini bar , tap water only and don’t even ask for an extra tea bag !!! I would have paid for the tea bag even at an over inflated price ,like the water . Just to have home comforts, at over £200 a night stay you’d expect this to be a basic provision!

The restaurant is beautifully furnished and the building is lovely . We were really impressed on arrival and joined our friends on the mezzanine. We were beautifully looked after by our Australian waiter so all good so far . But , and it’s a big but ……two of us are vegetarian and the options for lunch were really disappointing….. only two options. I had the tagine which was delicious but the only other option was pasta which my partner chose . Our friends both ordered roast chicken . When the food arrived our friends were presented with very generous portions of chicken , roast spuds and a huge bowl of veg. My tagine was delicious , but the pasta was absurd……. The smallest portion imaginable …..it would have looked sad on a saucer let alone a dinner plate and to add insult to injury it was more expensive than the roast Sunday lunch . We flagged our dismay to the waiter and also when settling the bill . We were reimbursed £20 which was appreciated but the dining experience was so disappointing …..and frankly ridiculous. Had the chef or management ever looked at the portions on offer and considered that it didn’t make sense? And of course one of us left very hungry . Sadly we won’t be returning because it appears that vegetarians are very much overlooked here.

Weekend away Pre Xmas celebration. Wow service from start to finish 5 star .We stayed in room 6 wow. Luxury bed to die for home from home. Restaurant wow Maggie , Chris and crew make us feel at home as before. We had Xmas Menu spoilt for choice . Evening 5 star then top it off breakfast for a king in the morning. Thank you guys see you 2024 for sure xx

My husband and I held our wedding lunch for 18 guests, in the mezzanine on November 11th. It was amazing!! The food, the atmosphere and the service were exceptional. Maggie and her fabulous team went above and beyond. We can’t thank them enough for making our special day so wonderful. We also stayed in the hotel which is lovely. I have booked again for lunch in December as it’s my birthday, we can’t wait to come back.

Wow what a beautiful restaurant, we booked a room at the hotel as a last minute stop over and it did not disappoint. We were greeted by Sally and made to feel very welcome, even though the restaurant was full they managed to squeeze us in for lunch. Once in the restaurant the decor, ambience, staff were fantastic ( just wish it was closer to home) the food was exceptional we had the rustic bread, which came with pomodoro and garlic with a side of olives and the chicken for main. The chicken was so succulent and well presented. Maggie who looked after us was a delight and an excellent front of house. If you’re in the vicinity it’s a definite must to visit you will not be disappointed. Oh and the breakfast this morning was just perfect thanks again for a great experience. Kerry & David Armstrong

My wife and I called in on a Monday lunchtime to have a drink and a snack in the bar, but also to reconnoitre the suitability for a 2 night midweek break in October 2024. I am a wheelchair user and we entered the front conservatory, with the bar at the end and about 4 steps to the main dining area. The French barman looked up sullenly and just said ‘you can only go in here’ - pointing to the tables and chairs in the conservatory. We sat down and looked at the menu - clearly aimed to attract 2 and 3 course diners. However, there were light bite choices so we ordered from a much more welcoming waitress. She explained there was wheelchair access at the side of the conservatory up to the main dining level. The food and drink were fine. The toilets were all behind the hotel reception desk, and at the same level as the conservatory - so far so good! We wanted to check out the disabled toilet. The man at the reception desk looked up (non-commitally) and pointed behind him ‘toilet’s there’. A very narrow corridor led to 3 narrow doors - ladies on the right - gents straight ahead. Gents and ladies doors opened inwards. The narrow disabled door opened outwards. I had to square up to the door frame to get in - about 5mm each side. I got about half way through the door and hit the wc pan. The only way to use the toilet was to stand up, hanging onto the various rails, and push the chair into the corridor to shut the door, Obviously I couldn’t have used the loo without someone helping me. The receptionist was completely disinterested in the proceedings. We didn’t enquire about our potential booking for 15 people which could potentially have brought in £4-5000 next October!

Great service , lovely venue . We booked for lunch with my very elderly father and we were put upstairs ! Was not made aware of this when I called . Food used to be good but the last three times I have been it’s been average . Suffice to say we won’t be returning any time soon . We had the parfait , it was tasteless ! Soggy bread with it too. The roast potatoes on the Sunday lunch taste like frozen ones . And no extra gravy offered . Disappointing Sunday lunch.

First time visit but not the last. Excellent atmosphere on a busy Sunday Roast .A warm welcome from mine host and excellent service provided by Kaitlyn who was attentive and interesting. The roast was tasty and enjoyable. A successful birthday.

Went there for Sunday lunch, the first time in quite a while and all I can say is, it will not be as long until next time! My wife had a glass of champagne and me, a beer while we looked at the menu and selected the following, all of which were enjoyed. For the starters, it was scallops for my wife and tuna tataki for me, the latter being a little on the small size. For mains, it a whole sole for my wife which she absolutely loved and for me, the roast pork which was at the expected standard. A Sancerre accompanied my wife’s main meal while I had a Shiraz which I thoroughly enjoyed. Where we sat was pleasant while all the staff involved in serving us were friendly and very helpful As said, it won’t be too long before we go again, next time for an evening dinner.

I called to cancel a dinner booking and a rude man answered the phone giving snide remarks I can hear. Unacceptable behaviour! People like him should not be answering the phones. I felt belittled and insulted with such display of disrespect.

Sunday lunch party for 23 guests could not have been better. We have had many family events including a wedding , at Baraset ,it is our first choice of venue, it never disappoints All the guests on Sunday were delighted with their food , Jill ? and the team of servers could not be faulted so professional The maestro Maggie orchestrated the event to perfection amazing thank you for a memorable event

The setting is absolutely beautiful. We were warmly welcomed by Tyler (at the entrance/bar) and then we were really well looked after by the excellent Jill who had a great rapport with everybody she was serving. We were expertly guided through the menu. We couldn’t have been made to feel more comfortable and happy. The barn is a superb setting. A great place to get dressed up and go to. The staff were dressed smart casual. The guests were dressed smartly. We were there on a Monday lunchtime. It was perfect. Busy enough, but Jill was able to spend enough time with us. The food……..top, top, top class. All of my all of my senses were stimulated by the subtle tastes of the starter, main and dessert. The food was so good I asked for the name of the chefs so that I could give them a mention on here. Thank you to Louie, Mark and Sam for your applying your skills and making it a special dining experience. It was great value for a very classy 5 star setting, food and superb service.

We have been to this restaurant many times for dinner with family and the food and service is always excellent. This was our first time staying overnight in the very comfortable and well appointed hotel. This is a restaurant and hotel which holds itself to very high standards and their attention to detail shows.

A returning 'patron' as its one my friends favourites. Lovely rural location. Ample parking. Clean, well maintained........In brief - excellent all round - from the welcome, the service, the staffing and the meal. No faults whatsoever. A very nice experience and I left fully satisfied and happy. Staff from front of house (although we sat outside under cover as weather was great), to boss lady and others are to be complimented on their service and efforts. It really is a lovely place and they must have great and hard working chefs behind the scenes. Food well presented. It was busy even for a lunch time but we were not rushed in the slightest as an 'in and out'. Best to book ahead though to guarantee a table. Highly, highly recommended. Thank you all for making my day and my friends so pleasurable and enjoyable. Well done. I shall be back.

Four of us went for lunch. I’d booked on line, leaving credit card details. I also telephoned 4 days ago to add one more to the party. On arrival, we were greeted by a sour faced French man, who I can only assume was the front of house. He couldn’t find the booking and was to say the least, very abrupt and not at all welcoming! He also seemed to think he was doing us a favour by finding us a table. Although there were many other empty tables available…….. Fortunately however, the food was excellent…….not spoilt by the nasty taste left in my mouth by our less than friendly welcome. Why, when the hospitality industry is still suffering, are people so damned rude? I’ll think twice about returning.

Good food, well presented and a well-judged wine list. Picked three dishes from the specials menu, the spicy soup, the seared scallops and the John Dory thee were all excellent. Also picked the rolled belly pork from the main menu which was quite a plate full. Did comment that the green beans were supposed to be a vegetable not a salad but this is quite common these days. A nice selection of wines by the glass which allowed the sampling of the Domain G Tassin Sancerre, the Gavi ‘Aulico’ and the Olarra Rioja Crianza ‘Otonal’. The Rioja was especially good as was the 2005 Quinta do Retiro vintage port. Dessert was a Daiquiri sundae which was nicely indulgent with rum sponge, lemon sorbet, white chocolate and coconut ice cream. Nice to see some restrained pricing, no expensive water charge, and a reasonable service charge.

Setting and welcome was nice, however the food was not. Despite stressing to the waiter about allergies within the group (waiter did not note this down despite two requests) contaminated food was served which has lead to severe illness. Avoid!

Slow service, table for four booked for 1.30pm food served at 2:45pm. Fish overcooked and hard. Vegy meal small and overpriced. Beef burger okay but slightly overcooked. Not the meal we were expecting and certainly not as good as previous occasions.
