We hosted our engagement party here and I can't recommend enough. Led and the whole team were fantastic - really communicative, attentive and kind. The venue is absolutely beautiful and the drinks/food were great.

Great place, it was a little quiet when we went but service was good, staff were great and drinks were very nice. I would definitely go again, perhaps later in the evening.

Great little bar for liquid refreshments and nice nibbles. The décor, drinks and energetic ambience are its standout features. One of the best places for cocktails in the area. Staff is very friendly and attentive to our queries..We went there to celebrate a birthday for an office colleague. Our birthday girl got a bit rowdy at some point but they managed her craziness with good humour and grace. Rare to find a place with such great upbeat vibes. .. and wow! a pétanque court. Music can be a bit loud sometimes but hey. it’s a bar! We ordered a selection of pizzas and those insane cocktails. A perfect way to spend an evening.

Really good spot we didn't meet Alex was a huge relief! Was a bit apprehensive from the reviews, I can say its safe to go now!

Lovely cocktail bar with a fun pétanque court for added amusement. It’s quite small and cosy, perfect for a date or a catch-up with a group of friends. It’s underground so has a bit of a wine cave vibe. Their drinks menu is incredibly extensive, and they’re lovely, but they’re also super expensive. Then again, that’s pretty standard for London at the moment! Staff are very nice. They let us have the court for an extra half hour (since we started late) and only asked us to politely vacate because there was another booking, otherwise they would’ve let us carry on.

Visited for a private event. The Venue is very interesting and has made great use of the space with a mix of open areas and private areas, plus a surprise or 2. Staff were brilliant, very friendly and helpful

Very fun place - you can find there a piece of south of France drinking your Pastis and playing petanque : yes, you heard me there is a french boule court !! With its old advert on the wall and the gravel ground, it is like being on the central square of a Provence Village. The bar tender and all the rest of the staff are really friendly.

Really good club, with good food and good music. Also it features an incredible indoor "petanca" lane. Good for gatherings and afterworks

We had a lovely experience at Baranis. The decor and overall theme of the bar transports you, and the service was very friendly and accommodating. We had so much fun playing Pétanque, a very unique experience. Just keep in mind that you need to book in advance and demand is high. We didn’t order any food but the table next to us did and it smelled delicious.

My wife and I had our joint 40th birthday at Baranis in July 2022 and I can honestly say it was amazing. Led was our contact and he made the process so easy for us. He was mega responses to all of our emails and really accommodating for all of our requests. On the night the whole team did a fantastic job. The hosting, food and bar service was so on point. Loads of our guest had nothing but nice things to say about the event and the venue. We would definitely recommend the venue and we would definitely hold another event there.

One of the weirdest bars I’ve been to, house wine was awful, pizzas were so bland and dry and the staff weren’t attentive at all! Our orders got mixed up despite literally being one of the few people in there. Wouldn’t recommend!

Cocktails were nice and I liked the decor and the novelty of the patanque, however the music was just a bit too loud to be able to hold a conversation, which is the reason for the 4stars

Petanque is just a great drinking pass time

Visited on a busy Wednesday with my boyfriend, over all service was good, cocktails were enjoyable, and the music was French themed. I also lost at petanque so def coming back to win!

Took a visit with friends for a birthday drink or two. Great venue with open brick charm and art on the wall. A well stocked bar and knowledgeable able staff that can make drinks whether they are on the menu or not. Great little find that we will definitely return to.

I have never been anywhere and been treated and felt so insulted in all my years of cocktail bars. This waiters name is Alexandra, and is quite clearly French as he pointed out many times during our service. He has absolutely zero patience - my husband and I were asking Q’s on the cocktail menu and the waiter (Alex) was so condescending and patronising. I was just asking about the amount of ice in the cocktail and was shot down with utter rudeness like I was from another Planet. He literately said to me ‘have you not been to a cocktail bar before?!?’ He was rushing us to order even though there was no queue. instead of speaking in a polite and calming way, he bashed the bar table multiple times and said ‘so what do you guys want now?!’. He was acting like he had been serving us for the last half hour, when really it had been all of 3minutes. I have been to many cocktail bars and usually always ask which ones come in martini glasses as I prefer without ice. My husband likes a stronger boozier cocktail, everyone’s preferences are different and mixologists always understand that and are happy to help. This is the first time I have ever experienced this sort of service. Judging from the review below from Oct21 I would assume they were also served by Alex!

Very strange service in here. Waiter was actively rude and obnoxious and had an energy about him that was like he was on a certain powder beginning with a C. An example: I ordered a pastis, usually served with water, he refused to bring the water and criticised me for ordering the drink how it should be served. Apparently o don’t know anything about pastis according to him or how to drink it. He then went on a ramble about how pastis / absinthe is made for about 5 minutes and about how he recognised her from the northern line. Me and my girlfriend were unsettled by him. There were a couple more strange conversations like this, another one being we came in I asked for a Ricard, a brand of pastis, he turned his nose up and asked me to order again, I again said ricard, and he replied “say that again and you know where the door is”, implying I hadn’t ordered a good enough pastis. what sort of waiter says that as your first interaction with them? I had booked a pétanque slot online, which required a deposit, there was no option to pay when I booked so I assumed you paid a deposit when you arrived. Not the case apparently! You have to get back in contact with them to pay this deposit. Weird. Why make it so hard? Anyways to cut a long story short we were very disappointed when we arrived and we couldn’t play. We wanted to leave, I had previously put my card behind the bar to start a tab, as we were originally planning to stay for a game of pétanque and a few more drinks. I had to ask for my card and to settle the bill at least 4 times over a period of 45 minutes, to be fobbed off, each time as the waiter was dealing with someone else. Not a nice experience, we were really looking forward to play pétanque and visiting baranis as my family are from the south of France and I wanted to introduce my girlfriend to the game. I can’t understand why to booking system is so protracted and I certainly can’t understand why the waited was actively obnoxious.

I love this place and they have a fabulous restaurant upstairs. The manager George allowed us to shoot a video interview in a private dining room to the side of the restaurant and did not even charge us extra. Very accommodating. Thanks for the great service.

The place is good for a big group as you can order drinks, food and play. Quality of the food is acceptable, not the best but okay to nibble while playing baranis. Don’t expect a brilliant wine selection but just a bit more average, again the place is entertaining to play baranis. Ideal for work colleagues as you have an activity and makes it less awkward.

You can't pick a bad cocktail and the staff are lush

Great unique cocktails prepared by a warm and welcoming staff. You will like the atmosphere in this vaulted, cellar type place where the music cheers people up. And most people seem to be French, which is great / terrible depending on your personal experiences :-)

Loved the petanque, but half an hour want enough to really get into it and we couldn't be sure of making the minimum spend required to reserve for longer (I think £80 from memory) at a pub we'd never visited before and went sure if we'd like.

This place is cool but it is very small

A large selection of cocktails but they taste quite funny. Also the staff appears to be bored or lost patience even though we were the only people in the venue and we kept it simple and low profile

We had a reservation at a restaurant next door for dinner so we went there for aperitif. Very quick waiter spotting us Coming on in Spitsbergen of the crowd. Very efficient service and kind. Good vibes with music and people playing boules. People of different age

I visited Baranis as part of a team-building day with work colleagues. We were left to play pétanque with the written instructions, and the bar staff just came over to take drinks orders which was fine. The pétanque itself was fun and the cocktails were excellent. Overall I enjoyed the bar and would visit again.

Très déçu... tout simplement parce qu’on a traversé la ville en transports en commun pour se rendre dans ce lieu qui semble sympa (Pastis, pétanque...!!! Quoi de mieux pour un Français). Bref, nous arrivons à 22h45... Ils ferment. Sur le site Internet, ils disent qu’ils ferment tard... un samedi???? À Londres??? Même à Bourg-en-Bresse, les pubs ferment plus tard! (Commentaire d’un Français frustré à Londres!)

Tucked away on Chancery Lane. A very quaint bar that has an extensive cocktail menu in the heart of London’s law district. Sitting behind the Old Bank.of England building you Are on the basement level in what presumably was an old vault . One of the only establishments open along Chancery Lane on Saturday nights.

Overpriced food, but great place to play petanque and drink pastis or ricard

J'ai organisé il y'a quelques jours mon anniversaire dans cet établissement. Nous étions une trentaine et j'avais fait privatiser le terrain de pétanque. L'endroit est très sympathique, la décoration est belle et en prime le terrain de pétanque qui change tout ! Le seul bémol serait le personnel. On nous a fait comprendre après 23h00 que c'était le last order, et à minuit après avoir fait le chiffre d'affaires de leur soirée, on nous met gentiment à la porte, d'une manière très impolie. C'est bien dommage et regrettable car l'établissement a beaucoup de charme.

Really lovely staff! I had amazing cocktail, it was lychee and lavender martini, really good. We booked to play petanque, which was really fun. Also had bar snacks of mini pizza and chicken shewers which were tasty. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Wanted to thank all of Leds team and Celine for helping us host our Engagement and Birthday party on Saturday, a BIG BIG THANK YOU!! All our guests loved the venue and atmosphere! We wanted the pizza flavours adjusted slightly for our guests and Baranis was very accommodating to help. The team had everything ready for our DJ, serving welcome drinks as new guests arrived, topping up our pre ordered drinks seamlessly, getting pizza ready to serve based as and when the guests arrived, to cutting the birthday cake for our guests. Was a fun night and has left good memories for all our guests, thank you so much for making our evening a success everything was impeccable!

Whole attitude of the staff in a not busy bar was that we should have sorted it out ourselves and it was our fault for not knowing how the booking system worked. Made for a really happy birthday, obviously. Would advise avoiding this bar like the plague if you expect decent service.

So much else in the area, why bother with this. Cold, lacked atmosphere.

I arranged in advance a booking for Petanque a month in advance! I emailed the bookings team to edit the time and received confirmation via email. I had also booked online via design my night for the day before however cancelled this with a member of the Baranis team over the phone, this had not been modified which meant upon arrival we had no spot to play Petanque. After showing the email trail of communication to the manager, he went out back to look over the original conversation to make sure I wasn't making this up.... At this point we had ordered drinks and were ready to play. Upon return, I asked the Manager what could be done and he said "nothing." He was really rude and abrupt and quite frankly didn't care or try to help us. I often take clients to Baranis and the experience is positive. This will not happen again. Luckily we were saved by an amazing barman who was extremely relatable and understanding, he made space for us by delaying another booking He was extremely helpful and had great customer service skills. He saved our Christmas outing, however it affected our overall experience!

We decided to go for some coctails before dinner, and had found this bar nearby the hotel and the restaurant. There were only one other party as we probably came early, so we god very good and attentive service. We all tried different coctails, around three each, and they were reasonable priced. One lesson learned. If you don't like anis, don´t even think of trying the coctails with it, especially not the Lady Killer.... We ordered another one instead.... But we enjoyed the rest. Nice choice of music as well, and not too loud, so all six of us could take part in one conversation. Too often, I think, the music is so loud you can barely talk to the person next to you.

Great selection of cocktails as well as nibble specialties from Nice and Provence. Would definitely recommend it for people missing the pétanque (there's a terrain inside the venue) and local drinks.

One of London’s great hidden gem bars. Class setting, great bar staff and the Pétanque (which you don’t need to book) is the icing on the cake. Great for work events too!

Absolutely a great place to have drinks with friends while playing at petanque. Fantastic cocktails too.

Very disappointing experience and rude staff. We tried to book a spot on the petanque court online. We didn't receive any confirmation e-mail about our booking, so we called several times without getting a response. We finally just decided to go in at the scheduled time, but were treated unprofessionally and never allowed to use the petanque courts.

Great place for a drink and the petanque lane (boulodrome) is a great addition. The bar is on the lower ground floor so you don't get to enjoy the weather if it's nice outside. A great place to come for a drink though and the staff are friendly. You can book the petanque slot for free on their website.

Whilst Cigalon upstairs turns out delicious food - albeit in not overly generous portions - served by friendly and attentive staff, the real gem here is Baranis downstairs. Run by an excellent team, they have a nice selection of off-beat wines, make excellent cocktails and serve great food. For locals this is about as close to Cheers as it gets and the bar's strong support from local workers is a testament to the team's hard work. Great for parties and smaller groups, this is a much loved favourite.

Stumbled across this bar on a Saturday night pre dinner. Lively atmosphere and friendly staff. Good range of cocktails available, all freshly made and reasonably priced too!

Great little bar with boule court, lovely cocktails and nice french nibbles. We went on a Friday night and there was a bit of an after work drunken crowd there, but as we were in a little booth we were able to ignore them :-) Music can be a bit loud sometimes.

Fantastic french cocktail bar. I organized a party there for my company so that everyone could give a go to the very famous pétanque game. They loved it. You can book a semi-private area. The staff was very nice and helpful although hey didn't wait for me to arrive before serving my guests which made it complicated for me to manage our budget.

Really good bar. Has very helpful bar staff who bring drinks too your table. Not too busy although you generally need to book the petanque alleys quite far in advance on the website. They also do some nice bar food.

We went here last night for a work function, having booked a table for 10. When we arrived we were put in a corner where there was enough bench space for four people and two tiny cafe-style tables. We had to go around the place (fairly empty at this stage) looking for unused chairs, of which there were plenty.

We hired Baranis for our corporate Christmas drinks' reception and it was the perfect choice. The venue is a big enough to be spacious but also has a lovely cosy, intimate atmosphere. The staff was excellent throughout the whole process and made sure we had a fantastic time on the day. All the cocktails are delicious and the addition of Petanque adds a welcome extra piece of entertainment. Would definitely hire the venue again for a private party and return for drinks any time!

Superb. Best bar in London that I've found in 15 years. The staff are interesting and very caring of their customers, the cocktails are awesome and the petanque is a wonderful diversion. Oh and the music is cool.

great location however there was a terrible smell through out and a member of staff (gentleman) wasn't very friendly. It also felt as though the heating was on which wasn't very comfortable whilst playing petanque.

This place is associated with Cigalon (restaurant) in the same premises. We only went in for pre-prandial drinks and nibbles and were well satisfied

Great bar. Had a lovely time there for a private function. Only complaint is when you want to play boules it's next to impossible to differentiate the boules. They need to be a bit more different.

Reservamos para un evento social trabajo para jugar a la petanca y petanca. Siendo un entusiasta de la petanca me adapte la petanca "pitch" un poco, pero era una fantástica noche que como grupo era un éxito del 100%. Personal muy agradable y servicial. Sin duda vale la pena un juego de petanca.

Esta semana visité Baranis con un gran número de colegas. El bar en sí es precioso y es un gran lugar para ir después del trabajo con colegas ya que está justo en el corazón de Londres. Pedimos una variedad de comida para nuestro partido y el equipo de baranis informó de que tenía una alergia al maní y preguntó si esto podría ser atendidos. Si usted sufre de una alergia, sabrá que puede ser todo un reto comer fuera (especialmente como un montón de lugares independientes será prudente para satisfacer aquellos que sufran de alergias). Sin embargo, nos sirvieron por Frank, que era absolutamente excepcional. Comprendió la alergia y sabía que podría fácilmente ser atendidos. Él hizo todo lo posible para servir a nuestro grupo y él repetidamente comprobado espalda durante toda la noche. Muchas gracias, el servicio genial y volveremos pronto!

Yesterday my wife and I were lucky enough to be treated to a taster evening at Baranis. Fantastic evening, wonderful service and a brilliant choice of wine & nibbles. All in all well worth the money and well worth a visit

Me encontré con este bar una noche el viernes de la semana pasada. Un lugar precioso, con mucha personalidad. La comida también era genial que no esperarías de un pequeño bar. Todo el personal es muy amable y hablador y el servicio es excelente. Sin duda volveremos y la próxima vez lo haremos un partido de petanca!

This is a gem bar in the city. Led, the manager and his staff provide a great service, always welcoming. This is for sure a bar not to miss for your corporate events, date or a drink after work with your friend.

Cool place where you can enjoy some French-inspired drinks and a game of petanque... the latter definitely sets it apart from other bars. I however made the mistake of having too many Absynthe cocktails in a rather short timespan. Won't be doing that again ;-)

A casual relaxed environment to play Pétanque with some drinks. Make sure you book in advance to be able to play. Good atmosphere and decent central location.

Actualmente nos sentamos en mi escritorio de enfermería una resaca F5 ahora en posesión de la carta de cócteles Baranis totalmente responsable. Reservamos el lugar para nuestra fiesta de Navidad en la última noche y no puedo recomendar lo suficiente. Por todo lo de trabajadores EA/PA, su proceso de reserva, pagando, cata, de facturación y de ayudar es inigualable. El director era un anfitrión Led impresionante. La comida deliciosa y el servicio magnífico. Creo que hemos encontrado un nuevo trabajo después de bar! La pista de petanca es una gran idea. Yo simplemente no darse cuenta de lo competitivo que en realidad soy!

Top notch venue, yet hidden in the city therefore not known much but the bigger crowds, but this place is one of the best I visited in London. Nice layout and very good service provided. The manager is also very professional.
