Bar Unico in Lincoln

This is a review for the original Bar Unico in Lincoln as opposed to the monstrosity that has replaced it in the form of Crazy Appetite. Bar Unico was the best place in Lincoln for coffee and breakfast. Its replacement is dire. The main reason for posting this review is as a warning to potential customers for Crazy Appetite. This is not the same place and isn’t worth your custom.

The most miserable vibe from the woman behind the counter as soon a we walked through the door! Now known as ‘Crazy Appetite’, we certainly won’t be visiting this venue again. No smile or being made to feel welcome and she seemed irritated being asked even a simple question. We did notice that she was reasonably pleasant and smiley with other customers who happened not to be of an obvious ethnic minority. How sad.

First of all, this restaurant is only open lunchtimes. It’s not even a restaurant. It’s a café with about four or five small tables.. I went here as a special birthday treat because I was told by the reviews that this was a super place to have pizza and something very special. I was surprised when I arrived to see there was not any pizza on the menu and there was no red wine either.. Luckily, they had some red wine and the pizzas were on special, but there was only a choice of two of vegetarian or a meat feast . The pizzas were nothing special they were nice but no better than what you’d get at Prezzo or Bella Italia.

Why change the menu? Used to be our favourite go to place but they’ve recently changed the menu which I think is a change for the worst. Had the pulled pork sandwich, the pork wasn’t pulled at all! Was just the thin sliced pork you’d get in a packet from the shop. Really disappointing. The staff are nice but the food .. I doubt we will be back :(

My favourite place in Lincoln!! The most delicious pizza and gelato, and the friendliest staff. Would recommend to everyone!

Anastasia and the team at Bar Unico are always welcoming and friendly. Wonderful food and hot drinks. A quaint little place with a homely ambience. Keep it up, ladies.

They're mushroom rissoto the best I've ever had!! The chi latte is scrumptious. Not much space inside the cafe, so avoid if you've got a pushchair. Lovely little gem in the heart of Lincoln 💕

Amazing place!! It's great for some delicious coffee & cake but the pizzas are something else it's the best I've ever had!!

Lovely breakfasts - try the smashed avocado, or just poached eggs. Well cooked and presented. GF options available (GF bread), with items marked on the menu.

A relaxing oasis in the city centre. Stop here for coffee and cake or, as I did, a light lunch while I was waiting for a train. I had pizza which was, as described on the menu, a light lunch. Don’t order this if you want a gut-busting pizza as it’s not that type of place. The pizza was good (but not exceptional - not sure the pizza base was made on site) and my wife’s sandwich was good, too, with top quality ingredients. Love the atmosphere and the decor is smart.

Short visit for a birthday gelato with my daughter: we sampled pistachio,chocolate and strawberry and it was yummy!

I am a huge coffee lover and Bar Unico, in my opinion, serves the best coffee in Lincoln! The service and staff are amazing, highly recommend! 💯

I recently attempted to have a coffee here and wanted to sit outside, however the outside area was full of smokers so I went elsewhere. Although I must say I recently visited their Horncastle outlet which was devoid of smokers. 😁

Been meaning to try here for a long time, it did not disappoint, the food was glorious. I had the unico special pizza. All fresh and made in house. Also because I had a nice seat in the window I goto see everyone else’s food pass by, which too looked amazing. The service is fantastic, greeted with smiles and a warm welcome. I throughly enjoyed my lunch here and I will be back again to try some other things. It’s also worth noting that they do offer gluten free options!

We rate the food and service highly, however last Saturday was the 3 time we've been on a Saturday afternoon and either couldn't order food or were given only 1 option, on all occasions this has happened 2 hrs or more before the stated closing time. This has been all the more frustrating as we go out or way to eat there as we enjoy it and prefer to support independent businesses, if full menu service ends at 2 please state it.

Went to private casual gathering for a 6oth birthday celebration on Saturday evening - great venue for 20- 40 people, the service was very friendly and the buffet (vegetarian) food they provided was excellent - much better than most buffets. I don't live in Lincoln, if I did I would be going to the cafe during the day

Rented this venue for a 60th birthday party.Had great vegetarian buffet,which also catered for lactose intolerant and vegan dietary requirements. Everyone praised the food even the meat eaters. The staff were great as was the service. Would recommend this as an excellent party venue.

We had a minestrone soup which was delicious then I had a mango tart but it didn't taste of mango it was very bland

I had the Bar Unico breakfast and my wife has the salmon and poached egg on toast both of which we good.

Ordered pizza but fairly plain. Nothing out of the ordinary. Cakes and desserts looked good... perhaps next time.

I've had many nutella milkshakes from this place its a lovely place. The staff are cool especially the huge guy with a beard he's a very nice guy; I'd want to play a game of chess with him. I really recommend also I love the glass the milkshake comes in.

The best coffee in the city centre! I usually have soup or pasta, always fresh, really tasty. I'm looking forward to trying the range of gelato in warmer weather! Great service, good value, a lovely place.

I have been coming here for years- on my own, with family and friends- and I have never left disappointed- the staff feel like friends- they are so kind, tolerant and considerate- it feels like family- they go above and beyond- even if it’s the first time they have met you, the food is delicious- thank you for being here - alsways leave feeling content/ comforted - happy new year to you all x

We just stopped for a coffee here one Saturday. It's a pleasant little place with friendly staff and the coffee was good. The cakes looked great but we'd not long had breakfast. Some people were also sitting outside having delicious-looking flatbreads so this is one I'd like to revisit for lunch.

Excellent products, fast service. You cannot beat the piadina. Authentic Italian taste.

A friend hired this in the evening for a private 60th birthday party. Fabulous venue. Food was excellent . Staff where friendly and attentive. Also me and my partner regular go for coffee and cake and have always had a good experience

I visited on a Saturday after with a friend. We had coffee and beer and they a good number choices including dairy-free milks, Almond and Soya. It was rather busy but a very nice Italian cafe. I will definitely return soon 😀 Best Coffee shop by far

Best place in Lincoln to get ice cream! I come here regularly for their tiramisu ice cream which is miles better than the gelato they have in the Mediterranean. The rest of the food is mouth-wateringly delightful too. I’m usually served by a lovely blonde lady called Jess who is always smiling and welcoming. She has a great presence, good banter, and adds to the charm of the bar. I’ve always felt safe and happy here at Bar Unicos due to the friendly servers who are very attentive. Bar Unico literally feels like you’re relaxing in another country, and trust me, yo tengo familia en espana, and Bar Unicos takes me to the Mediterranean coast with their good vibes and great drinks/foods everytime. Coming here feels like a getaway, a blissful escape, and warming ambience. After living in Lincoln for over 10 years, I won’t have tiramisu gelato from anywhere else ❤️

Best place for ice cream and coffees that transports you right to the Mediterranean ☀️ Shout out to a server called Jess who is very attentive and friendly. Amazing little spot that does some really delicious food

I went on my own and again with my cousin. My particular coffee order and table preference was remembered. Coffee was good, also filled croissant was well worth the short wait. I have confirmed recommendation to rest of family.

Fantastic independent coffee shop just off Lincoln High St. Coffee had good flavour and was reasonably priced and their ice cream and milkshakes are without peers. Great place to take a break whilst struggling with the grind of shopping.

My husband and I stopped here for lunch before catching a train and absolutely loved it. The food was delicious, the coffee superb, and the little patio was cute! We had the Bruscetta Special and the Burrata Salad- both absolutely delicious. Highly recommend for a lunch if you’re in the area and in the mood for some fresh Italian!

Excellent service. Delicious food! Perfect drinks. Iced coffee is probably the nicest I’ve ever had. Also had an Aperol spritz which tasted fantastic and just how it should be made. Couldn’t recommend enough. Warm friendly welcome! Well done to all the team for making this a lovely place to visit.

Since being introduced by a good friend many years ago (who knows good coffee and excellent food!) I keep gravitating back to this place for meetings.... Whilst the likes of Costa and Starbucks do 'nice' coffee, Bar Unico does beautiful coffee and amazing cakes with a family atmosphere. If you want a taste of how coffee should be you must go to Bar Unico!!

Coffee delicious as always. Staff very friendly and helpful. Today I had lemon pancake and I can honestly say best one I have ever tasted. My husband had rustic toast and marmalade. Again very tasty. Bar Unico always our first stop when we visit Lincoln.

We ate here for the first time yesterday. It certainly won’t be the last. The food was delicious, the coffee was excellent and the cake after was absolutely to die for. All that along with really nice friendly staff is a winning combination. Add that to a very reasonably priced bill and you have the perfect formula for customers who will return. Like us!!

The coffee is superb. Everywhere is spotlessly clean. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is fabulous. A jewel in Lincoln's crown and very central.

Popped in for breakfast while visiting the Xmas market, food was delicious and served quickly. Cappuccino was lovely, I almost felt (wishful thinking maybe!) that we were in Italy :o) Will definitely return when we're back in Lincoln.

Favourite place for coffee, popped in with my boyfriend a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed an oat milk latte and slice of courgette and lime cake. Nothing beats it! Couldn’t recommend Gio and the team more.
