Bar + Block Steakhouse in Birmingham

Visited twice in two weeks. Given that the steak was very tasty, on the first visit, it was barely warm. The sauce and chips weren't much better. On the second visit, there was a slight improvement for the whole meal. My main issue was that I don't understand why they serve hot food on cold plates. Once the meal is ready, get it to the customer asap.

We ate here last night and ordered the Chateaubriand for two, asking for it to be medium rare. It came out to us beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. Each accompaniment - the chunky chips, asparagus, tenderstem broccoli - was delicious. I sought out the chef to compliment him personally. A humble young man, Tyler, who was genuinely pleased to receive my feedback. His passion for his craft was evident to see. Well done Tyler. Your Chateaubriand was amongst one of the best I have had.

We only pop in for a quick drink from time to time, never that busy so it's good for one drink.

First visit here, had the block burger which was lovely, proper burger that tasted like beef. Friend had medium rare rump steak that was a little too rare in the middle but it was a thick cut of meat. Friendly staff and nice place in general

Had a great dinner and breakfast, whilst staying at the adjoining Premier Inn. Had the crisps chilli calamari and sirloin with peppercorn sauce. The calamari was tasty and succulent. Not at all chewy. The steak was perfectly cooked. Breakfast was also a winner. Constant refilling of buffet meant food was fresh and not overcooked from sitting under hot lights. Well definitely visit again.

Lovely food and exactly as described.

For some reason they couldn't do my single draft lager before the main meal came. The short rib was nice, the bun too small, could do with maybe a bit of lettuce or something. The Mexican fries not worth the effort. They are just fries with mayonnaise and some bits of tomato for after at the bottom, the coriander gets stuck in your teeth. It's quite pricey but fine for special events.

Finally, a place where you can comfortably eat at the bar! The atmosphere is calm, clean, and bright, with excellent staff and impeccable service. The food is great, and the location is both cozy and conveniently central. I will definitely return for a steak!"

Visually inviting restaurant, unfortunately the food is completely overpriced. My burger cost 19 pounds and tasted absolutely boring and didn't feel like any spices were used. Fries were ok. Our steak was very borderline burnt on the outside. A self-important restaurant shouldn't serve a steak with black spots like that. Service average, waiter mumbles a question rather listlessly and quickly, we didn't get ketchup despite repeated requests.

Had a brilliant meal here tonight. The restaurant area was exceptionally clean and well presented. The food was spot on and cooked perfectly. I was served by Dagmara who can best be descibed as professional, attentive and jolly and is a total credit to the Bar and Block. A big thank you must go out to this young lady. I would recommend the Bar and Block as a good place to eat and look forward to my return visit. Well done all.👏👏👏

Burger? Stale bread so broke up. Burger was dry and fell apart very weird. Thr triple cooked chips are terrible. Did they cook them for 1 min each time? If I can get better ingredients at Aldi and make something 100% better if no experience then that’s well funny. Everyone’s stake was not good to their liking. Medium rare? Or blue I think they got confused with the orders. Very average cocktails

I was served by Brad and Jasmine at the bar Friday evening, and I found them both friendly, professional and courteous. It was a pleasure to have met them both, and they poured a mean drink as well!

I visited Bar + Block Steakhouse with my Mom last night before a show. We were greeted and served by the lovely Ellie!! She was friendly, smiley, polite and even helped with our decision of which cocktail to choose. She recommended the mango and passionfruit mojito, it was really nice. We both had steaks and a side of onion rings. The food came quickly and was really tasty. I will be visiting again soon.

Breakfast Was ok took tool long to get coffee in the morning as machine wss so slow but service very good

I have been staying at the premier inn here for the last 6 weeks one night a week and most weeks eaten here. Zoe and Dagmara have served me a few times and have been super nice and helpful. Service is prompt and with a smile and lovely they seem to remember their customers

The restaurant was clean and had a good selection of food for breakfast. I was served by Dagmara who had excellent customer service skills. Dagmara was polite and professional. I will be returning again.

Had great cocktails in the evening Staff very attentive and friendly and instead of letting us oldies wait at the bar which others were doing they brought drinks to us, next morn had a lovely breakfast help yourself as much as you want great choice not over the top and was cooked well overall was very happy.

Food was delicious and the restaurant was very clean. The staff were incredibly accommodating and approachable. Zoe, Dylan and Shannon were the ones who helped me during my two visits. All three of them were lovely, approachable and extremely helpful. All the staff were busy but took the time to chat to the customers which is always a nice feeling. All round good vibes. 15/10.

I visited for my 21st birthday celebrations with a group of 12 people. From the start, it was clear that the staff were overwhelmed by our group. They seemed frantic while taking our orders and didn't confirm them before serving. This set the stage for what became a mini disaster. The starters were excellent, but the issues began with the main courses. About eight people ordered skin-on fries, which arrived stone cold, while the accompanying burgers or steaks were piping hot. It seemed like all 12 dishes had been left under heated lights for 5-8 minutes before serving, resulting in the cold fries but warm main dishes. Additionally, my grandfather ordered a well-done steak, but it came out rare/blue. This was very disappointing. I'm not usually one to complain, but this level of error is unacceptable. Furthermore, none of the staff checked in to see if we were satisfied with our food; we had to flag them down to address the cold dishes. Lastly, some of the waitstaff seemed untrained. One younger male staff member, in particular, displayed poor body language and spoke without enthusiasm. While the food itself was decent—especially the short rib burgers and steak sampler—the poor service and cold dishes overshadowed the experience. I might consider returning, hoping they don't mess up again.

Disappointed. We had been before when visiting Birmingham so returned. It was not too busy on a Saturday evening but they sat myself & son at a very small table. Server was attentive and food came quickly. My fish was lovely but would have been happier with rice or potatoes instead of chips. Tried to use my blue light card but as no internet I could not!! They would not accept the actual card so had to go to the hotel to use their internet to apply the discount. I feel that could have been handled in a more professional manner.

Really mean portions. I had 3 slim slithers of the beef brisket burger and a cup of chips. Thank goodness I exchange the bun for a salad otherwise it would have been really sparse - awful. Shame as the food was OK. I could have got a nice main at the Ivy for the same price. Not good. The staff were nice enough but really didn’t know what to do when I showed my disappointment.

A bit quiet . Arrived early and althoughonlinrvi could not book table till 7.44, there were numerous available instantly. Excellentx steak , chips and Eton mes, though presumably they were trying to be healthy and portion ochipsxwere measly for a 14oz steak . Helpful staff

3 of us turned up on a late Sunday afternoon/early evening and was greeted by a lovely lady call Zoe. Zoe took care of us for the evening & was great fun whilst still being professional. The drinks kept flowing whilst we waited for 2 hours for the rest of our group to turn up, as they had broken down. The only reason I gave it a 3 for atmosphere is because we were late and this Sunday evening was quiet. I have been there on a number of occasions and the atmosphere is is definitely buzzing on a busy night. We kind of enjoyed it being quiet though, as it was a Family catch-up & it meant we could hear each other.

Stayed in hotel above. Food is good but over priced for what it is. Menu has error around the added extra and Manager was quite confrontational about this. Other staff service was good but manager let the service down. Atmosphere is no existent quite like a morgue.

Went here whilst on a business trip, good steak and service. Would highly recommend the onion rings and fries they were fantastic.

We had fillet steak it was so tasty cooked to perfection.. Drinks expensive but you get table water my only complaint was the noise the group on the next table was a group of 8 girls on the buy one and get one free cocktail, screaming shouting being silly!! Eventually the manager came over to speak to them….

Amazing Service by Libby, great cocktails by Tash, would highly recommend for a bottomless brunch.. also got a free pud for my birthday 😊 Will definitely be coming again 🥳

Second visit to Birmingham by bike and also to this smasher of a restaurant - cycling all the way down from Sheffield gifted me with an appetite that I might not have otherwise garnered on time As before, my choice had to be the Big Block Burger, a massive patty accompanied by fries and a full bowl of onion rings (certainly worth the extra fiver) then the Churros ice cream sundae -their definitive trademark dessert - as if my boots weren't already loaded. Thanks have to go to the friendly staff once again, notably the young lady who served me and found nothing too much trouble, including me talking her to death about the old Birmingham race circuit amongst things. Strictly a restaurant I recommend to anyone visiting the city, or resident and yet to discover.

Excellent meal here yesterday! Steaks perfectly cooked and the chimmichuri sauce was to die for. Really relaxed atmosphere and perfectly paced for date night

I've visited Bar + Block on numerous occasions with my husband, and we both absolutely love the food! The food is always cooked to absolute perfection and comes in generous portions. There's a great selection of drinks, both hot and cold, and soft and alcoholic too. The steaks are stunning, and always come with chunky chips, fries or a salad. The staff are always so welcoming, friendly and really lovely. They're also very cheerful and greet everyone who comes through the doors. Bar + Block is a fantastic place to visit to try different steaks and indulge in some gorgeous food and drink. Bar + Block is also ideally located near Snowhill train station, making it easy to get to. I recommend visiting Bar + Block 100%, the food and service is top notch!

Let down by very bad service. From the manager I believe. As upon asking. Speaking and treating customers like there next to nothing. I put in a formal complaint. Rude, attitude of management. As I observe management awful and staff attitude very poor. For the prices shocking, never again!

Libby provided excellent service and as an individual with allergies I want to commend my chefs Gabe and Terry for the wonderful steaks !

We were looking forward to this visit as we came in to try the sunday roast but the host said we had to book, so we booked for the week after for sunday roast. Came in and on arrival the host told us there is no sunday roast left even though we booked for it. A bit disappointing but we already booked so we sat down for a meal anyways. It wasnt that busy so not sure why it took so long for someone to come and take the order. The waitress was nice but that was it we order less starters and then 2 steaks. Extremely expensive and the taste below average. Not sure why they call themselves a steakhouse, they are not even close to it. After having our starters had tp wait for 25 minutes for the mains while we looking at the other table getting sunday roast served, was a bit confused how we could not get it but they did. No one was around to ask, so we just waited for the mains. Would not recommend, unfortunately. Very disappointing food and average service.

First time visiting Heer so I wasn’t sure whether it would be good or not food was amazing sources are really good and Kirstie our waitress was really helpful really friendly and made it a beautiful experience

Worst steak experience we have ever had . We went to the restaurant because of a secret Birmingham review. , and the steak was one of the worst i had ever had . I asked for my ribeye cooked medium and it came out over well done i had one bite and it was like leather , also if i am paying close to £40 pound for a steak i sort of expected real chips not frozen chips . To be honest i have had a better meal at weatherspoons

Our party of 5 visited early on a Saturday evening. Immediately we all commented on how good the services was when the bouncer/door man came inside with us to look for our booking, as nobody was at the front of house station. He then made sure our table was ready whilst we got a drink from the bar. Not sure if this is always part of his role but we all mentioned how we appreciated that he made sure we were looked after as soon as we arrived even though we wouldn't normally expect that from the doorman. There were a number of ingredients unavailable from the bar that meant they weren't able to do some of the drinks we originally asked for. Due to a medical condition of one of our party it was quite difficult to chose an alternative drink from the menu but Emily, our server, was brilliant. She was making suggestions and offered to check with the bar if they were able to do certain things to accommodate the requirements of one of our party. We really appreciated this additional bit of patience and good service as it doesn't happen everywhere! Emily continued to serve us with a smile the whole time we were there. She was brilliant. We all really enjoyed our food, although disappointed they'd also ran out of ingredients for the mac and cheese. But everything we did have was lovely! The main thing that let this visit down and why I haven't given it 4 stars are the toilets. The restaurant itself feels really nice, well kept and classy but is let down by the toilets. On my visit there was an odd smell and the floors were dirtier than I'd expect in a nice restaurant. I know it can't always be helped as staff can't be in there constantly cleaning up but it just felt disjointed between the atmosphere and experience in the restraunt to the dirty feeling in the toilets.

On a recent trip to Birmingham we came across Bar and Block and decided to give it a try. Received a warm welcome and had a really nice two course meal which my husband and I both enjoyed and reasonably priced as well.

We had an amazing time here, the food is great, and the service is fab! The food was so nice, I recommend the steak! We will definitely be back!

Went for the lunch deal. Small portions. Average taste. The sandwich was genuinely disappointing in the size.

Popped in at 630am for a breakfast buffet As it was only just after 6.30am the food was hot. Fruit was not that fresh and could have been better. Hot drinks machine was OK. Due to time, there was only 4 customers

Wow words fail me…. Ordered 2 8oz rumps took ages to arrive…. One steak was no more than 5oz so sent it back and was assured it had been weighed and it was! Been a chef for 20 years and I know better. We were expected for my wife to eat hers and then for me to wait and eat mine after she finished… we just left and went next door to Fumo’s to get quality food and excellent service

The Sunday lunch is a big let down. Staff are lovely but the food really lets the place down. Beef is extremely overcooked with no flavour, roast potatoes are more like frozen roast potatoes you could get from a supermarket, veg is bland and the roast carrots and honey glaze parsnips are awful. Such a shame that we went on our anniversary :(

Amazing food, atmosphere and the best staff! I went to bar and block tonight with a group of work colleagues following a team away day. This was the perfect end to our day. Such a great place to cater for everyone including allergies. Our waitress Emily was brilliant and provided the best service. Shannon was also brilliant, so friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful to us. Thank you to you all for really making our evening. This place is a must try and we will be back very soon.

A mid week evening and relatively quiet. Enjoyed an excellent steak dinner and drinks at the bar afterwards. Friendly and relaxed and thanks to Shannon and the team and a special mention for Olly om the bar. Will be back again soon.

Well, we had booked this place months ago , for our pre wedding deer do for myself and husband to be, with group of 16 friends! Everything from start to finish was perfect! Could not fault the afternoon, the food, and bottomless experience. Dagmara, was friendly attentive and explained the whole concept , also managed to sit us all together , but everyone there from the waiting staff to the other lady manageress who took over after dagmara's shift , she was excellent too! This was our first time for bottomless, but will return soon!

What a dreadful experience. So let’s start with our being seated. We arrived on time and were walked to wait - that’s fine, then another employee came and asked us the same questions - and took us straight to a table - result. We ordered - all good, starters came (tiny) and then the wine was literally plonked on the table - so we not get a wine cooler? One of our party finished her starter (.others hadn’t) and the plate was cleared now I am not a food service expert but I have always been told that you wait for all to finish before clearing - anyhoo - the mains - arrived - all cold - no problem they say we will redo - and very nicely offered us another bottle of wine on the house (thank you). Then the new mains arrived - cold again - how - how can 3 steaks and one chicken burger be cold again - we gave up and said forget it we will eat elsewhere. Needless to say not impressed and will not be returning or recommending (oh and before anyone asks no they were not busy it was 5pm on Sunday).

This was the 3rd visit in a month,its our go to place in Birmingham at the moment. Excellent Service water for the table always brought straight away, service by Zoe our Waitress excellent and informative starters and Sunday lunch was excellent real value for money.

Having been here before and really enjoyed the food, I was excited to come for a Sunday roast. But it was such a disappointment. Beef which should be medium was well done chewy and dry, roast parsnips weren’t cooked through, roast carrots were still raw and cold, then you only get gravy on half of your plate. The only nice bits were the Yorkshire pudding and the roast potatoes. My friend had the chicken which he said was nice, but rest of the plate had same issues with things not cooked properly. Would not recommend for a Sunday lunch; unless you like all your veg undercooked

We ordered 3 steaks (not cheap at at £36 a steak) plus a burger and spinach and mushrooms. Everything was luke warm with the exception of the mushrooms. The management took the food away and the replacements were no better. The management gave us free drinks and in the end we all gave up and by agreement left without paying. I would really struggle to recommend this place, though I will give them the benefit of the doubt - an off night or lack of staff perhaps?

Had a very early evening dinner about 6:30 pm on a Wednesday evening. All seemed good until we got the food absolutely shocking two stone cold steaks. When we sent them straight back the waiter actually took the chips off the plate left them on...

Only problem was we a party of 10 had to wait such a long time for food and drink

When we arrived at the restaurant we observed a few disgruntled customers, some were leaving their table to grab their pints from the bar as service was taking too long. We had found it amusing until we realised we were going to feel the pain also. After waiting a long wait to order drinks, we then had to wait even longer just to order food. Whilst waiting, we had to ask repeatedly for someone to come and take another round of drinks order. The food finally arrived but minus one meal, which they failed to inform us was not available. So there was another long wait whilst eating cold fries and our mains whilst our friend sat there starving. The final meal finally arrived after we had finished and wanted to pay and leave as it was late. There were other unhappy customers, one left as it took so long to cook their dish. One had a discount after a complaint. The reasoning was apparently they usually see Monday as a quiet night - it was only a quarter full, if that. If we had someone giving us a heads-up or genuine apologies for a slow service then they'd at least get some sympathy, but to be honest, I don't think they really cared.

Service was good and atmosphere. Food was nice but basic. I ordered Sirlion steak and chips. There was no vine tomatoes, onion rings or a bit of salad to make it look a bit more presentable @ £24.. Apparently if you upgrade to £30 you get a bit more for your money. Just a bit disappointing. If you wanted onion rings etc you had to pay., which I know is the case in restaurants.
