We met some friends for dinner, as the restaurant is part of the Hilcroft Hotel, where we were staying. We also had breakfast as part of our stay. The dinner menu has a reasonable choice, and competitive prices, although we felt that the menu and environment was closer to a good pub restaurant rather than a hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful in catering for allergy restrictions. The food and service was generally good, although tea and coffee orders got mixed with those for another table. Breakfast was the usual buffet and cooked service arrangement with a good range of choices. Overall we felt that if a "Good" rating was available on Tripadvisor, this would be more appropriate than "Very Good"

Had a lovely meal with my daughter tonight fish and chips were lovely and good sized portion but there desserts were so good I got the carrot cake which was so nice my daughter got the meringue which was huge I had a taste and it was delicious the staff are super friendly and polite definitely be coming back 🙂

Lots of deals advertised to entice customers but the food isn’t great. Unsure if it’s frozen but just isn’t restaurant standard.

We had a wonderful family dinner last night at 108. The kids had the most scrumptious fish and chips (we ordered off the adult’s menu). We ordered the garden salad and curry special. It was so flavourful and delicious. 108 also has the best playroom for the kids. We were able to plop the kids there after their dinner and enjoy a couple of drinks afterwards. Highly recommend.

Very poor. Slow service for lunch which I could live with had it been worth the wait. Dry meatballs, tasteless fish . Extremely poor quality. Place has went dramatically downhill . Expensive poor quality fare.

Birthday lunch . Service ok to start, food not the best . Easter Monday, but not that busy. So couldn’t understand the lack of service. Waited 30 minutes after being given dessert menu for an order to be taken. Apologies from waitress for our wait & not charged for dessert . Won’t be back. Prompt & efficient service is a must as well as good food. Staff lacked direction.

Very disappointed with our visit. Sat us at the window, was so cold, got moved. Ordered food, came back no steak pie! The restaurant wasn't even busy! Ordered fish, my husband ordered haddock mornay @£14.50 each. My fish was greasy and my husband's mornay was half a bit haddock! He often orders this when he's out, first time to have been served half a fish! Won't be back.

I booked the hillcroft for a funeral tea for my daughter which was very disappointing, the food was terrible ! Sandwiches too thick and hard , scones were not very Fresh and although they were meant to come with cream there wasn’t any .people me at the funeral commented on the food not being great and a lot of it was left there also didn’t seem to be anyone in charge with everything! The one positive was it was a lovely setting. I paid a lot of money for the occasion not worth what we got.

Awful! Absolutely awful! Menu is minimal and not even a beef burger on the lunch menu. Worst birthday lunch ever ! No apology for waiting over an hour for a mere sandwich. System failure was the only explanation. No discount offered! Will not be back. I did wonder why it was so quiet. Now we know. Don’t have food here there are so many more local eateries with better food an service

We visited the hilcroft for my birthday and were looking forward to it but after ordering we waited from 12:30 - 13:30 before we were served our food. The waitress came to explain the machine never passed the order to the kitchen but there was no apology and when my mother expressed her dissatisfaction with the waitress she laughed it off which I thought was very unprofessional. We were never approached and asked if we wanted another drink after slowly slirping away at our drinks for an hour. Absolutely horrible service, nothing was taken off the bill as an apology and definetely NO TIP deserved. We were frequent visitors here and I can say we won't be coming again, such a let down and on my birthday of all days.

Pleasant atmosphere, lovely, helpful staff, Pedro? went the extra mile, especially since it was a special occasion. We were a family of 6, steakpie and the fish and chips were delicious. The veggie burger and the steak and onion sandwich were however very disappointing, both were unfortunately tasteless and lacking. The restaurant was quite busy for a Thursday afternoon which is promising, so we might just have been unlucky. I personally wouldn't return.

Lovely lunch in here with good Scottish food. We had lovely service and a nice table. The steak pie was especially good. I will return soon.

Something needs to be looked at regarding the staff one in particular is obnoxious and extremely rude, I dont know how she has got away with it this long without management noticing

Sirloin steak £27+ we've been there a few times and when we went for the first time after lockdown. We were of the opinion the prices have been well hiked up. We wont be back. My advice find a chippy, its cheaper.

We held our wedding in this hotel in febuary 2019 everything wasso perfect and very professional and have returned for many meals after and all were a high standard, however last night the staff in the restaurant wernt as professional as previous visits. Then there was the meal we went as a group of three I had a starter what was up to the usual good standard, then we all went for the steak and chips dealwnat was rather disappointing the small portion of chips was not nearly enough containing about 8or9 chips the steak was about 4or5 inches in size but was poor quality with lots of grissle and fat but the peppercorn sauce was good but no other food on your plate it was disappointing,then we started the pudding which was merruang and fresh raspberry s and cream .the meringue was brick hard and certainly not fresh the raspberry sauce overwhelmed the tablespoon of cream,we asked for more cream but then was brouught pouring cream disapointing.my wife is a professional cook and said it was a lazy style of cooking, afterall when it cost 75 pound you expect something good it Wasnt.wont be back.

Reservation made few days prior. "Celebration of life" Meeting up with family members from this area for this occasion. Party of eight. My first time in hotel. I was so pleasantly surprised. Outstanding menu with varied selection. All food was scrumptious, served hot as should be and soups flavorful. Dessert choices YUMMY wish I had one of each. Next Time!! Service and all staff were outstanding. Certainly made for a most enjoyable afternoon.

Ate here with family and friends. Most enjoyable, food was really good. 6 of us dined and everyone thought their food was good. I would recommend dining here. Staff very friendly, accommodating and friendly.

In for an early (6pm) dinner while staying at the hotel, and felt it was a bit odd. Not too crowded, and was directed to a table, followed by a long wait for a menu, then another to order. My drink seemed to get lost, though, and I had to remind the waiter when my starter arrived.Food was good -scollops in a sort of spring roll, then piri-piri chicken on rice. A lager I had not tried before - first pint was good, second tasted "odd" but not odd enough to complain about.Price was reasonable, but service left, I felt, a lot to be desired

Great American themed restaurant. Comfortable booths. Safe were friendly but a bit slow at times but it was busy so don't want to moan too much about it.We had Steaks, Ribs, burgers and Steak pie. Nit the biggest portions I have seen but very tasty. Pie was stuffed full with lovely rich gravy. Presentation not great but its a diner so wasn't really expecting much.Would I go back. Yes. Tasty and good prices.

Wednesday night 7.30pm and only two other tables are occupied. The menu clearly states that it may take up to 30 minutes to cook food - my starters took about 15 minutes and my main came about 10 minutes after I finished starters. So that is fine. Food was ok - haggis fritters and burger & chips main so wasn't expecting wonders. But I was surprised at the lack of service. The lady who seated me and took my order was professional but very indifferent/impersonal. No small talk, no hello and welcome, nothing - felt like she wasn't fussed about my business. The younger woman, wearing pink, was friendlier and smiled. The man who served my drink was not a happy bunny. I'm not expecting painted on smiles or acrobatics but a bit of niceness goes a long way.No one checked if my main was ok, no one asked if I wanted another drink. In fact I started writing this review as the woman gave me the dessert menu - no staff member has entered the restuarant.I did expect better. Oh well, tomorrow I will dine elsewhere.

We visited as a family earlier this week. Had a nice table beside the window. Got the choice of a Christmas menu or the normal menu. Which I'm glad we had the choice as I didn't fancy a Christmas meal. Kids menu also had a good selection and a decent price.

Four of us went to bar 108 on Wednesday and we were not disappointed. I had not been back for about 3 plus years at least after an unpleasant lunch. It has changed inside since then. It has a very warm and welcoming ambience and is ran by a well oiled and friendly staff. There are two menus offered but it’s a no brainier this time of year and we plumped for the Xmas menu. If I remember correctly it was just over £12 for 2 courses and just over £18 for 3. I may be a little out but you got you money’s worth in the portion sizes. My only criticism would be that apple and rhubarb crumble should be just that and not arrive as a tart with a little bit of crumble inside. Couldn’t get my spoon through the pastry of tart. All in all it was a very good lunch with a very reasonable bill at the end given we had a drink each and coffees. I am glad we booked a table as it was busy. And yes. We will be back.

Absolutly beautiful. Shown to table, drinks order taken straight away. After 5 mins ofderwas taken and drinks arrived. Food was reasonably quick and was excellently delicious. Defiantly recommend breakfast review to follow

This is a lovely restaurant. Drinks are a bit pricey but if you want a good meal at reasonable price this is the place.

A family run hotel which caters for functions and weddings. The restaurant is a comfortable size and the cuisines is very good with a wide variety. Also does a number of tribute nights throughout the year

We are staying here so we've eaten dinner both nights. The food is really good, and they have a very nice selection. We are light eaters so we're pleased to see some lighter options, but there's something for everyone. The desserts look delicious although we haven't tried them. The people next to us had a strawberry dessert and said it was "wonderful". Prices are reasonable and service is good.

I am staying with friends in Whitburn on a short trip to Scotland. They know this place well and we were 6 of us for dinner last night.

We had booked a table for dinner here as it was my birthday. The young waiter was very attentive but the woman who came in a little later & who seems to be a supervisor spoils it. She is rude & lacks proper customer service skills. I have had several experiences of this woman answering customers in a rude manner. If you comment on anything she jumps down your throat in a defensive manner.

This is a lovely place to come for a meal with friends there is lots of menu choices food is good too

Italian or Spanish waiter had a bad attitude, not very friendly, was made to feel like we were a problem. Plates left on the table while he chatted to a customer at the bar. Both waiters spent time staring out the window with customers waiting. No one checked to see if we were happy and no condiments were left on the table. Lots of basic mistakes.

We were a party of seven for dinner and a slight delay in preparing our table was not a problem. We ordered a whole variety of starters mains and drinks and must say everyone was delighted. We have had some slow service here in the past but on this occasion service was prompt and presentation was good. Some dished can tend towards the pricey side but the quality is really good. Worth giving it a try as it is just off the M8 and offers good access to free parking too.

A huge thank you to Colin and Claire my Husband and I had won a voucher for a overnight stay for bed and breakfast a year ago and we were going to use it for our 42nd Anniversary but my husband ended up in hospital and was critically ill and was 6 weeks in hospital 4 weeks that was spent on a ventilator the voucher ran out in October and I had forgot about the voucher I came across it and I spoke to Claire at the Hillcroft and she took my phone number and spoke to Colin and they honoured the voucher. Thank you so much for a wonderful overnight stay and dinner was excellent

Un grupo de 40 de nosotros disfrutamos de la comida de Navidad en el Hilcroft. El restaurante estaba muy lleno, pero a pesar del tamaño de nuestro grupo, el servicio era excelente. Había algo en el menú para satisfacer a todo el mundo y a un precio muy razonable, con una variedad de 2 platos por 14 libras. 95 o 3 cursos para 16 libras. 95. La comida era muy buena y bien presentada. Si había cualquier comida a la izquierda en las placas, es por la generosas porciones (especialmente la Turquía aunque parecía ser un rollo de comida precocinada en vez de un pájaro). Yo estaba un poco decepcionado con la Navidad budín. Porción parecían haber sido calentado bajo luces o en el horno, ya que se había convertido en crujientes. Una comida muy agradable.

Visited on a fairly busy Saturday wvening with friends. Nice table , efficient service. Starters of Tiger Prawns and pate well presented and good quality . Main courses, 2 rib eye steaks very tasty, again good quality, chicken mains also very good, rump steak and pepper sauce disappointing as was thin and fatty. Some vegetables would have been very welcome.Service very good, pleasant and efficient. Only downside was karaoke singer in lounge , far too loud. After our meal we retired to the lounge. Sadly we could not hold a conversation due to loud volume of the singer.We left earlier than intended. Food , service and quality was very good. Background noise not necessary .

We live locally and had not been here for a while and popped in for Sunday lunch with our 1 year old baby. I have coeliac and have to eat gluten free - not only did the restaurant have a great knowledge of gluten free requirements but also had a gluten free beer on tap which was fantastic. The kids menu was really good and the Sunday lunch menu was great value with a really high standard of food offered. The staff were very attentive and well managed too. We were really impressed and will be back really soon.

Very disappointed I booked for 10 of us 6 weeks ago and pointed out one of the meals had to be gluten free which shouldn't be a problem as it is widely available on the menu . When we ordered my mum decided on macaroni cheese for her main and as there was an asterisk next to it pointed out she needed the gluten free option unfortunately when it arrived and we luckily when she tasted it she realised it wasn't gluten free . I know mistakes can happen but this is a very serious mistake for someone with a gluten allergy and as it is widely advertised on the menu there should be a system in place to make sure this type of mistake just doesn't happen . Completely took the shine off of a lovely evening and something we wanted to be special for them .

Our third visit here. A great set menu 2 courses for 12.95 or 3 courses for 14.95. Attended for a 70th Birthday party and we supplied a cake and they supplied a large sparkler and staff singing happy birthday. We will definitely be back. Premises spotlessly clean, well decorated and warm. Staff were excellent again.

Staff always on the ball, asked for gluten menu, which is truly amazing. Fish and chops is to die for, however they have a wide range of food and try to adapt to your requests

We booked the bar 108 for my son's 18 th birthday for 25 family and friends in July.Service was excellent nothing was a problem, food was fabulous no complaints from anyone.Will definitely be back.Thanks to Colin and all his staff.

I meet a friend here for lunch every so often, usually on a Friday or Saturday. The a la carte menu is expensive for lunch. They have at times attempted to extend the snack menu which currently consists mostly of soup and sandwich/wraps/nachos etc. The food is ok but could be better. Service is also variable. We are usually attended to quickly but then at times staff seem to disappear. Last time I had to go up to the bar to obtain a glass of water which had been forgotten about, & the two staff debated in front of me who had forgotten to bring it. The restaurant is never busy when I've been there & I feel with a bit of imagination it could be much better.

Friendly efficient staff, great service and good food choice, good decor, great food with decent sized portions. We had the 2 course set menu with a good selection.Reasonable prices for food and drink. There was plenty of parking and we actually got parked right outside the front entrance. There is a well maintained children's soft play area that you can see from most of the restaurant. We will return again as my wife and I enjoyed it so much.

We went with our childen (3,4 and 8) and wasnt sure how it would go! As it turned out the settings and the staff were wonderful so we could relax. Then came the food- absolutly perfect! The 'kids meals' were fabulous certainly not the bog standard chicken dippers or sausages. Definatly worth a visit!xxx

The starter was nice, then came the main meal. I am afraid that half an aubergine with a few mushrooms covered in a crumble with a little cheese on it sitting on a sparse salad was pathetic. It would have been a little bit more acceptable if it had been served with the seasonal vegetables. It was quite tasteless and very poor value. The other meals looked fine.

We like the Sunday lunch menu ,it is served all day.The food is always tasty , well presented and good value , Scott and staff are very friendly.Look forward to going again soon.

visited here for lunch with my friend soup and sandwich deal for both of us and no complaints mushroom soup was really tasty as was tuna mayo sandwich on brown bread service was prompt with a nice smile only problem that day was the sound system which was okay one minute and the next it was blaring have been here a good many times and will be back

Husband and I have had several meals in Bar 108. Never been disappointed yet. The food was amazing. My husband had muscles to start. He said they were out of this world. So tasty and well presented. My Pate was so tasty. Not keen on the Pinapple chutney but that was a personal preference. Give me good old onion anyday. Mains were first class. My husband had the Steak. Done medium rare. He said this was perfectly cooked. Onion rings and chips were also tasty. My chicken was outstanding. Supreme of chicken. I need it in my life again soon. No space for desert but cocktails were to die for. Purple rain and French martini come with our personal recommendation. Staff were all young but very pleasant. Scott as usual was a delight and ensured all went smoothly. Thanks for a lovely anniversary experiance. :)

Out for a drive and looking for somewhere to have a late Sunday Lunch. Passing the Hilcroft Hotel and thought we would give it a try.Welcomed in and quickly show to a a nice table for 4, drinks order taken and given some time to look over the menu.The choices on the set menu looked excellent and we were not disappointed.Our food arrived and looked good and tasted great. The staff were attentive without being pushy.Some had 2 courses and some 3, it was no trouble and was quickly served.The restaurant is nicely laid out and looks recently updated.This place is well worth a visit. Will be back soon.

Yet again, excellent service and meal. 28 of us and not one complaint. Staff brilliant as usual, especially Margaret, colin and Pedro. Atmosphere great, and even our guests from Ireland couldn't believe how good this place was. Don't worry guys we will be back soon.

We have been here a few times, but most recently attended to celebrate birthdays (there were 8 of us altogether). New menu looked and tasted fabulous! Very generous portions and lots of choice. Service was fantastic; did not feel pressured to leave after our meal. The restaurant itself is very comfortable and modern. Will definately be returning.

This was our first time dining at the Hilcroft (Best Westin) on the recommendation of other family members and friends. We were a party of 8 with a reservation for 18:00hrs. The table was ready on our arrival and we were immediately seated and a drinks order taken. The service throughout was fast efficient, friendly but at no time did we feel rushed. The quality of our various meals was without exception stunning. The portion sizes were definitely on the more than adequate side and the total cost was exceedingly competitive and well below big city norms.

This place is a nice wee surprise tucked away in Whitburn. Comfortable furnishings, nice and light up a few steps by the windows. The menu wasn't huge but easily found several things I was happy to choose from. Nicely presented, really pleased to have vegetables not boiled or steamed to a mush but crunchy. Sweets really lovely too and again nicely presented.The service was good and the waitress pleasant and chatty. The only negative comment is the music. Too loud. It didn't help that we were next to the speaker, regardless it was too loud. Sunday afternoon is not disco night and we were there to eat, chat and relax. The staff did turn it down on request, but it was turned up again towards the end of the meal and was even louder than when we arrived.I wish staff and managers would think about who the music is for, is it the right type of music at the right volume for that time of day and for the customer who are there.This is the only negative comment, we do plan to go back as the meal and service was good, but if the music is too loud the next time will have to be the last time which will be such a shame.

As it's our local restaurant went again and was pleased that the staff still are attentive and keep asking when passing by if there is anything else required for the food I can't fault anything as tried everything from the skewed shrimps to the steak pie /macaroni all was well presented and hot the price range of menu caters for most and I found it to be good value example being three course dinner for four and four rounds of drinks all for under £70.00

This. Is my local restaurant and I felt it had gone off the boil for a while, but it's back to its usual high standards. Decent portions, exiting variety on the menu and great tasting food!See you again soon

We stopped off for a casual Saturday lunch and had a really nice time. Clean, welcoming and well presented with a good range of seating options - we sat in the bar rather than the restaurant. Friendly and helpful service - they were quite busy, there was a wedding in the hotel and lots of guests were having "pre-drinks" in the bar, but the staff had no problems in handling the wide range of guests. We had full main meals - venison burger and a venison shepherds pie. My highlight was beautifully cooked savoy cabbage! There is an excellent range of paninis, baked potatos sandwiches and soup etc for a lighter meal and they all looked delicious passing us. We had coffees and hot chocolate after which were great (no room for dessert)Parking is good and there are very smart toilets. We will come back - this is local to us and there are some nice walks nearby (Woodland Trust, Community Woodland)

A group of 12 workmates had lunch here last Friday. We all took the set Christmas lunch menu which was good value at £15 for 3 courses. Food was really lovely, portions were good size and service good. It's not often that no one in a group of 12 had any complaints but everyone was pleasantly satisfied with their meal.

After a busy weekend and a cold damp night, it was lovely to walk in to the 108 and get a warm welcome from the staff and see the glowing fire. Tables can be moved to accomodate larger groups or just small tables for one or two.The menu is always varied and the food served attractively. I love fish so had a tasty starter with smoked salmon and prawns ina a refreshing lemon dressing, a pleasant change to the usual Marie Rose sauce. My main course was a duo of Haddock and Salmon, both pieces of fish were cooked well and served in a leek cream sauce, which was very tasty. There was chicken and beef or a vegetarian choice as well. The desserts are always popular and again I was not disappointed with a Baileys cheesecake, served in a glass dish rather than a slice. With a choice of wines and other drinks the meal was a success and a good price. Sometimes it is necessary to book, especially getting nearer to Christmas but normally you can just walk in. I will be back again soon!

Was at the Hilcroft on Friday evening with my wife and once again we had a great meal and good service. We go to Bar 108 as often as we can and are never disappointed. The staff are always warm and friendly offering great advice on the menu and drinks on offer. We had chicken goujons for starters and I had the Venison burger with blue cheese for main and it was excellent. The place was buzzing with a birthday party, diners in 108, charity in the Strathern and another party next door. Once again great food and a good atmosphere.

Visited this restaurant again after some timeAs a largish party we had the short menu options but with enough choice to please mostWe ordered red wine (Spanish Rioja) which took an age to be served, thankfully water was on the table or we would have been thirsty !!Everyone found the starters good, my soup was very acceptableUnfortunately two of the steak pie mains were totally cold, these were replaced with apology Staff were attentive and pleasant Dining room was pretty busy A very good female singer gave a good meal a pleasing ambience All in despite the cold served mains a very good meal in pleasant surroundings with attentive staff

Had lunch in the bar here today to celebrate my son’s birthday. Lovely ambience and friendly staff. Three of the party had starters (highly recommend the mussels), four main courses and two desserts along with 2 large glasses of wine, a draught cider and four soft drinks. A pleasant surprise to learn the bill came to just over £85 which for the quality of the food and drinks, we were very pleased with. We will definitely be back again and next time hope to sit in the conservatory at the side which looked very nice and contemporary.

We have visited here a few times, but after the food we had today, we won't be back. The chef is obviously devoid of taste buds. I ordered the butterflied king prawns sautéed in garlic butter with a mango salsa and my husband had the minestrone soup. My prawns were already only Luke warm when I received them, not particularly tasty but ok. Husband said his soup was just ok too. I ordered the pasta with asparagus, broad beans and roasted garlic. The pasta was so over cooked it was mush, the dish was totally unseasoned and absolutely tasteless. I sent it back, explaining the problems and was asked if I'd like a replacement. I said as long as the pasta was "al dente" and it was seasoned and had some taste, I would like another. The second attempt was even worse than the first, swimming in cream and again mushy and not seasoned. It's embarrassing to send things back and when the waitress said she'd tasted it and it tasted of garlic and ok, I was taken aback. The first rule whilst serving in a customer focused environment is that the customer is always right. My husbands fish was hot but he said it wasn't particularly tasty. To be fair to the waitress, she did remove my dish from our bill and also a glass of wine was removed which I appreciated. She was pleasant and did apologise but I think the problems lie with the chef. There's far better places to eat and they're cheaper too.

Have been going to this restaurant for years so I think that says it all. Staff always pleasant and attentive some have been there for years so they must be good employers too. If you're not happy with anything staff only too happy to rectify.

I stopped here as I seen the sign open to public. I used to go there with my parents many moons ago when it was the Whitdale Hotel. The staff were lovely and welcoming, I decided on the tuna mayo sandwich for lunch. Beautiful very fresh and tasty. I must also say the toilets were just amazing. I would be tempted to stay there next visit, in the hotel not the toilets!

I have previously dined here with my son and the food was amazing and I said so in my review. So I was looking forward to my meal with my husband . The menu had changed since my last visit and on reading it I thought it a little pretentious. Also terrible spelling errors.. My husband had prawn cocktail as a starter which he loved. I had warm Cajun chicken which came with a very odd dressing ,also minus billed walnuts, it wasn't very nice.waitress did not ask if we enjoyed starter. Main courses ordered and my husband was happy again as he had the most amazing steak and chips.I had salmon with pak choi. The salmon itself was ok. not amazing just ok , but the pak choi was inedible . uncooked just awful and it came with a strange side dish that remains a mystery . on tasting it I am none the wiser.. different waitress removed plates and did not seem to notice I had hardly touched anything. We paid and left . again a different waitress. It was definitely a meal of two halves . The restaurant itself has nice décor etc. My only other complaint was the man in the corner table who will know who he is. I think he was a regular. He was very drunk and ate his lamb shank with his hands. Nice ..

After reading the mixed reviews I wasn't sure what to expect but liked how the menu read so decided to try for myself last night. I had a very nice meal and was very pleased. I had mussels to start which were perfect and a huge amount, tuna steak special for my main, I wasn't asked how I like it cooked but did still mention to the waiter I like it a bit pink but it wasnt pink at all it was well cooked through, however maybe it was a case of chef knows best as it was actually still very moist and juicy and I loved it. a trio of chocolate for desert which was fab. My mother had sea bass main and merangue for desert and really enjoyed both her desert looked amazing. All food very tasty, cooked to a high standard and everything is presented beautifully. I was fit to burst. Very reasonable prices too. I would advise anyone who's given it a not so glowing review on here to go back and try again as they clearly must take on board any criticism given and act on it. A good find

I am an occasional diner at bar 108 but have never written a review before mainly because it has never been outstanding but never been really awful either.Myself and my grandmother visited tonight and again had another so-so meal but we left feeling a little bit disappointed.We both decided to take two starters each and a dessert to share rather than full meals and were pleased we did. We both had scallops with chickpea pancakes with a pineapple sauce as our first course and enjoyed them - although I had a portion with 4 scallops and my gran had 3 which was a little odd.To follow I had butterflied prawns with thai mango salsa and my gran had the haggis, neeps and tatties with whiskey sauce. Neither were particularly enjoyable. The haggis was cold and the sauce was far too thick with no taste of whiskey. The waiting staff were happy to take this dish away to re-do but left me sitting with a meal of 4 de-shelled prawns and one un-shelled prawn already lukewarm getting colder and colder waiting for my grans dish to come back. In the end I had to eat mine and leave her sitting with nothing in front of her. I would have thought they would have taken both dishes away rather than me eating a course alone followed by my gran eating a course alone!We decided to try the trio of chocolate which we were very disappointed with. The ice cream was nice and the chocolate orange mousse okay but the so called mini chocolate soufflé was awful! It was completely liquid and still tasted raw - raw eggs and an older person are never a good combination so we left this completely untouched and questioned the person clearing they plates. He told us it should be a little liquid in the middle but definitely not like that and just walked away - no comment on how it was untouched and no nominal discount given for the fact we hadn't touched a third of the dessert which we found strange since he'd agreed it was not as it should be.We will probably come back again but only if we fancy a bite to eat and are bored of our regular places. The main courses and some of the starters are really different for the area but they don't seem to be executed particularly well which is a shame.

Really enjoy going to this restaurant. Scott, Colin and all the staff always make you feel welcome. The food is excellent and the service is second to none. Always a great choice, and the service has never once been bad. Would recommend this to everyone if you get the chance to eat here.

Have been a few times and the food is always fantastic. Mussels are fab and also steak pie. Waitresses/bar staff are all very nice apart from the female bar manager who I feel needs some further customer service training. Definately recommend a visit.

Being Going regular to the 108 my last visit which was 4th August was very disappointing. Trying to fancy it up while reducing the size of Portions. Also got rid of Stella for a lager I had never heard of.The portions were tiny all fancied up with Salad,but I noticed the Prices had not came down.Cmon 108 JUST STICK TO WHAT YOU ARE GOOD AT !!

Popped in for soup and sandwiches - which is not rocket science to prepare - and was very disappointed. The lentil soup was very thin, had much better from a tin! The ham on the sandwich was thin sliced and only one slice and was pretty tasteless, the cheese was nice.Can't fault the staff in the place, very prompt and efficient service and the restuarant is spotlessly clean - just need to make some improvements with the food!

I was there for the first time recently. I had stroganoff, which was nice, the beef was very tender & my husband had a burger which he enjoyed. We were too full for sweets. It was good food, not spectacular but it was all good and I'd go back. Not a massive big deal, but .. we had just got seated, ordered our meal and a drink, then we were asked to move tables for a larger party to get seated - not a huge deal as we hadn't started our meal yet, but the waitress had very nicely offered to arrange a free drink for our inconvenience as we had to move our drinks/bread roll etc - but when bill came, we'd been charged for the drinks after all, so the goodwill gesture never followed through. We wouldn't have asked for it as we didn't expect to get it at all, but if it was offered, it should have been given. Nice restaurant though, lots of windows so its light and airy.

The Mrs and the kids took me to the Hilcroft Hotel restaurant Bar 108 for Father's Day dinner on the Saturday night (she was working on the Sunday) as she had dined here before and recommended. We turned up without making a booking which was a bit daft as it was quite busy and nearly all the tables were reserved. However Margaret went all out and quickly had us seated in a nice big comfy booth. The kids menu was excellent with a great range of food, even for fussy kids like mine. Also a nice touch on the back was a puzzle and a colouring in picture. This and the separate kids play room kept them occupied between courses and they even met new friends while playing. The adults menu was great and had a nice range of dishes, not too many and not too few with Mexican, Italian, Scottish and Indian meals to chose from. There was even a daily special fixed 2 courser which on this day was Carrot & Coriander soup followed by a Salmon dish that was around the £10 mark - excellent. Anyway I went for the Scottish Scallops with black pudding and chorizo. This is the first time I've had scallops and after trying them, it won't be my last. This dish was amazing, honestly! and the presentation was as good as any from a 4/5 star restaurant (and I took a pic to prove it). I could have had it again for a main course but obviously with a bigger serving. Really couldn't get enough. Black pudding is one of my favourite foods to eat anyway but with the chorizo and the scallops, the combination was just perfect. If you're eating here, you really need to try this!For the main, I went for rack of lamb with djon mustard and garlic crust with crushed potatoes and carrot gratin. This dish again was excellent and well proportioned. I'm fussy with lamb and if it's even slightly too chewy, I won't eat it. Nothing to worry about here though, it was done just right, great. I also had a side of onion rings which deserve a mention as were handmade (not the cheap frozen perfectly round ones) and came in a huge portion. I had to finish these off and that's the reason I skipped pudding to be honest, I was done in lol, stuffed. I've not mentioned what my Mrs had to eat as she, like my kids is a fussy eater. She'll kill me for saying haha but she had the kids Heinz tomato soup starter and chips and cheese. She though said the chips are the best she's ever had and that's why she wanted to come back here! I have to say though, these handcut chips are HUGE and done perfectly - crispy on the outside and melt in the mouth on the inside. Fussy eaters are just that, so for her to go off her usual chips and want to travel to a restaurant 15 miles away from home, I'm going to take her word for it and glad I did.Anyway I've rabbled on enough and hope I don't sound like a ponsie TV food critic. I've ate in dozens of hotels up and down the country through travelling for work. I've had really good food before and probably should have left reviews but for Bar 108 at this hotel, I just had to come on here and recommend. The staff are top class and were very friendly to us and our kids. From Margaret who helped us get seated and served our drinks, to our waiter Pedro (I think his name is, Spanish chap) who served our food and had us in stitches at his patter / jokes. Altogether this is best restaurant I've eaten in so far and will be hard to beat. I can't rate it highly enough! If you're about this neck of the woods, treat yourself and the family and eat here!! You can thank me later :)
