Started off pretty good, though it quickly deteriorated. As we were the last customers in the restaurant ( we were told it was open) we pretty much got whatever food was left over. It was cold, obviously been sitting for ages and we left most of it. We found out later that there was only a trainee chef on duty and he left as soon as we were served. Initially the room was also ok, being of a good size and pleasant. However it was stiflingly hot (you couldn't touch the radiators) so we had to open the window. ( we had actually asked in an email previously if the heating could be turned down as we prefer a cooler room) Bad idea... the outside was full of drinkers till late into the morning, so between the noise and the heat, we didn't sleep much at all. Half way into the night, my wife decided to have a refreshing shower. Another very bad idea... The hot water was not far off boiling (no mixer taps or plug so you couldn't safely wash your hands in the sink). The shower water was just as hot as the temperature dial didn't work and then she couldn't close the shower door. As a builder I quickly noticed that the main bracket holding the entire glass screen to the ceiling was totally missing. Anyone attempting to move the shower door ran the very real risk of collapsing the glass screen, the results of which would not bear thinking about. After a long, hot, hungry, noisy and unpleasant night, we just got up and left. As the previous owner of a number of self catering properties, I am aware of the need for feedback, so I emailed the owner explaining why we left so suddenly and my very serious concerns over the dangerous hot water and the very dangerous shower screen. I expressed my opinion that the room should be shut down immediately until repairs were made. Under no circumstances, could the cleaner/owner not have known the condition of the shower and the hot water. The owner initially responded and apologised, stating that the room would be closed and repairs would be done asap. I was also told I would be refunded in full for the room and food, and offered another booking. After this initial offer I never heard from them again. We never received a refund or details to make another booking. I emailed them again a month or so later but my email was ignored. As a business owner, I am acutely aware of the need for maintenance. The maintenance of this room was negligent, dangerous and should an actual accident have occurred, the insurance pay out would have been huge. This is why I chose to talk directly to the owner instead of posting a poor review. I am posting this now as they failed to do anything at all and I was pretty much fobbed off.

We were booked in for 2 nights and it was very disappointing. No food available because cooker wasn't working. Poky little dark room. No breakfast. Big teenage staff party going on downstairs. We felt like intruders. After complaining we were moved to a nicer room for second night. We were promised money back which we are still waiting for. £120 per night for this!!

I booked with them, it said that if you are going to arrive late you need to let them know, I tried to communicate with them in every possible way, my train got stucked and I was there 30 minutes later, they did not replay to any of my emails, calls, messages, NOTHING, they just did not show up NEVER, of course refused to a refund. Would NEVER recommend someone going there, HORRIBLE people

No wonder our hotel room doesn't figure on the photos! Unfortunately a fancy tap and cushions on the bed doesn't make for a 'boutique' hotel. We must have had the smallest room available and right over the bar too. It was Open Mic night and we heard (very loudly) every bad version of popular songs until 11.30. This place could be lovely. It just needs more attention to details. The shower room door doesn't close, the shower enclosure has no door so water soaks all over the very small floor space, there is insufficient space around the washbasin to put toiletries, we had to ask for a TV remote, the kettle didn't work so no coffee - this was needed as apparently the chef had quit and there was no breakfast. I hope that the owners take all this on board because, as I said, it could be lovely.

We stayed 3 nights at the Fig Tree and had a wonderful time. The room was decorated beautifully and was clean and comfortable. The food is good, tasty; bistro style food. The homemade pizzas are tasty , as is the mouth warering steak pie. The prices of drinks in the bar were not over priced. The bar staff and locals are friendly and welcoming. There was an excellent karaoke evening on Friday. Lots of good singers, and songs that we could all join in with. A special mention for Heather, who made us feel welcome and recommended places to visit in the local area. She is also a professional waitress and barperson. She is friendly and efficient in all that she does at the Fig tree . I would recommend this hotel to anyone for an enjoyable break.

Booked in advance for a table for 8 for Friday dinner at 4:30pm. Menus given for ‘Pizza bar’ and regular meals (not a lot to choose from). 2 adults and one child wanted a pizza. Waiter came to take our order and told us there was only enough dough for one pizza, followed shortly by a waitress coming to tell us someone else ordered pizza and now there was no dough. 4:30pm….on a Friday…”Pizza bar” opens at 4pm….no pizza dough left. What?! No explanation given as to how this could have happened. Ordered lasagne…brutal. Burnt at the edges. Topped with marinara sauce to mask the dryness. Ate it coz I was starving. 4 steak pies - pastry for one shared on all plates. Beef chewy and cheap. Peas on every plate cold. Chips decent and drinks decent. Chocolate fudge cake…cheap Gateuax from a shop served cold with ice cream. Bowl of ice cream for the toddler, nothing to fancy it up like a wafer or sauce. Could have and have made a better home dinner. Brutal. Won’t be back.

We stayed at The Fig Tree Hotel for 2 nights over a weekend. The room was beautifully decorated and also exceptionally clean with great facilities. We took our dog with us and she was made so welcome in all areas of the hotel which was lovely. I cannot recommend the food enough, we ate breakfast and supper there and had lots to choose from. Great atmosphere and staff !! We will definitely book in again X

We loved our stay at the Fig Tree with our dog and friends. The food was amazing (especially the pizza!) and they provided vegan options for me. The helpful and professional staff made us feel really welcome. The bar was great and really friendly and being able to take our dog was the icing on the cake. Thanks.

Ate at Banners recently which is under new management with a new chef. The food and service were excellent. The menu is great with specials changing all of the time. Probably the best home cut chips I have ever had along with delicious main courses and deserts. It was a family birthday meal and all 8 of us were delighted with our food and drink. We live local and went back for lunch a few days later it was so good. Thanks chef Rod and the team and keep up the great work.

Having slated this ‘replacement’ for the Town House a few years ago before Covid hit. I was pleasantly surprised during our latest visit for a late lunch/early dinner. The decor has been greatly improved. Staff are all very polite and Customer oriented. The Chef is excellent and accommodating. Our main courses and sweets, were tasty and faultless. Well stocked Bar with a good selection of lagers and beers. Lose the pool table in our view, or at least move it to a back room. Viewed from the street, people playing pool, motivates some folks to walk on. To sum up, it's great to see Banners, back on track under new management and taking it's rightful place as the best eating place in the village. There are two sites to review this establishment since it has gone under new management. Get rid of the old trip advisor site please and keep this one.

A spur of the moment decision to go out on a Monday for few drinks and food. I must admit I was unsure of going to banners due to previous reputation. However I was really impressed with the staff and the excellent food choice. 3 of us, we had battered king prawns in chilli sauce and haggis pakora for starters, they were delicious. To follow we had macaroni and steak pie, again excellent choice. Food was very well presented, delicious and good size potions (we couldn’t eat it all). The staff are very friendly, polite and attentive. Definitely be back 👌🏻👍🏻

What a find, deserves more than 3.5 score. Tuna melt on ciabatta roll was tasty as was my egg mayo roll. Really excellent cappuccino too, really milky and delicious. The cakes are something else, the Strawberry Danish is DIVINE and my partner assured me the fudge doughnut was spectacular. Worth dropping in if you are in the area, if you are pressed for time jump in and buy a cake, you will not regret it. I intend to make a point of visiting again when in that neck of the woods.

Common theme here. My girlfriend and I called at this cafe about a quarter of an hour before they were due to close at 4pm which in itself seems absurd for a tourist destination. At the time staff were already stacking chairs on the tables in one part of the tearoom. We were looking for a suitable place to sit and were directed ungraciously to another room where there were no tables available. Unfortunately, as it now appears a very nice couple informed us that they were leaving and we could have their table. As I went to order at the counter they told my girlfriend that their coffee had been somewhat cool. Not having been informed that it was table service I went to the counter to order and was told that our coffees would be served in takeaway cups. When I queried this I was rudely informed by the older blonde woman with the pony tail that it was because they were about to close. They did seem happy enough to take my money however. The cakes were good but that was the only good news. Before we were finished our coffees the staff started to clear up around about us. Two foreign girls were encouraged ungraciously to leave. The aforementioned woman then came through and informed us incorrectly that we had already been asked to leave and we should go. When advised that we had not quite finished our coffees we were told in no uncertain manner to take them with us. This “lady” has no place serving the public in any capacity far less in a service industry. If she is an employee then the owners would be well advised to dispense with her services as she is the worst possible advert for their business. We are local and not only will we NEVER be back but we will advise ALL our friends not to go there under any circumstances.

Just like any other coffee shop selling coffee for extortionate prices. Ours had the added extra of being stronger than a herd of elephants with something to dash home for. I won't sleep for a week now...
