As far as I know they open at 10. We went last week (14/02) and at 10:10 they were still closed. This week I phoned up to check if they would be open today (22/02) at 10. I was assured they would be. 10:10 we were still waiting, as was a food delivery truck. Appears they operate on a different time zone to the rest of the UK. Can't comment on the food, I've not managed to get any.

Took 'Stake & Ale Pie W/ Mash Potatoes, 'Ham & Cheese Sandwich', and two drinks (Tea & Pepsi). The Stake & Ale Pie wasn't great due to being bland, no taste whatsoever. The Ham & Cheese Sandwich tasted good. It's not just on food they need to improve but on hygiene as well... The toilets were very filthy. The toilet, the floors and the sink were in awful condition. Wouldn't come back here again unfortunately, expected more from a Pub in such a touristic area.

After many years of attending and consistently receiving an amazing welcome , I was delighted to find the recent national issues, had not impacted the response /welcome I was shown, from Paul and all his family/staff at the café. And to add to that delight, the cooking and food supplied by his wife, was exceptional, yet realistically priced. I look forward to many more years of attending this venue. And would strongly urge other travelers/tourists to this beautiful area, to seek out this café and indulge in what is a not to be missed experience!!

I stopped here with my family to have a bite to eat. When we arrived we were met by a grumpy waitress and owner. We asked where they wanted us to sit, then said they’re busy! There wasn’t another person there. The only thing worse was than the greeting we got was the food they served. We went for panini’s thinking that they couldn’t get that wrong but they were awful. Do not bother! Trip adviser is great at helping you avoid these places so I feel I want to make sure no one else wastes their money here. Horrible experience.

We have stayed at the Bank note some time ago. A nice place to stay however facilities need an upgrade.A big downfall and what people need to be aware of is there is no parking at all at the property. There is an option of a public car park down the road but you need to pay. £6 per day and if you don't get there at 8 in the morning you will get a parking ticket as I did. When you add the cost per night and parking on top it's not as cheap as it should be. Good breakfast though will give you that.

The Manager in this place should not work in any customer facing role at all, I have never seen anybody as rude or self important as him.We went in at 09.30am looking for a nice coffee and breakfast as there wasn't much else open at this time in Matlock and it looked nice from the outside. After being told abruptly to take a seat after trying to order a simple coffee and bacon sandwich, it took 20mins for the manager to come over and take our order, the place was very quiet but looked absolute chaos with no one seeming to know what they were doing. Some bikers came in and tried to get coffee to be rudely told to move.He then very loudly moaned about a group of women sat at another table who were "In his way and wished they would leave" as he barged past.25minutes down and still we are waiting for our drink and food, finally coffee arrives, full English breakfasts for a few others are coming out which did look rather nice but still it's a no show for a simple bacon sandwich. After more wait we enquire how much longer our food will be, an uninterested young lady goes in kitchen and asks we are told 10 more minutes, I could of gone shop, bought bacon and made it myself quicker, it's also not a cheap place charging £3.95 for a bacon butty some service would be nice.We decide to cut out losses and just pay for the coffee, the uninterested young lady went outside to speak to "Manager" he stormed back in slamming open the kitchen door and shouting cancel the bacon these idiots obviously only want fast food.We very politely pointed out that half an hour is way too long to wait for just a simple bacon sandwich, and we're told to "Get the Fub out of HIS Establishment"Honestly just avoid this place.

Really disappointed. Walked in with my children, wanting to buy drinks but my 3 year old required the toilet, so my plan was to toilet my children and then come out and sort us with drinks. The man behind the bar shouted "No" as soon as he heard my plan and informed me "toilets are across the road". I replied "but I'm going to by us drinks!" And he said "I've heard that one before, no, you're not using the toilet" my poor little three year old was jumping in desperation by this point. Surely a little discretion & common sense could've been used? So, even though we visit Matlock Bath on a regular basis, I will be avoiding this establishment and informing many of my friends and family to do the same. Shame.

We have visited this place many times over a period of years, we visit matlock bath regularly during the summer months for a walk and to watch the bikes on nice summers days. I always order the full english breakfast ( served until 13:00)which is always excellent! and my wife has ordered various lighter meals which have also been very nice.We have always received a warm welcome form Paul, the owner, and most of the other staff, which do seem to change quite regularly. This is a cafe serving good quality food and is almost always our choice for dining when we are in matlock bath. I appreciate there are some negative reviews but I take everything as I find them and have never had any cause for complaint, on one occasion I was later than planned and had missed the 13:00 cut off point ( but only by 15 or 20 mins) for the breakfast, but when Paul saw it was us he thankfully let us still have our full english, which was very much appreciated!!

I visited this establishment today 4/3/17 with my family in the hope of having a cup of tea and a slice of gluten free cake for £3.50, as advertised on a black board sign outside the entrance. We decided to sit inside out of the way of passing foot traffic. I settled my two children and took my coat off. The proprietor came over and before I could muster a 'hello' I was briskly asked if we were ordering from the menu, I said no we just want to some tea and cake thankyou. The proprietor looked at me and in a very aggravated manner told me that they were only taking menu orders. When my husband mentioned the sign outside he was met with yet again a very irritable and forceful 'well it should have been taken down, we aren't doing it, just food orders'. When my husband pushed the matter a little more and mentioned the rude tone of the gentleman's voice he was told to 'stop mentioning it' and to 'go away'.I have never come across such appalling customer service. We had visited this establishment at the end of summer last year and we were delighted in the service and the gluten free option for cake so I was really looking forward to enjoying another treat. Needless to say it is doubtful that we will visit again after today's experience. I'm not one for writing bad reviews but I feel I need to make future visitors aware of the unwelcome they will receive here.

We went for a run out late on Saturday afternoon most shops were closing and it was really cold outsideWe looked through the window of this little cafe and saw it said home made food I always shake my head because it's normally frozen rubbish in most cafes. off we went in the owner made us feel so welcome menu looked great and it's also a bar what a fabulous find1 ordered the liver 1 roast dinner and myself and hubby had stew and dumplings finished with bread and butter pudding. We had a bottle of wine while we waited the food was well worth the wait it was completely home cooked and lots of it We can highly recommend this place Their be no more going to expensive sandwich shops nowI really don't know how they did that amazing food for the money Topped of with coffees on the house The owner also explained it's a B&B as well We will definitely be back Thankyou

We called in for breakfast early on a saturday morning (10am). We both settled on the full English breakfast and although we expected a fairly large meal, the size of the plate astonished us. Apart from slightly overcooked fried eggs, we couldn't fault the food. The restaurant is small, but well laid out and attractive and in a town that is dominated by so many fish and chip shops, the Bank Note is a welcome change. The owner (Paul) was charming and very helpful. He also informed us that bed and breakfast was available, something we willl certainly book should we return to Matlock Bath.

Amazing breakfast, I've not found anyone that could make fried bread like my Dad's but this place can, high praise, amazing! Good price too,The man serving us could have been a bit more welcoming to us like he was to the people that had obviously booked his rooms. I'll be back here for the fried bread alone if I'm in the area again

My wife booked one night bed & breakfast at the bank note, Matlock bath. On arrival the owner, Mr Paul Williams took us to our room, which was clean, warm & tidy, there was the usual TV, kettle, etc, but he told us that breakfast would be served in the cafe downstairs, that served as the dining room, he also told us that as residents we could get free tea or coffee in the cafe ,whenever!.after unpacking we called in the cafe for a drink, there were lots of really delicious looking cakes on display.so we thought it only fair as we were drinking free coffee we would buy some cake.(now you know what's coming).when we went to pay Paul he wouldn't accept the money.regardless of the actual price of cake, we found the gesture really kind and started our weekend on a great note. The breakfast next morning was fantastic, and I would recommend this establishment to anyone.

Hi I have been three times now, the food is always good-as are the staff and service. When I have called on my bike the owner has always locked it up securely and given a free coffee refill. The homemade cake and coffee for £3.50 is terrific. I will definitely call again.

Popped into the Bank Note after the bank holiday as we were visiting Matlock Bath for the day. Walked along the high street and wanted a quick bite to eat. So popped in our heads and it looked like a good place to go. Warmly greeted when we walked through the door we knew instantly then we'd made the right choice. The menu included sandwiches and breakfasts plus cream teas and various other meals.Looking through the menu myself and my wife decided to go for a cream tea each £3.50 and my oldest son went for a scone and half pint of coke. My youngest went for a cheese sandwich on white bread which came with a side salad and a fruit shoot for a drink. The scones were fantastic light and not too heavy. Nice amounts of jam and cream as well. The cheese sarnies were also very nice according to my youngest and were generously filled with cheese. In total our bill came to around £14 which we thought represented good value for money. The member of staff who was on at the time was very polite and courteous as well and the place was very clean and tidy as well. If you're looking for good value for money and some where for a snack

After enquiring if they had a vacancy, was directed to the car park space where Paul the owner was waiting for us and insisted on carrying our 2 overnight cases back to his establishment - a decent walk away. That appears to be typical of such an exceptionally nice person who couldn't do enough for you. The room was large, very clean and the bed very, very comfortable - slept really well.English breakfast, cooked by his wife Jane (hope that's how you speel it) was very nice indeed (we didn't have the full one as it would certainly have been far too much and believe me, I can eat a very large breakfast indeed!)I don't know the average prices for that area as this our first visit but I certainly got the impression from looking at one or two others via the internet that this was a reasonable price.Only things to be aware of are the fact that you have a shared bathroom (no en-suite) and there are a few stairs to climb - I think all four rooms are on the third floor.Other than that, would cretainly recommend and if we return to the area we shall attempt to stay here again. A big thankyou to you both.

The food was dreadful and expensive. Can’t say it any plainer. Schnitzel was burnt and poorly presented. Pasted was soggy. The very worst was the waffles which had been microwaved and were solid! Just the two us for a birthday meal with one drink each and it cost £91!
