Banana Leaf in Glasgow City

Terrible sambhar. Solo agregaron un poco de agua caliente que se podía ver en las fotos. Su dosis tenía hilos en ella. La peor comida del sur de la India. Incluso rasam es más grueso. Solo agua flotando encima

Música Tamil Kuthu, auténticos deliciosos platos del sur de la India con un servicio rápido y excelente - ¿puede pedir más? Tienes las típicas dosas auténticas como en un Saravana Bhavan: mysore, ghee roast, masala, rava etc... .. Todos están muy bien hechos con excelentes chutneys y sambhar. Las dosas vienen tan bien como pueden, uniformemente crujientes pero espesas, húmedas y sabrosas. El derretimiento - en su boca chukka de cordero, es condimentado por especias aromáticas recién golpeadas y de gran calidad, mezcladas precisamente bajo una auténtica receta de Chettinad. Servido caliente, es difícil no pensar en ello cuando te despiertas a la mañana siguiente! El Chili Paneer y el Paneer Manchurian son tan buenos como pueden serlo para los vegetarianos, especialmente, trozos frescos y húmedos de paneer cocinados en las especias adecuadas y mezclados en una salsa pegajosa con cebollas suavizadas y sudadas, en comparación con una salsa “dulce - chile” que la mayoría de los otros restaurantes podrían servir... El máximo respeto que le tengo a este restaurante proviene del hecho de que han adoptado y mantenido fieles las recetas y mantenido su auténtico sabor. I lived in south India for 2 years and this is what the food was like!   Price:competitive about $14 for a great entre Style:  Casual family style Food selection: South Indian Cleanliness: high Service: could have been more attentive we called them over each time we needed them Location: westend Setting/Atmosphere: Natural light augmented with well-designed interior lighting. Noise level when it’s busy is moderately high but broken by the booth style seating. There is a comfortable amount of space. Finishes are pragmatic.  Dining materials are plain and simple. Music volume is a little high but not obnoxiously so the style was indian modern. 

Ordered a takeaway from Uber eats and have to say it's some of the worst food I've ever eaten. Well I say eaten most of it straight in the bin. The temperature was cold and that was not just because of delivery time. The food was stale as if it had been from day before. The so called vegetable curry was just chic peas with absolutely no vegetables. The chicken curry was disgusting. The spiced onions the worst I have ever tasted the onions must have been months old and the bread so stale I could have patched a roof with. I honestly don't often go overboard but this was seriously one of the worst meals I've ever had. Avoid at all costs.

Wonderful meal! we both had a mini set…one chicken and one veg. Both really hit the spot. Serve was quick and friendly. Meal came promptly and was hot and delicious.

Was underwhelmed by this place, having eaten before at the one in the West End and found their dosas to be good. Ate the veg mini buffet meal which comprised too much rice, two chapatis, two papad, a chickpea curry, a sambar, and poriyal (it's a choice between poryial or raita - you don't get both but should really get a curd with this included). The chickpeas and poriyal were just ok - didn't feel like there was that much masala in them and weren't that spicy, and neither was the sambar. Felt more homestyle - but not in a good way (ie. you could make it better yourself at home). Place was freezing too as they door was kept open and initial service was slow. Added to that the prize of £10 as stated on the menu turned out to be £12 on the bill. Sneaky (and a mark off my review just for that). Wouldn't be back in a hurry, based on this visit, given there are several other much better South Indian places.

I have been a regular banana leaf customer for years, from their old premises in the West end to their new updated St. Vincent street restaurant. The food is second to none, Very flavourful and a great variety on the menu, I have my favourites but also like to try new things occasionally and am never disappointed. The staff are friendly and remember us from previous visits and are always happy to see us return, the decor is nice with a chilled atmosphere, the price is exceptionally cheap particularly for a city centre establishment. The service is typically quick and the food arrives shortly after order on most occasions, there is also the added bonus of bring your own bottle with no corkage. I will continue to visit regularly and support this fine establishment.

Only 5 minutes walk from Buchanan Street this little basement restaurant was a fantastic find. Great South Indian food, great service and great value for money. Enjoyed it so much we ate here twice during our stay in Glasgow.

Popped into this little basement restaurant while wandering past. The greeting was warm and friendly, the curry spicy, tasty and expertly cooked. Incredible value, something that seems rare now - and the team are all welcoming. Recommend highly, I will be back.

We like to call in here whenever we're in Glasgow. It's only a few minutes walk from the Glasgow Central Station, and very handy to visit before a show in the city. Very good variety of food - I have thoroughly enjoyed everything that I have tried. Lots of vegan and veggie options, and prices are very reasonable too.

A Proper South Indian Restaurant in Glasgow at reasonable price and great variety. A great place if you are looking for a spicy south indian food.

My mum loves the former Banana Leaf place and it’s always been her favourite place to go for dosa. So she was really excited about this new opening. The decor seemed a little sparse but this was more than compensated by the friendliness of the staff, the speed of the food arriving, but above all the quality of the food. The tastes were fresh and authentic, not far off home cooking. Delicious South Indian food. Liked the touch of having pictures of Ganeshji for kids to colour in too. Thank you to the staff.

The much missed Banana Leaf has returned!!! Many will remember the wonderful south Indian food at their old site in the West End. The same team have just opened up again in the city centre at 192 St Vincent Street. We went there today and we can confirm that they still be serve the best Indian food we have ever tasted. We had their set meals (Thali style selections) which were as outstanding as they have always been. The new restaurant is a bit bigger and trendier than the previous site but the food is still amazing and the prices are still surprisingly low. Their new phone number is 0141 334 4445.

Food is great and value for money. It's on our usual order list, the only thing is delivery time, often late.

1 hour 5 minutes late, and arrived exactly how you would imagine food that was cooked an hour ago did. Soggy, wet, utterly unpleasant and cold. Fit entirely for the bin

Phoned twice to ask where order was. Both times were told that it would be there within 3 minutes. That did not happen. Then the order delivery time changed from 19:45 to 20:40 Had to reheat the food ourselves because it was cold. The papadoms were chewy and soft. The meal would have been ok if I was in a better frame of mind to enjoy it I suspect it was sitting in someone’s car, totally forgotten about until we phoned the second time.

Food is amazing!! One of my favourite places in Glasgow but the delivery service is a shambles. Such a pity, go and collect would be my advice

Lovely food and excellent value.

Food was a lot better than the last few times we’ve ordered, but missing several items. We called instantly to let the restaurant know, and were told the driver would return in 5-10 mins. 30 mins later, we called again, and were told ‘on its way’. After another 30 mins we called to cancel the extra items. Driver never turned up.

Really nice food however the korma I ordered was insanely spicy, i like spicy food but dont really expect it from a korma and was pretty hot even for me

Food taste is awesome, I ordered curry dish, dosa and Gajar halwa. Everything was fabulous. I am in love with dosa sambhar and Gajar halwa was literally awesome. Quantity wise also very good. Just love the food a lot. Thanks for providing such good yummy food.

Food arrived 20 mins late and wasn't as hot as I'd have liked. Rice was missing from order. However curries were lovely, tasted really authentic and different from the norm. Would go to the restaurant again but probably not order again.

Missing some items from delivery. I have been here years ago and really enjoyed it. It seems like a totally different place. I wasn't super impressed.

The food is authentic and spicy. For me though it's incredibly salty. I wish there was a 'less salt' option to choose.

When I was placing order, It mentioned delivery time as 30-40 minutes but when order got confirmed, it changes to 80 minutes (1 hour 20 minutes) and finally arrived in 90 minutes (1 hour 30 min). Food was cold and the gravy part was leaking from the paper boxes.

Wonderful food as always! Best and only authentic South Indian food in Glasgow. Obviously the dosa isn’t as crispy as fresh! Still delicious. Only hiccup is our curry was supposed to come with Chappati, which never came.

We ordered food for delivery at 9.55pm as we were driving back home. At 8.50pm the delivery driver rings to say he is outside with our order. As we were not back then, he went away and came back at 10.15pm with an order which was essentially cold and tasted exactly as you'd expect for a meal which had sat for over an hour on a delivery run.

Food here is great, very authentic and good value. Having said that there is often something missing from the order - paratha today but other times it has been chapattis or rice. They have never given us coke with our set meals, substituting diet instead. They are frequently late. They are always polite if you phone. I will keep using them😊

The chicken saag wasn't the best but all other dishes was absolutely delish.

Honestly the best tasting curry in Glasgow, absolute unique. So authentic, I really can't find a decent takeaway curry in Glasgow, untill I ordered from here. This will be my new place for curries, please don't drop the quality, chefs! Incredible food

Finally! Some authentic Southern Indian food that you can eat in your own home! I've been so disappointed by all the Indian takeaways that I've tried around Glasgow. All offering the same old dishes you see everywhere. Banana Leafs menu is fantastic especially for vegans. Although, it would be nice if you actually labeled what is vegan. It's really easy to add a little icon next to the vegan options. Definitely will be eating from here again!

I didn’t get the rice though 😂 food was amazing!

Very tasty food, nice and peppery main courses, though a bit too fiery for our young one. Lemon rice had quite a few green chillies in it, which was a pleasant suprise! Sadly the idly was not available and they substituted with uttapam, though they did try to contact me about it. Rava Masala Dosa was superb.

This is my favourite restaurant in Glasgow - always unbelievably tasty! Highly recommend the masala tawa fish, butter chicken, lamb saag and lamb biryani.

We’ve been ordering from here for years - best curry in town. We recently discovered you get special offers / faster delivery if you order direct from their website. The curries are flavourful & spicy without being too hot.

The driver is so rude and the delivery wasn’t delivered on time this is not the first time!!!

Went out with my mates because I hadn’t seen them for a while And all the restaurants round my area were all fall for a Friday night so we found the banana leaf Indian I ordered a double mix Donna Indian kebab with mild southern rice we ordered our food at 5:10 but was still waiting at 7:30 so we Started to smell this burning from the kitchen and I walked in there and their were firemen in the kitchen because my Meal had caught fire the whole kitchen was in flames the owner apologised to me and my mates and gave us two vouchers so we still wanted our money back but the owner said they store all money in the kitchen after 15 mins of complaining he kicked us out and when we got home I realised the vouchers he gave us the first was a voucher that expired last year and the second one was for his mates kebab house down the road. Never returning!

Didnt realise this is still open at original location. The one at the south side has closed. Good delicious south Indian food but presentation a bit basic for me.

Food arrived an hour after our estimated delivery time. This was more than 1.5 hours after we ordered. What was more frustrating is that the restaurants phone line was out of order and therefore we couldn’t even check if the food was on its way or not

The delivery was late - 1 hour late to be exact. From the time I ordered to delivery was 1 hour 30 minutes. There was missing item delivered, and the food was cold. The food quality used to be good but I will not order from this place again.

This is not the first time we have ordered some thing from Banana leaf. We used to get everything and food used to be tasty. But last two times we have not been getting the food as ordered something or else is wrong in the food. For instance today we ordered fish curry with rice and got only the curry, last time we ordered idli and got uttapam instead. Last but not least the delivery was 45 mins later than estimated time

When I’m feeling down, I get banana leaf. A dosa masala and some daal and I feel like myself again. I highly recommend this place, especially for vegetarians.

Very tasty and authentic South Indian food. Idling was very soft, and lassis were very nice. Would've maybe liked a bit of crispness with the masala dosa. But amazing food!

Amazing food as always and delivered right on time

The samosas were a little bit undercooked, and we ordered a mushroom chettinad but received a different dish. However it was still vegetarian and all delicious so we didn’t mind too much. Food was outstanding as usual!

Food arrived cold and took an unusually long time given our close proximity to the takeaway. Quality wasn’t great either, down to being cold but also far too spicy for what we’re mild to moderate dishes. Possibly just a bad night but won’t order again.

The quality of food I just got from here is unsurpassable imho. This restaurant has obviously not overlooked what most of their competitors seem to overlook and that is.....the quality of their ingredients. What you get out is what you put in and the end result of what this chef creates is quite obviously something that the chef takes pride in ! Authentic, wholesome and bursting with flavour and spices......it doesn't get any better than this place, seriously......Thanks Banana leaf :) Your food is worth every penny of the obvious effort that went into creating it. Nothing much to tell. I did not get what i ordered. Such a shame that i ordered trusting they will deliver what was ordered.

Food was fantastic, couldn't recommend it more. Just eat cancelled the order without the restaurant's knowledge, had to re-order and and some of the food was cold but it was more than made up for by how great it tasted. It was a Saturday, to be fair, so I'm not surprised they were busy with food that good. Will definitely be back for more.

The minute you walk in, the aromas are so strong that it transports you straight to best local eateries in South India famous for it biryani. you look around and find the locals dipping their fingers in the dosa, poratta and curry with beer stocked on their table. The food is prepared and tastes just like back home and is a must for anyone who wants to eat real south Indian food. One of a kind restaurant.

This is a classic ‘Formica table’ curry house but my goodness the food is so good!! Don’t go expecting a ‘fine dining experience’ - there are no table cloths, no lavish decor nor extensive drinks menu (it’s not licensed) but do expect to find a very reasonably priced and varied menu with a whole host of dishes that you may never have encountered before in a standard Indian restaurant. The food is great- well flavoured with decent portion sizes (they will pack up what you can’t eat for you to take home). We Had a mix of vegetarian and meat dishes and all were excellent. The King Dosa (2 foot circumference) with a potato filling was an entire meal in itself!

Ok I’ll concede that when you walk past and look in, or even when you sit down to eat, you think “wow this place needs a lick of paint and some cleaning up”. But forget that. Forget it entirely. Because they do the fundamental thing that restaurants are meant to do very, very well: make food. South Indian, authentic food. Not chicken tikka masala and such nonsense. Genuine, stunning South Indian food. Dishes to try: Chicken 65, Rasam, chicken pakora, lamb pepper fry, Chicken or Lamb Chettinad (my preference is lamb but whatever you prefer), the biryani dishes, the dosas, South Indian garlic chilli chicken. All outstanding. I’ve tried most of the menu at some point in the last few years and never been let down by it. The food is cheap, service is friendly and if you can look past the surroundings then you’ll enjoy a great meal here. No alcohol but I think there is still a BYOB policy. And on top of that, they donate a portion of he profit to Indian charities, so you’re helping others out as well. A must experience for stunning, authentic Indian food.

One of the best curries I have ever had. I had the patak paneer and my boyfriend had a coconut chicken dish and we were both more than content. Such a vast range of dishes on offer and with both a curry AND a flatbread or rice for only £7/8 it was very affordable and definitely well worth it. Plenty of veggie/vegan options for anyone looking. Great, friendly service and lovely staff too. Will definitely be going back!

Got to be the best curry house around. Huge selection of dishes- many not seen on regular Indian menus. Large helpings,many vegetarian and vegan meals available. Tasty, well cooked, flavoursome food. Excellent value for money. A surefire destination every time we visit Glasgow .

After a visit to kelvingrove, we ordered a carryout for four including starters, rice and breads. What a great meal and the staff so friendly. All for less than £40. Definitely back next time in Glasgow.

The best curry you'll ever have. Unless you've just returned from India you'll not get a better curry than this. The basic surroundings should affect how good the food is, if you're precious about how the walls are painted, don't go. If you want a cracking meal then dive into the menu, don't hold back just pick something you don't recognise, it's the easiest way to get the best!

Didn't enjoy this meal at all. The chef left to buy groceries at Tesco. Found the food to taste very greasy.

Veggie set meal £6.50 absolutely great! Curry, side, rice, chapati, DakoBYOB too - nice beer shop across the road. Took a party of 6-8 people there and bill came to a total of £44! Was great!

My delivery was 45 mins late. The lamb in my curry was fatty & tough, the pakora & fish starter were dry and tough. At least I could eat the rice. So disappointed :-(

Found this place totally by accident. Wound up in Patrick on a whim and wandered in to see if we could chance our arm for a table.

Одну часть помещения занимает Takeaway, другую часть выделили под ресторан. Очень маленькое помещение, размером с комнату. Еда не плохая, большой выбор в меню, почти не дорого (£25 для двоих), только очень много специй, больше, чем хотелось бы. Много посетителей, свободных мест почти нет. Но думаю, что посещать больше не буду, т.к. уж слишком неуютно, шумно, тесно, стенка рядом со столом была грязной, стол липким, туалет при входе на кухню. Место явно очень популярное, но если вы любитель уюта и чистоты, лучше не экспериментируйте.

We have eaten a lot of Malaysian food, having been to Malaysia on a few occasions and brother-in-law is Malaysian. We did advise the Manager we were displeased with all the dishes we had but he did not seem to care. Will not be returning.

Recently I had the joy of visiting southern India. This morning I woke up needing a reminder of my trip. The banana leaf is about as close as I can find in Scotland to what i experienced in India. I drove 65 miles for lunch !

The Interieur is quite basic and it takes some time to get a seat and the ordered food. But it is absolutely worth waiting! The food was unbelievebale delicious and very dimensional! Plus: reasonable prices!
