Village Curry House in Glasgow City

Usually look forward to a curry from the village but it took almost 2 hours to arrive from the point of ordering. It came close to 10pm, and I was ready for bed at that point. Refused to refund any money too (you’d think the delivery fee would be refunded at the least)

Ordered chana which were not fresh and was smelling bad like if it is couple of days old Also ordered Tadka daal which also was not looking fresh

Food was great, just a bit late.

Ordered the lamb bhoona tonight and last week absolutely beautiful regards to the chef and staff

Very bad experience, think twice before going to this restaurant This is the first time i am in Glasgow and first restaurant to try... not Happy and pleased with the experience. Had gone for dinner with My family(wife and kids) after looking at the review of 4.0, It was the worst mistake to have chosen to have my dinner here. I got stale chicken sheek kebab in the platter and chicken samosa had rock solid chicken pieces which was difficult to chew. On top of it the charges was 72 pounds and to my surprise, they charged 3.8 pounds for hot water and bring to the notice of the manager in both the cases of stale chicken and on extra charges for water he was behaving like it was OK and normal.

Combo Kebab is great value. Doner, Chicken Shawarma, 2 x Chicken Tikka pieces, 2 x Lamb Tikka pieces and 2 x Kofte. Beautiful salad. Served on a lovely soft Naan. I would recommend this.

Very, very disappointed. We have dined here regularly. Food is usually excellent, unfortunately on this occasion standard of food was very poor. Starters were very good. Both main courses were returned, and replaced. One was barely like warm, the other was a tandoori kebab, which was very over cooked Making it very dry and unedible. The other dish was spinach with meat balls, should have been spicy and traditional Indian style. Instead it was very mild and tasteless. Spoke to the head waiter, explained my very valid disappointment. He gave a very incinsere apology. We were offered no recompense at all. We always bring home a doggy bag. Instead we left the barely touched meal. All waiting staff were excellent, even offering their sincere apologies. Deffinately will not be returning ever again.

Ordered Combo Kebab. You get a portion of Doner, Chicken Doner, 2 bits of Chicken, 2 bits of Lamb and 2 Kofte on a soft Naan with side salad. Standard Doner meat. Beautiful pipping hot Chicken. Lovely soft Lamb. Very tasty Koftes. 8.5/10 Recommend.

Alchohol Free restraunt whats the point of a curry with out a lager .. Veg pakora spiced onions and garlic nan Chicken tikka sizzler (half cold no sizzle) Madras sauce. My sizzler came out not sizzling in the slightest and was luke warm with a wet bed of onion underneath it . However the tikka although semi warm was tasty but the madras sauce was watery and tastless just heat no flavour and the garlic nan was flat and dry as a witches t*t and did not look fresh made in house at all . The day after i was quite unwell indeed and i put it down to the luke warm meal . I wont be back !

While in Glasgow had the pleasure of visiting Village curry house. Had been there years ago....and it has really transformed from a small take away to a great place to sit and have wonderful food in a great environment. Service was really good too. We had tried their fish (Haddock) curry....it was out of this world and really good. Along with that we had a portion of daal and also the lamb karahi portion....though the lamb curry was good....I woukd recommend to try their 1kg lamb or chicken karahi as that is always made freah in that quantity. Overall a very nice expetience with great food. Would highly recommend them.

The waiter didn’t mention the fact that the metal pot they brought for us was extremely hot I ended up burning myself got sever burns on my fingers Not coming back You should warn people that things are extremely hot hot before serving it absolute 🫏’s

Just came for a spot of lunch with my grandson. Heard shouting and swearing from the kitchen. Apparently, the owner was shouting and swearing at the chef for some reason. Not a nice experience!!!

Had buffet today, Came at 9:15 stalls were closing from 9:40. Paid 45£(for 2 persons) without eating properly. Not even touched Birnay. They are removing items while I was eating. Edit: The staff doesn't care about customers, they don't serve water until we ask

Went to lunch starters were good,ordered lamb bhoona and chapati . The lamb was on the bone had 4 bones and only 2 pieces of lamb in a very greasy sauce. Was disappointed with the food. Got a soda water and lime drink which was flat . Most definitely won’t return or recommend

Also new staff where baffled what they where doing or going , service was atrocious on June 2024, the lamb curry was fatty, half cold maybe half cooked, 24 years My wife and I have eaten and spent money there, now it's time for a change for better curry and service and food ARCHIE !!!???? Writing this review makes me sad! I have been a regular customer at The Village since 2010, visiting a number of times a year, mainly for family celebrations! The food had always been good, I have never had a bad meal here and the staff have always been friendly and understanding. As a family we went out to celebrate Father's Day. On arrival we noticed it was very busy, which didn't put me off because of my prior positive experience! We went in and were told that it was a buffet as opposed to the normal a la carte menu, which was fine, I enjoy a selection of curry dishes. Sat down and we were served our drinks relatively quickly, this is where anything positive ended. We went up to get starters, the selection was very limited, chicken chaat was dry and luke warm, pakora also limited, only veg which was OK, all in a really poor selection of starters. On to the mains, this is where things really went down hill, no plain boiled or fried rice, no naan left, a small selection of curries which appeared to be the dreggs of the most 'recent' batch, curry sauce was watery and the meat, I would go as far as inedible, chicken, chicken tikka and lamb, all dry, chewy and on the cold side of luke warm! Ate a couple of bits of meat which was enough, wouldn't have eaten any more in fear of a bad tummy. Didn't even look at the desserts! Spoke to the floor manager and expressed our dissatisfaction to which he advised that the food was refreshed every 2 hours and had we wanted fresh food we should just have asked. They were going to charge us £25.95 per head which was utterly shocking, I advised that I wasn't going to pay that for 4 of us, we probably didn't eat as much as a portion of vegetable pakora and 1 regular take away tray of curry between the 4 of us. Only charged us for 2 adults and for the 4 drinks which amounted to £67.25, which I was reluctant to pay. I am not scrooge and don't mind paying for good food, used to paying £100 + in this restaurant previously which I didn't grudge, this I did grudge. Manager wasn't remotely interested in what I was saying and laid the responsibility on me for not asking for fresh curry, rice and naan, very disappointing! I am not a stranger to a curry, nor dining out. Sadly, I will not return to The Village which is a shame given my previous experience. I would not recommend The Village, I would say this is the worst curry I have ever been served, dry and chewy meat and would question how fresh the meat was. Customer Service was non existent. Really poor all in.

A friend of mine has been ranting n raving about how good this curry house is for years......so myself and a couple of friends took him up on having a meal here. It was a Wednesday night after work around 6pm. Because of the time we got a table no problem. We were shown to our table by friendly staff and ordered soft drinks. My friend who recommended this place was with us and I took his lead and ordered a chicken tandoori with fried rice and a mild sauce, with paratha and nan bread. 3 of us ordered this and one friend ordered a chicken jalfresi. The food was good, service friendly and efficient and the value was good. I would deffo recommend "The Village" for a meal. We will be back. "Hasta la vista"

The Village has been a second home for years. Since the new premises opened one can order dishes by weight to guarantee total satisfaction. Ask for Desi style to guarantee the full on flavours.

Was amazed at how good the food is. The food menu has too much to choose from (not a bad thing). Also, the waiting staff don't know what is going on most of the time. Someone will take your order 2 seconds later. Someone else will be over to do the same. There's no organisation or table control. (Not hating on the restaurant) Overall, I will be coming back for the food.

Well, It was our first experience here which was not so good but kind of bad…!! We were served with the staters fast which were fine to go with however, when it came to Mains, it took them ages to serve….!! The lady at front service was quite nice nd attentive but they really need to work on their kitchen skills…!! We ordered four different dishes which were served with alot of oil.….!! Overall, I really don’t like the experience and will think twice to go back….!!

Went for a meal this evening as we live nearby and have always wanted to try. Service was quite awful. As soon as we entered the restaurant the waitress or manager shouted at us from her desk asking if we were looking for a table.. I asked if we should come to her instead of shouting from the door but she continued to converse with us shouting from a distance. Very strange. Another waitress took us over to our table but initially sat us at a table that hadn’t been cleaned or set yet, we hesitated and ANOTHER waitress came over and told us to sit at the next table that was already set. Why we weren’t sat here first I have no idea. The restaurant was hardly busy. We ordered drinks and food, drinks took a while to arrive and we had to ask for water twice. Water arrived and there was a small spider in my glass…. yuck. I noticed it while drinking and got the attention of a waiter who simply replied “Ok, do you want new water?” ….. I mean? Really?! Food was good and came quickly. Nothing amazing but nothing terrible either. Waitress that cleared our plates asked if she could “have our plates” expecting us to hand them all to her. The staff also dropped cutlery on someone in our party twice. Staff could really do with some training, or maybe being paid better so that they might out in a little more effort! Will definitely opt for takeaway next time as the food was good enough.

Average food, worst customer service especially from the "family members" of the owner but they have a large sitting area thats why some people go there.

I have been here many times so always happy to come back. Found the service to be very slow and had to wave several times to get anyone to come and serve us. Food was slow to come out and not as good as it is usually. Overall was pretty disappointed as it is usually so much better

Just been here with my wife and have left with full bellies and happy. My wife loves Indian food and we found this place online - so pleased we came! We had a large sharing platter of some beautifully tender meat (zaikadar grill) full of flavour and left us licking our fingertips. We had a lamb Bhindi gosht and a chicken tikka south Indian with rice. I'm not one from straying away from what I know but I'm so pleased I did as the Bhindi gosht was so tender and flavoursome. The South Indian was lovely and not quite as hot as anticipated but full of flavour with the garlic naan complementing the curry. Too full to try a dessert. Very kind and attentive staff with fast and efficient service. It's nice to see waiting staff all get on with each other. Thanks for good food and a relaxing atmosphere.

This is not a Indian Restaurant for sure, its a Lahori Cuisine. So you won't get authentic Indian for sure.

Wife had been about a year ago,said it was excellent. tried it tonight with my son. Pretty empty on a Saturday at dinner time. Staff were a bit lackluster and didn't really look interested. 1 took our drink order,another took our food order,another brought our food and yet another brought the bill. Our food took a fair time to come out. About 20 mins. I had South Indian chicken tikka. Sauce was terrible. Like a spicy tomato ketchup. I always get South Indian curry first time i'm in a new curry house and ive had loads but this was really poor. Nan was not the best also. Didnt seem very fresh. Other dish we ordered was lamb tikka sizzler. This was totally delicious. Lamb was absolutely perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. 10/10. Portion of rice was ok Curry sauce was a bit bland too if im being honest. That came to about £45. Very disappointing as i had really high hopes for this place. Dont think ill be back

First and last time I'll be purchasing food from here. Ordered chicken tikka south Indian garlic chilli, the sauce was incredibly thin and just not pleasant tasting, the very few chicken tikka pieces that were actually in the sauce were pretty small. So, to sum up, avoid at all costs.

Got the takeaway, portions came in half sized containers which is a cheek when they're asking £11 for it. Curry was watery and bland, as if it had came out of a jar. Naan was bit old and thick but ok. Wouldn't eat here again even it was free, go elsewhere.

I have ordered my food and went to pick it up and it wasn't ready, though i went there after 40 mints, stayed their for another 30 mints and asked them twice and same cheap rude faces with no interest in customers.No apology was given and they just handed over the food as they are giving me a favour. I won't buy from them again, worst customer service.

Ordered the Desi Pizza and it took them 2 hrs to deliver and it was average and cold and nothing special in it, i would never order again.

Absolutely love coming here! Been bringing my family here for years, shared many of our special family occasions at the Village. Food has always been superb and they have always looked after us very well. Keep it up Village!

Went here for dinner with a group of work colleagues. After seeing the mixed reviews I was a bit worried. Have to say no issues whatsoever. Good friendly service, generous portion sizes and food was excellent with just the right level of spice. This wasn't just my opinion but of the group as a whole. My only minor gripe was that as a group of 12 we were seated at a single long table so it's impossible to have a conversation with those at the other end of the table. Otherwise no complaints and we will be back.

I got takeaway and must say one of the worst curries I had, vegetables were off and most unpleasant chicken. It’s disappointing since over the last 10years their food has graduallly gone worse

My fiancé and I stopped here after a recommendation from friends. We weren’t that hungry so we opted for the samosa chaat. I went in to the takeaway part as I didn’t know they had a seating area. Whilst placing my order, the man who served me didn’t even greet me or ask what toppings I wanted with my samosa order. He didn’t even make any conversation. The customer service was appalling. The shop itself was grubby and had dark and gloomy decor. It could do with a lick of paint and a good scrub. The guys in there need to get their marigolds on and get cleaning. 🧽 On a positive note, the samosa was crisp on the outside and had a good amount of filling. The seasoning was on point. However, there wasn’t enough chickpea complementing the samosa. We will not be returning to this take away!

Always consistent, the best curry in Glasgow. Their legendary lunchtime deals have stayed the test of time.

I went for the iftari buffet tonight and unfortunately I was very disappointed. Starters were basically all fried. Nothing grilled like chicken tikka etc. Lack of options, full of greasy oil, felt absoloutely horrible after the food. Quality of the starters and mains is very poor, cheap quality for buffets. The dessert options are terrible. Save your money and stay at home if you’re after a curry… Main courses were terrible, lack of meat in the rice, haleem no lamb either, terrible!!

Avoid them at all costs if you are planning a small wedding, engagement or Nikkah event. They are a complete rip-off. They charged almost £50 per person for a small nikkah function (food and place) and the food they served and the quantity of that food were not even worth £10 per person. My guests were literally hungry. Any food that contained meat/chicken was extremely limited in quantity i.e., one small lamb chop for 5 ppl. The way they served the food was embarrassing i.e., food served in steel containers stacked on top of each other, left randomly on the tables. Hardly any waiter came to check if the food was enough or if plates cutlery etc were there. It was a total embarrassment in front of our guests. Made a complaint in writing and verbally to the restaurant and they didn't bother to even get back to us. AVOID THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU WANT TO RUIN YOUR DAY.

I ordered takeaway from UberEats and the order wasn’t delivered even after an hour. Didn’t even get a proper response when I called the restaurant. The delivery person blamed me for the delay when he arrived. No apologies. Food was okay.

Went to the village on Mother’s Day , on arrival we seen the place was quite busy ,we were directed to a table of 4 for the three off us . We were handed menus . We weren’t approached to take our order after 30min , nobody came to our table , we had to call the lady over , she arrived and took our order . After waiting over a hour for our food we had to call a waiter over to see how long we had to wait for the meal , eventually it’s arrived , a total disappointment, one member off the family ordered aloo palak and got palak paneer instead , second member ordered lamb kebab , to his amazement he only had 5 pieces os lamb what a disgrace . The final member ordered a mixed kebab on a nan and a bag chips , to his amazement the doner kebab was like leather stiff and dry , the nan was no bigger than my hand . There was only 6 pieces of chicken and lamb on the nan , total waste of £70 . To make matters worse the chips arrived after we had finished our meal .

Went here last night and got food poisoning

This review is for takeaway service and not for sit in. The order and collection process needs to be improved drastically. I placed an order at 1912 to be told it'll be ready to collect in 25 mins. I arrived 30 mins later to find out that my order hadn't even been started. Not only that, it's been 25 mins I'm here and still it's not ready. The management should have a look at this and improve it as it's happening constantly. I realise the place is busy but just be honest and say how long it's going to take rather than just lying about it and causing inconvenience.

Went there with my bf, he’s incredibly fussy and doesn’t like eating out, he much prefers home cooking and is very sceptical about anywhere serving genuine halal food etc the fact you can view the chefs preparing the food certainly helped make him feel slightly more confident about the food. He did seem to enjoy it but he was struggling to relax he’s incredibly shy but for our first time eating here it wasn’t too bad an experience, myself well I loved my food and it was almost the right amount of spice for me I should have perhaps asked for extra hot for my food but the keema was incredibly tasty and the tikka well cooked, I’d say lack of complimentary popadoms and onions defo put this place behind a lot of other restaurants offering the same if not better quality of food in and around Glasgow.

Excellent customer service by Adam, the manager, who managed our tables very well. We had a large group booking of 38 people. Everyone was very happy with their food & with the customer service. My favourite dish was the lamb biryani. I would highly recommend this place!

Great halal option for families. No alcohol served as well. Food was excellent and so was the service. We especially liked the Sindhi Biryani and lamb karhai. Haleem was not too exciting. Really liked the starters. Mango lassi was another favourite all around the table. Serving time may be improved a bit, especially during busy hours.
