Service was good, but the food was ok

My friend took me there as heard good things about this restaurant. The food definitely did not disappoint and I liked it so much that I brought my husband back there the weekend after. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Both Cauliflower and chicken 65 were really delicious. We enjoyed the dosas very much, also the tomato lentil rasam and chicken chettinadu. It’s nice and quiet during lunch time which we liked. Waitor was super friendly and checked up on us if everything is fine. I’m so happy that we’ve found a local authentic Indian restaurant within walking distance from where we live and will for sure pay more visits in the future to try other items on the menu.

16.02.23 Meal for 8 people such nice staff very well priced few starters all mains with rice and a couple drinks each was 32 pounds each very flavorsome and filling even gave us a nice takeaway box because my friend was so stuffed but didn't want to waste it - leave a cash tip if you pay on card its nicer i promise 10/10 will be coming back and recommending to friends

I think it’s the best curry in the area! Such good food and very reasonably priced. Roughly £30 for a lot of food and drink per person. Amazing quality food

We had such a lovely experience at Banana Leaf. The staff were &. Saravanan in particular was very attentive. Service was second to none and the food was delicious. Best Idli's I have had in Croydon & the Ghee masala dosa was fresh & crispy. We thoroughly enjoyed the tandoori roti & sheekh kebabs. 5☆☆☆☆☆. Will definitely be back again. Thank you 😊

We used to come here some years ago, but the quality of food and service deteriorated to a point where we said we wouldn't go back. So glad we did! Ate here for a family celebration. The service was thoughtful (one of the party is in his 90s) and friendly, and the food was delicious and inexpensive. A true cut above a run of the mill curry house, it has an interesting menu and all the meals tasted fresh and prepared with care.

My go to place for South Indian takeaway. Usually I get dosa, Malabar fish and Malabar parotha. Delicious. Fish is tangy and spicy just the way I like it. They do ask for your spice preference.

How can you not go to London and visit an Indian restaurant? Located a few minutes walk from our hotel we dropped in for a weeknight dinner and were not disappointed. It has been years since I've had a dosa and it was dull over flavour. Our korma and madras curries were very good as were the naan (peshwari for me and plain for her). The mango lassi was a perfect accompaniment as we're the poppadoms and dipping sauces. No hesitation in recommending it.

Great choice for Indian food - we have only ever had south Indian food here and it is excellent. Perfect dosas and idlis! Service is also great and quick, will definitely recommend to all for an authentic south Indian meal!

The food was super delicious and the service was warm...I really liked the idli- super soft and hot steamy...Sambhar was so authentic...Dosa was crispy and yummy utapum....needless to say we overate and realized way back

Really a 5 star south indian restaurant maintaining very high quality at great prices. We had idli, bajji, dosa, rava dosa, carrot halwa plus 2 cola and beer. All for 42 pounds which I believe is priced very low.

Hidden gem. As a family, we ordered the chettinadu, vindaloo and ginger chicken accompanied by coconut rice, garlic naan and a couple of Cobras. Everything was very flavoursome and the meat quality was great. We all loved the food! The pricing was very fair too for the size and quality. Service was prompt, really friendly and polite. We’ll definitely come here again soon.

Hi been visited banana leaf restaurant for a family dinner atmosphere was so good, and the staff so kind and good service as well, the food was amazing especially Briyani and chicken 65, mushroom 65 so good taste, mutton fry and chettinadu curry amazing taste, we definitely recommend banana leaf restaurant 10 out of 10.

Had a very good experience at the restaurant. Ordered Masala dosa and vegetarian Mixed Briyani, both were awesome. Also in the starters we had papadum with various chutney, the mango chutney in it was too good. Would definitely recommend to visit the restaurant. The atmosphere was also very friendly. We really enjoyed it.

The Banana Leaf is an old favourite of ours so we chose it to celebrate a birthday. The food was mostly delicious but we forgot the onion bhajis are nothing like the typical ones you get at an Indian restaurant/takeaway. They've got such a different taste & texture which we don't like. The service was really slow which wasn't acceptable with only 8 people (2 x tables of 2 & a table of 4) dining. Trying to get a waiter's attention was ridiculously difficult. Still gets a strong 4/5 from us though!

Good quality and taste was amazing. However, if you are lucky they serve you food in 60-90 mins. It’s all depend if you are their priority customer or not. If they have reservation for big group please do not go and get angry on service. They are really struggling with staff and don’t know how to handle multiple customers. The guy on a front desk was struggling with basic English- not very well managed. Although the food was really good but I will not recommend it.

This restaurant with its calming ambiance, charming staff and simple but fragrant array of South Indian fare is definitely up there with one of Croydon's best kept secrets (yes, there's a few thank you). Don't be put off by the less than glamourous 'environs', open the door, step inside and be transported to an oasis of kindness and nourishment.

Used to be an old family favourite and this was my first visit in 20 years - really delicious food and attentive and friendly service. Great for vegetarians - definitely recommend the utthapam and the mixed veg kothu roti.

The uttapam and paper masala dosas were great! Not oily at all and the dosas were lovely and crisp. The service was friendly and super accommodating and gave us extra coconut chutney and sambar quickly when asked! Definitely will be coming again!

We have been coming to Banana Leaf regularly for almost 20 years and it is our go to take away/meal for celebrating! The food is incredible! Masala dosa, is perfect and the veg sides - especially garlic spinach exotica - are delicious. We are vegan and we have always been so impressed about the attention paid to making sure the order is right. Service is super friendly and the chef is lovely. Order direct and collect or eat in. You won't be disappointed :)

Such great food, come back time and time again. So many vegan options. The best idly and dosa in Croydon without a doubt. The garlic spinach curry is 10/10 and masala dosa is a winner. Staff are so accommodating. Great place

A good South Indian restaurant in East Croydon and easily accessible. I usually order from a delivery app and the food is great. I have tried their Uthappam and Idly before. Took the Vada for takeaway. The staff was friendly and accommodated a request for an extra cup of sambar.

We came here expecting a nice meal and not much more. What we got was a) extremely efficient service, b)incredible tasting food and c) a very memorable and enjoyable experience. We were a group of 7 on a work do, and were catered for excellently! Particular shout out to the chilli paneer!

bought a meat chettinadu and paratha plus a chapathi to take away. The food is delicious and consistently great. And the service and customer care is spot on. Which they dont mind its a take away or dine in, the respect is equal. Even a served a glass of water which was so helpful. Thank you will always remember this place.
