Very poor food was under cooked, sent it back and left. Shame as previous chef his food was the best. Will never go back as long as the new owners are in charge

I ordered Sesame King Prawn Toast and Chicken Pineapple Fried Rice which I found to be VERY expensive at just short of £20. And I don’t think it is value for money like it once was therefore I will not eat there anymore like I used to plus I do not consider the food to be as good as it used to be. Perhaps there maybe new owners

My family have been coming here for many years. I live outside of Bolton now and had not visited since the change of owners - my meal was just as good as it used to be. I do not say lightly as someone of Chinese heritage that this is probably the best Chinese restaurant food I have ever had; portion sizes are great, reasonably priced and a great atmosphere inside - will definitely return many more times.

Unassuming-looking place with keen prices and very good food. Very good lunchtime deals. They do some authentic Hong Kong dishes and some other English takeaway style dishes. The noodle soups are very good. I especially like roast duck noodle soup with preserved vegetables. Service is efficient and it's a very friendly place. Very good Chinese tea. It can get crowded and the dining room is simple tea-shop-style, and a little bit cramped. Everything else is superb.

Sadly since the old chef has left the food has gone down hill, the food is'nt piping hot anymore, hardly any veg in the meals, just afew carrots and abit of brocolli, smaller portions, everything just seems to have been done on the cheap side and you can really tell especially for us old customers. The meat is nowhere near as good quality and the flavours just are'nt there, will only be a matter of time until people will notice the same. Sadly i will not be going back again

This is an amazing little cafe in the centre of Bolton. If you are looking for great food and great value, there is no better. The prawn toast is beyond description, as it is in a world of it's own, compared to any I have ever had before I ate here. All the different dishes I have tried, have been delicious, but the King Prawn Curry is my personal favourite. There is a special daily menu with Main(choice of 4 dishes), Dessert(Homemade Cheesecake) and a drink(No Alcohol) for £8.95. Once tried, I guarantee you will return.

Everybody i know says they love the food here and I've been a few times so I would agree however on this occasion the dishes we ordered were covered in too much sauce (they said afterwards I should have asked for sauce separately however dish being chicken in noodles didn't suggest would be so much sauce). Its a small restaurant and they do their best to fit you in. Staff are friendly and you can see they have regulars which is always a good sign. £1.75 for a tiny carton of juice is too steep! Nevertheless I take into account they are known for their authentic cooking and normally I have enjoyed it and my friends swear by it which is why I have still marked 3 stars.

Bambu has always had great food, perfectly cooked but we had a takeaway yesterday and it was obviously prepared by a different chef. Both meals were not good and tasted very sweet and were badly prepared. We will eat in the restaurant again to see if it's still the same chef and if it is we wouldn't go back again. It's it great shame if the original chef has left, he was the best.

Another visit to this little cafe in a declining part of the city centre. It continues to deliver delicious fresh home made Chinese food. The lunch we had today was just brilliant. Everything is hand made from scratch. There’s no generic Chinese supermarket bought in ingredients here. The dim sums are the best you’ll find anywhere I think. Two course lunch for three people was £37. We ordered some of he more expensive dishes. You can eat here for £8 a head. For the quality of the food that’s exceptional value. Service is now super friendly as well. My favourite place to eat now in Bolton.

A cafe/restaurant with no alcohol, incredibly restricted times of opening, and not, to be fair, a terribly inviting exterior. Inside, all is well and the food is outstanding. In fact, for the price, it comes as close as you can, to the free lunch. No-one likes prawn toast- well here you do, it's absolutely yummy. Spicy Wanton soup excellent. What a wonderful waitress! I eat at this chinese cafe regularly and have stopped going to other restaurants in Manchester. The reason is simple : I have had some quite salty meals there from too much flavour enhancer (MSG) used in the cooking. The food at Bambu is all freshly cooked (without MSG) by a husband and wife team in a small kitchen , therefore be prepared to wait a while especially if you have ordered starters. It is consistently of high quality because no other cooks are involved.I would recommend the home made roast duck and the various noodle combinations but the special dishes of the day are particularly good value (includes a drink and small dessert).

Ordinarily I wouldn't have thought to eat here but my hubby had been before and encouraged me to give it a try. From the street it looks like an over sized slightly dodgy take away in a rougher end of town but step over the threshold and its buzzing. We actually had to wait for a table at 2pm and there was a constant turnover until they closed at 4pm.We were told that our food would be about 20 mins and were given a few prawn crackers to keep us going, eventually it ended up being 45 mins and the frustrating thing was some girls came in ages after we'd sat down with a huge takeaway order which I could see was taking priority over our food. When it eventually arrived it was very good, the duck in my main "Duck and Charsu" was the best I've ever tasted and the prawns in the crispy won ton were bursting out, clearly hand made.Overall it was good, I would go back but make sure I put more time on the car park next time.

It's been a while since I last reviewed Bambu, so here goes.I have been back on numerous occasions, and have found the standards consistently excellent.I have tried various expensive restaurants in Manchester's China Town, and none of these actually compare, just regarding quality of food. Okay, so Bambu is a cafe, but what it lacks in decor more than makes up in value for money, and more importantly, an authentic Chinese meal. Also, another pleasing aspect is that it is always served piping hot, like previous reviewers point out. Highly recommended!

Responded to a personal recommendation (backed up by the strong TA rating).Chicken satay starter was tasty but meat was on the pinkish side.Asked for but couldn't elicit any help in choosing my main course. Bambu Chicken Rice turned out to be tasty but very heavy sauce, which could have been avoided with any helpful response from the waitress. The other waitress/owner was friendlier - but it really grates with me when I see other patrons (and myself) making more effort to be friendly than a member of staff seems willing or able to.Food was worth four stars but the mixed service level dragged the rating down for me.

I arrived at 12 and got the last free table. By half past there were people queuing! The mix of customers was 50/50 English and Chinese. I ordered the Special Ho-Fun. Char Sui, Beef, Duck, Prawns, AND Tofu stir fried with bean sprouts, fresh ginger, four or five different fresh vegetables, and a pile of rice noodles in a tasty but not strongly flavored sauce so you could taste all the ingredients separately. And they all tasted pretty damn good! The food arrived quickly despite the fact that it was busy and was that fresh out of the wok, it was too hot to eat when first brought to the table. This is a place to eat fantastic Chinese food for a quick lunch, nothing more. It's cramped when busy and there's little in the way of a welcome from the host, though to be fair I really don't think she was in the least rude or offhand with me but she did seem stressed out and there was little in the way of a smile or conversation but I don't really care that much about that. I go for the food not the "restaurant ambiance" One last tip is, don't let the complimentary prawn crackers they serve put you off. They're still a bit curled up round the edges. The rest of the food offering is nothing like that at all. Large Main course, and pot of Chinese tea came to £10 exactly (my dish was one of the more expensive ones you can eat well here for £6-8 per head.)

We have been coming to this cafe for months as we really enjoy the noodle soup me and my partner are a big fans of Asian food. Sadly we feel we feel we can no longer give this business out custom due to the increasingly awful service from the older waitress/ possibly manager at this establishment. She is rude to us every time we come and see it appears to be getting worse with every visit. It makes the atmosphere of what would otherwise be a wonderful cafe miserable. Food is great but the service of this one person is going to drive this business under sadly. Spoken to many other people in the restaurant who feel the same.

The older lady who works in the restaurant is horrible and rude , they need to get rid of her as the other waitresses are lovely , food is great but atmosphere is not good due to this waitress/manager

Waitresses either chatting amongst themselves, while senior staff were miserable as hell. I felt like a massive inconvenience which is a shame as the food was excellent. I didn't tip the service as there was none. I was also treated to a bizarre gathering of restaurant staff and a couple that knew them with a child at the end and sides of a single table, with little regard to the space of the customer. I won't be going back although the chef was clearly talented.

Love the food in this little place but the service is terrible. If your food is not slammed on the table your lucky. That said, the chefs are excellent and the food lovely. Only visit if you don't mind bad service and being barked at.

I love this place. I ordered the king prawn special curry and it was delicious. The food doesn't take long to arrive. Some of the staff are lovely and smile but one lady doesn't seem to do this. She makes you feel like you are a burden. I left a tip and it was a quick thanks no smile which i found rude. I will be back to order more delicious curry's mmmmm.

This place is amazing. It is small and very 'hole in the wall' , but the quality of food and the dishes they create are spectacular. We will be returning every chance we get.

Called in for lunch, A good choice of specials, tea or coffee and desert for £5.80p.Food was very good, I had chicken in black bean sauce it was fresh, hot, and wholesome. Service was prompt. I felt that the head waitress would benefit from a smilling course, otherwise exellent. Will return.

I've eaten here a few times and never been anything other than delighted with the quality of the food. Every dish is prepared freshly to order.(with one exception I think, see below) Ingredients are very obviously the freshest, the flavors are delicious and judging by the number of Chinese customers in the place, authentic. Portions sizes range from large for the stir fried dishes to enormous for the noodle soup based dishes. This is a lunchtime cafe. They close late afternoon I believe and there's no alcohol licence. Neither of these is a problem for me as I visit when I'm in town for business during the day. There are two reasons why this place didn't get 5 stars from me, both are minor. There is one member of staff who gives the impression that she would rather the place be exclusive to Chinese customers. Never rude nor discourteous just cold and businesslike, no smiles or conversation making you feel ever so slightly unwelcome. This might not even be intentional just a cultural or language issue but it is noticeable. Other staff are welcoming and friendly. Secondly the prawn crackers they serve as complimentary appetizers are often tough, chewy and oily. However both of these issues should be overlooked because as I said they are minor drawbacks and the rest of the food offering is really great.

Popped in here early before the lunchtime rush. Service prompt and waiter very friendly. Stuffed chicken legs and gyozu for starters followed by chicken stir fry and chilli king prawn. Free prawn crackers while waiting a nice touch. Meals both piping hot, portions on the large side, although a small size is offered. All the food was lovely . The café also offers a daily special for less than £6, main course , drink and sweet. Paid bill and shocked at how cheap. Two After Eight type mints given on payment. I know this place gets very busy and with the standard of food and keen pricing I can see why. A must for a casual lunchtime snack.

I tried Bambu for the first time last week and was delighted with what I found! If you are looking for a chic, glamorous venue ,forget it. This is in effect a Chinese cafe, free of alcohol and pretension. The food is good, piping hot, fresh and judging by the majority of the customers ,authentic. I was bewitched and impressed by several oriental babies who were with their parents and the trouble tIhe hard working staff went to to keep the little ones happy. If you are looking for a good value, hearty meal in simple surroundings please give this place a try, I don't think you will be dissappointed.

Had this little oriental café recommended to me and it didn't disappoint. Bolton had been crying out for a good noodle café for ages and the food in here is ace. Freshly cooked, no msg and a great change from the generic Chinese takeaways. Will be back regularly if they keep up this standard..

I am a regular visitor to this establishment, as are many other members of the legal profession who work in the courts locally. I cannot fault the food, it really is excellent. It is extremely fresh, served hot and is fantastic value. It is also served very quickly, great if you have little time. The only thing that lets the place down is the very grumpy head waitress, who is rude beyond belief , unless you are Chinese. At first, I thought that it was only me, but having spoken with other people who have visited, they have also made the same comment. It really is a shame as clearly the chef and other members of staff work very hard to keep this place at a standard which is extremely high. I really cannot fault it other than this waitress, very highly recommended.
