I’m surprised about the other reviews. This is the first time we use this little gem and I can honestly say I couldn’t fault it sweet and sour King prawn ! beautiful. The soup was very flavoursome and the ribs were to die for.

Disgusting, chicken curry was bland watery and had more bamboo and water chestnuts than anything, special chow mein was so overcookedvthe noodles had broke down into mushy bits, 2 pieces of pork and a piece of chicken in tub, tasted bland too, singapore fried rice which i asked to be xtra spicy may as well bin egg fried rice, hardly any spice ,taste or meat and shrimp. All in all really dire , if id of been closer to place id of taken back and given them a piece of my mind. Avoid avoid

The food was cold . The portions for the price were awful certainly not worth the money. The egg fried rice wasn’t a true egg fried rice. The bbq ribs were minuscule with hardly any sauce . The chips were cold and less than half a bag . The chicken balls was mostly batter . Wouldn’t waste your money

Awful food, small portions and everything tastes the same - bland. We were a large group and ordered many different dishes, all were bland at best, curry sauce was gloopy and a disgusting colour, BBQ sauce was very vinegary. My chicken fried rice had very little chicken and was tasteless. We spent over £120, don't waste your money.

Soup and black bean sauce dishes inedible - was so thick and gloopy it had the texture of wallpaper paste. I am actually gagging as I write this at the thought of it. Ordered two noodle dishes - Singapore vegetarian noodles which looked identical to the Mee Goreng prawn and chicken noodles and tasted pretty much the same. Neither had a defined taste and neither were remotely spicy. Just greasy and stomach churning. Salt and pepper spare ribs were neither salty nor peppery and covered in a foul undercooked floury batter. Crispy seaweed was so salty and fishy could only stomach a mouthful. It all went in the bin. £32 well spent …. One star because it won’t let me do no stars

Common Courtesy and a warm service is all part of the food experience. Unfortunately I am not sure this was explained to the staff of this takeaway. I ordered my food by phone. I have been double vaccinated. Took a test an hour before attending this takeaway ( The test is necessary for work) On arriving to collect my food. The absolutely rude assistant asked me in an abrupt manner for my mask. I explained I am exempt and her attitude was astounding she grabbed her jumper and gesticulated to me to put my T-shirt over my face. This was despite having a a Perspex screen between her and I and a dish to take the money. Her tone was quite unnecessary. I will never purchase food from in my opinion an abominable customer service experience. This was made worse by the poor food.

We’re staying not far from Ilfracombe so thought a night in the lodge with a take away would be a nice treat. Cost of £65 for the 6 of us. It started off fine with pancake rolls, which were a good size and nice and crispy, but went downhill from here. The chicken satay came with a pour on sauce, which initially we thought was great, however, this meant the chicken on the skewers was hard and dry and difficult to remove with hardly any taste. The crispy duck was edible but we had to shred ourselves, and parts were too crispy. As another reviewer mentioned the chow mien was almost black and full of grease. The sweet and sour chicken balls were soggy and tasteless. We asked if they could do Kung po chicken which they said yes, however this was just the sweet and sour chicken with pineapple, again with little taste. Overall very disappointing meal.

Bought a takeaway for the kids while we went out to dinner. We have had some mediocre takeaways in North Devon, so we pleasantly surprised that this was great. The kids left nothing edible behind and all raved on about the sweet and sour chicken, chow mein and crispy beef. Demolished in minutes. Cash only accepted.

We had a 2 hour wait for a family takeaway. Ordered at 6pm, informed not ready until at least 8pm. There were no customers in the shop and they did not appear busy upon collection.Very expensive prices compared to our local Chinese Takeaway and upon getting our order, the portions were minimal with boxes being only half full. The food was warn, not hot and gave the impression it had been ready and waiting for a while prior to our collection.Very little chicken in the battered chicken dishes like sweet and sour and lemon chicken. These orders were also ‘tasteless’ and ‘cardboard’ like in texture.3 out of 4 of us had an upset stomach next morning.Hygiene rating of 5, I would question this.It appears the business rely on the fact that customers are holiday makers with little other option for Chinese takeaway choice. Do not use this Chinese Takeaway!

I'm sorry to say this is the worst Chinese/Asian food I have ever eaten. We spent over £80 on a good mix of dishes from Wontons to brocolli beef, noodles to Malaysian chicken and sadly there isn't a single dish I can recommend. I left most of the food on my plate as did the others. Greasy, tasteless, stodgy and over deep fried. No fresh flavours and a real disappointment. So our Friday night takeaway made for a hungry evening.

Bought food for two. Food was awful, one meal went straight into the bin. It was sweet and sour chicken balls and egg fried rice. The chicken appeared to be processed and compressed into chunks which tasted nothing like chicken. The batter was soft as though it had been reheated in the microwave and there was a thick grey layer between the chicken and the batter. Rice was boiled white rice with a tiny bit of egg in it. The second meal didn't taste any better but was eaten. The next day was spent with an upset tummy. May or may not be connected, but we won't be going back to find out!

Ate here just the once. Ordered for a party of 4 and had a large selection of dishes. We weren't looking for perfection by any means, just wanted something tasty and quick on a Sunday evening.Whilst the staff were lovely and very helpful, the food left a lot to be desired. Got the impression the dishes had just been reheated. Meat was dry and tough, a couple of the dishes were completely wrong and the lemon chicken was inedible with dry white stale batter and jelly-like 'sauce'.It was a shame but would suggest you go elsewhere in all honesty.

On our last night of our holiday we decided to take a Chinese meal back to our chalet and chose Bamboo Palace. I have allergies, and asked the lady serving if I could eat the noodles, since I couldn't she offered to cook a different kind of noodles in the same way and then, without being asked went through everything else in our order explaining which I could and couldn't eat. Trust me, this doesn't happen in restaurants and take always all the time so I was really surprised and appreciative of it. The food it self was priced very reasonably and was delicious! We were so full afterwards we had to go for a walk along the beach to recover! We would definitely eat here again. Fantastic!

I'm unsure about what a couple of the folk below have said, maybe they weren't speaking very clearly, or they'd been enjoying the wonderful night life of Ilfracombe before they went to the Bamboo Palace and just forgot what they ordered, we've all been there and no-one's to blame. As for my personal experience of the delectable culinary treats found in this veritable den of quality I grub, I cannot speak highly enough, mere words do such wonder no justice. This being said it would be remiss of me not to say how mouth wateringly tender the meat in their special chow mein is, how sumptuous and perfectly spiced the Garlic prawns are, nor indeed how simple rice can taste so good it would be fit to serve up to the Gods. The owners are charming friendly individuals (who speak perfect English) and the quality of service is matched only by the wonder of the foods prepared therein. I would recommend this takeaway, 'The Bamboo Palace' to any of my ancestors, of whom I hold in highest regard, indeed I almost feel sorry for them, beyond their graves they must be able to smell the gorgeous feasts of the bamboo palace, for heaven sent food surely returns to it's origins. ©David Nickle Read 2014

Plenty of lightly battered, salted Chicken pieces, sliced onions, peppers & spring onions with lots of ferociously HOT🌶 chilli slices. NICE!!!! 61 Curry, Beef: Simply thick sliced beef, onions & peas in a dark brown curry gravy with an Unusual stale "used oil" aroma. The owner has been very rude to my husband. After we paid for delivery she wanted us to go out in the street and wait for her so she doesn’t need to look for our house. My husband went outside to wait for her, she stopped up the street , rang us and asked my husband to go up there for the food. When my husband kindly asked her to drive down the street to him she started to yell at him calling him uncivilised. The food wasn’t that good either. I will definitely not order from here again and I am not recommending this service at all. Very disappointed
