Another enjoyable visit to The Baltic today. We also had some lovely food in the cafe - much improved since our last visit. Trout bagel, tuna toasties, blondie and coffees were all lovely and fresh at very reasonable price. Great helpful and friendly staff and service in comfortable airy space. We look fwd to returning soon x

Despite being a busy lunch time we didn't have to wait long to receive 2 delicious coffees following our walk across 4 bridges. The establishment was clean, and although we chose to drink our coffees outside, we were made to feel very welcome and offered an indoor seat whilst waiting.

Terrible. We ordered and could see the staff had forgotten us. After about 20 minutes we got our teas and probably the worst piece of "cake" I've seen. It was the end piece and totally dry. How anyone has the nerve to charge £4.50 for it... I'd never go back.

To start, the service was absolutely shocking. No staff had any interpersonal skills. 3 people stared at me as I stood at the counter waiting to order where I asked if I could place my order. One guy was sulking behind the counter (no idea why), which made me feel like a huge inconvenience to be there. I tried to order a cheese toastie, they had none left (fair enough), so I grabbed a sandwich from the fridge, beetroot and chickpea on sourdough bread. It was difficult to eat anyway as it wasn't cut it half, then I thought this just tastes like beetroot. I opened it up and there's hardly any chickpeas and ligerally 2 rocket leaves. So paid £7.50 for 2 slices of bread, grated beetroot and a tight scatter of chickpeas, a pathetic amount of salad in it, which ultimately had no taste. Probably won't return.

Just got a tea and a coffee at the cafe... as that's all it is ....Sat outside. We were charged a service charge on the bill for 2 drinks!!! My advice is dont go here! Try the fantastic Staithes Cafe further along the river or the Cycle hub on the Newcastle side . Both better service more of a range of goods on offer and they don't con you with a service charge on a coffee in a paper cup.

Overall the cafe was fine but the soup (chicken and mushroom) was certainly not my style. The service was slow as we waited over half an hour. I mentioned about the soup to the waitress as it was such a strange texture and she explianed that it was a new recipe that had been started to be used in Janaury. The texture just didn't "work" as it was grainy more like pureed toddler baby food. I probably would eat there again but certainly avoid the soup.

I was very disappointing with the Baltic kitchen when we visited this morning prior to visiting the Baltic contemporary art centre. We arrived at 11.15. I have coeliac disease and was very disappointed to be told that there were no gluten free biscuits or cakes for me. It was too early for lunch which did offer some gluten free foods. I could only have a latte and had to wait 10 minutes for it . It was tepid when it arrived. My partner had a breakfast roll which he said was ok. Approximately 1per cent of the population have coeliac disease. This is not a fad diet for us. We cannot eat anything with gluten in because it makes us ill. It is an autoimmune disease and symptoms are controlled with a gluten free diet. My partner and I enjoy eating out. I have had coeliac disease for over 30 years and nearly everywhere we go to eat I have some gluten free options. I would ask the management to think about providing gluten free options in the future for people like me who cannot eat the cakes, scones and biscuits which were the only things on offer this morning with coffee. We went to the Sage after visiting the exhibitions in the Baltic and I'm pleased to say I had a very tasty slice of gluten free carrot cake.

We visited the Baltic today to catch some actual culture with the Wells family artist visiting this weekend and popped to get a snack. It’s a nice looking cafe on the ground floor and we were mainly after food for mini Wells after a good play in one of the installations. The kids sandwich box is £4.95 for 4 pieces but when it came I thought it looked good as the sandwich had fresh ham and was full size. The bread was, however, as dry as old sticks. The carrot cake was bland and small pieces so we were quite disappointed. The only thing saving this from a 2 🌟 is the cauliflower soup which we had with bread. It was really tasty. All in all, it’s ok. Maybe we would have done better with the hot food. The only other option for kids however is soup.

On a casual visit we stopped for a cup of tea and a sandwich. Nice setting pity about the horrendous sting when buying anything. £1.95 tea bag tea, £2.95 latte and a £3.95 tea cake. We could only afford one. If we could have walked better we would have sought somewhere cheaper and as good as this eatery. The Baltic is offering nothing a local cafe offers just triple price. Sorry crap rating for crap prices. Eat elsewhere before you come.

Friendly staff and busy cleaning or serving regularly. Children in abundance. Quite small space with background music. Jacket potato poor value for money. At time of publication ; £6.50 for a small amount of cheese and a drizzle of spring onions. Surely, a side salad wouldn’t go amiss for this price? The chickpea wrap was better value. Coffee made well but will try other eateries on our next visit.

Dreadful - why are arts venues so bad at catering? There is a captive audience on this cold Sunday afternoon. Myself, my son, gran sister and two nieces went to the family day at the Baltic museum last week. My gran had received a leaflet through the post advertising this. On the back it had advertised free coffee with the leaflet as well as kids snack boxes 2 for £5. So we decided to get a bite to eat after the family day in the cafe as the kids where hungry. Upon ordering we where told that they would not honour the leaflet as apparently the Baltic museum has not asked the cafe before making the deal. Which is ridiculous. There was hundreds of people at the museum that day. Many would have found out by the leaflet. If your advertising for that price you just legally honour that price. If I went into a supermarket and something is priced wrong they have to honour there mistake. Pathetic. We ordered anyway which came to well over £40. We waited 25 minutes for bacon sandwiches and 4 kids boxes. When the food came we realised why it took so long. The buns had been defrosted. The top bun was warm and soggy and the bottom bun ice cold. For the price you pay you would expect better food. WILL NOT be going again and will be advising people to do the same.

Wife, son and grandson visited whilst grandson awaited interview. This place has a vibrant atmosphere, and we had teas, coffees, and bacon sandwiches. At £4 50, the bacon sandwiches really should have had a spread or butter on it, but no. That's expensive, nice or not. I left my family to explore the art centre and went to the observation deck and the views are wonderful. As all art is subjective, my opinion is that this art is twaddle, and especially the descriptions accompanying the "art"...Aristic academics, are very adept at couching their descriptions in fine obfuscation. This is an attempt to marginilise the artist as special, and above tge reasonable intellect, of the viewer. Art can move me to tears at times, such is its previous beauty. High art should show extraordinary talent as a prerequisite. Not here...Ill certainly return to the cafe when I'm in the area, and hopefully the exhibition has changed.

I had a broccoli starter then vegetarian ravioli, partner had salmon then venison (both of which he raved about). I give it 4 rather than 5 because the veggie options weren’t as stunning as the meat-based ones apparently were, and (perhaps reflecting our Yorkshire and Scots backgrounds) the high prices irritated us. But, despite the pretension of the place overall, the waiter was very down to earth and friendly. I’d certainly recommend to non-vegetarians for a special occasion.

A great addition to any visit to Baltic - the food is wonderful, we had a fish finger sandwich and a ham roll - really tasty, fresh bread rolls, lots of filling, homemade fish fingers and a lovely light salad on the side. The drinks and cakes afterwards were also great. Charming staff helped to make it a great visit.

My wife and I visited BALTIC Kitchen for a light lunch this week. She had the BLT with Mayo and I went for the Chorizo & Mozzarella toastie. Both were served with salad in an especially zingy dressing. Flavour, quality and quantity all got big ticks so we thought it was pretty good value too.I agreed with my wife’s verdict on the food – ‘delicious and we must return to try other dishes on the menu’. We also plan to visit 'The Sill' - the new visitor centre on Hadrian's Wall where Fresh Element (the same catering outfit) are set to open a cafe next Saturday (29/7/17).

A nice sit down with a cup of coffee after having viewed the galleries (although the chairs aren't very comfortable). There's a buzz about the cafe and the staff were friendly.

Excellent Baltic café, Great outside seating with the view of the Millennium Bridge and amazing coffee - my flat White and Penne Pasta T & Mozzarella salad was fantastic and served up by the friendliest person ever and that made it even more enjoyable.  They had a full food menu on offer at the sixth floor restaurant hopefully next time I try the lunch menu at six

We enjoyed our first lunch here so much we came back the next day. Nothing exotic, just good sandwiches and toasties attractively served with good quality ingredients and an interesting salad. Gets the full five stars because it's also reasonably priced for the location.

I thought the food was fantastic- even though "regular bread" was not available the gluten free bread was good so it didn't matter. Good selection of vegetarian and non vegetarian foods, nice salads to choose from too. Overall really enjoyed the experience, lovely friendly staff too!

we have only just returned to Australia from six weeks in Europe, Poland, Czech, Italy, France and London in which times we ate in resturants daily. We spent time in an hotel on the opposite bank of the river to Baltic Kitchen and visited the art gallery there. We had been recommended to try having lunch at Baltic Resturant and did so most delightedly. The service was excellent, friendly and efficient, the food was simply beautiful, works of art no doubt cooked in front of us by a chef with whom we spoke. Altogether a most professional, clean, caring place to eat, a place in which Newcastle should be proud

I ate lunch here with a friend in early June. We ordered toasted sandwiches. The range of fillings was fine and the service was ok too, but when they came we honestly feared for our teeth! The toast was unbelievably crunchy, so much so that it was practically impossible to bit through the crusts and we had to break the sandwiches up by hand. Not a pleasant eating experience, I'm afraid, Unfortunately, the garnish was also very overdone in terms of quantity - more than half the plate was taken up with a mound of rocket leaves and nothing else. Even though the leaves had a dressing on, it was very sparse considering the amount of greenery on the plate. A disappointing experience, I'm afraid.
