Balti Spice in St. Helens

Very reasonably priced, delicious curries and they also had a big bottle of Kingfisher beer for me

Had a lovely meal with my friend. Waiter was very attentive.

Poor tasteless food had a special balti hardly any meat or chicken prawns were overcooked and smaller than my fingernail. Onion Bhaji was burnt as was my Garlic Naan hardly any curry sauce had to ask for some. Beer was flat and its a dirty place it's the first and last time in here absolutely shocking & a complete waste of money. The Palace up the road is 10 times better as is Bar Bursi and Diya on the east Lancs Road .

This used to be our favourite Indian, but now (in the week at least) it has gone down hill a lot. Last Thursday Instead of lamb harry potter I got a Korma (basically a desert with lamb in it) with some mint added, and a few weeks ago my curry was 80% onion. very little meat. None of the dry food tastes fresh anymore, bread is dried out and hard, poppadom's are stale like they are left over from the weekend. It might be ok on weekends but in the week at least avoid. We have changed to a different restaurant now. Balti spice is quite expensive in comparison, it used to be worth paying the extra.

Best Indian restaurant in St Helens! Slightly expensive (2 course meal for two with drinks £40-50) but well worth the price. The food is exceptional with good portion sizes and the service exemplary. I can highly recommend and will definitely be returning again soon.

Food is lovely but our collection order is always wrong... Unfortunately again tonight we were missing items and wrong naan bread yet again. Happens every time!

Came here a few years ago for the set meal tried it again tonight and left feeling ripped off.Although the price had increased by £2 we were charged full price We understood we had to choose starters under £3.25 and main dishes under £9.95 which we did. THE BILL WE EXPECTED SHOULD OF BEEN £32 but the bill we got was over £45 After checking with the waitress she passed the buck to the waiter who told us the bill couldn't be changed over charged and felt humiliated and Angry. DO NOT GO AND GET RIPPED OFF

Came for a meal with the Wife, we asked the waitress about the special offer to which she said it as gone up to £11.95 now. So we chose off that menu and a male waiter came to take our order. The food was good. But when we got our bill instead of £32 it was £45 they had charged us individual prices instead of the set price. When we complained they said they had written the bill out now and couldn't be changed. It isn't that we couldn't afford it, but they are definitely ripping customers off. We will never go back and tell our friends about this on Facebook.

Ordered a selection of food for four to eat at home .All dishes piping hot and each was great in its own way . Complementary poppadoms and accompanying garnishes were a brilliant start to a very nice meal

Definitely my favourite place to just plonk myself down and stuff myself with delicious food. Value wise not many places have balti spice bested, but food wise I don't think anywhere does. All the staff are extremely friendly and accommodating (quite happy to try mixing stuff up with off menu creations or change the heat of dishes etc) Generally just a cracking place to have a curry.

Arrived 25 mins early. A lot of very lovely tasty food. Will definitely use again.

Hands down best curries I've ever had in the northwest. Highly recommend both the Goan masala and Sindi Korma. Food is spectacular, service matches! Decor is a little dated but only adds to the experience!

Won't be back! First time ordering I ordered chicken cheese kofta and received a watery korma with onion bhajis as "meat" I was told when I rang that it was chicken cheese and onion meatballs 🤣 NO meat was found in this curry I'm allergic to onion bhajis also there was no cheese either and apparently the same curry I have ordered for 7 years was the curry I received tonight a onion bhaji korma when usually I receive a red spicy curry with tomatoes herbs keema meatballs and chicken. No apologies typical from a restaurant way overcharging.

Popped in to see Steve and the team for a birthday meal. The service is always spot-on as is the help from Steve when choosing your meal. Always leave absolutely stuffed, especially on this occasion! The coffee and brandy definitely topped off a fantastic evening! Thanks for looking after Steve as always !

I used to go here years ago with my mum I went today and the food very bland it seemed to have less meat and more sauce it wasn't the best I don't usually like to give negative feedback but sometimes it's needed to improve

Absolutely spectacular eating experience. Ability to order a Korma as hot as you like while retaining all the flavour and a Vindaloo as mild as you wish

Great food, great service, great price. We have had take aways before from here but had never eaten in. There is a wide range of food on offer and the quality is unrivalled in this area. The waiters are discreet, polite and knowledgeable and I couldn't believe the price. We have paid a lot more for worse food service and atmosphere. We will definitely be going back.

Ordered a takeaway from here using the new st helens app. Delivery was so quick - half an hour before due and all the food was piping hot. We ordered a set menu for 2 as it was such a great price. From the starters to the main courses, the food was all absolutely delicious. My mum said it was the best takeaway she had eaten since moving up here a month ago. Will definitely be using again and cannot recommend enough if you want a delicious meal. Thank you Balti Spice!

Worst Indian I have ever had🤢 waited 2 hours for it to be delivered no exaggeration, onion bhajis were raw, rice undercooked and keema naan smelt like it’d been made 2 week ago! Thought I’d give it a try as all I seen were good reviews but I will never be eating here again absolute shambles

Can't fault this place I've ordered numerous times.I ordered 1 busy night, and they had a driver phone in sick. My meal that night was cold. Phone them, and the manager explained what happened. I said he would give me a free meal next order just phoned and he remembered me to his credit he given me free meal so if you love Indian food this place is a must 5 stars all round best in St helens

It really isn’t JUST about the excellent food at Balti Spice. The ambience is perfect! Every friend I take there becomes a raving fan and returns again and again. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is really relaxed and comfortable. Mustn’t forget to mention that it’s very affordable too! Small, cosy, buzzing, friendly, relaxing, welcoming, affordable, delicious.

Great curry house,owner & staff very obliging and couldn't do enough for you,food exceptional,do an early bird menu from 5pm to 9 pm,Monday to Thursday,fantastic value worth every penny,will be going back very soon.Not your restaurant ambience,more like a cafe but don't let this put you off experiencing,very good food 👍👍

The best takeaway in the town. Very reasonably priced, incredible food. The welcome you get is wonderful too. Top class local independent business.

Balti Spice is a simple, small Indian restaurant that serves some of the finest Indian food I've eaten in a long time. If you have to wait for a table do so - it is well worth it! The team at Balti Spice provide excellent service too - I highly recommend this restaurant 👍🏻

Always order from here due to having the best vegetarian options, went inside for a sit down meal for the first time in a couple of years and it was even nicer than delivery. The staff are so helpful and recommended dishes which they thought would suit our tastes if we fancied trying something different. Only a little restaurant, thankyou for a lovely time :)

Its a decent curry at a very good price. No fancy Deco, just good food.

Came as a booking loads of us! I must say considering how busy it was service was still top! The owner is a top guy absolute legend looks after his customers! The lads that work in front are top lads to can't fault them very attentive well mannered lads!! Food is mediocre but the atmosphere and the service from front house makes up for it. Food definitely needs improving but everything else is fantastic!!

I'll keep it brief as I like this place. See previous review. If they could please stop telling little lies about the use of red food dye in their main courses it would be good!! It looks fake and makes your generally very good food look silly. Cost of living. They have upped their prices a little, which in my opinion is totally fine, everyone is and so they should. However, they still advertise old prices visually at the restaurant and online and charge more on collection. I think this is possibly legally wrong or certainly not moral. Drop the red food dye from mains and be honest about prices please. Still getting 4 stars as you would get 5 if honest.

Took my Partner here she has never had an Indian meal in a proper Indian restaurant. Greeted by happy smiling staff and ordered drinks, Menu very extensive so we will be back to try more soon. The food from the starter through to desert was nothing short of fantastic lots of flavours and choice. I will do photos next time.

Hate giving poor reviews but my delivery was the worst Indian meal I have ever had. Poppadoms soft. Fish tikka cooked within an inch of its life so hard it was inedible. Tandoori Cocktail main was again cooked to death. Curry insipid watery and no flavour at all. I’m so sorry to post this but I-cannot believe the other review. £22 to throw in the bin. The food was nothing short of disgusting.

Ste the owner is the gentleman who started his restaurant skills way back in the 70's. He was a very loyal waiter at the Indian restaurant opposite The Theater Royal. He's dedicated his life to St Helens and I am proud that he serves the very best and fresh ingredients at his restaurant in Duke Street, 'The Balti Spice'. I highly recommend Ste's establishment. I will admit, I love Indian food and the Balti Spice, is certainly the best of the best. Ste also serves several very chilled beers.

The Currys are always delicious from this place, the service is amazing staff are very attentive

The chef has some real flavours popping in this place. If you can cast you're mind back to the old fashioned Indian restaurants then you are in for a treat. Yet this place has some really wholesomely touching foods. Like the rolling stones this place plays all of its old classic hits with a nostalgic passion for the past.🙏 Satisfaction is guaranteed 💜

First order tonight as my usual curry spot has gone down hill and was very pleased. Hot, fresh and great portions. Was delivered very quick (around 20 minutes). Delivery woman was very polite and friendly. Next time I'd love a little wedge of lemon to squeeze into the Madras myself. I wonder if they'd accommodate it? Best Indian Restaurant! A wide variety of Indian dishes together with warm and friendly owner and staff. Goes that little bit further that makes all the difference. Reasonable prices too.

What a find. Would travel from Wales to visit again. Plenty of tasty food with friendly co-operative staff who wanted you to enjoy the whole experience. Brilliant.

This is a review based on 6 or 7 takeaways over the last 4 months. We always pick ou our food, not delivery due to where we live and to get a meal that is not hot is not the chefs fault, use your microwave or pans! Value for money, Balti Spice St. Helens would win national awards, what you can get for £10.95 special offer will feed you at least two meals, unless you are super hungry! The quality of the food is really good. I have had bigger chicken tikka pieces in a dish, but paid a lot more. Breads, side dishes and rice all again really good. Never has a dish been greasy or had oil floating on top, this can be off putting. At collection, friendly conversation always has been experienced. Finally.... I am a fan of hot curry, a vindaloo is like 'chippy curry' to me, so to get a phaal that can really pack a punch is fantastic. It gets hotter - in over 25 years enjoying Indian food so much, one of the hottest curries I have ever ENJOYED (it is hot ) came from here - Chicken Korachi. When you are paying and the order taker says "It's really hot are you sure" you know you are getting something a bit unique. I'd certainly say give this place a go.

Tonight we had a takeaway delivered and we are so disappointed. The food could not be described as hot or even warm. The food was STONE COLD. I can only assume the food has been sitting around waiting to be delivered. The curry and rice had to be heated in the microwave before we could attempt to eat them. The chips and Nan bread had to be thrown away as due to condensation inside their bags they had become soaking wet. Not a nice meal or experience and it will be a while before we think of ordering again. Waste of our hard earned money. VERY DISSATISFIED CUATOMER

My family and myself regularly visit Balti Spice. Always fantastic service and we are so well looked after. The food is absolutely brilliant and such good value. They cater really well for vegans and vegetarians too. Over lockdown we got takeaways from here which were also absolutely divine. Thanks guys.

Average. Korma wasn’t sweet or creamy, golkhani Aloo was tasteless. Ceylon was okay, Peshawari naan didn’t taste if coconut. Good was all hot and fresh though

There are plenty Indian restaurants serving good food but what makes this special is the intimate atmosphere and the huge effort made by the owner to make time for his customers. Everyone is made to feel like a friend. The food is always excellent and I’ve never had chicken samosa anywhere else - plus you can ask for low calorie versions of the curries!

Up from Essex visiting friends, this is their favourite takeaway. Decided to eat in the restaurant on this occasion and are we glad we did.I started work in 1985 just a short walk from the famous Brick Lane in London. I have as you can imagine, eaten a hell of a lot of curries since then. That said, what I ate tonight - the zalzala thawa - was simply outstanding. A rich thick sauce, full of spice and flavour. Not for the faint hearted - but don't let that deter you. To cap it all, the owner Steve is probably one of the nicest human beings you could ever wish to meet. Next time you're in town, please call by and give it a go. You won't be disappointed

One of the best Indians in the area. Quality food, quality price. Ate in here loads of times and they have never missed the mark, food is great, the staff are great and the prices are great too. Takeaway is just as good too. A real hidden gem in the area.
