Staff very friendly and helpful. Not quite wheelchair friendly but they go out of their way to help. Food fresh with own flavor. Nice size portions not crazy big portions. No outdoor space. Parking outside. Little bar for alcohol drinks. They do local delivery.

The flavour and spice of the food was lovely, the actual temperature of the food was warm at best.

We have a takeaway the food Was very waterry and blend we never had a disgusting curry like this place, in the chicken bhoona very small 5 pcs chicken, onion bhai burnt, naan bread was raw not well cooked, we didn't enjoy our food Put it in the bin and wasted our money Not recommend this place

Order was late I called the lovely receptionist she was very young but tried to help, the order was wrong they did try but it wasn’t very tasty, no meat 3 bits of chicken in one order, really unpleasant, actually had a meal deal in a supermarket that had more of an authentic taste! Never again ! Late ,not worth the money ,used to be an amazing restaurant in its day but not any more.

Unfortunately we didn’t receive the roti we ordered- but the rest of the order was amazing!

So disappointed. I ordered poppadoms, paid 95p for each dip (x2) which were no more than two teaspoons worth. Naan bread wasn’t fresh and it was tiny for £3.95! Curry wasn’t too bad but was let down by the quantity vs price. I don’t mind paying if the curry was fantastic, but it wasn’t.

Order to delivery took 1hr 40mins. From latest delivery time, it was 30mins late. Phoned the restaurant at 20mins late, was told he would phone back with estimated time, never did. Luckily only waited another 10mins. Food was nice but Luke warm and had to blast it in the microwave!!

We went to this restaurant last week in the evening. We had been travelling and were cold, hungry and tired. We ordered starters which were very mediocre and charged £6.75 for 1 butterfly prawn! Papadoms were £1.20 each. We ordered lamb dansak but received chicken and the sauce was very tomatoey, instead of lovely spiced lentil. We decided to share a rice, as portion sizes are usually quite generous. Not here! £4 .50 for about 4 table spoons. Had to ask for another. Our bill was £52.45 for a poor substitute for curry for 2 people and that was without drinks which we noticed later he appeared to have forgotten to add to the bill. Pleased we didn't complain, it would have given him time to remember the beers!

Food was great, hour and a half late on delivery

The food was on time, hot and very tasty. My only disappointment was that I ordered (online) a Chicken Korai but I received a Chicken Korma, which is a very different dish. That said, it was a very nice Korma, just not what I wanted but we will definatley use Balto Island again.

Thought we would give this a try again as didn’t fancy going to weymouth like normal and saw reviews had improved. Chicken tikka and tandoori was very very dry. The madras was so hot - it couldn’t be eaten. It Definitely wasn’t madras and was just pure heat and spice making it unbearable. The popadoms were stale. The onion Bhaji was ok but over cooked and too crunchy. Will stick to going into weymouth for our curry.

Strange but true there’s a distinct lack of places to actually eat in on Portland. We had been recommended the Balti Island by the B&B we were staying at. The food was tasty. Service was attentive without being intrusive.

We were told the restaurant was full despite there being several empty tables that were apparently reserved. So we ordered a takeaway. By the time it was ready the restaurant was empty!! Food was awful. The saag paneer was utterly bizarre, korma sauce topped with mozzarella string cheese? I couldn’t face it so it went straight in the bin.

For some reason their prices on their on website are extremely higher than just eats. £9.95 for chicken Tikka madras which we couldn't eat as watered down, no spices nothing. Need to sort out your huge price difference as meal was £10 MORE than usual. On ringing to ask you didn't want to know and said "I don't know how much a curry is".

We were on holiday for a couple of days and fancied an Indian. Saw this restaurant as were passing by and looked nice inside. That is where it stopped. The food served could not be recognised as Indian food. Everything looked weird and tasted like desert. So much sugar had been added, including in the onion bhajis. The most shocking thing was the sag paneer......I wished I had taken a photo.....It was like a stringy pizza topping and so sweet. I've never seen anything like it! Terrible restaurant, terrible food.....You could get a better indian in the Co-op up the road and microwave at home.

Ordered the lamb passanda last night with pilau rice and a pashwari naan. It came to roughly £18. The lamb meat did not taste fresh and was very chewy. It was as if it was made a while ago and reheated into the dish. The passanda sauce was flavourless and watery, just no attention to detail to reduce and thicken it. The Peshawari naan and rice were ok. Overpriced, go to other places in Portland 2 stars because it was edible and filling but I did not enjoy it much and would have preferred to make my own. If you've eaten good South Asian food in London or even South Asia itself, you'll be extremely disappointed.

I wouldn't recommend going here because me and my two friends went there last night and our bill came to £82!!! And on top of that they felt sick afterwards so I had to phone them up and luckily they gave us 50% of our money back. Never going there again!

Food was superb, the old guy who brought the food out was very customer friendly but the young guy behind the service counter seemed very arrogant. I would definitely go again

Ordered takeaway through Just Eat. Would have preferred to use the other local Asian takeaway...but not available that evening. Ordered four meals . Arrived..30 minutes after predicted tiimes and phoned up. One meal was totally wrong...chicken nuggets instead of roast chicken One meal seemed to have incorrect sauce...korma not butter chicken. All the chicken dishes were strange. One had five small cubes of chicken, one appeared to have processed chicken in the curry. Only naan bread was good. The bhaji s fell apart. Very disappointed .Will not order food from here again..even if only option..

Disappointing experience overall. No request for feedback about the meal. Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi was very poor and amateur imo.

Not what we expected at all....nothing like the food should taste or look like?? The rogan josh looked like a tin of tomato soup with chopped onions on it and so did the pathia and the jalfrezi looked exactly the same apart from having a load of chillies chucked in it! Was edible bit not again for me

Arrived late, food was warm not hot

Awful! Ended up having to get a refund from just eat. Ordered a chicken bhuna and was sent a weird red/orange curry full of what looked like frozen chopped onion. Restaurant sent another which looked the same and was horrendously sweet. This place has gone downhill drastically. They need a new chef and new owners! Called to complain as the ‘curry sauce’ I ordered was so hot and just tasted like a pepper pot had been dumped in it and told by the man on the phone ‘it’s ok just leave a review on just eat’ so here we are. Will not be ordering from here again unless I hear things change!

The order was over 40 minutes late and had to ring to see where it was, food was cold and not good. Expensive and poor quality. Such a shame as we are locals. Will not be ordering again.

Usually order from the other Indian takeaway on Portland. This was very substandard. The lamb was rock hard (either reheated or overcooked), the peshwari naan was sour and the complimentary popadoms were stale.

On holiday in Portland ordered and collected a curry very expensive compared to A nearby takeaway but that was closed got it home items missing a tiny chicken tikka starter my Dhansak curry was so hot I thought it was a vindaloo onion bahji and no sign of garlic on the garlic naan so disappointing ☹️☹️☹️☹️🥵🥵

Food was absolutely disgraceful, borderline inedible. Chips have no potatoes in them, they are literally fried batter in the shapes of chips. Chicken biryani was made out of canned tomato soup and frozen vegetables warmed up in a microwave. Stay away.

I've had better curries, the vindaloo was just chicken in watery hot sauce, the poppadoms were stale. The rest was nice though. Not as good as it used to be here.

Im sure the food would be really nice if I hadn't have needed to stick it in the microwave when it turns up.

A real shame to give this rating as my husband and I have eaten here in the past and they've been great. Waited an hour and a quarter for our main dish, the waiter told us they were 2 members of staff down so would've possibly let that pass if that was all that was wrong... However, I'd ordered the chicken bhuna, when it turned up it became obvious that it tasted nothing like a bhuna, really mega hot with chillies (I've been eating curry since aged 8 so I am used to them) but this was ridiculous. It just didn't seem to have the flavouring or taste of a bhuna either, so hot with chilli that was all I could taste but really hungry by this time so ate a lot of it. The naan bread looked like it had spent too much time in the microwave, given that the waiting staff were doubling up in the kitchen I suspect there was no chef so I think a lot of the food coming out was seeing some microwave action. The price of the food unacceptably high, when you put prices up the food needs to be decent- £4.50 for a portion of rice is shocking, never paid that anywhere else. To top it off, my husband and I have been unwell today, very dodgy stomach for both of us. Bottom line - don't eat at this place!!!

First time here. I like hot curries but a 2 chilli rated curry was hotter than the 3 chilli rated one. They were both Naga currys and were nice. The waiter rushed us eating our poppadoms because he wanted to bring the mains out. He even took our side plates while we were still using them!

Der Reis war kalt,das Gemüse verkocht. Ein guter Geschmack. Ein schlechteres Preis/Leistungsverhältnis habe ich selten erlebt. Als der Koch sehr ungepflegt,dreckig mit fettigen Haaren durchs Restaurant gegangen ist hätten wir gehen sollen..auch der Tisch nebenan war kurz davor.

Zuviel Geld für schlechtes Essen. I insgesamt machte das Restaurant einen ungepflegten Eindruck. Das Essen war fast ungenießbar. Kalt, schlecht gewürzt, gekochtes Tiefkühlgemüse, Reis war trocken und schmeckte wie aufgewärmt. Ich habe selten schlechter gegessen. Einzig die Bedienung verdient Punkte.

A further update to my previous review. After eating my meal, I was violently unwell for 3 days. Including throwing up, passing out, a loose stomach, incoherent and very concerning as to how unwell I became. I would not recommend eating there. Something very very wrong is going on with that food.

Delicious vegetable balti, chicken tandoori balti and sundries. We ordered to collect later and service was friendly and efficient. Lots of places close early on Portland (chip shops at 8 on a Friday and Saturday!!!!!) This place knows how to run a business.

BALTI ISLAND💩💩💩 Well what can I say, ordered the set meal for two on their newest menu which states £24.00. Was told it is now £30.40, OK there is a war going on and things are more expensive but when received there was less food, also was no salad, a few bits of meat,just potatoes, Saag Bhagi was just wrong and also asked for vindaloo hot for the curries and got mild plus it was cold, also there is no 10% deducted if I collect so might as well get it delivered even if you live 10 foot away. Stay away and start cooking it yourself. 💩💩💩

Very disappointed with meal. price has gone up by £10 since i last ordered from there, which i would understand and forgive if food was good but it wasn't, the sauces were watered down and weak leaving pools of unmixed liquid on plate, bland meat, and bland side dishes, We ordered online and left a note for a change which in the past they have always done, this time they did not. i wont be going there again and i recommend others don't until they sort themselves out.

Awful experience, I took the Curry out the bag, the curry was semi open so asoon as I picked it up it spilled all over my hand burning my hand and legs currently on the phone to 111 due to the burns. not happy at all .

Usually always order madras but this time it was so hot we couldn’t eat it. The poppadoms were stale and the pot of mint sauce seems to have been through the washing machine as it’s same price but now in a pot half the size. Not ordering from here again, complete waste of money and I was very disappointed. Chef needs to taste the food before sending out because the heat was ridiculous

This is the worst of all bad Indian restaurants. We ordered biryani and ended up eating something that tasted like fried rice; we asked for tikka garlic curry but we were served jalfrezi. The waiter says they're the same and added some garlic to the curry (?!), but nonetheless the curry could've been named 'chilli and chilli only.' (and I have great tolerance for spicy food). We asked for raita to balance it, the waiter gave us a small scoop of yogurt, and they had the gall to charge for that yogurt. I would rather have gone hungry! Regrets.

Really enjoyed the chicken tikka sag it was the best I’ve had. Perfectly cooked chicken nicely spiced and the spinach looked fresh not the usual creamed stuff. The pilau rice was great, light delicate and separate grains of rice. The mattar paneer however was disappointing, there were no pieces of paneer. Basically it was a creamy coconut sauce with peas.

I think the salt pot fell in the food it was so salty couldn’t eat it.😩

Unfortunately my visit here wasn't that great as I've heard great things about this place.. So benefit of the doubt their could have been some unforseen circumstance that caused the visit to not be that great.. But it just appeared like they was potentially understaffed and people who was ordering takeaway seemed to have priority.. Was waiting for food for over two hours and left as was just defeated by the wait.. Maybe it was just a bad night as I had heard good things..

Someone had been heavy handed with chillis and both curries were too hot to eat. We’ve had the exact same curries before and they’ve been delicious with a kick. But these were both painful to eat. Not a pleasant experience at all and quite a waste of food.

Every time I order from them they are always 20 - 50 mins late and cold. When I phone to ask where my food is I always get an attitude as if it is my fault.

Possibly the worst curry I have ever had the displeasure of eating. In fact, it was so bad I only had one mouthful. I ordered a chicken pathia, which tasted nothing like it should. No fresh herbs and spices, just red hot heat. My husband said the same about his chicken madras. My son’s friend said his butter chicken tasted chalky and the chicken wasn’t nice and my son said his chicken tikka masala tasted awful. Really thin sauce and miserly amount of chicken in all too. We’d been looking forward to these and none of us were able to eat them. Shockingly expensive too.

I very rarely write a review, but this place is so bad I feel I need to forewarn people. I can only assume that the positive reviews are from extremely intoxicated customers or people who don’t know what a decent curry is. Firstly they were very expensive so you’d expect it to be decent quality - sadly we were wrong. Then there were no fresh herbs or spices (or vegetables, which were a definite requirement in 2 of them). It’s was just a very small smattering of chicken, floating around in a very thin sauce (in all 4 of our different dishes). 2 of them, which were supposed to be medium heat, were more like a phaal. All heat and no background flavours. If you’re visiting, do yourself a favour and give this place a miss.

Millions times better than last time, glad we gave them another go. Only down side only 6 small pieces of chicken in the curry.

Had a lovely experience here while on holiday, we had a delicious meal at decent prices, and the waitress was so friendly and gave great advice on where to visit in the local area.

Popped in with a couple of mates for a quick curry. Blimey it was hot! I'm not complaining because it was described as such on the menu card but my Sri Lankan curry was excellent and served to blow the cobwebs away (and nearly the top off my head). Decor is a bit spartan but we weren't these for the furnishings. Many thanks.

We were a large party booked in for a celebratory meal for our dads retirement. We booked for 7 but for some reason our food order being taken was delayed for nearly 2 hours. When the food arrived it was in dribs and drabs. Some meals were cold and incomplete. Fortunately the staff could see the mistakes and corrected the bill accordingly.

KINDLY AVOID. The restaurant never delivered and never picked our calls. We had to finally come to the restaurant in person after half an hour of the delivery time. We were on a holiday with children!! And we were casually told the food is still here. No apologies!!! Please look elsewhere.

Tasteless watery curry, the delivery driver looked like he's best suited sat in the Verne

This has got to be the worst Indian take away ever. 😡😡😡 2x Mixed Kebab and every piece of meat and Kebab was like old shoe leather. So overcooked it was inedible. Chucked in the bin. Onion salad was just onion, no herbs at all and the Mint sauce was YELLOW and tasted awful and no hint of mint at all. Keema Naan bread dry and cold, that went in the bin to join the 2 Mixed Kebabs. 2xAloo Gobi was smothered in some yellow goo and way too much white pepper Real Aloo Gobi should be just potatoes, cauliflower and tomato, cooked in Gee with fresh herbs, these went in the bin as well. Finally 2x Chicken Korma. Almond Sauce was passable, but yet again, the meat (chicken) rock hard and inedible. You guessed, it ended up in the bin. How anyone can cook meat so badly and charge for these meals is beyond me. Marks out if 10 MINUS 9 I allowed 1 point for free delivery to Tophill. Disgusting takeout AVOID AVOID AVOID.

Me and a mate went out for a few beers and decided to visit the balti island , a small but friendly place, with excellent staff .. The food was delicious and beers cold What’s not to like !

Popped in on a Wednesday night without booking, no problem for the friendly staff. Lamb dhansak and the mixed Balti were delicious. Very reasonably priced.

One of the most expensive Indian restaurants I have been to. Prices 50% more expensive than my favourite Indian restaurants in London which are exceptional. Because of excessively high prices I was expecting great things. Food was below average with lots of ingredients missing to cur corners and to increase their profit. Value for money Zero.

Ordered takeaway through just eat. Despite ordering 2 hours in advance food was half hour late (and almost cold) even though only live 1/2 mile from restaurant (would have collected but I'd had a drink). I used to be taxi operator on island and know all routes and one way systems so could not understand why I was last on 6 order delivery list!..... having said that and all credit to the restaurant my husband said the food was amazing and worth the wait(and microwave) so from a food perspective please enjoy This fabulous food... just don't get it delivered!

I ordered one curry and rice , both were just warm so had to be heated up! The curry itself had 4 small bits of chicken in, this was very disappointing and the garlic naan was mor of a plain naan. And lastly the popadom was the best tasting item however it was delivered crushed up in its packaging.. overall a disappointing order the only positive is the delivery was within the time given

The curries were DELICIOUS! Our only dislike was the mushroom rice, which had a strange taste to it almost like a washing up liquid taste. That was a shame, but I think it was probably due to whatever it had been cooked in still having washing up liquid on it and the taste transferred.

Lemon rice was bad due to lemon peel (skin) in rice! Couldn't eat it...been OK before...

Waited about an hour for a cold chicken korma soggy nan and clumpy rice Annoyed I paid 4 pound for such a poor delivery service they had to call me to to know where to go, do you not supply sat navs?

Ordered a meal for 2 of us. They took the money out of my account but were closed. Tried to call for a week and no response. When I finally got through they didn’t apologise, just offered me either 10% off my next order or a full refund in 2-3 days. I asked for a full refund but here I am over a week later and still no refund. Shocking customer service and run by crooks. If I could give them 0 stars I would. Absolutely disgusting attitude from owner. I will NEVER order food from them ever again. If I haven’t received my refund by Monday I’m contacting trading standards and the police.

Food was barely warm, and lacked flavour

We ordered a takeaway this evening, having read the reviews we looked forward to trying the food, but unfortunately it was disappointing, food arrived barely warm, and the curry's were not flavoursome at all, also not a lot of chicken in them. Such a shame
