Balti House in Brentwood

Very small portions. Cut the meat by half….possibly as the offer was 50% off when spend £50 but not worth the money. Lots of sauce and onions to fill the containers! Chicken very tough in korma dish…..not edible. Shashlik container was half empty. Usually 8 or 9 pieces of chicken but today only 4!!! Usually good food and good portions. Plenty of Indian restaurants in Brentwood so time for a change now. Shame as we have used Balti House in Brentwood for a long time.

So very disappointed with tonight’s takeaway. We’ve been using the Balti House for a very long time but the quality has really deteriorated. The amount of meat in the dishes is almost non existent. Tried to telephone to complain and they didn’t answer . Beware ! We won’t be using again

Updated review after weeks of orders turning up with things missing I'm calling it a day from ordering here anymore. Numerous times the breads or sauces are missing,last time a main meal was missed and after calling them they asked if they could send next week !! And this week again a bread missing and no poppadoms.sorry you have lost a customer and I will be taking my business elsewhere

They have an upstairs and downstairs dine in area the downstairs is accessible for wheelchair users which not many restaurants have, the atmosphere was lovely, food was delicious, loved the Indian music in the background. Will definitely go back again😀

Food is ok but every dish tastes the same, I have only eaten in the restaurant once, service was ok, helpful staff, but food let it down. Tend to order home delivery from here now, only because there isn't many other places to order Indian food from nearby. All of the restaurants in Brentwood , all the food made in the same way, one big pot of sauce used to make all dishes. This is one of the better Indian restaurants in Brentwood, I wouldn't say there are any great Indian restaurants in Brentwood, which is a shame, you have to go further afield into Ilford or London to get real authentic beautiful Indian food.

Dirty toilets and no soap or anything to dry hands on. Restaurant was dated but food cheap. Waiter was not friendly, Literally threw plates across table not even bothering to give me the right rice and had to swap food with group to get our dishes right. Had trouble understanding us when we asked for our order. Not a place to go for good atmosphere, OK if you just want a cheap curry and to bring your own booze.

One of the waiters was really handsome and he brought out my food whilst flirting a little 😉The food was amazing and the food was spot on (Lamb tikka masala in particular) it was honestly unbelievable and this place deserves more recognition.

I have been going to the Balti Brentwood for more years than I can remember, the food (in particular try the lamb chops) is absolutely super. It can get noisy, but that’s all part of the charm, great staff and an interesting menu. The best is at the end because as it’s a BYO the bill is always a pleasant surprise.

Rude to Customers & Scammers. Accepting orders in bad weather then telling us, the customer to cancel it meaning they get paid. Avoid them at all costs. EDITS: 100% Scammers. Phoned the place, they tried to say it was delivered until we told them we had a ring door bell and they then tried to say sorry. They stated they would issue a refund but after all this time, they still have not done it. I won't ever order from these guys again. They knew exactly what they were doing trying to game the system.

Our party of 8 for a Saturday night in December was booked in October. We turned up on the last night of the December big freeze 2022 looking forward to a nice night with our friends in a warm friendly atmosphere with good food. Sadly we had none of these. The restaurant is upstairs once you enter the door, we trooped up ,saw two tables laid out for 8, and were then told ours was downstairs on the level of the restaurant door, no heating except a wall fan heater in one corner and a low ceiling area with tables and chairs, it was freezing and although we spoke to the staff it was here or nowhere if we wanted to eat this night, finding anywhere else at this time was a non starter. A very small fan heater arrived, it stopped working and another one in a short while. We sat in our winter outside coats and accepted this was as good as it gets, right on. This was about 7 30, we reluctantly ordered food, and some popadoms arrived and then we waited and waited and waited, no communication as to when the food would arrive, remember we were the only ones seated in this lower room, and after enquiring at 8 30 as to where our food was, it started arriving in a jumble of side dishes and mains. We quickly realised that many of the dishes arrived cold or at best luke warm , we asked for these to be sent back and hot dishes to be served. They did partially , microwaved or reheated in a hot oven but still not at the temperature food should arrive at, nor were any hot plates to keep the food hot. Some of the dishes tasted good, some were dry or overcooked , some were cold having arrived Luke warm and lost heat in the cold room. Most of us kept our outside coats on all evening. I am sure that this restaurant on a non busy night can provide excellent hot dishes, the possibilities of this were apparent, but we did not have this experience. It was the most underwhelming meal I have had for many years, the parties upstairs seem to be enjoying themselves and as they walked past our table on the way to the toilets pointed out it was much warmer upstairs. I am only commenting on our experience on a single night, others will have had the opposite as many reviews have shown. There was, when we came to payment, a slight acceptance that the evening was not ideal for our party but it is only what we experienced and can comment on. There will be customers who will have an excellent view on eating here, and it will continue to delight regulars , but if you are thinking of eating on a busy night and have booked, ensure you are not in the lower area as we were.

The food in Balti house is always good, the naga chicken is a particular highlight, and the sag bhaji and garlic rice. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the prices are great value, especially with the restaurant being BYOB. The food is the best Indian food in of the Indian restaurants in Brentwood, the only negative is the decor of the restaurant which could do with updating! Otherwise would definitely recommend, much better than the other Indians in the area :)

This is by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced! They messed a large order up by not sending 4 of the dishes, when I rang them they said that they would not make a mistake like that and that I didn’t ask for them! Even though they repeated the order back to me with them dishes twice! The refused to admit they messed up and I was put through to 3 different people because each person didn’t know what to say! After calling me a liar they said they will only deliver the dishes if I pay for them all as I was not charged and that it’s my problem if the current food I have goes cold whilst waiting! After paying for the dishes on delivery I knew it seemed to much so I worked out the prices and turns out i was already charged! I immediately rang them and their response was no the prices are higher now, even though all menus say otherwise (paper menu & Online Menu) The manager Tee did not seem to care and didn’t even apologise! The staff were all too busy watching the football in the background to worry about the order! DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE, THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THEY HAVE MESSED THE ORDER UP, OVERCHARGED/ STOLEN MONEY , AFTER SPEAKING TO MY FRIENDS AND THERE EXPERIENCES IT SEEMS THEY ARE KNOWN TO DO THIS WILL NEVER ORDER AGAIN!

The rice was cold, the sag paneer was watery and tasted of nothing and the curries weren’t nice.

Use the Balti House regularly and normally it’s a decent curry, however bitterly disappointed with the latest offering. The poppadoms were stale. Had the worst onion bahji ever, suspect it wasn’t made fresh and looked to have freezer burn. Curry was very oily. Regret using them as such poor quality

It used to be my favourite Indian restaurant in Brentwood. The Peshawari naan was to die for. However, this is no longer the case. My last three visits have been consistently disappointing. The starter, chicken tikka, was undercooked. The naans were lukewarm. The food, usually speaking, was lukewarm and not as tasty as before. Maybe the chief has changed. Yet, there was very few customers so time to prepare properly food.

Used to always come in here for staff meals. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. Booked a week ahead and the table wasn't ready. Wasn't allowed to split the bill as doing it on one payment was "easier for them". We have always divided the bill. When I said that we wouldn't return as that is not fair on myself having to pay for everything and put me in the position of chasing my staff for money, the waiter couldn't have cared less and shrugged me off. He is not the normal chap we have. Didn't even bother to ask his manager. Shame because the food is quite good. The service used to be too. There are many other excellent local restaurants.

Basic menu, hot food and hot plates, staff helpfull, but need to change fryer oil. Good value for money.

Look, there are plenty of half decent Indian food outlets in and around Brentwood. Some are exceptional whilst others are dire, I’ve tried pretty much all of them. The Balti House is sublime, superb, outstanding and the food is great value for money and as tasty as any Indian meal you are ever likely to eat. Stunning food and a standalone outlet producing a high quality cuisine. I highly recommend this business.

Unfortunately didn't expect our group of 11 that was booked by one of our team. Bonus is that you can bring your own drinks. Eventually got seated, lot of flaffing around ordering our food, main course and rice on my order was ok but I had the worst cauliflower bhaji ever !!

On a quiet monday night. Only people in there.. the place was freezing.he wouldnt turn ceiling heaters up obviously because 2 customers werent worth it.. food took about an hour to arrive while we sat wearing puffa jackets and scarves.. finally decided on a "next 2 minutes" ultimatum and it came.. we got a chicken dish instead of the lamb that was ordered..I could make a curry in half that time.. was annoyed that I actually paid for this freezing shambles or that we waited so long... bye bye balti house

Really, really poor. Waiting nearly two hours for our food and when it arrived it was luke warm. Staff did offer to recook etc but having waited two hours our patience had been stretched a little too far. Avoid, avoid, avoid!

Nothing to fault apart from the incredible low ceilings downstairs of about 5ft 7inch in height. Everything food wise was spot on.

Extremely poor quality of food. The chicken and lamb is pre cooked, the masalla is the same in every curry except the daal. Very disappointing... They even had the cheek to add a service charge.

Went out with family today and we loved all the dishes. Even something as simple as coconut rice was very good. Owner and staff are lovely and we had lots of good conversations with the owner who truly cares about the quality of the food they put out. Went out of his way to make a cappuccino for the wife. Highly recommend eating here.

Me and my friends went to Baltihouse the other day it was spot on, the food was so delicious I actually took some takeaway so I can tell my family to taste it and tell them about this little restaurant. The staff were very helpful and friendly. If someone is looking for good food Balti House is the one for taste in brentwood. The very best and good thing is you can bring your own alcohol and price is so reasonable on the menu. I honestly tried Jehan and Raj but honestly the taste what I got here it’s nothing like that make sure you ask for TEE he will look after you very nice/polite manager.

We visited as a family with my son. The staff were incredibly friendly and the service was excellent considering how extremely busy it was during the Eat out to Help Out scheme. The food was fresh and yummy and there was nothing left behind, it was that delicious! We would definitely recommend to try this place out and will be paying further visits.

We visited The Balti House today as a family of four taking part in the ‘eat out to help out’ we chose this restaurant as we’ve been many times as a family and with friends and have always been impressed with the food and service, but tonight I was very disappointed.First of all we were seated downstairs where the tables are plastic and the walls could do with a fresh lick of paint, we waited over half an hour before our order was taken and then over an another hour before our food arrived, I ordered chicken tikka biryani but it had chunks of lamb in it as well, the onion bhaji was cold and the waiter was holding our naan bread on the dish with his thumb! The waiters were so rushed off their feet there was no point asking for a replacement as we would have waited another hour. They were very under staffed and the waiters were wearing face masks which were not covering their mouth and nose so there was no point wearing them in the first place. My husband went to the toilet and said there was no hand soap provided and no paper towels which concerned me. Overall we were in the restaurant for almost 3 hours to eat one course and to top it off when the bill came they had the cheek to put on a service charge!I’ve never complained about a restaurant before but after seeing the previous reviews where people have commended them for their Covid measures I had to say something. I’m sorry to say it will be a long time before I visit there again.

Cramped restaurant with good service and food is above average

Doesn't look that special from the outside but the food was fantastic. The South Indian Garlic Chilli Lamb was the best curry I've had in a very long time. The Lemon Rice and Coconut Rice was superb accompaniments. Friendly service, good value and BYO alcoholic drinks made it a really enjoyable and affordable night out. Highly recommended!

Brilliant service, reasonable price good thing is you can take your own alcohol. One of the best I have tasted so far in Brentwood. Restaurant is small but authentic traditional taste. Definitely recommend people who love indian

A very busy but average curry house. I went with my other half for a meal, but it was so loud we could hardly hear each other...a pub would have been quieter. The service was slow, but was told that was due to a staff member being stuck in traffic. The food was ok, but if you are really into succulent curry's, you'll find the food here a bit bland. My Chapatti was under cooked...which made my prawn Puri unenjoyable. It's nice that you can take your own alcohol, but the £2.00 charge for the chutney you get with your 70p popadom made me think that I'd rather go to an establishment with Cobra on tap.

Don’t let the simple surroundings of this hidden gem mislead you, I live in Brentwood & have been looking for an authentic Indian restaurant for years & accidentally stumbled upon the Balti House. The food is genuinely on another level, it’s just so well presented & the taste is something else, my friends & I can’t fault it. Friendly, polite & unassuming staff, nothing is too much trouble. And now for the best bit, 5 courses for less than £15, starter, main, side, rice & nan from any part of the menu with very few exclusions. Simply put, if you enjoy great food at reasonable prices cooked & served by genuinely nice people then get yourself down to the Balti House off Brentwood High Street, you’ll be glad you did.

2 great experience's here at the Balti house. Great weekday 5 course meal, great selection of curry dishes. Recommend the pakora for a starter and the north or south indian currys were both lovely. Also and added bonus, bring your own booze and no corkage fee. Pictures to follow on my next visit.

I recommend this restaurant to anyone for two reasons: 1. The service you get here is unlike any other place near Brentwood. 2. The food is great value for money and comes with great taste. Definitely will visit again.

Booked The Balti House for “Eat Out to Help Out” on Monday 17th August, we took our own wine and lager as usual. The restaurant was very busy for a Monday with a very mixed group of customers. The staff were attentive but not pushy or overbearing and at no stage were we rushed. The food was excellent, prawn butterfly starters, murgi masala and mixed shashlik for mains. No idea what the desserts are like as we were too full to contemplate another course. We will try and fit in another visit before the scheme ends.

Eating proper Indian where the food is not drowned in oil. They know what they're doing when cooking their food and it tastes absolutely amazing. Very friendly service with calm and relaxing atmosphere. Will come here again

Decided to visit to take advantage of the Governments Eat Out Scheme. I must say it was a good call. Tables laid out well for social distancing and hygiene issues were very good. Good choice on the menu and food and service were brilliant. It’s a bring your own alcohol restaurant but you need to buy soft drinks. The meal was reasonably priced and with the Government discount it was superb. Definitely will visit again even without the discount.

Went to the balti house as it was on the eat out to help out scheme. Was very impressed, food was nice but service was outstanding! The waiter was very friendly and thought of everything before we needed it! They have just taken over the restaurant and are planning a referb soon!
