Balthazar in City of London, Westminster

The food was simply dreadful. I’m not a fussy eater but this was very disappointing. The Terrine May as well have been dog food and the Turkey tasted most peculiar. This was in no way like any other French restaurant I have been to.

Visited for a pre-theatre dinner. The food was amazing and the staff were so friendly & professional. We were served quickly and didn't have to worry about rushing to get to the theatre in time as they appeared well practised in serving their prix-fixe menu efficiently. The house wine was nice & well priced & we will definitely eat here again. Recommend booking a table to avoid disappointment.

Wow! What a stunning restaurant with incredible staff and sensational food. Balthazar's is simply perfect! I celebrated my birthday here and Nacer, our waiter, went above and beyond to make sure my fiance's coeliac was well catered for. He is a credit to the restaurant and made our evening so enjoyable. We will be back!

We stopped by for an early dinner before heading to the theater. We didn’t have a booking but were seated immediately at about 3:30 pm on a Thursday. We ordered from their Nutcracker Pre Fixe (which I imagine will be seasonal). £27.50 for 2 course or £29.50 for 3. We opted for 2 courses choosing pumpkin soup and buffalo mozzarella for our starters and salmon and turkey for our mains. All of our food was delicious and incredibly filling. We split their featured dessert, the Nutcracker Sphere, and enjoyed it very much. Our drinks were delicious as well. Stephen, our server, was incredibly personable, very friendly, and took great care of us. The atmosphere is beautiful and makes one feel distinguished. We really enjoyed our experience here and would certainly recommend it to others

Visited for dinner after my partner’s graduation ceremony, and it was a fantastic experience. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the service was outstanding. Really lovely lunch with great service to accompany it! The staff were friendly, warm, professional, and very attentive. My friend and I enjoyed grilled lobster with garlic butter and fries! Really delicious! (Half wasn't enough! Should have gone for the whole lobster!😉) Will definitely pay another visit soon! Thank you to all the staff! A really lovely afternoon.

Highly recommend!! Extremely talented chefs ! The food is sublime. We had the duck terrine & prawns to start which kick started our meal on a high they were both extremely tasty. For mains I had the Cod & my mother had the liver. The fish was so fresh & soft & the liver was perfectly cooked. The accompaniment sides complimented the meats to a T. Such a beautiful setting & cosy ambiance. Our waiter was very attentive & had great spirits, he added even more value to our experience. Best meal of our short weekend trip away in central London by far!

Balthazar is perfect for a lazy Sunday brunch. Upscale room, great location, and a menu packed with greatest hits; comfort staples meet high-end Brasserie classics. Best of all is the service; the team excel at providing an unstuffy, relaxed atmosphere. Adam, our server again today, is one of the best in town. The whole thing was an absolute pleasure.

Tables were very small , we were 5 people and was not comfortable. Foods are good enough and service was good.

Lovely food. Good value set menu although felt rushed at time, could have had a 3 course meal in less than an hour if we hadn't asked them to slow down, which reduced the enjoyment slightly. Staff friendly. Good place for a pre theatre meal

I had an incredible meal at Balthazar in Covent Garden! The entrecôte steak with French fries was absolutely delicious – cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The food was amazing, and the classic French brasserie atmosphere really added to the experience. Definitely recommend making a reservation, as it’s a popular spot and well worth planning ahead for.

An incredible place, a real French brasserie

My partner and I enjoyed a lovely two course lunch at Balthazar recently. We had not booked but arrived before 12pm so we were able to get a really nice corner sofa seat. The staff were all friendly and attentive. We both enjoyed the delicious celeriac soup. My partner liked his salmon main course very much and l liked my sausage and couscous dish a lot too. We couldn't resist adding some tasty ice cream at the end! The glass of viognier wine was great as well. Balthazar has a wonderful atmosphere and we look forward to our next visit there.

I have order a cheeseburger but it’s come super dry, I ask if I can change for steak, they give me ribeye steak and the steak is ok, but they put on steak barbecue sauce which is awful and no sea salt, I leave you 5 star because you changed the dish which I don’t like it ❤️

I really enjoyed my meal here. The food was tasty, reasonably priced but also, rather uncommonly in London, the staff were so friendly and attentive.

Nice lunch of liver & a couple of glasses of red. All exactly what you want from a brasserie such as this. Pretty reasonable price given the location.

This restaurant pretty much ticks all the boxes A super room in art deco style.Staff that are trained to a superior level and food that is delicious. We had a Sunday brunch and whilst the billing is just a little on the pricey side it’s not outrageous by any measure and after all you are in Covent Garden.it is very much a case of what you get is what you pay for. Will return on my next trip to Covent Garden

Consistently good and great service. We were initially sat at a table for 3 by mistake and asked to move - however were offered complimentary drinks for the inconvenience which was a nice touch and much appreciated

Mediocre food & very over priced. The wine menu is contradictory (£33 for a half bottle carafe but £36 for a full bottle of the same wine on another menu. Service was diffident, even rude & we were refused receipts for our bill with a shrugged “well you didn’t ask for one”. Overall not good & expensive.

Nice reliable brasserie, food comes quickly and service is good. Room can be a bit cold/cavernous and toilets are terrible.

Very good option for pre theatre meal with friends The staff member who served us was not particularly friendly or welcoming. Just “did the job satisfactorily” We were very unhappy to have 13.5% service charges added to our bill considering this fact. Had he been more friendly or helpful we would have been ok with the service charge

We had a reservation but arrived 30 minutes early and were seated. Great service, drink and food!

Average at best - food was ok, ambiance was noisy and rushed; far too many tourists gulping down pre-theatre specials.

The good experience was slightly marred by the high noise due to hard sound reflecting surfaces meaning we could not hear each other across the table. A common problem in restaurants.

We ate at lunchtime and as usual, the place is pretty much full which creates a nice buzzy atmosphere. We sat down at a corner table which afforded us slightly more space than the other 2 seater tables, all of which are way too close together. Getting your water, wine and food all on the surface proves a triumph in minimalist creativity. Unfortunately, the size of the table is reflected in the portions of the food. I had Camembert (£10. 95) for starters (too oliy) and Fillet de boef for mains (£33.95), cooked as ordered by tiny-the size of both would not have been out of place on a childs menu. I know it's been tough on the hospitality industry but reducing the portions to kiddie size and charging sky high prices is just not on. On the plus side, my macarone side was great and my Wife liked the pican sausage and Semolina. Service was ok but stuck around the corner we found it difficult to get a waiters attention. 2 carafs of Rosè and 4 glasses of wine came to £232, inc service. It's difficult to justify and so I'll be dining elsewhere for the foreseeable.

Very good! We left the theater and thought nothing would be open, but luckily we stumbled upon this place. Delicious! The impeccable crème brûlée

I love this place. When it is half full, it looks like a typical french restaurant near a railway terminal some where in Paris. When it is full it looks like a railway terminal itself. Too noisy. But still, this place is very good.

It’s a good location but the inside was a bit tired and for the price I round have expected better service. The menu was good and steak delicious but our seafood starter was very chewy ! The waiters were often chatting whimsy I food sat waiting to be bought to the table. Not sure I would go again at the prices I’d rather the Delaunay

We have eaten at Balthazar in the past and have enjoyed it which is why I am giving 2 overall stars instead of 1. When we arrived this time, after reserving a table online well in advance, we were given a very small table for the size of our party. When we asked for something bigger, we were rudely told no. One of our party ordered the oysters and one of them was off and he was worried about getting ill. He did not but another of our party ordered the mussels and was sick from them all night long. The steak frittes were nothing to write home about. All was very plain this time and we paid the usual high end price for it. Very disappointed in Balthazar. I won’t be going back.

Nice spot for a an evening meal in London. Busy place so reserve in advance. Good selection of French mains, and steaks. Highly recommend the French onion soup. Lots of options in the wine list and cocktail list to choose from. Staff very attentive.

Love Bathazar but service was a bit off today. Had to wait a long while to order (in fact had to ask) and once finished main course had to ask to have table cleared. All a bit feast or famine with respect to service.

The seafood cocktail starter was inedible; under seasoned and chewy like gristle and rubber. Had to send it back.

The service is horrible - had to get up twice to ask for a server. We wanted dessert but didn’t want to wait 30+ minutes for it, same with ordering more drinks. NYC location is the standard and the London location missed by a mile. Not worth the $$.

Arrived 5 minutes early (as 10 minutes late you lose your table) was treated with disdain and told to ‘sit in the bench!’ When given a table for 3 it was poor with a pilar meaning I couldn’t see one of the people I dined with. Asked to be moved and they obliged well. Service was very slow and they were far from full. 45 mins u til drinks we ordered after 30 mins arrived. Food was average at best. The Sole goujons were completely overcooked. The bill was high with a discretionary amount for service of nearly £25. Not the staff servings fault so paid it. Hope they get it. Will not be returning.

Food was good, service awful, bathrooms smelly.

A pre-show meal with friends that was reasonably priced and swiftly ordered and served. The Prix Fixe options were good but when the fish main dish came. It was cooked to oblivion! The attentive waitress shortly came back and asked how the ‘fish’ was. On showing her the solid lump presented, she swiftly took it away and offered another dish on the menu. I had a decent alternative but not my first choice as by then there wasn’t time. The new dish was brought quickly. There was no argument about the quality of the original dish and the staff dealt with it efficiently and pleasantly.

Hard to fault it - my only criticism was I had to wait for my table for 15 mins but it was a minor observation

We arrived on time and we’re told very firmly That we only had 90 minutes for our meal and that the table would be required. We were ignored for about 10 minutes and didn’t even have a drink. Eventually we manage to attract a waiter who took our order for drink and food but the pre-meal gin and tonic came with the starter! The service was haphazard at Best. We sent back the olives which we had requested with the pre-meal drink but we still charged this on the bill. The wrong wine was put on the bill. There were no apologies. The food was excellent and that will take us back there but the service was appalling.

Ride staff at busy times. Used to go often for the food there. As they get busy they sent us to back of the bar. We aimed to eat quickly before theater time. Back of the bar is where staff majes cocktails so get ready to have your ears slammed every 10seconds. If you ask to be moved you get an arrigant no from the reception lady even if the waiter truly tried to help. We left straight away. Enjoying a great service at their neighbours Truttons

Great place for a drink and fairly pricey but reasonable food. Can't say the food was classic french, but certainly french inspired menu.

Fabulous food as always, service was lack luster I’m afraid this time and it pains me to feel that way. 3 different servers throughout with minimal interaction, 20 minutes to order the first drink and another 20 minutes of waiting for the table to be cleared at the end before desert/coffee. Wouldn’t normally mind, but now your paying hefty service charge I expect that service to be spot on. (Get out of jail card used, next time if the sameno service charge) 🤓

This a review about open table not Balthazar as we didn’t get to go there as open table booked the table for Sunday 6th and not Saturday 5th as I wanted. The restaurant was fully booked so we was unable to dine. Very disappointed.

So noisy!!!! it was lunchtime, but even with that the place was full, which is great, but could not barely talk across the table

The restaurant was very nice and well presented. We had the Lamb rump and chicken. They came out 5 mins after being ordered and it wasn’t hot and didn’t taste very good. Decor nice food not very good at all.

Lovely food and waiting staff excellent. Lovely decor. Unfortunately, we had two guys on one side scooping food from the plate to their mouths like pigs at a trough whilst playing a game on their phones. On the other side we had a table of four, all on their phones (not a problem in itself) but one was on a video call ! It felt like we could have been in McDonald’s. My only complaint about the restaurant itself was being ‘reminded’ what time we needed to leave the table before we had got past the welcome desk ! Seriously ? Can we please just enjoy a meal without feeling we need to watch the clock.

A throw back to a NYC classic, but does not compare in service or food quality.

A Memorable Visit to Balthazar! My visit to Balthazar with my 16-year-old daughter was truly an experience. Here are a few highlights that we particularly enjoyed: We were impressed by how quickly the food arrived. The staff were incredibly pleasant and welcoming. We thought the quality of the food was excellent. The staff’s white shirts and red vests added a touch of french elegance. The warm lighting and cozy atmosphere made the dining experience even more enjoyable.

The cocktails, food and wine were fantastic, but what makes this such a wonderful place is the ambiance and the extremely friendly, cheerful and yet still professional service.

Walked in without booking and from the reception to food, service and atmosphere, everything was on point. Best rib of beef I have had so far. Could do with having a few more rosé champagne on the wine list :)

Service and cooked food were on point. Fantastic. Only complaint was the seafood platter had skinny prawns I didn’t like the smell or flavour of and too many whelks/sea snails.
