Was here today to help celebrate a friend's surprise 80th birthday party. The decor is amazing, the food delicious and staff so very friendly and efficient. What is great, is that the standard is consistant so I have no hesitation in recommending the venue to anyone - whether it's a casual stop by or for a celebration, Ball's will cater for your specific needs.

Stopped off for lunch with the family. Cod & chips with curry sauce was magic! Portion sizes were big, and the kids portion wasn't much smaller!! Decor and atmosphere were spot on. Would recommend a visit.

Went for 1st time and sorry it will be my last! I travelled from Hexham as no decent establishments here either. I had flsh and chips and my daughter had the fish cake and chips and both were 2/5. So now I have to travel to fenhan fish bar for my closest decent fish and chips

Spot of lunch at Balls. Always had take aways when visiting Mickley. Visited restuarant, we were party of 5 so were in back room and it was decorated lovely, food was delicious 😋 and staff very friendly. Would highly recommend. 5 *. We will be back thank you

Friendly service, couldn’t have done more. Fish & chips best I’ve had in North East. Give it a try, family business with people who care. Not cheapest but well worth it for quality.

Got sausage and chips at 9.30pm, sausage must have been under heat lamps far too long as it was like rubber, even my dog wouldn’t eat it…

I have been going to Balls for many years. I travel past my local fish and chip restaurant to buy from balls. Not anymore! The quality of late has been inconsistent to say the least! The fish and chips at this place is more expensive than the local competition and in the past I have accepted this due to the quality of what they offered. However in the last two months I have had a mixture of good food and that which was totally inedible! The fish was grey and they’d ‘sandwiched’ two poor quality small fillets together and battered them and the chips were so undercooked they still had a sharp ‘bite’ to them and a starchy flavour! The whole meal went on the bin! I won’t be back as I can’t justify the cost of these and am not willing to pay for and play roulette with the quality on a visit by visit basis. I should have taken these back but I couldn’t be bothered and would have incurred further fuel costs to do so. I did contact them via email but sadly they have ignored my complaint. There are now better and more consistent food outlets than this place

Christmas time group meal food was fantastic......service could if been better but they coped we were a bit squashed around a number of table to accomodate.... great huigh street venue with parking its a fish an chip place with a great restaurant attched loved it

Paid a visit today for a baby shower , what can I say the place is a little gem , we had afternoon tea in a charming little room , the selection was all lovely and nothing was to much for the staff and the lady who owns it was really lovely and friendly I would 100% recommend paying the place a visit , Thankyou all

Really nice afternoon tea and plenty of choice. Three types of sandwiches, quiche and a sausage roll. Trifle, peach Melba and a cream scone with unlimited tea or coffee. Very friendly staff especially Anne who visited every table to check our meal was ok. This was a Xmas present but we will definitely return and would recommend to anyone for a visit.

Starter was terrible. Leaks tasteless. Main meal not worth the money at all. Service slow. After viewing numerous good reviews clearly this place doesn’t live up. Would of rather a fish and take away from the corner shop

Just had to write a review about the wonderful afternoon tea at Balls! My friend & I booked to take our Mothers for a Mothers Day Treat and what a wonderful treat it was! There was ample food, a nice variety of sandwiches, quiche, sausage roll, crisps, scones etc & a gorgeous peach melba & trifle! Plenty of tea, coffee etc which was unlimited and to top it off really fantastic, friendly & attentive staff who could not do enough for you! Both our Mothers thoroughly enjoyed it (as well as us) and all for a fantastic price!! Would just like to say thank you for making our Mothers very happy and will definitely be returning in the future!! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to go for afternoon tea as this was five star!!

Been a regular for a few years now - maybe once a month treat for family. Price for fish and chips £8.50 takeaway is overpriced. Past few occasions batter has been soggy. Lost a customer.

Non existent mushy batter on fish and on my spam fritter. Chips undercooked very limp. Would not go again. Also overpriced compared to a proper fish and chips shop.

Telephoned an order in to collect, advised a time to pick up 45minutes later. Arrived and order was just going into the fryer, so when I received my order I expected everything to be crispy and hot. Arrived in paper only not a box, Fish and chips squashed together, the grease from the chips was running out of the paper. Asked for well done fish as like batter to be extra crispy, soggy, uncooked and definitely not well done. Order was for 3 fish 2 chips Order received 3 soggy fish and 4 bags of greasy chips. Shop was clean, although organised chaos as delivery old man kept confusing the staff with shouting whats was order and what wasnt. Would I visit again NO Value for money NO Recommend NO I visit greenside chip shop and fish quay I would rather drive the extra miles at least I get what I ordered and I dont get soggy batter.

My wife and myself went to the restaurant for our teas, the food was spot on and the service was second to none, Anne, Steve and their staff could not make you more welcome.

After a day out exploring what seemed like the whole of the North East and finding so many places had closed or reduced opening times/days, we ended up on the way to Prudhoe. A quick look on Trip advisor, we found this takeaway/tea rooms/restaurant and decided to try the tea rooms as it was mid afternoon and we'd had no lunch. Hand sanitiser was available on entrance and we received a warm welcome from the owner who seated us by the window. The place is nipping clean inside and out and beautifully decorated. The menu was ample and varied as this is a licensed restaurant as well. The owner gave us details of 3 special dishes recently cooked. I decided to opt for steak and dumplings whilst my better half chose cod and chips. The cod was one of the largest i have ever seen with lovely crisp batter and not a speck of grease on the plate. My dish included large chunks of tender steak which melted in my mouth and gorgeous buttery mash and veg. Portions were definitely generous!! Unfortunately no room for dessert (maybe next time!). After our meal we chatted with the manager Garry who was very friendly and Anne asked if we wanted to join the locals for a game of bingo!! So very friendly! All in all it was a lovely meal which was extremely good value for money with excellent service. We will definitely be back as, although not particularly local, we have family in Blaydon.

Firstly, I visited Ball's restaurant last week and had fish and chips, my wife had mince and leak dumpling both totally amazing. We found staff were really helpfull and hosbitable. This restaurant serves some brilliant british food and is weĺl priced.

Lovely afternoon tea and such a bargain for £10!! Even had my favourite ham and peaspudding yum yum😊 and peach melbas were delicious. Staff so friendly and welcoming.

Myself and two friends visited Balls Resturant & Tea Rooms for afternoon tea and we weren't disappointed the food was fabulous and the service was second to none.

Our family which consisted of 8 adults and 2 ten year old children went out for a meal. The majority of us had a roast dinner, the meat was very tender and plentiful, they also had my favourite veg which is turnip. They have Gluten free batter for the fish which helps our sister in law. A couple of the Yorkshire puddings were quite well done, everything considered it was a small thing to complain about. Look forward to going again, possibly for another excellent afternoon tea

Myself and another 5 adults went for a meal 4th myself and 2 others had a small roast dinner, my husband had an ordinary portion. Theses were served with fresh carrots,cabbage and green beans. Two big serving bowls to help ourselves and plenty gravy. Our Granddaughter had the hunters chicken with a large portion of Chips. We had 2 teas a large coke, 2 glasses of water, and a lime and soda. Total bill £50.50. Which we thought was very reasonable. Service was excellent and very friendly. We all look forward to going again soon. I can also strongly recommend their afternoon tea.

There really isn’t any other place like Balls of Prudhoe, and what makes like this is not only the fantastic food but the absolutely fantastic owners Steve & Anne and their equally fab staff x

We had take away fish and chips twice and a piece of steak pie for the dog - yes really. The fish and chips were good in fact my husband are all of his which is most unusual as it's not a meal he really enjoys. The dogs steak pie was amazing and he scoffed it all down.

My wife traveled up to Prudhoe to see family before her birthday trip to New York .In conversation on the phone she mentioned she was meeting family at balls fish and chip restaurant that night .So thought a New York surprise cake would be a surprise desert , Googled info for phone number spoke to the most friendly GEORDIE lady called Ann . explained. great family run resturant lots of choices from coffee and sandwich to full 3 course dinner all very tasty and the interior is also a gift shop and the decor inside is beautiful

Since discovering this wonderful place a couple of years ago we have been frequent visitors. This is due to the fantastic food and wonderful hospitality which is always second to none. Our last visit was one week ago when our food was of the same, exceptionally high standard as ever. We all opted for fish - the crispiest, lightest batter ever.

Called in for evening meal. Had chicken stir fry, rice and chips. OMG it was so delicious. Our daughter had haddock and chips and the fish was beautiful. Anne's gift shop at the back looks fab, so many lovely things to buy. Our Eton mess has just arrived so please excuse us... If you have not been... You are missing out... Believe me. Absolutely fab.

Todas decoradas de salida el buffet era fantástico calientes y frías de comida casera. recomiendo encarecidamente este para cualquier ocasión gracias Anne y Steve y personal muy amable bienvenida por un tiempo.

Para algunos la cena llamado. Tenía con nuestro plato, Prosecco vino con nuestra comida principal. Oh wow. Casero aros de cebolla con mayonesa de ajo y chilli, divina. Seguido por dos de los especiales de Anne. . . . Pollo en salsa de hongos con verduras de temporada, las patatas. Y brócoli, bacon y Queso de pasta. Dios mío tan sabroso. No hay espacio para budín pero probaré la próxima vez. Jake nos atendió todo el tiempo y era precioso. Anne y Stevie son absolutamente maravillosa con todos sus clientes. Si no has estado. . . . Haga tiempo para probarlo. Una palabra. . . . Excepcional!

Entramos en el restaurante para el té y no estábamos decepcionados con la comida que elegimos. Me comí un plato de la parte del menú ligero bocado - Cigalas y pescado con mayonesa de ajo, bocados de pan crujiente y patatas fritas mientras mi marido tenía pescado y patatas fritas con guisantes blandos y Bread & butter.

Hay unos cuantos peces craqueo y tiendas chips en el Noreste y este es uno de ellos.

Fabuloso pescado y patatas fritas en todos los sentidos; el servicio es siempre excelente, y comidas de todo tipo son mejores que en ningún otro lugar en la zona. Sin Gluten pescado y patatas fritas, gratis perfecto para aquellos con enfermedades celíacos, son absolutamente fabulosos, imposible distinguir la diferencia entre g/f y normal sacudir! !

Super fish and chip shop offering a more extensive menu than usual. Hot meat sandwiches, salad bar and traditional puds so something for everyone. Garlic fish cakes are superb - my mum travels from Whickham ( by bus) to eat in the small cafe - next to the take away part.

We used to go here regularly when we lived in Prudhoe. Sadly we now live in Scotland so don't get here as often any more. Best fish n chips around but also superb homemade steak pie. Friendly staff and great prices.

We visited as a family of four ladies, one on their 90s, one almost eighty, along with me and my daughter who is on her twenties. We all opted for cod and chips and we all agreed that our meals were perfect. Fabulous fresh fish with the crispiest batter and wonderful hand cut chip shop chips. Completed with tea / bread and butter and service with a smile we had a lovely afternoon. If you haven't tried this place I strongly recommend that you do. Thanks to all at Ball's x

Being attached to a chip shop you'll be surprised by the range and quality of food on the menu. Service was a little slow but the quality and prices more than made up for that.If you do get chips with your meal, they are of course excellent. Well worth a visit.

I've eaten both in and had takeaway from Balls over the last 15 years. I have found the service in the restaurant to be very good but I now never go to get takeaway as I have never been impressed by the service here. This is a chippy for locals and regulars who appear to get preferential service. Personally, I'll stick with Dhillons.

Chips not as nice as Dhillons and portions are a bit mean, also prices are a little more than the fish bar i mentioned previously, the restaurant is small and clostraphobic, the guy is trying to copy Colmans in south shields but hasnt pulled it off sorry thumbs down for me m.

We came here today as a family as we'd been to the nearby Waterworld and was famished. I'd heard that they do gluten free fish and chips so went to check. This was certainly the case, I opted for cod and chips. It was absolutely delicious, really tasty batter on a really big piece of cod. The bairns thoroughly enjoyed their lunch too. Excellent find. We shall return again.

What an amazing place this is. I visited today with my great Aunt, Mam, husband and two children aged 3 and 1. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, and the service was excellent. The meals were delicious and a generous size for the price. I had the homemade broth and Sandwich, which I would highly recommend, and the Eton mess was heavenly. Will definitely be returning.

Having passed this place so many many times on the road between Newcastle and Hexham and although we usually go for a take-away on our trips, we decided to visit the restaurant.A decision we didn't regret!Along with all the other positives, I was served with the tastiest haddock I've had in many a year.

I called in today as part of a group of nine. First of all we were all taken with the decor which was extremely pretty. The tables were beautifully laid in fact the whole restaurant was as fresh as a daisy. The owner who served us couldn't have been more helpful and our orders arrived extremely quickly. I had Sole, Chips and Salad, The Sole was the nicest I have had in years and the salad wasn't the usual apology of lettuce and a slice of tomato, it was a proper salad and included grapes and strawberries. Chips were beautifully cooked and weren't greasy. Prices were more than reasonable. Rare to find a restaurant specialising in fish and chips so good. There were other menu choices but as we all had F and C I can't comment on them.

Got take away fish & chips. Chips weren't cooked and the fish was dry. Mushy peas were really watery. Partner got the steak pie and that was very dry too. Got a kids meal for my son and it was very greasy. Overall we weren't impressed.

My husband & I took our 10yr old grand-daughter for tea. She didn't fancy anything from the kids menu so they did a smaller chicken tikka for her. This was no bother at all. We had the cod & chip special which was spot on & good value. The rooms have just been redecorated & look really good, sort of vintage. As usual Ann was ever the delightful host !!

Grey fish, soggy thick batter all put in a plastic bag to steam and become even more soggy. £6.30 is extortionate for bad food. Never again

Anne, Steve Gary and the rest of the staff were fantastic. They did everything they could to help us raise money at the charity night. The fish and chips and the puddings were delicious. The service as usual was friendly and swift.The surroundings make it feel so homely.

We visited Ball's for the first time in February 2016 and I have to say me and my daughter were delighted with our new find? Excellent service from Garry and absolutely perfect fish and chips. There's even the chance to purchase some lovely shabby chic bits - all highly recommended and well definitely be back 10/10

Balls fish and chips are delicious,even better when eaten in their wonderfully decorated adjoining cafe. This is no ordinary cafe, it is full of rustic and glittery home ware and gifts, which can be purchased at reasonable prices. The menu changes regularly but there is always a good choice, ranging from salads, curries, chicken etc. Anne also serves an excellent carvery. We visit regularly and our Grandson loves going for nuggets chips and curry sauce! A warm welcome is guaranteed.

6 Seniors (wrinklies) had lunch to celebrate the 90th birthday of one of our group.Service was excellent and brisk. Food was everything we could wish for. Staff were pleasant and helpful.We laughed and joked and put the world to rights.A very pleasant experience.

It was a wedding dress search that brought us to Prudhoe and after, much to my surprise, finding THE dress we were advised to go to Balls for a meal. Another triumph! Fish and Chips cooked to perfection, mushy peas soft white bread all washed down with limitless pots of tea. A perfect finish to a successful morning.

We came here for lunch with our daughter and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.We had the traditional fish and chip dinner in pleasant and quirky surroundings and it was a nice change to have Balls Fish & Chips served direct onto a plate!Certainly worth a visit !

Fabulous place to take the family for a meal. The staff are exceptional, they cannot do enough for you. The food is tasty and varied. The Carvery is great value and tastes like home cooking should. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming.

Don't be fooled that this is just a chip shop , the food is varied and well prepared , very tasty , the staff are very very efficient and very friendly .well worth a visit

Balls of Prudhoe is something of an institution and has grown over the years, and they now have a separate restaurant / tea room which is popular with everyone of all ages.The service and food is second to none and they now have an alcohol licence so you can wash it all down with some fine beers or lagers, which is taking it to another level for those that enjoy good food with good drink.It is what it is and I would recommend it to anyone.

Have watched this place grow over the years & they never fail to provide the best Fish & Chips. They even keep up with dietary situations by offering Gluten Free Batter Fish & Chip cooked in a separate frier. Their expansion into restaurant service next door took them to anoither level yet the friendly & quality service & standard never wavered. A great place for a snack or an evening meal with friends & family...keep it up Balls...

Went here this week and found that the food was not very hot and the chips crispier than the batter. Not sure if would return. Staff and building were fine tho, just the end product let it down

Whenever we stay with my sister, we make sure we pay a visit to this chippy. The food is excellent and the menu so varied, it's difficult at times to choose what to have. I miss the NE fish and chips - they cannot be beaten and Balls is a classic example of this!! Love it!! Staff very friendly, too!!

We've visited Balls on several occasions & each time it has been nothing but perfect. There is plenty of choice on the menu & bespoke changes are created upon request. Every dish we've tried has been amazing, full of flavour & fantastic value for money. The interiors are cosy and filled with wonderful little shabby chic trinkets that can be purchased. The level of service really is the cherry on top of the cake- all that work there are friendly, professional and truly cannot do enough for you. A wonderful family business.

The restaurant was full so very busy but the service was great and they couldn't appologize more for the wait, but it didn't take as long as I thought it would. Very friendly staff. And the food was lovely and well presented.

We went to this Restaurant for a charity theme night, for Rod Stewart's Birthday. We had no idea this place existed. What a wonderful night we had. I had chicken, my wife had stake pie bottle of wine followed with a lovely cheesecake. The food was very good, the staff made us feel welcome right from the start. We definitely be going back in the future.

I visited this shop while visiting relatives I ordered a fish I then proceeded to my van for a nice fish lunch. I opened the batter to reveal a overcooked brown hard flesh, I marched back to the 'Award Winning shop' and had my say..... I didn't even ask for my money back... and I will never go back.

What a love takeaway this is.. Standard of food is second to none, quality of food first class and lovely friendly service! The jacket potatoes on the lunch menu are great value for money bursting with flavour and the homemade steak pie is out of this world!

This is a lovely little place attached to the family fish and chip shop. Not at all what you would expect. It is furnished with lovely tables and an array of interesting wall decorations and ornaments all for sale. The menu is varied and delicious. Just ask and any dietary requirements will be catered for if possible. We have booked this wonderful little place for several family and work gatherings. The owners are very helpful, cheerful and accommodating. Pop in for a coffee to find out for yourselves.
