Excellent Indian Restaurant.... had an impromptu lunch chicken pasanda, coconut rice, chicken tikka byriana.... it was delicious. Amazing service too

Usually go here for a takeaway if I'm in the area. Food provided very speedily after ordering, considering they were pretty busy on a Friday night. On my experience, they are pretty reliable and the food has been of consistently good quality, if a little oily.

Poor, Poor. Poor on every level. Food was mediocre at best and service was off hand (despite what the website says). Noisy with the absolute maximum number of people crammed in. Someone needs to take a long look at how the restaurant is being operated and the standard of food they are serving. This is not one we will be trying again.

Excellent take away. Tasty, mildly spiced food. Fresh . We had chicken tikka massala, lamb bhuna, aloo sag, plain nan and pilot rice.

When friends were over from France, we decided to treat them to a great curry experience. My wife and I had not eaten here for over a year. We were very pleased that both food and service were excellent. If you are in the area looking for exceptional Bangladeshi food, then you could not find anywhere better than Ballingdon Valley.

Wonderful meal, we had 4 different meals, they all were great. Attentive staff despite them being very busy. Pricing was great too, we will definitely be going back.

We arrived here by chance as we'd stayed in Sudbury previously and most of the pubs finish serving food early. On entering the premises, we were greeted by a happy smile. I explained that we didn't have a reservation and we were taken to a seat while the bookings were checked. I think the manager must have had a little bit of a sense of humour, as we were shown to a table, where he told us that due to the weather, (this was storm Babet), the restaurant had had 54 reservations cancelled, so there was plenty of room for us. We decided on what to order over a drink and waited with anticipation for our meal as we hadn't had an Indian meal from a restaurant for around six weeks and were looking forward to it. We ordered a vindaloo and a jalfreisi after our starters and we both agreed, it was one of the best curries we'd had in a long long time. We were informed by the manager that the previous Sunday, they had been awarded curry house of the year, which we had no idea about, but agreed, it came as no surprise. We would highly recommend the food here, it looks as though they pride themselves on their cleanliness as the tables are pristine, plates and cutlery spotless and decor contemporary. Staff were perfect hosts and we'll definitely be back to visit again in the future. Thank you very much for our meal.

Food is absolutely first class, I had the King Prawn Tawa (new on the menu, and new to me), absolutely delicious, moderately spicy, and full of flavour, I was also with family, who had Tilapia Fish Curry, quite hot, but again the different flavours were all there, and Uncle had lentil dish (the name escapes me, but excellent nevertheless). I'd also like to thank the staff for accommodating my Uncle, (who has a mobility issue), and for making our lunch a pleasant and enjoyable event.

Went to this lovely restaurant last night, been many times but we travel down and stay overnight just to go here! It’s the best restaurant and the food and staff are top notch.. I also get a takeaway the same time to bring back for my freezer at home. Thank you Ballingdon valley for top quality food and hard working staff!

Food very average but onion bhajis burnt to a frazzle. Mentioned this gently to the waiter who was not overly interested and I was surprised to see that they were not removed from the bill. The table was not cleaned when the main course was removed. We won’t be back.

Visited the restaurant after recommendation from place we are staying at . Nice restaurant lovely staff. Food was delicious and well presented. Nice clean restaurant including the toilets too. There is also a car park behind the restaurant.

No wonder it gets good reviews. Everything was top quality. Food, service, efficient friendly staff, cleanliness, big choice. Very happy with everything.

I had really enjoyed my take-away meal from Ballingdon last year. When the opportunity arose recently to visit for dinner, my expectations were high. Do not be put off by the buildings lack of kerb appeal. Once inside, you have a warm and welcoming restaurant, nicely furnished with well spaced tables. The staff were very friendly and attentive. As for the food, well it was exceptional. The menu contains all the standard favourites and some I have never come across before. All our dishes were packed with flavour and tasted freshly made. When we left, none of us had that bloated feeling, but we all agreed we had been very well fed. In fact, I took away a couple of containers where we did not eat all the food on the table. Now I am making plans to return imminently.

My partner and myself had the pleasure of eating an evening meal at this superb restaurant a few days ago, from the warm and friendly welcome to the polite good bye's the whole experience could not have been more pleasant, the establishment is decorated to a very high standard and scrupulously clean throughout. The comprehensive menu and extensive wine list were both reasonably priced. Our food was served without delay and could only be described as memorable, and the helpful, friendly staff deserved praise. We both enjoyed our evening and can't wait to enjoy the culinary delights again next time we are in town. Thank You. John and Polly.

We had a mid week takeay from Ballingdon Valley. The food was delicious and the staff were really helpful and accomodating. They even created a special salmon dish for me that was not on the menus, and catered to veggie needs which was much aprpeciated. Would highly reccomend, a Sudbury favourite!

Moved to the area a few months ago and have been on the hunt for a good curry house. Unfortunately this visit didn’t float my boat. As a connoisseur of a good spicy curry I was hoping this place would be our new local. My starter a chicken pakora was more like a chicken flavoured findus crispy pancake. The main course of a chicken breast wrapped over a spicy lamb had the ingredients to be an excellent dish, but was ruined by the greasiness of the whole dish. Was quite disappointed by the lack of spice. The staff were attentive and did their job brilliantly.

Excellent Food , lovely clean restaurant. We stayed in Sudbury for a weekend and we are glad we chose this restaurant for our evening meal. The food was excellent and the first time I’d tried a curry with banana. The toilets were very clean and well presented and the price was very reasonable for the quality of food. I will eat here again when in the area.

The title says it all. The staff are all friendly and very helpful and will tailor your dish to what you need. But, they can have the odd off day if the regular chef is away and the the food can then be a bit bland which we have experienced once. We enjoy it

I have tried a few of the Indian/Bangladeshi restaurants in the area over the last 15 months and Ballingdon Valley is the best. My take away was ordered at lunchtime for delivery at 6:30pm. It was delivered in time by a pleasant driver. All dishes were well cooked and flavoursome. The King Prawn dish greatly benefitted from have the prawns being cooked in the shells to enhance the end result. My only niggle is that I ordered Vindaloo and was delivered a Madras. Not sure why this happened as the person taking my order read it back and Vindaloo was confirmed. In addition, I did send them an email to confirm the full order, clearly stating vindaloo. The Madras was great if you like the heat of this dish, but I want that extra spice kick you get from a Vindaloo. I hope when I next order this problem will not happen again.

We ordered a takeaway with seven different dishes: two meat, four vegetables and a naan, so that we would get a good range of flavours. We have had many years' experience eating (and cooking) Indian food. The overall impression from Ballingdon Valley was of rather bland dishes, in which spicing and flavours hadn't really been developed. So it all felt rather two-dimensional - nothing grabbed you with a brilliant blend of spices. The chicken dhansak was OK, with plenty of medium hot lentil-based sauce, but nothing special. The chicken in the chicken passanda had been very heavily smoked in a clay oven, so the sauce (a surprisingly bright orange, with little hint of coconut suggesting it was more tikka massala than passanda) was all but obliterated by the smokiness. The vegetables were disappointingly unadventurous: chana massala was simply chick peas and onion, with next to no spicing. The brinjal bhaji was aubergine softened in plenty of oil, with some added onions - no exciting sauce or clever combination of spices. The sag paneer was simply a creamy sauce with spinach. The peshwari naan was short on peshwari filling. Best dish was the onion bhaji - nice and crisp. In short, this was a bit of a disappointment and - looking at nearby competition - not a patch, for instance, on Lavenham's excellent establishment.

Had a lovely meal from here on New Years Day - collected at 2.15pm. Food delicious - only criticism was that the naan bread and paratha were cold - had to reheat them in the oven.

To say I have been to many Indian restaurants would be an understatement.This visit to Sudbury was post lockdown and the first Indian meal I had in many months.In short the service was very good but the food was a different level. Our first dinner out after lockdown and it was a real treat. Fresh and full of flavour, the meal was faultless. Friendly and efficient service added to a great experience. We were worried that the new rules would detract from the experience of eating out but apart from hand cleaning at the door and the staff wearing masks, there was no change and we really enjoyed ourselves. I have just orded 105 pounds worth of food and we where very disappointed the sag panior had no cheese in it also the mixed grill only had chicken and the chicken korma tasted like there was a lot of sugar my children could not even eat it as it was two sweet i was promised poppadoms I would not recommend and am very unhappy this is not the first time I have orded and they have gone down hill so much I will not be ordering again. Very upset about how much it cost.

Always enjoyed the food here but service sometimes can be hit and miss. Probably the best Indian in Sudbury. Good value and worth a visit. Nice ambiance but don’t sit on second table by the rear door as first table generally used by customers collecting a takeaway. Round tables near front door recommended.

Beer was flat, food was bland, Luke warm and served on cold plates. Gents toilet was filthy! Urinal, toilet and sink all overflowing making the floor sopping wet with urine which was being walked back into restaurant! Although bill was discounted and issues acknowledged it did not compensate for a spoilt evening out. Won’t be back!

Two and a half hours for a two course meal is UNACCEPTABLE.We ordered our first course at 6.25 and it eventually arrived at 7.40. In this time we had finished our poppadoms and first drink but were unable to order more drinks because the staff were overwhelmed with other tables and the steady stream of take-aways which seemed to have taken priority over the restaurant. It was impossible to even make eye contact with the waiters.When we eventually left at 9.00 we had been in the restaurant just over THREE HOURS, having arrived earlier than we had wanted at the owner's request.Being busy is acceptable but not having enough staff (chefs?) to cope with the workload is not. The restaurant knew how many tables they would have and should have known how busy the take-away trade would be

During this time we have tried other Indian restaurants but have always come back to the Valley. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed.

Came here last night with my wife for a meal and was appsolutly discussed to see the that the dips for the popadoms we're getting cleared up from tables and then emptied back in to the jugs they pored them out of to be reused....working in the business if it wasn't being reused you wouldn't waste time separating them back into individual pots you would leave them for the kp to clean imagine how many people double dip as we did being a married couple... definitely will not be coming back and would not be recommending for this reason disgusting is an understatement.....

We have been using this Restaurent for 2 years, and have always been very very satisfied with food and service. Consistently excellent, and would have to travel far to find similar quality. Highly recommend this.

We had a diners card which was bought when it was offering Ballingdon Valley. We mentioned it upon booking, showed it when we ordered and again before requesting the bill. At no time did anybody say that they do not do it until the bill arrived and there was no discount. In the end the waiter took off 10 per cent.The popadoms and the nan bread were lovely and fresh but the chicken tikka birany didn’t taste like it should. It just tasted like smoked chicken.My stomach has been complaining with loud growls. We won’t be returning

People that a giving this place high marks need to get out and about more. The food has a lot of colouring and taste is either burnt or bland. The restaurant out date and expensive chairs are uncomfortable and plates are dirty.

We regularly eat at the Valley as their food has been consistently superb, whether in house or take-away - we occasionally try other local Indian restaurants but over the years have found that none compare, so we won't be doing that again.

A very good place to meet friends and have an informal atmosphere with great food and friendly staff. Enjoyed our visits here.

Visited for birthday meal just as good as ever , warning go hungry as the portions are huge ask for doggy bag as you will need it

We love Indian food and, having tried the local opposition, always go back to the Ballingdon Valley. The reason for this is quite simple - the food is just to die for - great looking, great aroma and great taste - what's not to like.

Myself and my family have been visiting here for many years and we continuously receive great quality food. It’s the best in the area by a mile. Although you might pay a bit extra it’s worth the cost. Good service and great atmosphere.

Food was OK but we were made to feel unwelcome. Head waiter (I assume head, he was the eldest and acted senior) was properly moody and rude. Shame.

We found the service and food poor to very average! Very disappointing as we had heard and read good reviews on this restaurant and its Indian cuisine. The Tandoori Chicken Tikka was poorly cooked and tasted terrible, not fresh and the Lamb Bona was very average. The table service was poor too. We were not asked how our food was! Will be voting with our feet and will not be returning - shame!

We normally visit the Indian restaurants in Long Melford. But we thought we would give this a try.

Nothing bad to say, the title says it all really, very pleased with the service, nice atmosphere, good food and reasonable value.

We were in the Sudbury area and decided to go for a curry. We normally go to the Valley Connection in Bury St Edmunds which is our favourite Indian restaurant.

The family likes an occasional Indian meal, and if time does not permit, will opt for a take-away. In our opinion the Ballingdon Valley is the best Indian restaurant in the area, and last night's food to go more than lived up to our high expectations.

Another great meal at Ballingdon Valley. The same crew is always there, and we love the food. Lamb tikka for starters, lamb madras and a bhuna for main, with lovely poppadums to start us off. Great job all round. Can't say enough about this place.

We went to Ballingdon Valley for a friend's birthday party and as I was driving decided I would drink lemonade. I was shocked that for a pint of lemonade poured straight out of a plastic bottle was £4.50 a go so my 4 pints of lemonade cost me £18 from what was essentially a £1 bottle of lemonade. The food was good but I couldn't believe that a pint of lemonade was the same as a pint of beer. Total rip off and when I questioned it the justification was poor. I'd suggest you'd be much better of eating at Melford Valley or Cafe Masala instead better quality of food and much more reasonably priced drinks

Have been here many times and yet again the curry was great, I would suggest that the staff were a little surly and that humour was missing. Perhaps they are trying to be too pompous because they know the food is great.

We decided on a whim to try this restaurant and was greeted at the door and seated within minutes despite the fact we hadn’t booked. Concisely the food was beyond awesome, the atmosphere great, the restaurant was vibrant, busy but not overly loud or uncomfortable. My only gripe....well, not really gripe, more comment, was that while they were obviously really busy, our wait was a little long at times and the starters a little cooler than I like but not unpleasantly so. Overall, the best Indian food I have enjoyed for some time, well worth a visit but book in advance or risk disappointment!!

meal out on a Saturday evening, the restaurant was very busy, all tables taken and a line of people waiting for tables. We had booked our table and judging by the number of people here, booking has to be the way to go. Despite the restaurant being very busy our order was taken in good time and our food delivered to us in a timely fashion. The food was to a high standard and we had the leftovers boxed and taken away with us. The cost of the meal was high, this was mainly due to the pricing of the alcohol which is disproportionately high, a bottle of reasonable red wine is in excess of £20, the same can be obtained for under half this price in local supermarkets, just blatant profiteering I'm afraid, shame really as it took the shine off the whole experience.

We ordered the food to take away and had completely vegetarian options. There was quite a good selection to choose from so we ordered mains and sides. Everything we tried was yummy and we ate it all! Will definitely be revisiting whenever we get that Indian craving!

We liked the idea of an Indian meal last Saturday. Booked a table for 7.30 ish. Not sure if we really needed to book but we very clearly did. Arrived at around 7.20 and we were shown straight to our table. The entire restaurant was full. Great ambience. The menu was extensive and we both chose something different from our usual choice. When our food arrived we were a little confused as to exactly what was what. We tried and tasted each dish and enjoyed everything without necessarily being too certain exactly what was what. We probably should have asked for clarification on each dish but it was fun guessing what we were eating. We finished our meals and would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

Food is wonderful, my husband always has the king prawn tawa and the prawns are definitely “king”. I myself are into chicken tikka biriani (for now) and because I like hot dishes I have chilli added to my curry sauce, mmmm wonderful

Start with a beer or two in " The Cyclist" pub nearby Sudbury's own Maulden's Ale, nearby; and then enjoy excellent Indian cuisine at the Ballingdon Valley [car park at rear], served by friendly staff.Personally, I like quite a hot curry, so ordered Vindaloo. Didn't quite hit the spot; so ordered a Phall. Insanely hot, but shared it with two other milder curries of friends:perfect!

Most of us have eaten vindaloo curry, and suffered from various forms of indigestion, as a result! However, at this restaurant, they use subtle blends of herbs and spices, rather than chillies with everything, and I have found that even their very hot dishes are better suited to me. Combine this with pleasing decor and table linen, allied to impeccably dressed waiters, and it all comes together in the form of an excellent dining experience. The owner is often there, but even when he is absent, his staff continue to emulate his pursuit of excellence.

Great food with so much choice and variety. Have never seen prawns as big as the ones in my dish and they were tasty too! Service great with waiters happy to explain dishes and offer recommendations.

This was our fourth visit, a special treat for my birthday. We arrived at six o'clock and it was already quite busy. However, the really tasty food, and loads of it, came out promptly. Although we chose different lamb dishes for our mains, they were so very different. This is not a curry house where you suspect that a generic sauce does for many dishes. All meat is of a very good quality and sauces are individual to each dish. By the time we finished eating an hour later the place was absolutely buzzing - but in a good way. This is not a 'cheap eats' place, but how could it be with the quality of the food and extremely good service? As I say, a place for a Special Treat. You must book or be disappointed!

Visited on a busy Saturday with 6 others. Our table wasnt quite ready so we ordered drinks. We were shown to our table after a short wait and we served poppadoms and pickles which were good. We ordered various dishes, my chicken dhansak and mushroom rice with onion bhajis was okay but not the tastiest I have had and some of the dishes that others had were unpleasant, particularly the chicken tikka balti which was tasted like burnt tomato soup. The special biriani didnt taste of anything and the vegetable curry looked like and tasted like mush. Of the 7 of us 3 people were not happy with their curries and we did mention this to the waitress but she didnt apologise or seem interested. The drinks bill came to £32 which we questioned as 4 of the drinks were diet coke! Overall we found the food to be expensive and nowhere near as nice as other Indian restaurants in Sudbury and we were not happy with the value or quality on offer. We were surprised that this place was so busy as we certainly will not be returning,

A busy Saturday night. Service was spot on. As the dips for the popadoms got low they were replaced ! Food came quick and was fantastic. No where else to go for a curry these days

Lovely meal - superb service. We booked last minute for a table of 11 - the food was great and the staff very welcoming.

A colleague recommended this place as was on a business trip. Me and my colleague had the set meal for 2. Really well cooked and nicely presented. Good variety with generous portions, staff very helpful and polite. Happily visit again if in area and highly recommend as not many places in Sudbury that offer halal food and they at a good quality and value for money too.

We went here many times throughout the summer and the food was always excellent. I don’t like too spicy food so it was really refreshing to find an Indian restaurant that didn’t cater for the very hot brigade. Very good and attentive staff as well.

Ate here recently with a group of friends on a Friday night. The restaurant was tightly packed and noisy but that is what you would expect for a popular Indian restaurant at peak times. There isn't much room between some tables meaning you will be siting very close to other diners when it is busy.

Six of us enjoyed an excellent Indian meal here one Saturday evening. The place was heaving and there was a little wait for the food but it was worth it. Staff friendly and obliging and calm despite being busy. Tables quite close together but we didn’t feel this was a problem. Great atmosphere and ideal for friends and families to enjoy good food.

We’ve eaten here several times and the staff and food have never disappointed.

I've been to all the highly rated Indian Restaurants in all the large local towns and Sudbury has the best 2, this one being the very best, its just a cut above all the others. Ive eaten in Chelmsford, Colchester, Ipswich, Hadleigh, Manningtree, Marks Tey. Great service too and very tasty food at a good price

This restaurant has a variety of Indian and Goan dishes all of which are cooked perfectly. The staff are polite and professional and the restaurant has a vibrant feel and is tastefully decorated. There's plenty of parking at the back .

Went with my daughter who is gluten free for a meal there , the food is wonderful and good portions , good menu to choose from and the staff are very attentive and polite. Will visit more often.

Varied menu with plenty of choice and lots of dishes we'd never heard of before. Sadly some of the dishes were unseasoned and a bit bland, but just needed some salt and some better spicing. And a more generous portion for the veg side! Waiters were entertaining and humorous, though clearly rushed off their feet as the restaurant was packed (if you're a couple you'll find yourself in 'couple's corridor' practically shoulder to shoulder with the table next to you!) and we weren't the only ones waiting a while for our food and drinks to come out. We'd perhaps come back on a less busy weeknight, to see if the food and service is ramped up a bit as the other reviews for this restaurant are generally good, and the reason why we booked in the first place. Won't write it off just yet!

Indian food is not my first choice but that said when we go which is about once a month I really enjoy the very varied menu, the food is always of excellent quality, the staff are really friendly and have vast knowledge of spices and ingredients and always have some helpful tips for my wife as she is an avid cook.

My wife and I, and another couple, had a meal here recently. We had a mix of curries, including vegetarian; all of which were delicious. The portions were not too filling, the food was fresh and very tasty. The service was prompt, friendly and efficient. Certainly one of the best Indian restaurants in the area, if not the best. Definitely recommend to others and will be going back again soon.

We visit this restaurant nearly every fortnight and have done for the last 4 years. I can categorically say that we have always had the most incredible food and service here, whether it be on a quiet or very busy evening, which somehow improves and astonishes us every time. We are always highly satisfied and amazed by the standard of food served at Ballingdon Valley. The staff are always very attentive and welcoming. The best and most consistent Indian food I have ever had, by far.

We were taken to this restaurant as a treat and from the moment you walk in you know its going to be good,clean and smart .The menu looked great but we settled for a fixed meal for 2 with starters,main course etc it was super nicely spiced without being hot without the best Indian for sometime shame its 65 miles away but we will visit again and I suppose 65 miles is too far for takeaway!!!!!And all at very reasonable prices too.Thanks to all concerned .

We stumbled across this whilst looking for another Indian restaurant in Sudbury. So glad we did as the meal, service and cleanliness of the restaurant took us back again two weeks later. Great place to eat.
