Place stopped serving food when we got there at 19.45 on the Sunday even though last orders from the site was saying 9pm

Amazing food and fantastic service from our server Hannah, who made sure our experience was smooth and comfortable! She gave us great advice on the menu and made sure we had everything we needed. Food came out almost immediately and Hannah made a fab suggestion of getting the fish and chips which were a 10/10 - best i’ve ever had! Great atmosphere, really nice place to come with family.

The food was very good and the service from Rhianna was brilliant!

My partner and I have been here at least 3 times and each time it’s never failed to impress. The food is always gorgeous, the parking is easy. The service is amazing, we were served by a waitress called Emily tonight and she was very welcoming and very professional. She dealt with our orders incredibly and promptly. We highly recommend

My wife and I went for my birthday dinner, Absolutely fabulous, staff atmosphere and food is first rate. Very reasonably priced for eating out. We both chose from the Seasonal menu, I have the Game Mixed Grill and my wife had the Duck pie. We will definitely be going back for more.

Amazing food had the Game mixed grill Rhianna was fantastic - we had an additional person she sorted it with no issues and looked after us throughout the meal Good value great service will definitely return when next in the area It was very busy and this did not affect our experience

Food was lovley but the pig in blankets was cold in middle when we sent gor fresh ones they was deep fried to heat up. Everything else was lovely though would recommend

Food was good. (Some veggies would be nice as well) My slight issue is how can a place that serves food, run out of garden peas and brown sauce? Can someone not just pop to a local shop and pick some up? There is a Co-Op only 3 minutes down the road by car.

Not too busy, not too quiet. Very friendly, helpful and beautiful staff, very attentive. Ordered rump steak for a good price, and cooked exactly how it was asked for, chips nice and crispy.

Excellent food, such a friendly team make you welcome - no wonder we keep returning.

My family and I had a lovely meal tonight and we throughly enjoyed our three course meal and the service was great and Sharon was a great waitress and her bubbly personality make the whole experience very pleasant. I thank you from our family and we will be returning.

I’ve been trying to find a way to email the ball and wicked to complain but there’s no email anywhere My partner and I decided to have an evening meal there and we both ended up becoming very ill with food poisoning

Lovely location and good service, but our Sunday lunch was average, though quite pricey. On the other hand, the beer was good.

Only stopped for a catch-up drink with friends early evening but was a nice comfortable place with a good selection of wines and beers. Left as it was filling up and seems very popular for food.

You get what you pay for. Good value for money with good service.

Called in for a birthday lunch, service and atmosphere excellent as usual but very dissapointed with standard and quality of the food. No where near the standard I expected. Fish and chips looked and tasted reheated in the deep fryer. Not good value for money.

Lovely food, yummy desserts, beautiful decor, dog friendly - and they were exceptionally nice to me when I felt faint and had to lie down.

Fully booked 12.30pm sign of a good Pub/Restaurant. We had not booked a table so we will return.

Upon arrival told no walk ins! They let us walk away offering no alternative. Waitress should have advised about booking, because we just went outside and booked online for 15 mins ahead. Unfortunately, we then asked for vegetarian roast only to be told that they had run out of or stopped serving roasts! Both the service issue and roasts availability needs to be more clearly shown on website.

I am glad to see some good reviews. Sunday lunch for 2 was not good at all and I went home and made a bacon sandwich instead! The roast potatoes were good. Parsnips were completely dry inside. The carrots were diced which is not what I would expect with a roast but okay. The meat, I could not eat at all. The staff were nice and exchanged for another couple of slices and provided a steak knife to get through it, unfortunately, I could not eat that either. The building is nice inside though and has a nice feel to it. Hopefully this was just a one off.

I was luckily the winner of a gift voucher from the winadinner.com competition and this is how my husband and I look for a pub lunch where to spend the gift voucher. We found out that the Ball & Wicket was one of the pubs in which we could use this voucher. Last Tuesday we went there and despite having printed what I thought was the e-gift voucher we didn't print out the code number we needed and ended up paying for the meal ourselves. I had a rump steak which was very nice and my husband had a bass fish which he enjoyed very much. The service was very good and I enjoyed drinking a G& T while the meal was being prepared. We can recommend this place to anyone reading this review.

My wife and I both had the chicken and bacon sandwich, what can I say, the bacon was strips of fat very little bacon, a few strips of chicken, my wife had a salad instead of chips, it wasn’t a proper salad a few green leaves and radishes, they forgot my bacon I told the waitress she brought out strip of bacon when I say bacon I mean I strip of fat, NEVER AGAIN

We walked here last Sunday for a couple of drinks in the sun. We sat in the outside area for over an hour, and in that time nobody came outside to properly clear away any of the tables or wipe them. There were napkins all over the floor, used coffee mugs on the tables, and to be honest, the place looked like a dump. I went in to ask if we could order some ice cream to eat outside, and I was met with complete contempt. The individual I asked was annoyed at me for not knowing that you can’t eat outside (even though there were pepper grinders/used plates all over the place?). Definitely won’t be coming back, which is a shame because it could be a very nice venue.

Lovely pub with friendly staff. Last time we came it was owned by a different company. The place has been spruced up. The food prices have gone up quite a bit but you can taste the difference it's far superior good size portions and very tasty. The beer garden is lovely with seating under canvas and a very large firepit. In all a lovely pub that also caters for families.

Gave me cold food and nothing happened about it also there is a dog which is a hazard for people allergic to dogs It didn't give a pet warning when I looked online.

I visited here with 3 friends for a birthday meal. I found the online booking system very easy to use. The service we had was very friendly and told us all we needed to know. The food arrived quickly and it was delicious. All of us had the chicken leek and cheese pie. Followed by a mini pud and hot drink. I think it was fairly priced. Quite a nice looking menu too. It's a shame it was training as the garden looks beautiful. Will definitely be returning for a sunny drink in the garden...who am I kidding it was July and pouring down but maybe one day!!!

On arrival we were shown to a table inside although we had booked and specifically asked for an outside table as we had our dog with us.We were told that food was not served outside and decided to leave.On our way out I asked why I wasn't told when I booked. Suddenly there was a change of mind and food could be served outside after all!! This was so very embarrassing. I personally do not think that dogs should be allowed inside in a busy restaurant where food is served especially in the cramped conditions We decided to stay and eat outside as it was too late to find d a dog friendly alternative. Not impressed.

Excelent service, food always amazing

Our first visit here & we were really impressed. We spoke to Owen about wheelchair suitability as one of our party uses one & he was absolutely fantastic. He did everything possible to make our experience easy & unhindered. Many other establishments could take a leaf from his book on how to accommodate guests with special requirements, a real credit to the restaurant. Charlie our server was also impeccable on his attention to detail & attentiveness. Nothing was too much trouble & it's lovely to have friendly, well mannered & happy staff. We enjoyed the Sunday lunch & the kitchen did an amazing job as everyone said how delicious the meals were. We would definitely return when we're in the area as it was fantastic from start to finish & the prices were very reasonable too. All in all it couldn't have been better, thank you all so much🙂

Very quiet Monday, had booked to go with colleagues. The venue is amazing, but our visit was overshadowed by the fact that there weren't many dishes available on the menu after selling out of most things over the weekend. Slight dampener on things, but what I did get was lovely.

Nice enough place. Food average. Bit dark and dingy in many areas. Staff all very nice and helpful. It does what it says on the tin. Lots of cricket stuff around but no cricket pitch or any link to a cricketing history anywhere nearby???

We went with my parents as it was mine and my mums birthday. The waitress was so lovely and helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. Thank you Sharon. The food was first class and it was a lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

We were a party of 5 adults, 4 children and a baby. A somewhat daunting table to look after. However Malachy did that supremely well. He was friendly and helpful. Food was preordered before which meant the children got their food promptly. All the meals were hot and tasty. A very enjoyable visit with excellent service. We will most definitely come again.

Brilliant experience, we cam on a Sunday after a christening and were lucky to be sat away from the main restaurant so the little ones didn't disturb other people. The food was great, everyone had roasts and no complaints. Puddings were fabulous! Only slightly let down by both mains and puddings for the kids coming out last (mins a good 5 minutes after the adults - which is a long time to convince a toddler to chill!) Otherwise fantastic and very satisfied Of note for those with small people, there is a grass area outside they can run in but it isn't huge.

This restaurant/pub is stunning the location is so peaceful staff are so friendly the food is amazing.

Starter was amazing, Unfortunately service was slow stood waiting to be seated while 4/5 workers stood around just looking over at us. And the horrid judgemental looks from the staff is disgusting was made to feel out of place and uncomfortable, didn't help I'm highly emotional 1 due to be pregnant 2 we come out to enjoy a family meal after having bad news so wanted a change of scenery So overall food was good atmosphere disappointing and uncomfortable

Kitchen was closed by 8.30 and got kicked out at 10.30 on a Friday

Hit and miss but if your not happy the customer service steps up to help you and they do their best to make you happy

We fancied a late lunch and were in the area so we decided on the ball and wicket again and once again we were not disappointed I shared the kids chicken strips with an extra side with my son and the food was fantastic another thank you to head chef crina for our food and Tabitha for delivering excellent service.

Visited with my Husband for lunch. Martin the duty manager was great, welcoming ,polite and jolly. We were served by Emily who offered more great service with a smile! The food was nice and presented well, good value for money! Many thanks.

Room for the wake was really small no labels on buffet table for table to say what things were. Young bloke behind the bar really friendly and gave a good service. What I did eat was OK.

Not good. Service slow. Fish and chips. Fish overcooked and tough. Fish not like Cod. Chips and peas hard, how can you ruin frozen peas! My broccoli was cold and totally uncooked, could not have seen any hot water. We will not return.

A big family gathering. A lovely evening. The pub was relatively quiet for Good Friday. I’ve only marked the food as a 4 as I felt the burger would have benefited from a small side salad, purely to enhance the look of the plate. It looked quite bland and as though no thought had gone into presentation. The taste was good but nothing special. I also gave a 4 as I asked for a lime and soda and despite staff telling me it was cloudy lime it definitely tasted of lemon. Not what I ordered or expected. After mentioning to the member of staff that it wasn’t what I ordered/expected there was no apology or offer to swap it. Ultimately I paid for a drink that wasn’t nice. Spicy chicken strips £6.79 a lot of money for 4 small pieces chicken and £15.79 for a crispy chicken burger that lacked presentation I thought was a bit over priced. Others at the table had the lamb shank shepherds pie for £23.99. Whilst I appreciate that lamb is expensive, potatoes aren’t and they were lacking in a decent amount of potato topping. We spent nearly £400 and came away slightly disappointed with the food. On a plus they are dog fry and the staff seemed to pay lots of attention to our 4 legged friends.

Went for Sunday lunch. Very busy and we had booked a table. Service was good and quick. Food was nice. Our party had turkey and pork. Pork had really good crackling on it. Turkey was moist. Veg was nicely cooked and not overdone. Potatoes were a bit soggy for roast potatoes hence the 4 * for food. They.cpild have been a bit crisper along witht the roast parsnips. The ice cream sunday was exceptionally large. All quite reasonably priced.

It’s worth 4 stars these days. Nice staff attentive chilled and pleasant. Really enjoyed a full sized roast too. You’re the only place left in the village who serve food. And it’s very good too. Well done. Happy days for the villagers 👌

Expensive for what it is. Weird vibe.

Arrived quite late without booking but were immediately shown to a table. Unfortunately this was next to a table with 2 families and many kids and was very noisy. We were offered an alternative table in the bar when my wife's discomfort was noticed, which we gratefully accepted. A lot quiet here, we could enjoy the food. My Sea Bass was delicious and my wife's Chicken duo was to her liking. My pint of Ice breaker pale ale went down well, my wife not drinking so all in all a very enjoyable lunch.

3 of us had a lovely meal. Really enjoyed it. Curteous and polite staff, hot and tasty food. Puddings were excellent too.

Food was all very good. My Cumberland sausages were disappointing though. All in all very pleased. Dog friendly as well and good wheelchair access.

Bar staff don't give a warm welcome, ordered a pint. Completely flat no head & not even full. For the disgusting price it should be a proper pint. Pointed it out to the barman 'nothing I can do mate, send an email in' is already paid so nothing I could do. Avoid this place at all costs.

Delicious food with lovely presentation, great service from lovely staffs and great ambience. Loved everything and was fully satisfied. Especially the Sunday roast. Finger licking good.

We went for traditional Sunday roast options, the best thing about it all was service and atmosphere. Food came a little bit disappointing especially meat cuts with extensive amount of fat or hard bits, rest was fine. Overall it was good experience.

I ordered a burger at £16.75 which was dry and over cooked and found out it was cooked from frozen it was the worst burger I have ever had

My wife and I needed a quick meal after a busy day in London and decided to call in at the Ball & Wicket. Once again the venue didn't disappoint. We kept it simple and both had steak and chips. Everything about the meal was excellent. The steaks were very good and cooked to perfection. We followed the main course with a simple sorbet - not much to go wrong with a sorbet, but it was a nice finish. Thank you chef Crina and the team, and a particularly big thank you to our waiter who looked after us well.

It says outside A warm welcome waiting for you. I don’t think so.Didn’t stay for food just had a drink and went as the lady behind the bar was offish unhelpful and abrupt. Wanted some information about the food Saturday 2nd March 24 at 2ish she told us we are busy! We do have a private function going on!!! definitely wouldn’t go there again or recommend. I was waiting for my car to be serviced and this pub is next door to my mechanics premises. I just had a cuppa but the staff were very pleasant.

We held my 50th Birthday here on sat 24th Feb Booked back in November last year, it was only on the night we were informed the manager was leaving at 11 so we would have to leave by this time and last orders would be at 10.30!! This was a Saturday night!! Why were we not informed of this on booking?? The manager was miserable, they don't take cash(this is as far as I'm aware still legal tendor) And my son was charged £11.50 per shot of tequila, he had bought 4, the mark up on 1 bottle of tequila at this price would mean a £400 per bottle. Our family had a 25th anniversary, a 21st birthday part and a 25th Birthday party this year none of which will be help at the ball.and wicket
