Uncanny, We bought on Saturday at the farmer's market in Edinburgh a kind of pizza bread for £4.85. It was so hard that it wasn't possible to eat, even with the knife it was very difficult to cut. How can you sell a crap like that? If you don't know how to make the bread and keep it fresh, change business please. Very disappointing.

Bought sourdough fougasse at 3:30pm today from the market stall just off Prince's Street. At 8pm when we came to eat it, it was rock hard and therefore inedible. A waste of £4.55 I have yet to cut into the 30% rye sourdough but at £9.50 I am rather hoping it fairs better at breakfast in the morning than the fougasse did tonight, otherwise I might feel that your company is selling stale products to tourists in the hope there won't be any come back. Trading Standards may take a similar view.

Unfortunately I think £10 for a loaf of bread is daylight robbery. Visiting friends in Edinburgh and decided to treat ourselves to some produce from the market - expected it to be somewhat expensive because of it being Edinburgh and a market near the castle. However, no loaf of bread should cost £10! I have previously worked in a sourdough bakery for many years down south and the most expensive loaf I had experienced was no more than £6. Sadly it was also slightly stale. Hopefully it was just a day off for this bakery and their other loafs are more reasonable.

Popped in as we were looking for a French styled bread for a charcuterie board. The lovely lady behind the counter was very friendly and knowledgeable, and was able to recommend some different styles of bread. We opted for a sourdough boule styled bread and my husband couldn't resist trying the blondie cake. Unfortunately the bread was hard and a little stale. It just didn't taste fresh and we didn't enjoy it which was a real shame! The blondie cake however was delicious and moist!

Utterly shocking and highly disappointing experience at Cafe Andante. I stopped by today on my way to work and purchased a croissant which I was surprised was charged at £2,40 however I thought I’m sure it’s worth every penny as it’s going to be warm and fresh and delicious. I took one small bite was horrified to discover it was stale - beyond stale. I asked the shop manager to exchange it or refund it to which he very rudely and publicly informed me that I’d taken a bite of it so no refund or exchange. I left the shop somewhat disappointed and slightly mortified. Nipped next door to Sainsbury’s where I paid £1 for a warm fresh and delicious croissant. I always try to shop local but I will not be back at this shop. The food is overpriced and frankly inedible, the manager was beyond rude. Very disappointed as I live locally. Side note as others have said the shop is full if flies. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Expected more from an actual bakery. I bought 2 almond croissants and a pan au chocolat. I was very much looking forward to the almond croissant but unfortunately it failed to measure up. It's not the first time I have had something from here. They do look delicious but lack in flavour and texture. I bought them in the morning so I would have expected it to be crisp on the outside and soft and full of flour in the inside, not the case. The same with the pain au chocolat. I've tried it twice now and won't be going back, with the prices paid I would have expected more. As for the service, a young person and very uncommunicative.

The tinest croissant I've ever seen. It was packed quickly so I only discovered what I had been given after leaving the market. I would have given 4 stars BUT not after today. I like shopping at your outlet in Morningside, however my experience this morning at your stall at Castle Terrace Market. While attempting to pay with my debit card on which the contactless mode has not operated since the first lockdown. The server rudely intimated that I should use contactless despite me telling her that it wasn't possible and wanted to use my pin. She then arrogantly declared that the internet wasn't working which I find improbable if the contactless was working. I offered to pay cash but was told that you don't accept cash, even though cash is legal tender, I find your staff especially the young and inexperienced ones lack simple relationship training. Fantastic artisan bread. I recommend their massive rye sourdough (covenanted) , you can ask for a quarter and they charge by weight, which is great in case you get a massive air bubble on your bread! Range of delicious breads and pastries. Very friendly and dedicated staff. I think it's all baked on site. Remember? This is what bakeries used to be like until they were competed away by the supermarkets. It's probably Ok for wheelchair access though a bit small. I would recommend phoning in advance and asking if they would come outside to hand you our order, which I am sure they would do. Have recently tried their challah (traditional Jewish braided white last, used for the sabbath, available Fridays only) which takes me back to the ones my grandparents had in Amsterdam. Oh and by the way, they now do home delivery (you can order online) which is free for orders of £12 or over!

I took a pastry with mixed vegetable in it, which by just looking at it looked really good, then I got a slice of pizza with mushrooms and peppers on it. I only then realized that all they make is vegetarian stuff. I was really disappointed by that! I paid by contactless, and while I was distracted by the lady's beauty she didn't say how much it was and I just paid. I then checked my bank account and I was charged almost 9 pounds for just 2 veggie things that I could have made at home for 3 pounds. They didn't even taste good, the vegetables were almost raw!!

We shop here for all our bread. Yes, it's more expensive than mass-produced bread and cakes but in the same way that bespoke is more expensive than off-the-peg: price is not the same as value. We ensure that never a delicious crumb is wasted. Get there early (they open at 7.30am) and you can buy from the previous day's remaining stock at half-price. This is a good way of trying some of their more exotic recipes. The quality is so good that a day really makes little difference to the bread, and the sourdough and Covenanter loaves keep particularly well - if you can resist them. Our favourite is the huge Covenanter (can be purchased as half loaves), which we quarter and keep in the freezer to get us through a week or so. Highly recommended.

Clean, large room, friendly staff. Only thing to be aware of is the stairs, if you are fit and able to climb 3 flights to your room, then I definitely recommend.

Showed up @ 1245 for Sunday roast & they were shut (sign says they open at 12). Went some where else instead
