Baekdu in Stockport

Cosy restaurant with a very traditional classic Korean feel, lots of atmosphere and appeal with real charcoal BBQ and traditional dishes. Do be aware it's not exactly cheap fare here, it would be best to go in a slightly larger group if possible to be able to try a bit more different things without breaking the bank. And definitely be able eat a little spice heat like kimchi and korean red pepper to be able to try all the meats The taste of food was great but servings could be a little bigger like lettuce and indeed the meat portion sizes varied a lot too . Staff were great and friendly and helpful.

Don't knock the sweet potato mochi! It's soo good 😋 great experience and attention to cooking the BBQ right for you, my partner is a chef, tried to meddle/help them explain he's a chef and I couldn't stop laughing when he got told off and his hand mildly slapped away the very first time we came. ❤️ I'm glad they were affirmative enough to help him switch off and relax

This is my third time at a Baekdu and the quality of the food has never been diminished. I always visit here when I go up to Manchester and it simply is my favourite Korean BBQ restaurant, thank you to the lady owner and the team for always looking after us.

Superb BBQ, great pan fried dumplings and friendly service. My family are regulars here, and the food never disappoints. On our latest visit, we were the only non-East Asian customers, which indicates the quality of food. The decor is rather tired, but that’s the only negative about this great little gem in Stockport.

This place is definitely a hidden gem. The food was out of this world and I have to say was probably the best restaurant food I’ve tasted in a very long time. I would give it 5 starts if it wasn’t for the price. The prices for food are slightly overpriced. The drinks are way too expensive. But the quality of the food is by far the restaurants selling point. Would definitely go again. Just maybe take my own drinks.

When we ordered our food and we were then told that we MUST additionally order two items of barbeque as part of our meal. When we told our server that we did not wish to have the recommended barbeque items but instead we wanted a range of other hot items from their menu (equivalent total of £60+ pounds plus drinks), they became quite rude and insisted that this was their "rule" for all customers. There was no information on this on the menu. The signage in the restaurant implies that BBQ requires a minimum order of two dishes, but does not make clear that customers must order BBQ on every visit. I have never been to a restaurant where I was told I must order food a certain way, not been so insulted by the server. We paid for our drinks and left.

Ridiculously overpriced. Just me, my wife and our two kids and we received a bill of £168. £9.80 for a glass of iced tea? Just insane. More so, the food wasn’t even that good, ambience was abysmal, boring decor and all round meh. I just don’t understand how a small local uninspired restaurant can charge Michelin-star prices. They’re more expensive than Hawksmoor and Miller & Carter. Just ridiculous. Definitely won’t return.

Gorgeous authentic Korean food! The thin sliced beef on the BBQ is amazing 😍 the staff cooks the food for you here. Atmosphere is nice and relaxed. You must book in advance. My only complaint is that it was absolutely freezing in there!

Very authentic Korean foods in town. That used to be in City Centre of Manchester, used to be cheaper price when you do not need to order two set of bbq meats. Now you will need to order two meats so the prices very high. Also if the staff can have little bit more of smiles would be better. But the foods still amazing. Highly recommend if you looking for real Korean food.

Absolutely love Baekdu! I can't come as often I'd like as it's a little bit on the pricier side but when I am wanting to celebrate then I'll always think of Baekdu for those occasions. My favourite dishes are the mackerel, pickled wild garlic and the seafood pancake. Everything is delicious though and is such a gem in Stockport. Used to visit when they were in the city centre many years ago and it's nice to support a business that's still serving tasty Korean food!

PRICEY experience with rationed portions. Firstly, we had to wait about half an hour after sitting down to have our food order taken, as the “manager” lady was late and only she’s allowed to take food orders which we found very strange. The food was tasty but nothing special and way overpriced. We don’t mind paying premium price for great food, but £4.5 for 5 leaves of lettuce is not justifiable. As someone else said, you need to spend at least £60 per head (food only no drinks) and to leave feeling fed. We spent £40 per head and ended up going to Reggae Spot for extra food that we enjoyed much more (at a fraction of the price). Nice experience but we won’t be back.

The food was fantastic, and had a decent selection of soju. Not our first bbq, but we asked for some recommended dishes and went ahead with those. The menu was a little limited for bbq options, but the quality was superb, and the recommendations outside of bbq options were superb. We weren't asked if we needed help, but we were helped regardless (might be a newcomer thing), and the staff were very attentive, friendly, and helpful. Will definitely be back!

The food here was delicious. It was one of the first Korean BBQ places where I didn't get to cook my own food. Waitresses did it for me instead, which was nice... Except for that fact that they stood over me and blocked my food, so I wasn't able to eat my food until she moved. So my food was cool by the time I could eat it. Addictionally I didn't appreciate that she was mixing the raw chicken with the cooked beef and pork and I had to ask her to move the raw chicken and to recook the pork. Would have been nice if the waitresses were more welcoming and smiled too.

Excellent quality food. Lovely service. Fun night out. They stick hot coals in the middle of the table then BBQ the meat for you right there. Good prices. Will definitely go back as I really enjoyed it. They don't fill you up on bread like other restaurants do. I found that you do need to order a few dishes to have a full meal but that way you get to try a bunch of different things. It does get a bit hot in there generally but they have extractors above each coal pit to extract the smoke, so you don't come away smelling like a BBQ.

Excellent! We've been to a few Korean restaurants in the Manchester area and this is by far our favourite! Great food, extremely friendly and helpful staff and lovely venue and atmosphere. We will most certainly be back!

Had heard good things about Baekdu so I decided to try it for myself while I was in Stockport. We didn't book a table but we arrived as they opened and it wasn't very busy so getting a table for 2 was easy. We were surprised to see that you could only dine in if you ordered BBQ which we were going to anyway, but seemed a shame that they have that limitation. We would have liked to try other dishes on the menu but because you have to get enough BBQ for 2 people we thought that would be too much food. The BBQ itself was delicious, we ordered a mix of beef, chicken and pork as well as the mixed salad and seafood pancake. It's also the first KBBQ restaurant I've been to where the servers will cook everything for you, though you can tell them you'd like to do it yourself. Would probably come back but with a larger group so we can try more dishes!

1st timers. Ordered starters ( they weren't cheap) they came after the main. I realise that they had to cook at the table but, they're starters for a reason. My opinion, overpriced for what you get. Don't do wine by the glass and didn't have the bottle we wanted to order.

It took more than two hours to take the food order. Lady forced to order BBQ. That's not what we want to eat. It took another hour for food to come to the table. This tally disappointed ☹️. Do not recommend at all

Really unique experience where they bring the meat to you and cook at the table. The beef was by far the best meat option and the noodles on the side were incredible! Service was really friendly but perhaps a little rushed - tho we were there on a Friday night so that’s probably why.

Overall the food was nice but the problem I have is the quantity for the table bbq and lettuce side especially for the price. I’m sorry but 4 lettuce leaves for 4.50 ??? The quantity of beef you get is barely a handful and chicken no more than a chicken breast if that . Needless to say even though we shared rice we left feeling hungry and disappointed. There was no atmosphere in there the person who took our order seemed a bit perturbed that was all we ordered..the cost was 133 for 4 ??? The server was a little miserable and service awkward. Shame really it was my boy’s birthday and was supposed to be special. Drinks nearly 5.00 for a small beer ??? My sons had the sweet and spicy chicken which I’m sorry I didn’t order as this was more plentiful and they enjoyed. When I asked could I order as I was still hungry it would take 20-50 mins. Also me and my partner were served first snd my sons had to wait another 15-20 mins for their food to arrive so want really a family meal as such..not sure I’d return

I love this place, both for the food and the staff, who are really lovely. From my perspective the price is high, but the quality is very high, so it seems fair. This feels like a place to go for a treat, or when the company is paying. All of the bbq dishes are delicious. I’d highly recommend the kimchi pancake as a side order

The ‘theatre’ of the table bbq is brilliant. The food was also very good, full of flavour and really tasty. Price is expensive for the portion size though which is why I won’t return.

Arrived with friends for a 8pm booking on Friday 25/11. Arrived early and was asked to wait. At 8pm we asked if we could be seated and was informed that the table was ready but there was no seats for the table as some other guest had increased their numbers and so we were asked to wait for another 30mins after waiting 15. We walked out! It is a real shame that a restaurant does not have a back up plan if all their seats are taken. Will not be returning!

Went here with my boyfriend for a birthday meal and were both very underwhelmed. Our bill came to £80 - one beer, 3xmeat, 1 salad, chicken wings. The first bit of meat ‘brisket’ looked like a pack of frozen ham all stuck together and the waitress tried to pick it apart as it warmed from the bbq heat. A waste of 12.50. Beef ribs were nice but for £25 you did not get much at all. Rip off. Pork was average at best, lacked any flavour as did the dipping sauces , which just taste like sesame seed oil and a watered down soy sauce. Very slow service too. At payment wanted to know how much tip we were going to pay in an expectant manor. I really wouldn’t bother coming here

The place is nice when you walk in, but doesn't blow you away. Minimum price for wine is ~£40, bottle option not by glass. We loved it, though. The food was varied and amazing, everything we tried was wow. The staff were very pleasant and their suggestions were great. My tips: * Don't over order. We did, and, delicious as it was, struggled to finish. Their portions are generous! * Try the raw beef & pears, that was my favourite. * This isn't a place to drink if you are not rich. We will return, best Korean BBQ ever!

Personally I found the tabletop bbq by staff a bit of a gimmick and would have preferred either to bbq ourselves or to have food brought to table already bbq’d. However, bbq’d meat was delicious, as was seafood pancake, deep fried chicken and rice bowl (not so much rice, as spiced veg, plus some rice). Bit pricey for what it was. Enjoyed it but would not go again.

My first time in the restraint though some of my party had been before and recommended the food. The food is very tasty, if a tad overpriced for the portion size. And yes, as already pointed out, there is little explanation from the staff as to what order your dishes will arrive in. We found our starter dishes arriving well after the bbq main was served. But the biggest disappointment for me were the unfriendly staff - I like hot water with my evening meal - doesn’t matter where I eat, that’s what I order. I was told that wasn’t an option. Tea was available, but water wasn’t! I persisted and in the end I got my drink, but really I shouldn’t have to argue the point over a cup of water.

Booked a table for a Saturday evening, 6pm. Whilst cooking our food at the table, we’re told at 6.30 that they need our table in 10 mins. For a dining experience, we expected longer than 45 mins. The quality of the food was good, novelty factor high. Only one lager on sale, Korean brand which was average taste, and over £5 a bottle. Including two main courses and two sides, and one beer each, a meal for two came in at over £70. Bear in mind we were ushered out after 45 mins so they could reset the table, very disappointing. We won’t be back!

First time trying Korean BBQ experience and we loved it - the meat is delicious, the sides we chose were also brilliant, and our food arrived perfectly spaced out. Staff were so helpful with any questions and we weren't rushed at all despite it being a busy Friday night. We had a lovely time and can't wait to go back!

This is not the best place if you are looking for authentic korean BBQ experience. They charge you for the sides that should come with the BBQ, even in Korea you won't find anywhere that will charge you separately when you are ordering a set. Then they wouldn't let us order a portion of meat just for 2 people even though we were going to mix it up and just wanted to share. The service was okay but had some communication barrier too and one of the young waitress didn't seem to know what she was doing and gave us 'I'll need to check with the manager for you' every time we asked simple questions. Overall I think it is over priced for what it is and the flavours of the marinades was very average and nothing special.

Overall the meal OK an it was enjoyed by all that attend. It diffrent going out for a meal and the meal being cooked at the table. I have two complaints. The restaurant was freezing!!!. Drinks were expensive and very very limited choices of wine....

Everything about this place is fantastic. The menu selections, food itself, drinks choice are all carefully curated, and served with exquisite attention to detail and customer service. Welcoming, polite, and informative.

Fabulous place with lovely, attentive staff. We've been twice now and each was a joy with top notch food, very varied menu and hopefully a convincing representation of Korean cuisine. For people like me who don't like Kimchee there's plenty to choose from too. Honestly a revelation.

Superb Korean restaurant in the heart of Stockport x

The beef bbq (bulgogi) is full of flavour, the bbq is a wonderful set piece and the rice cake perfect. Kimchi pancakes are lovely and the bibimbap is great. Impressive soju collection. Staff are friendly. It's as much an experience as it is a meal with the bbq in the middle of the table. The cooking is normally done for you and sides have to be ordered as extra dishes. It's a really good Korean BBQ and is just as good, if not better, than when I last came 2 years ago. Worth a trip and reserve in advance.

I frequent this unique place every couple of days as I enjoy the good air that is outline this restaurant. The crew is exceptionally attentive and professional. The service is remarkablywonderfully efficient. Most important, the food they cook is outstanding. I have been there many times and I was always joyful. The cost is reasobable. I highly recommend this place to all my friends.

Best Korean barbecue in Manchester.

When ordering the lady was unhappy that my friend and I had opted for meals from the menu rather than the BBQ... after a long wait my starter turned up which was nice.... then my main... my friend hadn't had her starter yet!... I attempted...

Visited with my gf and another couple, and all of us lived in Korea for 3-4 years. Baekdu is easily the most authentic KBBQ place in the north (and i've been to a few) and is an absolute hidden gem. I would recommend this place to anyone.

One of the best restaurants I have ever visited. Delicious, good quality food packed with flavour. Service was impeccable, staff were helpful, friendly and unimposing. Depending on what you get it can be expensive but completely worth it. I will be coming back here many times over

Another 5 stars rating review. I travelled from Manchester City Centre and it took me 30 minutes to drive here. It is really worth it. There is a public car park infront of the shop and which I attached a photo of the parking fee. The quality of the food is really good. I've been to four different korean resturants in Manchester City center and I can say Baekdu is the best. For example, the meat is thicker and juicer. Also the fact it uses coal, it gives the tastes even more fiesty and wild. The waiter helped me with barbecue such as flipping the meat so it doesn't get burn and also cut it in edible pieces. Other places don't do this and so it was really kind of them. This suggests good training. I'd love to go here again. This is now my number one korean resturant in the North West.

First time visiting, we had an excellent meal and will definitely return!! The meat we chose was all fabulous and carefully cooked in front of us and the salad was delicious.

My OH specifically wanted a Korean BBQ for our date night so we made almost 6 miles to get there. Luckily, we already booked a table as the place was full when we reached. There is some Pay & Display parking spaces just down the road and it's free after 6pm. We ordered 3 meat: Ox tongue (£8.50), Spicy marinated sliced pork (£9.90) and seasoned pork steak & rib (£9.90). Each meat came with a dipping sauce. We also ordered lettuce & spring onion salad (£4.50) that was recommended to go with the grilled meat; pan-fried tofu (£7.50) and a boiled rice to share. The portion of the meat and salad was reasonable for the price but I personally thought the pan-fried tofu was a bit over-priced. Nothing to fault on the flavour-wise as everything was tasty. Very friendly and attentive service from start to finish. They would grill the meat for you so it was almost like watching a performance too. What a night. Thank you!

Found this place by accident and was so glad we did. The food is cooked at the table the staff àre so friendly can not fault it. I will definatly return and highly recommend you try it yourselves. .

The service is extremely efficient. Most important, the food they serve is outstanding. I ate there more than once and I was never disappointed. The price is decent. Such an amazing experience, I've lived in Stockport all my life and have never known this gem was hidden under my nose, the staff were polite and attentive, the food was well seasoned, and the atmosphere was breathtaking, its easy to find a place that you can enjoy at food but it's another to enjoy the experience

A real hidden gem. The beef was so well seasoned and delicious, the other meats we had were fantastic. Between 3 of us we had 5 different table BBQ dishes. We were recommended to get the salad, I was dubious as it is lettuce, however the pickled dish that comes with it was a pleasant surprise and a great compliment to the BBQ. We also ordered a lot of sides - the vermicelli was a good choice and the dumplings. I would say you may need one BBQ dish per head if you are hungry, but if you order a few and share them about it is perfect. We were just super hungry, greedy and excited to be out of lockdown! The staff are polite and helpful and who knew Korean beer was so good. I can't wait to return.

We were guided through the menu and enjoyed the BBQ at the table with lots of different side dishes, starters (not necessarily arriving as a starter) and rice. All great fun and very tasty. Stick to the Korean beer and the Soju drinks are very sweet. Also, very Covid secure with your temperature taken on arrival and tables well spaced out.

The food was really tasty and different service good and helpful though the restaurant was pretty quiet for a friday night. The price for salad ti accompany the barbecue was fairly steep and the offer if a refill ambiguous as it was charged.

Very good generally. Tables have BBQs in the centre and the meat is prepared at your table if you opt for the BBQ, which is encouraged. It’s good but I find the few minutes it takes to cool a bit awkward with the with the staff member at the table. They are very friendly I’m just antisocial. Kimchi pancakes was great as was most of the food.

I'm surprised Stockport has such a restaurant. The waiter even explained the menu, how to make and eat the food and cooked the meat so it's perfect. Big thanks to him for attention and great service. Amazing food! What else to say.. You just have to try it 😋 Will be back.
