Can't recommend Badger's Holt enough - the most absolutely gorgeous wedding venue in stunning surroundings. Emma and the team do an outstanding job, with endless calm, positivity, and support to help us bring together the perfect day and ensure both we and our guests had a fabulous time. We had our wedding at Badgers Holt in September 2023 and we cannot rate the venue and staff highly enough! The venue is beautiful and the perfect Dartmoor setting. Emma, Simon and the team we cannot fault, they were fantastic in both the planning as well as outstanding on the day! Their communication and warmth throughout the process was amazing and made planning our day so easy. We highly recommend this venue!

This is about the area and NOT the wedding venue, Badgers Holt well known spot on dartmoor and a favourite of many. Hadn't been for a while the big cafe/ shop has gone it is now a wedding venue and does not cater for holidaymakers. The car park large is now a pay and display only, bad move. There is a tiny coffee outlet, not a sit down one! and small snacks available.... Definitely won't be back, lovely scenic place ruined by zealots.

We LOVE Badgers Holt. We have been lucky enough to photograph here a couple of times now and it has been a pleasure. We see a lot of venues and meet a lot of people and Emma and her family are some of the most welcoming hosts we have worked with. They really do care about every wedding, and this adds so much to your day. The venue itself is great with space for indoor and outdoor ceremonies, this is perfect for the ever-changing British weather. We have photographed indoor and outdoor ceremony, and both are great options, it really is down to your preference and the weather. Neither one is better or worse. The area surrounding the venue is amazing. We are big outdoors fans and within a 2min walk you can have photographs that look as though we have hiked onto Dartmoor. From our point of view this is a big plus as it gives us the opportunity to get some amazing photos without taking you away from your guests for too long. If you do want to venture a little further, you can take a 10 min drive to one of the Tor’s nearby looking down onto Badgers Holt and on a clear day the views are stunning! If you are looking for a more intimate, family run, country wedding venue we would happily encourage anyone to take a look at Badgers Holt. We love it and hope to be back soon.

We had our wedding here in July 2022. We organised it over a 6 month period and Emma and Simon could not be more accommodating, communicative, or friendly to our requests and guests on the day. Couldn't be happier with our experience in both our day there and the easiness of bringing it all together up to the day. Highly recommended.

Our son and his wife had their wedding ceremony at this beautiful , rural venue on Saturday 12th Aug. The hosts Emma and Simon were absolutely amazing, so helpful, friendly and supportive, nothing was too much trouble. It's a family run venue right on the River Dart at Dartmeet. We had an incredible weekend, dancing well into the evening. Would thoroughly recommend their on site accommodation too. Well appointed, comfortable apartments for different numbers of guests. Fantastic to wake up to the sound of water from the river, and the call of the resident peacocks. All in all...fab thank you

One of, if not the best venue I have been to for a wedding. By breaking the mould from regular wedding venues, Badger Holt offers a relaxed and nature filled experience that other places will struggle to match. We used to love visiting this tea rooms for years. It was a really lovely traditional tea room, but unfortunately it has all changed. They used to sell lovely 2 slices of scones with their cream teas, now they sell one round scone as a cream tea, which is a great shame. This tea rooms used to be so busy with coaches etc where it was so popular, but when we visited their were only a handful of people eating there. We will not return.

It’s a real shame this place has become so much like every other cafe / restaurant! Times are changing & have changed but sometimes to much change is not good ! Been coming here since I was a kid & brought my own kids here ! Have such fond memory’s of this place & the gorgeous cream teas ! We actually came back in May as my Mother passed away a few years ago & because of covid we weren’t able to come here as a tribute & re living some of those fun happy times as a family that we had . I understand financially it’s not always viable to keep things the same in business but you loose that charming element of places if you completely take all of those charming elements out of it & it becomes all about money.

What an amazing day we had at Dartmeet & Badgers Holt. My friends and I visited on a Friday, was lovely weather and it was really busy. We got a table outside and a lovely lady came over very swiftly with a menu. Asking our party for drinks too. We really expected to order at the counter but it was all table service, we loved it, sat in the sun with a cold beer. The food looked really good coming out, so it wasn’t easy ordering. Our party had a mix of Pie, Ploughman’s & Panini’s. All were fantastic, thank you. The cream teas looked so good, but we were full. So, we decided to go for a walk. A very kind lady let us know of some great walks. An hour and half later we arrived back for a cream tea. It didn’t disappoint. And they had Cornish Tea, just lovely, we even bought a teapot! Thanks to everyone who looked after our party of 8, we truly appreciated it. Can’t wait for our next visit.

I cannot describe how disappointed I was with my visit to Badgers holt today. We have been visiting for many years , even celebrating birthdays here with many fond memories. I was so pleased when the new owners revamped the tea room, making it bright and airey with stunning bespoke furniture and a streamlined menu, so we were eager to visit again and sample the menu as well as purchase the Badgers Holt secret recipe cream tea which has always brought us back year after year. Sadly today we walked into a small , dark room , as half of the tea room is now behind a brick wall , a menu that offers overpriced alcohol and chips but not much of anything else and furniture that looks like it's been stolen out of a old cafe!! Parking is no longer available on site, the animals have all but gone and the area surrounding the building looks dilapidated and uncared for.

After 35+years of visiting Badgers Holt this was a sad & disappointing visit. *No gift shop anymore(although advertised on the board still!) *Menu poor with not much choice *Cream tea was OK not the best for 1 scone(didn’t taste homemade)& a small portion of cream & jam £7.50! With a teapot which had “Cornwall tea”on it … we are in Devon!!! (I do know it’s a make but just wasn’t right !!!me being a Devonian ruffled my feathers!!!) *Ladies toilets were vile in smell & the decor was not in keeping with the surroundings Purple & silver with botched up painting & a trough for hand washing!! (just my opinion!) Plants dotted around fake & real (a big no no) & a random old wooden high chair plonked in the corner which should have gone to the tip! ****Generally it’s a beautiful setting & all the staff were friendly & lovely & service was really quick**** Next time we visit Dartmeet I’ll probably just use the café in the Carpark & sit by the river!!

We travelled from Exeter as we had done many times in the past 20 years this time taking a guest who we had told how good the cream teas were at Badgers Holt. How wrong we were and we had too apologise to our guest. We ordered 3 cream teas and were given a single warm brioche-type bun (not scone), a meagre portion of jam and cream and tea served in thick canteen type crockery supposedly for £7.50. We simply said it was totally unacceptable, explained why and left. The owners should take note of the customer reviews not reject them out of hand; in itself, this demonstrates a lack of customer focus. People don't turn up in order to write bad reviews unfairly, they want a good experience. Check using independent advice from hospitality professionals. The service was just adequate, and the product awful. The place looked tatty and unloved. Please re-vamp the place and your falling standards before it is too late. We had so much been looking forward to it and it ruined our day. We will not re-visit.

Visited for a cream tea. Haven’t visited since pre Covid and was sadly disappointed. The scones are now made from a different recipe and not nearly as nice. £7.50 for 1 scone, a small pot of cream, a small pot of jam/jelly and a tea or coffee. Add on to that the £2 parking fee, there is no longer free parking. The little shop has gone. The toilets are rather unpleasant, dreadful smell. You can sit inside or outside and the surrounding scenery is beautiful. Not a place I’d choose to go to for afternoon tea again.

The location is fantastic, with walks along the Dart river and onto Dartmoor literally on the doorstep. The kindness and friendliness of the hosts was heartwarming and we look forward to a future stay.

After having had some delicious lunches and cream teas here after some long walks on Dartmoor, it was the obvious choice for us to ask to have our wedding reception at Badgers Holt. We love the outdoors and Badgers Holt is in such a beautiful, remote but accessible location. The grounds are lovely and we love the photo opportunities that the boulders in the river gave us. The venue also looks amazing inside with the wooden furniture, greenery and soft lighting. At the time, Badgers Holt didn't have a wedding licence, so we just had the reception there. It is exciting to learn that it is now possible to also have the ceremony at the beautiful riverside location. Our wedding was in October 2018. (I wrote a tripadvisor comment previously but my phone deleted it). All the way along, the business owners were so incredibly kind, approachable and helpful and helped us discuss and plan the decorations and food choices. They catered for vegan and gluten-free guests without a problem. We went for a Devonshire cream tea and prosecco 'wedding breakfast' preceding the speeches. Then we had a Ceilidh band / dance which was sooo fun and fit perfectly inside. Badgers Holt then served us a delicious buffet made from local produce. The food was the most commented-on thing by our guests! Many of them were impressed by the quality of the food and how delicious it was. Our wedding party actually arrived a bit early (sorry Badgers Holt!) but they were ready for us and everyone seemed calm and composed. The staff were brilliant from start to finish. They were all professional and friendly and ran a tight ship. Thank you! Some of our guests stayed in the homely accommodation at Badgers Holt and we stayed in the romantic bell tent by the river. There was a lovely cosy bed and a wood burner in there to keep us warm. Overall, it was a fantastic event. We wanted a countryside style wedding and Badgers Holt was the perfect venue. I couldn't recommend them enough.

We were given a tour as a possible wedding reception venue. The place is such a gem, so beautiful and offers the very best of Dartmoor. The owners could not have been more friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back for a meal or cream tea. Because of Covid19, you now have to book ahead for a visit, but that would be well worth it. I live nearby, and will definitely be recommending this place to family and friends when they visit.

WoW...... many years ago my grandparents and parents used to take us to Badgers Holt when we went to stay at our grandparents house, in fact it became a grandparent sort of thing to do, we were loosely connected to the Way family who previously had the cafe for years. As we had our own kids and brought them to Tavistock on holiday my parents did the same.Last year in my birthday my husband and I were staying south and we managed to go to Badgers Holt for a cream tea. This year we traveled south again too and asked friends to join us for what started off (in my mind) to be a cream tea.Emma greeted us and again she made us feel so important, she chatted and took the time to find out what we wanted. Full afternoon tea was the decision and they delivered exactly that, it bowled us over as we got more than we imagined and we were able to impress our friends. This place deserves a 5* rating. Every time we come back here they have made a new improvement, this year it was new outdoor furniture, fab.

Having found this special place early last year it has grown into a fabulous place to eat. With current restrictions adhered to and the tables all had 2 metre plus distance between them we felt very comfortable. We checked out their website and understood we had to book, which is a good thing. It was then we seen they are now open on Friday nights! We quickly booked a table and had the most amazing night! Nothing was to much trouble and the food was delicious. We were intending on only having 2 courses but the food on the menu was so tempting we had 3 courses. Loved the duck main course. Oh and the cheesecake with raspberry sorbet was the best I’d ever had. Having had such a great time, we duly booked for Sunday lunch. We weren’t disappointed. Again we had 3 courses, again everything was amazing. Thank you so much for looking after us on both occasions. It was a true culinary experience. Can’t wait to come back and taste more. The high tea menu looks great, so that could be our next visit.

We celebrated our Mum’s birthday today at Badgers Holt with a socially distant gathering of 11 across 3 tables. We all had a roast dinner and it was truly the best we have had for a very long time. All the food was wonderful, the owners and staff were fabulous and even had a gorgeous birthday cake. Highly recommend, a must visit.

We needed just a snack and drinks at lunch and found staff who could not have been more helpful. A bowl of chips between us and a couple of rolls and butter were just perfect and served very attractively. Readers should know that the chips here are better than anything you are likely to have tasted before. Some sort of special device cuts them into a spoon shape and they are cooked perfectly. Of course, the location is such that they need not even try, but they do, whcih earns extra marks.

Having popped in a couple of times for a drink, we decided to have lunch here. What a find!We were welcomed in from the cold and shown to a warm and cosy corner. Nothing was too much trouble - we were offered the choice of high chair, booster seat or cushion for our two year old grandson who soon found a selection of toys to play with. We were amazed at the three course meal on offer for children which came promptly - hummus with carrot and cucumber batons, followed by fish goujons, chips and mushy peas with a brownie to follow. The adults’ food was excellent too - all freshly cooked and very tasty. Thank you to all the staff who were very friendly and helpful. While many pubs stop serving food at 2pm, it’s good to find a place where food is served throughout the day.

We stopped in after a walk around one of the tours near by. Even though it was after their lunch service had finished they still made us some sandwiches and chips, which was greatly appreciated. Would return for a cream tea when the weather is nicer!

When touring Dartmoor there is no better place to stop for refreshments than here. In lovely Dartmeet, you will find it just through the main public car park.Upon arrival we were met with a very warm welcome. The food is of a very high standard, made onsite, and the Millionaire's Shortbread is to die for.Special mention should be made of new recruit Lorraine. It is so refreshing to be served by someone who is naturally bubbly, chatty and dishes out plenty of smiles. We enjoyed the Badgers Holt so much that we returned a couple of hours later for another cuppa and cake.Thank you to all and hope it is not too long before we revisit.

We had done friends down and wanted them to have a cream tea. It's the 1st place we have been that has offered a vegan cream tea, with coconut cream, as well as traditional cream teas and gluten free cream teas. The jam was delicious and everyone said the scones were amazing. The gluten free scone was certainly light and fluffy.A great place for a cream tea.It was also fun watching the antics of the peacocks and the goats.

This was the first time we’ve been back since the new owners have taken over, I was really pleasantly surprised, what a lovely warm welcoming atmosphere. The premises has been given a good overhaul, with more to come this winter. There’s a great fire in the corner, with comfy old leather sofas, (really comfy may I add). We only had coffee and cake today, but both were great, and we just sat and relaxed. Next time, after the winter break, will be Sunday lunch. I would highly recommend a visit, if you do, I’m sure you’ll go back. You get a very warm welcome, good service and excellent coffee and cake. There is only one minus point, and this is picky, there was no free WiFi !! There is no mobile coverage there at all, and if there was WiFi I could have written this review sat on that comfy sofa with my great coffee . Visit here, you won’t regret it

Stopped for a coffee and vegan chocolate cake recommended by daughter. Both very good, especially in armchairs in front of a wood burning stove! Friendly and relaxed. Peacocks, rabbits, goats etc on the doorstep and, of course, the river. So scenic even in November. A short walk down to the bridge and back was lovely.

Beautiful venue right on top of a babbling brook, it really feels as though you've stepped in to a children's story...such a pleasant experience to find a carefully planned and inventive menu in the middle of Dartmoor, the food alone was worth the visit. The special was hake in a herb-crumbed coating, highly recommended.Having visited from abroad, we felt very lucky to choose a village restaurant which had thoughtful local delicacies and gifts on display to take back for our friends - we left with a Dartmoor calendar, a beautiful piece of vintage jewellery and two bottles of locally distilled gin! The team were simply lovely and so attentive...what a great experience!

Visited Badger's Holt with my family after a walk on the moors and it was a perfect spot for lunch! You couldn't get a better location, the coffee was really well-made, and we had a wholesome lunch of toasted sandwiches which were all very reasonably priced! The service was impeccable, swift, and very friendly. We are a Devon family and have been to Badger's Holt many many times over the years and it is lovely to see it in good hands - great work!

Your staff were great especially Holly she was amazing. The food wasn’t up to your usual standards, the pork crackling was solid couldn’t be eaten, the chocolate brownie was more a chocolate sponge and a very small portion,, my friend had the chocolate bomb dessert she said she wouldn’t have it again. It’s a shame I’ve eaten here before and the food was better. Response to the business comment. I did say when they collected our plates that I was unable to eat the crackling as it was so hard. I didn’t complain about any other part of the food as I was with a friend who was on holiday and didn’t want to ruin the meal. It was edible except the crackling but I won’t be back in a hurry. Also I don’t give negative reviews usually I had an email from you asking you do a survey which I did and you gave me the option to copy and paste to google reviews.

Pass by the chain coffee shops and pop in here. Based in the market. Serves great local coffee and all the cakes and lunches are homemade. Family run business. Great friendly staff.
