BA-HA in Birmingham

Had takeaway from here for my birthday after hearing all the rave (and mixed!) reviews and was torn between Peacer but thankfully they did a collab with them too! I was not disappointed at all as everything was really tasty, although I couldn't eat it till over an hour later due to rush hour and being on a call it was unfortunately cold. Have been disappointed with all the many takeaways and restaurants have been to over the years but would definitely return here. The only bad point was parking was difficult as there was no phone reception to pay for it so waited until after 6pm for free parking. The Neapolitan pizza was great and the Kentucky mushrooms! Will try the mushroom pizza next time!

Popped in for a late lunch with my 13 y/o daughter. Was excited to try the place as the menu looked great and the reviews were overwhelmingly positive. Ordered a burger and hummus with flatbread (minus the chilli oil accompaniment). Hummus was dry and tasted off. Very strange. Sour. My daughter said 'how difficult is it to get hummus right?' and 'this should be a staple in a vegan restaurant' and I had to agree on both counts. Fella asked how our food had been, and I said 'that's not quite right.' Not a word of apology. Not one. Not a 'what's wrong with it?', nothing. Instead, a defensive and short, 'That's because you didn't have the chilli oil. That would have balanced it out.' Since when did hummus need balancing out with anything? As for the burger, I didn't mention anything because it wasn't as manky as the hummus, but although the first mouthful was great - lovely pickles and overall flavour, and very promising - the rest of it was barely warm, the lettuce in the salad was brown, and the fries were dry (and didn't come with the offer of any condiments). Wouldn't mind, but it wasn't cheap.

BA-HA is based inside a traditional pub called the rainbow. Situated near the custard factory (a cool area!) We arrived at 2-2:30pm on a Sunday and opted for their roasts. You can have your choice of different “meats”, we went for a breaded king oyster mushroom and a lentil loaf. Both dishes came out very quickly and were a GREAT big portion size. They come with a Yorkshire pudding which is a nice addition (but honestly the texture is nothing like a real yorkie). The roast was exactly what we needed, probably the best vegan roast I’ve had. The only thing I would’ve enjoyed more about it would’ve been some sauce (cranberry/mint/apple - but I’m a sauce fiend) One thing I will say is that the place was incredibly loud. Like, shockingly. I’m someone who enjoys loud music a LOT but the music was disrupting my thought pattern haha and it was hard to sometimes hear someone speaking to you (it was 2-3pm on a Sunday). But I am neurodivergent so maybe it’s not an issue for most. The DJ did play some really great music to be honest. Another thing to note was that regulars that walked through the door after I was even at the bar waiting were served before me which was a bit disappointing but it’s no big deal for me.

Not gonna lie, I havent even tried the food but i got so disappointed when the menu said (top right side) that its 50% off your main in January for Veganuary if you subscribe, I then subscribed and the server said that the discount is already applied on the menu? Like what? Why do they ask people to subscribe then? Then she proceeded to charge me the full price of £8 for my mac and cheese main. I wouldnt have been mad if i didnt see the discount or if it made sense but it doesnt to me. Also the portion of mac is really small for £8 (its a mug of mac and cheese)

The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. We ate a main course and a desert. I visited BA-HA a few years ago when they were situated near Brindley Place so I was delighted to learn that they are still serving amazing food from a different venue.

The BA-HA van was onsite at Daresbury on Saturday. Disappointed with the attitude of the person taking the orders. I only wanted a portion of chips and had to wait 15-20 minutes. When I went to collect my chips they had been given to someone else. I was told that I’d have to wait another 15 minutes for more chips to be cooked! Why they didn’t have another lot of chips cooking I really don’t know. The person then said we’re not taking any more orders. It wasn’t even 7.30pm and plenty of people still wanted food. Unfortunately for BA-HA and their lack of customer service people went to the other food vendors and I didn’t get my chips. I would not recommend this vendor and hopefully they won’t return to Daresbury next year!

This was one of the BEST bottomless brunches to be had in Birmingham!! The drinks were really yum and you get a selection of “sweet shop cocktails” and there’s definitely something for everyone! The food was incredible, really impressive selection for an all vegan venue, and the burger was the best I’ve ever had! Really nice atmosphere we sat in the courtyard and it was very chilled, there’s TVs outside if you want to watch the sport but we didn’t feel like this made it rowdy and we could still have conversations in our groups at the same time. At £35 each, you want to make sure you get you your moneys worth, and the drinks were flowing so we definitely did - thanks to Luke he was super speedy and friendly and really knowledgable about the menu! Utterly brilliant place, will be back very soon!!

We've been several times now and the food has always been amazing! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and honestly you are spoilt for choice from their wonderful menu!

I came here for a Sunday roast with some vegan foodie friends. I was really excited to take them as I’d had the vegan roast twice before and it was unbelievably good both times. This time however, it was really not good at all. The portions were nothing like what they had previously been, the ‘meat’ was dry and tiny when this had been the star of the show previously. The Yorkshire puds were the texture of a rubbery plastic and the cauliflower cheese was like watery milk over some badly cooked veg. I was so embarrassed as I’d really built this place up to my friends! I don’t think I’d ever go again based on this experience but I’d happily time travel to a Sunday roast in 2022 everyday of the week!

All of the food was incredible. Loads of options. I had the Mac daddy burger which was to die for and my boyfriend had the katsu chicken burger which was just incredible. 1000 million% recommend for vegans and non-vegans.

The Rainbow itself is worth a visit, great staff who were really attentive and as far as a chilled vibe goes this is the place to be. Definitely on the re-visit list. What can I say? The chef, Frankie, is second to none. Took my girlfriend here pre gig. She has allergies to most things, so we asked the usual questions of the waiter and he went off to ask. Lucky for us, Frankie was there, despite it being her day off. We didnt just get fobbed off, like we have been in posher restaurants previously. Nope, Frankie came to our table and sat for about 20 minutes discussing my girlfriends allergies with us to find out how bad they were and what she could eat. Once all of this was established, Frankie devised a dish just for her and then went and briefed the on shift chef, prepping the kitchen and ingredients herself. Above and beyond doesnt even come into it, she was AMAZING. And we love her for it 💖 As for the food, well that was AMAZING too, but having chatted to Frankie, we had no doubt it would be! The Nobo jackfruit meatballs were just incredible. The mocktails were great, the atmos is fab, really Bohemian. Get yourselves down to The Rainbow and treat yourselves to Ba-Ha...you wont be disappointed. Thankyou to Frankie and the chef who cooked the food, you really did do a very special job for us and it wont be forgotten 💖

We asked for food recommendations for our trip to Birmingham and several people suggested Ba-Ha so we decided to give it a go. Food was lovely, we had the brisket and a side of calamari.
