Azouma in Canterbury

I was a little anxious because we were the only customers in the restaurant on a Friday lunchtime. However the food was fantastic. It’s difficult to get a juicy succulent chicken taouk, but they nailed it. It was really yummy, all of it. We had a mixed mezzo to start. I would recommend!

£14.95 fixed price menu only available Sunday to Thursday, which it does not make clear in the window. Lamb shish was not very flavourful and could have been much better. Baba Ghanoush was a nice starter.

The, food was very expensive.i only ordered lamb Kefta and Harrisa beans on soup version the salad was very dry had no dressing sauce. I didn't had glass of water. And paid 20.90£

Absolutely terrible. The only good part of the meal was the cold water. I’m not sure why this place has good ratings but it lead to me to come here and I’ve never been more disappointed in my life. Honestly so bad, my cat eats better than the food they serve. My starters were cold. I couldn’t even finish the mains it was so terrible. Rotten meat in the mixed grill and the lamb tagine was some sort of watered down flavourless mess. Do not waste your hard earned money over this crap.

£30 for Running water Lamb Tagine , 3 puces meat is hard like rock, only 3 prices of carrot, 2 pcs of potato’s and few chick peas £33 for the mixed grill , with rotten mince meat which smells, meat was very tuff only few cubes of chicken was eatable . Total waste of money. Paid £63.90 for worse food experience of my life . Not recommended at all

Seating area is good but the service and food wasn’t great at all. Ordered a platter which was supposed to be served with Hummus and another side but came only with one side and upon asking few times hummus came in a very little pot. Ordered feta Salad which was served without any feta. Not a great experience

I had extremely high expectations from this restaurant! We booked the restaurant as we were celebrating my nephew graduation meal, for 17 guest. We arrived on time, we were taken downstairs, the ambience was lovely, we all sat down, and the lady came took our drinks order. No bread or dip to begin with, we ended up ordering 5 mix platters and grilled king prawns, only for them to come back and tell us they'd run out of chips so they'd make wedges and had no king prawns from the main as I wanted grilled, so was given the option to have smaller king prawns from the starter section .... bearing in kind, we booked 2 weeks ahead of time, so they should've been prepared.... the restaurant wasn't busy at all, few tables upstairs and thats about it. drinks orders Pretty much all came different times, we ordered mocktails at 6.20ish some of us didn't get our drinks 45 plus min later and some arrived just before we left, we Was so disappointed.... then the food arrived it's wasn't great, very bland, to our suprise the 5 platters came within 25min...... Iv been to other turkish restaurants before and if I was to order it would've been way over an hour. when I saw the prawns... they were not KING PRAWNS.... I was horrified and just so disappointed.... toilets weren't clear, dusty, and flies buzzing around, so everytime someone went to use the toilet flies were bussing around the restaurant and sitting on the food..... the two ladies who served us, the lady in the hijab really didn't know what she was doing and to be fair was just faffing, but there was another lady I didnt get her name, she had only been there few weeks, did her utmost best to cater for us! It's a shame the restaurant has so much potential but it seems like they've lost motivation and don't really care... staff outside smoking and drinking not very professional. unfortunately, i won't be visiting them again but will come to Canterbury for sure.

A restaurant that offers Moroccan dishes suitable for vegetarians and meat and fish lovers at acceptable prices. The service is wonderful and very friendly, especially sister Samira. Note: The quantity is small

I had a wonderful experience at Azouma Restaurant. Not only is it a halal restaurant with delicious food, but it also goes above and beyond to accommodate its patrons. I was particularly impressed with their flexibility in providing a space for prayer. It’s rare to find a place that caters to both culinary and spiritual needs so well. Additionally, I must mention that Samira, one of the waiters, was incredibly friendly and attentive. Her warm hospitality made our visit even more enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great dining experience in a welcoming and considerate environment.

Delicious food and lovely staff

I have been to this place many times by myself and one time with a friend. It is the place when I want to reward myself ☺️ Great taste. Reasonable price for the quantity and quality. Excellent and welcoming service. I tried Qousi Lahem, and it was unbelievable 🤤. Also, the Mix grill for 1 person and for 2 persons are great.

Four of us recently had the set lunch menu.We thought it was good value.The service was ok if a little slow.Probably it would be more atmospheric in the evening.

First time having Moroccan food and it was amazing. Loved the tangine and the fresh flatbread was a nice surprise.

Lovely food, very reasonable prices for the town centre. The wait staff were also extremely attentive! If you order the tagine be prepared for a large dish!!!

Not a bad place in Canterbury for a warm and cozy dinner. We got the 3 course tagine meal for £24.95 which had a lot of food. Lamb tagine wasn’t as tender as I’d prefer, but overall the food was decent. Hummus was quite nice!

Was once a lovely restaurant but unfortunately no more. Walked in to a strong smell of weed! Smell was then covered up by incense. Food was tasteless, moussaka made with potatoes, carrots and chickpeas, not an aubergine in sight!

Great food, reasonable prices. We went for lunch and the lunch specials were very good value. Everyone ate heartily and including drinks it came to less than £30. We shared a mixed grill of chicken and lamb shish, kofte etc which was delicious.

We were there around 13ish when it wasn’t busy at all (maybe 3-4 tables including us)but we waited long time to have our food, approx. 25 mins for starter and another 25mins for main dishes which was quite unpleasant. We ordered 2x grilled meats and 2 Tagine meats for the lunch special menu. The food wasn’t really impressive. Not very good quality of meats and not too much taste. The only thing I like is the rice which has good moisture and taste. The dessert we had was chocolate cake which was kind of dry. Overall the price was good (less than £15 each without service charge) but if there were others options I definitely won’t come back!

Lovely old building, nice decor and friendly staff. The restaurant is under new management and the menu is a lot smaller than it used to be. They no longer serve a buffet lunch, which is a pity, but understandable post-covid. The tagines were tasty, but having run out of couscous early on a Friday evening was surprising. The toilets could do with a little attention as well. So, worth a try, but it doesn't match up to the old days at the moment.

Lovely meal, birthday celebration, starters, mains and dessert all very tasty. We had calamari and mixed starters, tagines and shawarma, both lamb and chicken. My son had Arabic coffee.

We were really looking forward to coming back to Azouma having eaten here many times before and we hadn’t been in quite a few years, however it has clearly changed hands and unfortunately gone massively downhill. We visited on a Saturday evening and the restaurant was half empty with no atmosphere. It was extremely run down and there was even a big patch of black mould on the ceiling above tables which is really off putting and unhygienic in a restaurant environment.

First time here ,after reading the reviews and our previous favourite Moroccan restaurant having closed down we were hoping for a special treat. Unfortunately this was not the case. There is absolutely no ambiance in the restaurant, with harsh lighting and being very poorly appointed.and cold. The waitress ,although pleasant, has obviously not been given any training with us having to ask at each course for cutlery and napkins etc and at no time were we asked if everything was OK. First red flag was no beer on tap being available,despite having two on display, to remedy this we were offered two bottles of Peroni for the price of a draft pint, a very suitable substitute. We ordered two set meals, the mix Mezz and although tasty were very small portions consisting of a lamb samosa, a meat pasty and a cheese roll on a thin layer of humour. The home made bread was very thin and dissolved into crumbs when broken. Two tangines were ordered the vegetarian, which was very tasty and wholesome and a Lamb which was not so. The lamb although tender tasted just of lamb with no seasoning,or evidence of being cooked in spices, the sauce was thin and watery with the main flavour appearing to be cinnamon. Strangely the Tangine contained potatoes,carrots and swede, with a very few pieces of fruit. So all in all it resembled a lamb stew.The rice that came with it was fine. Coffee and tea and baclava came as a desert which apart from having again having to ask for forks were OK. So to summarise, the restaurant is more cafe than cosy, the place could do with refurbishment especially the toilets. The food that we had was generally ok, but did not match the standard of other reviews for this restaurant. Would we go back, probably not.

We came here for a friend's 40th birthday meal. It was mid week and we were a party of 4 with nobody else in the restaurant. The starters and main meal were ok but the fudge cake was stale and should not have been served. The restaurant could do with an update with a wonky curtain pole, dirty looking curtains and wall fixtures fallen on the floor. Service was very slow considering the restaurant was empty. Food was ok but I wouldn't return.

Wonderful weekend lunchtime buffet. Huge range of very tasty dishes at extremely reasonable price. Only thing missing was couscous or something other than bread to soak up all the delicious sauces.

This was one of my favorite restaurants for many years, I have been many many times....however today's lunch was a extremely disappointing experience and has let a bad taste in the mouth!! Lovely authentic rooms . Comfortable seating. Felt like I was un Morocco. The food was amazing. Taste buds overload. Reminded me of having a meal in the mountains of Morocco.

We had an amazing dining experience at this restaurant! The tabbouleh, hummus, and foul madame starters were bursting with flavor, while the lamb and chicken tagine, lentil soup, and heavenly homemade bread left us completely satisfied. The blend of Morrocan and Middle Eastern cuisine created a delightful fusion. The lovely service from the girl and the charming Moroccan atmosphere added to the overall enjoyment. Highly recommend this gem!

The only restaurant opened on Christmas day. Very friendly and helpful staff. Freeflow feshly baked flat bread was the highlight. Lentil soup, hummus, lamb targine were delicious. Highly recommended.

I usually don’t write reviews for restaurants but this restaurant was really gave us an amazing experience and i feel compelled to write this review Firstly;; just wanna state that this restaurant is SEVERELY UNDERRATED. When we entered the restaurant, there was nobody else dining here. Starting off with the pricing of the food. The prices of food here is relatively cheaper than everywhere else in the city and for the quality of the food that they serve, it’s a price for great value. Next, foods. There’s not that many options for food here but it doesn’t matter because the food here is AMAZING and i do not say that lightly. They serve a 3 course meal for £14 with foods you will probably not find anywhere else in Canterbury. The food was succulent and was delivered relatively quickly; they even made sure to serve us after we’d finish our starters ->> more on this in the service section later but the foods, from starter to main course and dessert were simply sensational. I would highly recommend for everyone to try. Lastly, service. Where do i even start- the service was simply put: amazing. There were constant checkins on whether the food was okay, whether we needed anything— water refills; more bread (complimentary btw!) or anything. Extremely friendly service and I can see the dedication in the waiter’s eyes as well. Thats all~

A lot of good and delicious food and a nice place

Went here middle of October, food was cold, most of the deserts in the self service were off and nothing about the food aside from a couple of salads was especially Lebanese. It seems it was mostly run by North Africans selling mostly Moroccan and Indian food.

My husband and I went there today, we enjoyed the food and the service. Very homely and after eating we can literally sleep in the sofa haha. We are so stuffed. Thank you.. lovely and delicious food and oh desserts as well 🤤.

DONT waste your money. Having eaten here a couple of years ago we thought to revisit, what a mistake that was. The food was tasteless and soulless. The “ taglines “ were just chunks of meat swimming in a tasteless liquid , which was warm at best. There was one rice, vegetable biryani and some other vegetable dishes again floating in some non descriptive liquid. I can only assume looking back to the Azouma’s of days long gone that they have had a management change, I’m certain the chef/cook has never tasted his/her own dishes???

So sad to see, what was once a lovely restaurant, has let itself go! Have visited here many times but have never had such an appalling experience as this time!! How on earth it has a 4 star food review, I will never know... in my opinion, it only deserves 2. Service was non existent. There was a poor choice of buffet (most were virtually empty and not topped up during our meal) and what was available was minimal, watered down and no hotter than lukewarm!!. Dessert's were dry and tasteless (no choice of cream, yoghurt or ice cream to help it go down). It certainly was not worth £15 We will not be returning and DEFINITELY will not be recommending anymore.

We planned a visit to the Canterbury Cathdral all the way from London we googled the nearest best restaurant and found Azouma..we ordered Chicken tagine and Vegetarian moussaka..The food was watery mo taste and none of the vegetables on the menu were added to our food..Chicken was hard and uncooked moussaka had French beans and stale carrots and there was no bechamel sauce..The whole food was below standard and not fit for human consumption..We didn't eat the food sent the bill of £69.50 and we were only given a discount if £9..You eat there at your own risk..Never ever will I go back there..Got home and I had a terrible stomachache..disgusting

The place is very unclean and it also smells unclean. The tables weren’t properly cleaned either, but the food is amazing! The food comes in generous portions and is delicious.

Great middle eastern restaurant. Quite a few dishes are vegetarian naturally so it was a great choice for us veges The mixed vegetarian starter was great. We ended up sharing a main of a vegetable tagine. The meat choices looked good. The home cooked flat bread was fantastic with the Baba Ghanoush dip. Middle eastern music and decor added to the atmosphere.

The food was lovely and freshly cooked. Good value for money and friendly staff. Lamb melted in my mouth.

It was a quiet service but we were 6 so made our own atmosphere. Food and service was great, no complaints, portions were good, no-one managed a desert. All the meat dishes we had were very well favoured as were the seafood tagine.

Won't be going back and wouldn't recommend the lunch buffet, by the time I got up there to get food half of it was empty and didn't have any left of what I wanted, 15 minutes later still not refilled and ended up getting the bill and leaving, 6 of us and all 6 said we wouldn't go back.

My lamb tagine was amazing. I eat in many places ( countries) different types of food, but this was excellent made. I don't usually drink cocktails but from time to time I will try something new. The same very good cocktails. The baklava at the end very good.

We ordered the buffet and were taken on a guided tour of the hot plates. What was on offer didn't resemble the online menu, it was seriously lacking in variety. Everything was bland, tired, dried up as though it had been out for a while....

Not authentic and just not good food. Very nice ambience in this restaurant so I had high expectations especially with its high rating. Our main dishes came out hot but the flavours were so very bland. Was extremely let down by the mezze with a watery tzatziki and no bread for dipping. Everything overpriced, veggie ingredients looked like they came from bags of frozen. I will not be visiting again.

Honestly the food was amazing, went to Morocco last summer and wanted to rexperience it by trying some Moroccan food, it was an exact replica and tasted great, the service was great and the atmosphere was like a trip down memory lane

I been there for lunch buffet with my friends, there was lots of choices of different types of food. It was absolutely amazing and testy.
