I hope Azerbaijan Restaurant can fix their service in the future as I enjoy their food.

I love this restaurant and keep going back as time after time they never fail to satisfy me. I'm Persian so I have eaten a lot of Persian cuisine and out of all of the Persian restaurants I have been in London, the food here is really the best! It's all about the excellent flavours and the attention to detail with their presentation. Most other Persian restaurants in London have very bland food and sloppy plates are often served to you. Not at Azerbaijan restaurant though. The staff are also wonderfully friendly and always quick with their service. It really is one of my favourite places to dine, whether it's for a quick lunch or a lovely evening dinner with friends.

What can I say about this place? It's absolutely amazing! The first time I went there was in July 2015, but I went again last night for my husband's birthday. The place was just as wonderful as it was last summer! The staff is so patient (I think it is run by a family based on conversation with the staff) and their recommendations are great! The first time we went was with my parents who were visiting from the US and my dad is very picky about EVERYTHING (I mean about where to sit, the food, EVERYTHING). The hostess/waitress was so patient allowing us to switch tables, turning down the music, patiently explaining the menu items, even getting a sample of their saffron for my dad to see for himself! Needless to say, he was won over by this place, which was no easy task! The food is delicious, and the portion sizes are incredibly generous! While the meats are divine, even our vegetarian friend was quite pleased with the okra dish she ordered. My lamb chops were stunning, and the naan bread was made fresh in front of us and was incredible! The prices are also very affordable and such a bargain for the portion sizes. All in all, this place is going to be a regular visit for us!

We went to Azerbaijan on a cold afternoon in late November. The restaurant was warm, the food hot and delicious. We are vegetarians and had gone to the restaurant because we were curious about Azeri food, and happy to find vegetarian options so we could sample the cuisine. We were not disappointed. We had an eggplant appetizer. The dish was cold (as it was supposed to be) and beautifully spiced. They made some delicious nan to be eaten with the dish in a tandoori oven in front of our eyes. It was one of the best naans I have ever tasted! We ordered 2 more entrees, and were struck at how different each of our 3 dishes were from each other, and all delicious in its own way. We rounded it off with a plate of baklava.Service was also very good. The owner was most charming and hospitable, as was the wait-staff.

We went in towards the end of lunchtime on Saturday and were served by who I think was the owner. The portions were massive and the service was the most attentive and personal I've ever had in a restaurant. We had the fresh nan (made in front of us), the oat soup (delicious, so many flavours in it) and chicken and lamb skewers which were served with tomatoes, a chili and tons of rice (with pomegranate seeds sprinkled on top). Also got a delicious free salad. Service was very attentive, like we were guests. My only complaint was drink prices were huge (~£2.50 for a can of sprite) but all restaurants seem to make their money on drinks! We'll be coming here a lot more

We often dine here and find the food really fantastic, and the service is always very attentive too. Weekends you can pay a set price for a menu with music and dancing in the funky underground area. It has a very rustic feel and the food is good quality. The only issue I have encountered on more than one occasion is when they bring out sweets that you have not ordered at the end of the meal and then charge you for it when you are in a group - this is misleading and unfair - and frankly other restaurants like Maroush etc give you those sweets and even fruit after the meal at no extra cost. Naughty! so remember to say no thank you if they are bringing out things you did not order!

Well where shall i start off! I have been here many times as this restaurant has never failed to exceed expectations. From the outside the restaurant has a beautiful set-up complimented by a really cool motorbike owned by the manager. Then as you enter you are welcomed immediately by a friendly waiter or the manager himself. There are a variety of seating options as there is a downstairs venue as well that caters for any sort of special occasion. The atmosphere is brilliant, with music playing in the background and the different art pieces hanging on the wall that really makes you feel like you are in Iran or Turkey. The service was quick, and the food was cooked to perfection. We started off with a beautiful selection of starters accompanied by home-made bread all of which give a different unique taste to your pallet. We then had the main, i went for the quail, while my friends went for mixed kebabs and lamb chops all accompanied by rice and salad (which i must say is one of the best salads i have had they make there own salad cream). All the food was served hot and well presented. The price was very reasonable for the large amount of food we had. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for new experiences or too have that back home feeling.

Azerbaijan is the latest in an enclave of excellent restaurants on Hammersmith King Street. The food is delicious and full of rich Central Asian flavours - pomegranate, 'turkish' green chillies, orange, apricots. The yoghurt based starters are deliciously savoury (and quite heavy); the grills are superbly succulent, and the gravy based dishes (we had fessenjan and bademjan) are subtly different from each other. The Azerbaijani Nan, baked in a clay oven inside the restaurant is a great touch - the smells make you salivate as soon as you come in.We've been here a few times now, as a couple, with friends and with a large family group. The food and service have been great every time, with one or two dishes 'courtesy of the manager' appearing on the table pretty much every time. Highly recommend this place, and if you're in the mood, go for a bottle of the Georgian red wine.

On New Year's Day 2015 me and my partner thought we would try a new cuisine and with so few places open we opted to eat here. I know that I'm tying this review 6 months later, but it was such a bad experience I remember it vividly. The place was empty apart from a couple with their noisy infant, which I didn't mind until the waiter sat us right next to them. It was a bit awkward for both me and my girlfriend an the couple as it was obvious the waiter should have sat us elsewhere. Eventually we was. The waiter wasn't too knowledgeable on wines so passed us onto the manager, we stated we like Malbec but willing to try something new. We tried a Georgian wine after deliberating and speaking with the manager. Wasn't our best choice but we did want to try something new.Our starters were bland, they wwere the hummus and tabbouleh. The fresh bread was much nicer on its own. We wasn't offered any water at all while we ate. Before we finished the starter we were given our mains so had a lot on our table. I ordered lamb with herbs and fresh lime with saffron rice. Instead I received lamb drowned in a dark green sauce that has the same colour as mint sauce from a jar, but as much flavour as the glass jar of the mint sauce. I found the lime, it was extremely sour and tasted off. The rice was just buttered, no saffron seen at all.Staff were clueless, food was poor The fresh bread was the nicest thing there. I do realise we wanted to try something new, but new as in a good experience not awful food.

I wish i could make a comment on the food on offer but unfortunately we never got to even taste it. 1) place takeaway order at 7.30pm. By 8.30 nothing has been delivered to our address which is about 10 minutes down the road. 8.35 i make a call and politely ask about our order. I am told by a very dismissive and angry man that it is on the way. By 9pm...still nothing. Call again, just to be told that the delivery man has had a car accident and he is delayed. I say im very sorry to hear that but still wonder what is happening with our order. The manager assures me that by 9.30 we will have our food. Well 10.30, still no food i make the third phone call quite angry and the manager claims that the delivery did sort of happen but they couldnt find our address. I ask why he didn't perhaps call me and he claims they did but my phone was switched off (it obviously wasnt). At this point i just say that i dont want anything from them but a refund for the food i had already paid online. Not sure i will be getting that back either as the manager said he can still deliver the food (3+ h later) and i am being difficult for not wanting it anymore. Shocking service and shocking attitude. It has been over a month since my wife and I dined at Azerbaijan but I still can't forget the exceptionally fine Azerbaijani dish I was served, a single lamb meatball with a savory gravy such as I've never had before. It was large enough that I almost had to leave some--and should have--but simply couldn't. The flavors were so rich and complex and the texture was tantalizing, compelling me to keep eating until it was all gone. My wife's lamb, though not quite as unique, was also perfectly done and bail utterly delicious. Our server was gracious, attentive and informative, explaining that the meatball dish, though certainly not the priciest thing on the menu, was something that was quite special and worth trying. His wine recommendation--the house wine--proved an excellent choice, and the whole experience was delightful. We'll certainly go back next time we're in London.

We booked a table for my friends birthday party for downstairs. The food and service was ok but the keyboard player was awful. The old guy was playing out of tune and didn't have a clue about music. My wife is iranian and I really enjoy persian music but,I think they must get a new keyboard player. Someone who can understand proper persian melody. All my iranian friends left the restaurant earlier.what a shame.

Three of us came to this restaurant in Hammersmith last night. We received a friendly greeting, seated and given our menus, and asked for our drinks orders. Items on the menu were exp!aimed and we ended up with a starter of breads with mixed dips - absolutely delicious. A salad is put on the table (free of charge) to go with the started. For main course we had one stew, one chicken dish and one lamb dish. They came with rice but we chose to have the rice with fruits of the garden instead. We shared the food between the three of us. We did not want a desert but I had a fresh mint tea to finish with. The owner came over for a chat before we left. A very good evening, reasonably priced and good atmosphere. Will certainly be back and would recommend. My son has also had a take away from them. Just as good.Do go and try it out.

I tried this restaurant with some friends recently. None of us had any experience with traditional food from Azerbaijan, so we weren't sure what to order. The staff was very accomodating and gave us some good reccomendations. We started with a variety plate of dips with bread - all were quite good, but were I to go again, I would skip everything and just get a large helping of hummous - it was great! At the waiter's recommednation, we did a family-style platter of various grilled meats for the main. The various lamb dishes were all tasty, and the chicken was good if not spectacular. The saffron rice was very well put together, and one of my friends tried the rice with dill - he enjoyed it very much.As a bonus, the saffron ice cream was a treat, and they also had a decent selection of wines (we ended up going with a Georgian wine - they had many that weren't on the menu, so if you know anything about wine, ask and see if they have your favorite)

First time ordering, ordered a vegetarian main course and received a lamb dish. Didn't receive the starter salad and received three rice instead of my food. Phoned to let them know and they said they would send the replacements, 50 minutes later and no sign of the dishes I ordered. Disappointing wouldn't order again

I booked this restaurant a Friday night for my wife' birthday surprise last January, we had about 25 Iranian/ none Iranian guests. It looked we have booked whole restaurant, their service was great, they could do better when collecting and cleaning the tables, but in general they did their best. The Music (Mr, Salahshoor) was excellent, he made the night for all of us.The food was great and freshly made. We had set menu, but they served few more dishes for couple of vegetarian guests. They even decorated the tables and prepared balloons. All went well.

Azerbaijan is not too well represented on the London cuisine circuit...there are rarely more than a couple of restaurants at any given time...one closes as soon as it gets a bit known. So go try one before its abandoned! This one is in Ballards Lane, East Finchley, not too well served by public transport, and the parking isn't that great either. Azerbaijani food is pretty much the same as Irani, with a hint of Turkish perhaps...so you won't find anything unique so much as lovingly prepared. The atmosphere is great: a sense of wide open spaces..and on the week-ends there is Azeri singing, with all the guests joining in the dancing: women and children - with the latter more likely to be in the men's arms than the former! It really is like being at a party. The staff are attentive, helpful and patient. The only pity is the extremely short wine list - just two bottles of Georgian wines - a red and a white. If only they had a BYO policy...a lively night out would be made even merrier!

... according to my boyfriend. This restaurant offers the standard Persian fare (various kebabs with rice and stews) with a few Azeri/Tabrizi extras. I particularly appreciated the attention to detail in that butter was provided without asking (I have been to too many Persian restuarants where you have to ask for it to be brought out) and the food was also served with soomagh (sumac). I'm not a fan of doogh (Persian yoghurt drink) myself, but my boyfriend declared it excellent. The restaurant was also very tastefully decorated, which belied the unprepossessing exterior, with photographs from Tabriz in northern Iran. It was very quiet at lunchtime, so I think this restaurant is best visited in the evenings. The manager seemed to be taking a lot of bookings over the phone whilst we were there.

Booked this restaurant for my wife's birthday party. We reserved for a table of 16, and asked on two separate occasions prior to the big night that each guest would choose 'a la carte' so that each person can chose what they want. The evening started with a selection of Persian starters, including aubergine dips, yoghurt dips and fresh salads. This was fairly tasty and came with bread. The main course however was not as expected. Rather than allowing us to select off the menu as arranged, without knowledge, several large trays of kebabs were placed on our tables, and whilst still halfway through our starters, the plates with our dips still on where quickly taken away from us mid-bite and replaced with rice and kebabs! The rushed nature of the servers was not to the taste of any of our guests, however, there was a time and place to talk to the staff about it, but now was not the time so as not to spoil the birthday. The food was very below par! The kebabs were overcooked, dry and tasteless. With Persian cuisine normally fragrant and full of juicy kebab, I was very disappointed at this sub-standard selection that was put in front of us.The chicken kebabs were tiny, (almost quail sized), the koobideh was awfully dry and had no taste, the lamb kebab was burnt and the rice was cold!Normally I would have sent it all back, but I didn't want to embarrass the event in front of my guests. There was live music which was ok, the singer made a half hearted effort, but was missing the will to make a good night of it. In fact, if our party was not in the restaurant, the singer would have had an audience of about 3 people! This restaurant is in an affluent Iranian part of London, (Finchley) and therefore should be much better, but I strongly advise avoiding this place and going further down Ballards Lane to Behesht Barin where everything is much much better, and without doubt one of the finest Iranian restaurants in London. The final straw was that at the end of the evening, each guest was slapped with a 26 pound per head bill, which for all of us was an extremely expensive evening for a poor effort.I will not be returning to this restaurant, nor do I recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Really fresh and tasty food. The cuisine is similar to Turkish or Lebanese cooking, with a few Azerbaijan twists thrown in. The bread is gorgeous and the ice cream out of this world. Service was a little slow but not so bad that it ruined the evening. The dishes were explained to us and the waiter also made some recommendations of his own.Highly recommended.

The staff are excellent, the service is superb and the food is superb in it's quality. We found abundance of choice on the various Azerbaijan and Persian menus. Loved starters. Fresh hot bread with special cheese and butter, great salads, tasty various types of rices, kebabs etc. Got there at 7pm, left after midnight. Great Live music = Lots of dancing! We enjoyed it so much, so decided to come here every month. We have been to many Persian restaurants, but this one is the Best!!! and you get two in one (Azerbaijan and Persian Cuisine)

I was wrongly expecting a Persian/Turkish type restaurant with saffron chickens and huge piles of rice - and while this is also an option, I didn't expect Azerbaijani food to taste so completely different to anything else I've ever had. Much like trying Japanese or Thai for the first time, the flavours are strong and unique - and utterly delicious. I can fully recommend to start: the Azerbaijani special (a roasted aubergine dish with lamb, spices, local cheeses) and the oat soup - which I expected to be fairly tasteless and filling. How wrong was I? It was one of the most fragrant and delicious soups I have tried since a Tom Yum. The mains were equally impressive, my koresh fesenjan was unlike any other dish I've ever tasted and is a dish which will keep me going back again and again. Service was impeccable, you usually only receive service as well executed as that in very expensive restaurants - and the decor made you feel like you were in someone's living room, making the experience even more enjoyable. The atmosphere is something which adds to the experience; huge persian families and young children, some dancing to the persian music which is supplied on a Friday and Saturday evening (although, they really should tell you that they will charge you £5 per head as cover for the music). There is a realy sense of being a part of someone's else's culture in here, twinned with brilliant food and wonderful service. Don't expect the wine to be great though - drinking isn't really this part of the world's forté.

Visited this store on a Friday evening with the family after convincing the families to take the 40 mins drive down to wafflemeister rather than visiting another “creams” or “treatz” Got to the place at 9:15pm and was refused service as they said they were closed! I kindly explained to them that their own website says 10pm for pretty much all their stores in London and they was told by the lady that they close at 9pm and spend the hour cleaning. Very disappointed in the service and extremely disappointed in not being able to get waffles for the family! Definitely lost out on some cash and some loyal customers!
