This company went out of business approximately 8 weeks ago. We paid in full for a dinner for 2 and a deposit for another 2 for our friends Christmas present. We travelled from Leicester to Birmingham only to find out this information by talking to another company who have bought their boat but don't have any details of any bookings. Bad enough to lose such a large amount of money but even worse not to be told so that we turned up there. Please be warned if you have a booking with them

We turned up at appointed time and place as stated in their initial email and waited in vain. Did not respond to email sent on 22nd May, no website (domain inactive), tel number goes to voicemail. This company messed me around for weeks while I tried too book for my mums 60th birthday, we agreed the private charter at just shy of £500 plus £35 per person for 9 adults and they let us down and stated someone else booked the date and time. Very dissatisfied with their service and communication was very poor from the start! Ignored calls and did not return them! Do not book with this company!

No Rum onboard!! Very disappointed. As Returning customers this experience was a complete let down and no where near close to expectations. The presentation was nothing like the pictorial representation as the advertised via their web site Our first experience with Away2Dine back in September 2018 was for a three-hour cruise with a Sunday Roast dinner. Far better value and more enjoyable On a plus note, although there were only eight passengers on this trip, the waitress was very attentive.

My husband and I enjoyed a traditional Sunday lunch onboard which was a thank you from our son and daughter in law for our support in the run up to their recent wedding. This lunch was great fun, relaxing and a very memorable event. The crew were very personable and accommodating. The food was fine and the generous amount of custard on my delicious apple crumble was much appreciated. It was great to see so many families out enjoying the wonderful canal side places of interest, restaurants and watering holes.

It was a bit of dream come true to embark on this canal cruise and dining experience. I never booked before as I always imagined it to be slightly damp and possibly rushed- how wrong I was! We were collected from the bottom of the stairs at Brindley Place (where there is clear signage) by their extremely friendly and welcoming crew. We were made to feel special and even more so when we saw the freshly renovated and elegantly designed canal boat certainly done to the highest standards. After being greeted by the smart and polite hostess/server we had the safety announcements and informed commentary. The food ordering was efficient and relaxed and nothing was too much trouble (I had a pair of young fussy eaters in tow) and the options for an amazing Sunday lunch covered all bases and tastes. I would describe this as a fine dining experience with a cruise added to it which is an excellent combination and would recommend this to be worthy of special celebrations as well as high life or aspirational living. It certainly was magical for my kids and they have been telling everyone how amazing an experience it was for them. The food came like clockwork and honestly was up there with some of the best food I’ve ever eaten with high quality ingredients and generous portions and filling as a Sunday lunch should be. The chef certainly has mastered the techniques and it was beautifully presented. A most wonderful and memorable three course meal. Despite the freezing weather the boat was warm and the snow provided some beautiful sight seeing and picture perfect moments. The cruise on the canal far exceeded my expectations as it went as a Birmingham University (Selly Oak) and an opportunity to hop there for a leg stretch and a chance to take in the beauty of the canals. This area is particularly well kept and is comparable to Leamington Spa or Stratford upon Avon. I think after covid and lockdowns we have a new appreciation for the local and beautiful spots we have closer to home and the canals should be enjoyed as the best energy is found in nature in my opinion and what a glorious way to enjoy it. It has a restorative effect on my well-being. The best part of this cruise was that I got see parts of the canal system that are not accessible by foot and that combined with fine dining makes this a truly unique experience. I wouldn’t hesitate to book again.

I must admit I wasn't sure how you can fit a restaurant on a narrow boat. It's a little bit awkward to board the boat, but it is bright & pleasant once you are in.We were given a 3 hour cruise around the canals of Birmingham, whilst we ate a three course meal. The food was traditional British Fair. We started with an excellent carrot & red pepper soup, followed by a very good roast beef dinner, & finished with again a very nice chocolate tart for myself, & a hearty pear crumble & custard for my wife.No significant complaints about the food, it was top notch, and they didnt scrimp on the portions either.I cant complain too much on the dinning area. Its a little compact, but not uncomfortable. Having said that though, if you're in a wheels chair, or on the "rotund" side I think you will struggle. This is even more true of the toilets. You have to contort you're body into a very odd shape to fit into the cubicle. Think of having a loo under you're stairs at home. Again if you're disabled or on the large side I would doubt you could get in let alone shut the door. The loo wasn't very clean either (I'd guess because some men could find it hard to "Shoot straight" whilst they are twisting and bending to get into the loo) & the seat was broken. Nothing worse than having to use an "Iffy" loo whilst in a restaurant IMHO. The other thing I'd have to mention is well Birmingham city canals aren't somewhere you would want to go on a tour. For three hours all you really see are a bunch of derelict buildings, Graffiti, and a few ducks & geese. It would work so much better with a bigger boat on a nicer part of the canal (& there are plenty of nice bits, such as Alvachurch for instance).

A Sunday lunch had been bought for us as a present. Arriving in time for the midday sailing, we were shown to our nicely laid table. Due to the limitations of a six feet wide vessel the dining tables and space is somewhat limited. The cruise initially heads towards Edgbaston Reservoir then back to Brindley Place and Gas Street Basin and on to Edgbaston where there is a short break - useful for the smokers!Quality of food was excellent, with ample portions. Main courses were served on hot plates - a definite plus!An excellent way of having a different Sunday dinner.

I am surprised at some of the, admittedly very few, negative comments on here. This is an amazing way to spend a Saturday evening with excellent food, all the more amazing bearing in mind it's cooked in kitchen little bigger than a broom cupboard. It's a narrow boat so space is at a premium but there is no claustrophobic feel at all - so what if salt and pepper is not on the table as a matter of routine, you only have to ask and it arrives almost immediately. The staff are all very friendly - including the boss Gill, who seems to come in for some unfair criticism on here. OK she is not gushy and "in your face" but that suits me fine - engage her in conversation and she is friendly and chatty. It's clear she cares very much about the service provided and she should be proud of what is provided. There is contrasting scenery and some of the voyage is through derelict areas but that is part of the history of the city and rather than moan about eyesores I was more intrigued in knowing what "stories" the shells of the buildings could tell. The "commentary" is indeed on fact-sheets in the menu but, for me, that is preferable to a live commentary on a dinner cruise. If I'm having dinner with someone I want to talk to them not listen to a continuous commentary or, heaven forbid, a commentary from someone who thinks they're a comedian. For us is was a brilliant evening out, well worth the money and even the drinks were reasonably priced. I would definitely do the trip again and would not hesitate recommending it to anyone else.

Me and my partner booked this trip before we came to Birmingham over the phone and we are so glad we did! Our hosts were so friendly on this lovely, relaxing 3 hour cruise with a delicious 3 course lunch and it was the perfect way to relax on a Sunday afternoon! The roast beef dinner was absolutely perfect, proper home cooked fare and we really couldn't fault it. The only trouble that we had was that we were so full when they made the scheduled stop at a lovely scenic spot that we didn't want to leave the barge! Anything we asked for that wasn't in view was promptly provided such as salt and pepper (obviously table space is a premium) all you have to do is ask and it's there, even when I asked for mint sauce with my beef, no problem. You can tell that they have been doing this for many years, everything was timed to perfection and ran like clockwork. We found it excellent value for money, a 3 hour cruise and a 3 course meal with coffee and chocolate mints afterwards for less than £50 each I don't think you can go wrong and we would highly recommend it.

Dreadful out of date music.no atmosphere.waitress had no personality.when.the cheese board came it was so unappetising.oh and the bill was 460 pds!!!. We could have dined in sheer luxury for less. Thanks for spoiling what was meant to be a celebration

This was booked as a surprise for a friend of the family and didn't know what to expect but we were all really delighted when the boat arrived and all the tables were laid out beautifully.it was a 5 course meal which was well presented and cooked lovely with a good choice and also variety on the drinks menu too. Most enjoyable for everyone and also to see Birmingham from the water gives a totally different perspective on the city.

We were a party of 4 on a birthday dinner and we wanted to do something different. The boat was very nicely equipped for drinks and Sunday dinner and the numbers are limited so service is on the ball. The tour lasted 3 hours and took us around some very nice and some not so nice places but all of it was very interesting if you have not seen this from a boat. We did not expect to see herds of wildebeest but we did expect to see the good and the bad of working canals. The food was good and we found the portions large including the extra Yorkies and gravy. Drinks were extra but at decent prices compared to the pubs we sailed by.

I thought that this would be a nice 24th anniversary present for my wife and we weren't disappointed. Boarding the boat at The Water's Edge in Brindley Place you are taken on a 3 hour canal journey. My wife has a wheat allergy so I asked if this could be taken into account when I booked a few weeks prior and I was assured that there would be options available. This was indeed the case as my wife could have had just about any if the dishes with the exception of two I think. The food was excellent. It was a great way to spend the evening with people waving at us as we chugged around the busy waterways.

This was booked for my husband and I as a surprise for Christmas . This meant that we could book at our convenience any time up till the end of June. The Away 2 dine barge was on time the ambiance was lovely and the owner was also on board ensuring that all was as it should be, from the starter to the coffee I could not fault or the service and even the bar prices were no more than you would expect on the waterside bars. The food was served while we had a three hour trip around Birmingham canals and what a treat it was. I have no problem recommending this delightful experience.CRUISING ROUTEA slow tranquil three hour cruise that includes part of the forgotten original canal that arrived in 1769, situated partly on the industrial heritage sections of the Birmingham Canals. Contrasting with the city centre and a visit to a rural setting, proving that lots of the city is green.

Food was better than expected and the wine was lovely. Didn't realise you could use a taste card and save 50% which was annoying. Also couldn't see much as the windows just reflected the inside back (went at night).

Booked for Valentine's Day. Cruise was OK with captain scraping the sides of the canal at times. Expensive but expected cost but not for quality of food. Found that my taste are was valid for 50% only after visit to my annoyance. Staff were rude (apart from the captain) and spent more time trying to hide in kitchen than attending to customers.

Fantastic Sunday afternoon. Sun was shining as we boarded. Met by Gill and her team. Salmon and prawn starter and a soup. Salmon and a chicken main, followed by crumble and a lemon mousse then coffee. Really great food and service, 2 bottles of Pinot £16 each. Cannot fault anything about it - had to smile though, one of the diners commented on the small loo- course it's small it's a narrow boat! Seriously though well worth a visit, great food and service and the experience of the canal was brilliant

A very pleasant way to spend 3 hours on a Sunday. A choice of dishes across a 3 course menu plus coffee whilst sailing through the canals of Birmingham. I had the chicken in a wine and mushroom sauce which was delicious. Amazingly the food is all cooked on board - you get the chance to meet the chef at the half way turnaround point. There is one larger table at the stern end of the boat which takes a bigger group, but if that is booked prepare to be split across tables if there are more than 4 people in your party.

I had bought my husband a gift voucher for the Away to Dine for his birthday. We were originally supposed to go in June but I was taken ill and unable to go. My husband rang to tell them & they very kindly re arranged the date for us, no bother at all. We walked to Brindley Place and got on the boat with helpful smiling staff showing us our table. We set off at a leisurely pace, with a drink in hand to see the surroundings. Other people have complained about the view & the route taken, but I was more than happy to see remnants of our industrial heritage. Graffiti abounds but you can see that anywhere. The great bars , restaurants etc alalong Brindley Place more than makes up for the derelict buildings. Surely we need to be reminded of how bad the canal basin was at one stage before it was all rebuilt? The meal was fantastic, all freshly cooked to order. I didn't fancy any of the desserts so they kindly gave me a beautiful bowl of mixed fruit to have instead. Finishing with a cheese board, coffee & mints this was a wonderful way to have a meal. All the Staff were very friendly & helpful & I will have no hesitation in telling family & friends how good it was.

Managed to get last minute booking for Sunday lunch. Boat was full and the waiting staff were excellent. The stater and desserts were very good but for us the main course of roast beef was disappointing as beef was well done and Yorkshires were underdone. Great atmosphere and it was lovely to watch the scenery go by as we ate our lunch. Three hours well spent.

I mistakenly marked as helpful a poor review when seeking an 'unhelpful' button. To complain about scenery that is neglected, buildings covered in graffiti, and floating rubbish reminds me of the woman in Fawlty Towers who complained that the view was not adequate. "What we're you expecting? Wildebeest sweeping across the plain?" The canal tour is through a faded industrial giant. There is greenery. Some wildfowl. And a leisurely progress with accompanying easy listening music that is very relaxing. The staff were very helpful. We had the Sunday roast on a 5pm cruise. Both beef and chicken were tasty. Awaiting desert and coffee. Now the crunch. Value for money? We used Tesco deal tokens. £25 for 2 plus say £15 drinks. Effectively the price of an average meal with free trip along the canal. Very satisfied.

Booked the boat trip Sunday Lunch for the two of us as a surprise for my wife who is not normally keen on this type of meal.Bright sunny day, narrow boat clean and tidy, tables laid out well with an inviting view.inside and out. Orders taken as we started, and food arrived to suit our slow journey round Birmingham City centre canals. All courses very hot and tasty. Main courses came out a few at a time to suit the kitchen staff doing the cooking, no previously prepared food put out all at once.Trip round the old canals interesting, and details of the areas was in the menu or available on line before the trip. A short stay at Edgbaston to stretch our legs after the meal.Something different, and all went as planned, even my wife enjoyed it, especially the meal!

The canal cruise of murky water, local pollution of rubbish of various types & debris, excessive graffiti, derelict & semi-demolished remains of buildings, homeless people, uninhabitable areas did not excite, simulate or entertain us.The advertised guided tour was not an knowledgable "guide" providing historical data as we cruised along the water but written information attatched within the menu folder. The owner Gill (I think) in my opinion, was brusque, terse & showed contempt. The food was nothing very special as I was led to believe it would be, the whole experience fell below my heightened expectations having read all the reviews prior to our reservation. It was the most barbaric evening we have ever spent causing all of us to be traumatised from the 3 hours of visual bombardment of deprivation, filth, poverty and the food it certainly was not entertaining, pleasurable or recommendable.

We booked this as a Father's Day treat and were really looking forward to it. The barge itself was impressive. However, the food really was disappointing and really let it down. There were no salt and pepper pots on the tables, guests had to ask for it and when it came they were pretty much empty. The starter of melon and prawns with a chili and lemon dressing was bland and the main course of salmon was very over-cooked!

The home cooked food was excellent, hot and nicely presented.Service was good from start to finish.Drinks are reasonably priced with a good selection. My friend has walking difficulties but was given help getting on and off the boat and there was room for her wheel chair to be stowed away for the duration of the cruise which meant she could enjoy an experience that maybe would not have been thought possible. If there are four of you, I would suggest trying to book The Captains Table which is at the front of the boat but all table have large windows which give a good view.

Had another amazing night here. Always a great crowd and the acts are bang on. You wanna see Erasure? Here's the absolute best nearest thing. You wanna see Oasis? Here are a bunch of talented lads that give you that and lot more (guitarist and lead singer smash it and massive props to the drummer - always overlooked but this guy was mint!). My ultimate respect goes to the amazing bar staff who are so understanding, patient and efficient. Give these guys a pay rise! Top service under much pressure. Shout out to to Terry and to he who is known as Big Black Ball (he says it's not a condition but personally I think he should get it looked at). 5 stars all the way!

I’ve never been more excited and thoroughly pleased to try fish and chips. There isn’t any takeaway that safely offers Gluten Free in Quinton or around Harborne. This place was recommended to us, they safely offer Gluten Free with a separate fryer and even cooks it right in-front of you, and it’s fresh to order! It costs only £10 for GF small fish and chips, and it certainly isn’t small either! The chips were soft and crispy, plenty of salt, the fish batter was actually CRISPY and the fish itself was flakey, soft and juicy. My husband isn’t GF but he ordered it too and said it’s absolutely delicious! This will now become our regular fish and chip shop, thank you for catering to coeliac disease so safely. You should put signs outside offering GF, or advertise it as i’m sure even more people would flock here. Thank you to the staff🩷
