Went for the Christmas dinner on their static carriages next to the station. Arrived and we're seated in the lovely carriage with Christmas music playing and snow (fake but lovely) drifting past the window. We are a diverse family with one who will eat anything, two vegetarians and a vegetarian with celiac, so getting the menu sorted had taken a bit of negotiation. But on the day the food was fantastic, the staff were wonderful and friendly and helped create a lovely atmosphere. Overall it was the perfect start to our Christmas weekend and we can't wait to go back next year. I think we've found a new Christmas tradition!

Used to come here a lot and food was always really good and value for money. Sorry to say that lately it’s gone down hill. The food today was horrible. We ended up leaving most of it. To be perfectly honest, how it was allowed to be served is beyond me. It was swimming in grease …,. and the mushrooms….. !! totally inedible. I’ve been a few times lately and not been impressed, but today was the last time I will order food. I’ll just stick to a cup of tea in future!

If you like traditional food served in a static buffet car, this is the place to come. Excellent menu with old classics like ham, egg and chips and jacket potatos plus plenty of options for veggies too. And there be cakes here. Well priced and served by jovial staff. We will return.

Service is slightly chaotic and always has been; I guess it's part of the charm of a cafe run by volunteers. This time there was the added element of customers deciding to disregard the required, and very clearly marked, distancing measures. The staff may be disorganised but they are very friendly and helpful - and make a good, big cup of tea! The homemade chocolate cake tasted like it was surplus material from repairing railway carriages. Talking of which, the outdoor eating area is about 3 metres from where engineers are repairing a carriage, and under the same tent. The consequence is that customers end up breathing the acrylic body filler dust from where it is being sanded down. Not pleasant.

Visited here this afternoon with my 2 year old son. Had a toasted sandwich and bought a kids picnic box which I think was expensive. £5.50 which was a small cheese sandwich, raisins, carton of juice and multipack crisps. My toastie was nice, nicely presented etc although I did order brown bread and was given white. Sat outside on a picnic bench watching the trains which my son loved. They could do with getting some proper highchairs rather than the booster seats that are scattered about which can't be secured properly to the bench so lunch became a balancing act! Would come back, certainly for an ice cream.

I was bought up in the area so I’ve seen this Station since I was a child. It’s a great day out for families, even in bad weather. The experience of a ride on the traditional steam trains is brilliant. I can’t recommend it enough, there’s a cafe and a local playground. If you fancy something different then you won’t be disappointed.

Had a very nice lunch here last week. Food was good. Staff very friendly. Food nicely presented. However, after a walk along the path following the railway track we came back for a drink. I asked for earl grey tea. When I was asked by the server, who was miserable and didn’t say much, if I wanted the teabag left in I assumed (mistakenly!) that it would be too strong in the teapot for my liking. So I replied that I’d like the teabag removed. Then I was asked if I wanted milk. I said yes expecting a tray with a teapot and small jug of milk. What a surprise I had when I was handed a heavy ‘builders mug’ with a very weak milky liquid! It was pretty disgusting, I had just a few sips. What’s happened here? It was only in April that I had the same tea very nicely presented on a tray with a pretty cup and saucer. Not sure about returning.

I visited Avon Valley Railway during the Easter holidays as steam trains were running that week. Before my train ride I dined in their cafe which is open on most days, regardless of train services. The food prep/ordering area is in a platform building and the indoor dining places are in an adjacent railway carriage. There are also plenty of seats outside, most of them protected from the rain by the platform awning.I arrived just before peak time (11:30) so there was no queue, I was served quickly - they use a numbering system and the food is bought to your table. The menu should have something for everyone - all traditional English Fare and at reasonable prices. I ordered sausages with chips and a cappuccino, cost £8.50. The food and drink were perfectly OK.A few warnings however - this cafe is of course on the Mangotsfield/Bath cycle path which follows the old Midland (S&D) rail line so is very popular with cyclists. If you are lycra-adverse then this is not the place for you. Also I noticed that the queue was stretching out of the door about an hour after I dined when passing the station again on my rail journey - so patience may well be needed at busy times. Also note that although the cafe closes at 4 p.m. they stop serving hot food at 2:30 p.m.

Met family here for breakfast. We sat in one of the carriages and 2 members of staff spoke to us. When we went to order and said where we were sitting we were very rudely told that we could only sit in that carriage if we had booked breakfast! Why did the previous members of staff not say. We had a members with us with mobility issues so we had to then move across to the other carriage at great effort. At no point during our time eating did anyone ever go into the other carriage. No sign on the door that states this and not once did the 2 members of staff who saw us in there say anything. They were so rude when we placed the order that totalled over £38. I will never go here to eat again!,,

Viaje decepcionante.

He has dementia but however he is on that particular day he always remarks on the sausage and chips being the best, which is lovely. The staff are always really helpful carrying the tray to the table etc and make you feel very welcome. Chris in the car park always helps to find me a good space to park. The added bonus of the steam trains is great and its very easy to get on and off with a wheelchair.

Time 4 Carers had a table for 24 for the roast lunch in the Rose carriage and we received great personal service and as one member of our group said, " The best roast they had ever had", We had a choice of pork, chicken and beef and the meat was tender and of high quality. We all had a good sized yorkshire pudding, but not overwhelming as we all had the smaller portion. 2 large crispy roast potatoes cooked to perfection, fresh cabbage, chantenay carrots and peas. Extra gravy was brought to the table before we had even asked for any! We could not fault a thing and it was only £6.50 per head! Thank you for a superb lunch and we will back again!

My elderly father likes simply cooked food and steam trains so it's a good place to take him for lunch followed by a walk along the cycle track and we visit about once a month. You can eat in one of two static old train carriages, Rose is a bit smarter and has waitress service if you pre book on a Sunday. Or you can sit outside under the gazebo and watch the trains come in and out of the station. The food itself is simple fayre like jacket potatoes, fish and chips, baps and chips, ham sandwiches etc but its always been consistently good and the portions are generous. The only thing which can be a bit irritating is the parents who let their children run up and down the carriages so a few signs would help to discourage this.

It's a shame that there wasn't a cup for the lovely gravy because there was so much.Home made apple pie and custard and a rather good gateaux and coffee to finish. Ok this is not fine dining, it basically a café at the heritage railway site. You can sit outside and watch the trains go by, you can sit outside under a large tent, and watch the trains go by or you can eats inside in one of the two old railway carriages that form the main part of the buffet. It serves a good wide selection of food to suit most taste. We like popping down for breakfast or brunch as they have a nice range from sausage/bacon baps, normal breakfasts, veggie breakfast and great big “Belly Buster” breakfast to suit the whole family. As other have noted, the quality of the products is not high-end, but it is acceptable, quickly cooked and not badly priced. I live near Bitton and as a disabled person who uses a scooter to get around, I find the walk along the cycle path to the station very pretty and relaxing. As you near the station the old trains come into sight and there seems something new to look at every time. The Bitton railway station still stands and is quite nostalgic to look around it. In the Spring time till Autumn they run Steam Trains along the tracks, which is great. Also there is a cafe/ restaurant that does food and drinks.

The belly buster breakfast is good value by comparison to their traditional breakfast but the quality of the ingredients is average. The bacon was a little too fatty and the sausages are low quality. There's no frills, simple paper table cloths that fall off easily and a slightly longer wait than you might expect. The children's jacket potatoes were good value and massive. The place is always well staffed by charming people who obviously want you to come back, and they make every effort to change their offerings and add to the menu on a frequent basis. Oh that larger more expensive eateries had their imagination and desire to please their customers. They were serving "home cooked" Sunday lunches yesterday, with the vegetables served separately as you would expect of a more expensive venue.I was really impressed and judging by the number of satisfied customers, I wasn't alone!Well Done!

We have just been for the Sunday lunch. The service was somewhat lacking. The roast dinners weren't up to scratch. We like el dente, but the broccoli could have been used in a brick wall. The roast potatoes were obviously just reheated, rubbery on the outside, and dry in the middle. The beef was very chewy and was very difficult to cut. My husband had the pork, and it was really nice. I'm not sure if it was just a bad day, but I certainly won't be eating there again.

Big fan of Bills in general and often pop in for brunch when in London for work. Visited the Bath branch during a weekend away with my partner, and have to say it didn’t disappoint.
