Excellent chips, best we've tasted for a long while Tasty fish Dire batter on the fish, much too thick and soggy next to the fish

We didn’t fancy eating in anywhere, fancied fish n chips outside. First one we came across. It was lovely. Nothing not to like. Great cod, good chips, great price.

So much choice we ordered a variety of food. pizza and doner meat, fish,chips. very Big portions and very fresh. Only takes cash, cash point just up the road. Nice and friendly staff.

Worst fish supper ever! Batter was uncooked, very greasy and sooo thick, was inedible! Had to peel it off, yuch! The white you see in the photos is not fish it's uncooked batter! Aneamic chips too, £30 down the drain. Drive on by!

Dropped in for Fish, Chips and Fish-cakes and was pleasantly surprised by the volume, quality and service. Well done to the cooks! The only downside is that you can only pay by cash, and the nearby ATM / Cash Machine is not free (despite what it says), in fact it is very, very expensive to withdraw cash … so advise not to do this as the total charges/fees came to more than the fish!! There are some fixed tables and chairs along the foreshore (around the corner from the fish & chip shop) so very pleasant to picnic while watching the tide change.

No real competition in Avoch for fish and chips. Having said that food was good. Best to order ahead for collection as orders stack up quickly. Cash only.

fish and chips were to order, had to wait 30 minutes.Chips were soggy and under cooked, also included black heads.Fish (allegedly haddock) had far too much batter, in fact not a lot of fish, just a lot of batter.I would recommend that customers should avoid these premises until they get their act together

A classic fish and chips experience. We were rapidly served with fish, chips and mushy peas. On returning to our rented bungalow, the food was still hot. The fish was tasty in crisp batter, the chips were great and the mushy peas unctuous

Chips were obviously reheated & the fish was awful. Even the seagulls wouldn’t eat it. Would not recommend.

We live relatively locally and use Harbour Chippy lots. We choose to jump in the car and travel here instead of using a chippy within walking distance, due to the high standard here. Without fail the food is excellent and the service is efficient and friendly. There is a great range of food from fish and chips, to kebabs, to pizzas. The portion sizes are generous and the food is cooked fresh to order. There’s also a good choice of ice cream... great for keeping the kids happy!Phoning your order in ahead is a good idea, as it is extremely popular. Looking to finish a fantastic day at the beach... pop in here on your way home. You wont be disappointed.

What an amazing team. Very friendly and efficient staff. The fish n chips are delicious’ So are the potato fritters. Just phoned in my order and collected at the door all covid compliant.

Very definitely not the best fish and chips. I've tried the Harbour a few times now and it is a disappointment. Chips don't seem fresh and the batter on the fish soggy and doughy.

Staff looked very bored and were pretty intimidating, talk down to you and the food was below average.

In the area on holiday. This Chip Shop offers a wide range of pizza, kebabs, burgers and of course fish and chips... nicely cooked decent value and fresh served by pleasant staff... worth a go.

Haddock cooked to order was pretty good, chip portion big enough to share and the curry sauce was delicious. Would recommend.

The service was not great with bored staff and the food itself was disappointing. We saw the staff using a microwave in front of us. The food was dripping in oil and it made us slightly sick afterwards.

I've been there twice, both times fish was dry as a bone, chips were cold when we arrived home in 10 mins. And cash only . Staff wasn't friendly, speaking down on me. Never again, wouldn't recommend at all

Irresponsible. Went to order and was told they ONLY ACCEPT CASH - During a pandemic? Really?! Disgusting. If they can be that selfish with protecting their staff then imagine what they do with the food!

We had been eyeing this place up every time we drove past and on our last evening we stopped. I am glad we did as it was the best fish and chips I have had in a long time! We parked at the harbour and enjoyed the view and the fish.

Pretty much stumbled across Harbour when my husband decided he needed to stop off at the toilet! I then decided we would have dinner on the benches by the beach (very good location) and popped into Harbour to order.They only take cash, so bare that in mind, but they were happy for me to order and come back with the cash from the car.We both got the haggis supper (battered haggis + chips), mushy peas and gravy. Everything was perfect! Haggis was creamy on the inside and batter was lovely and crunchy; the chips were freshly cooked and the peas and gravy were an excellent addition. Would definitely pop in again if we’re going past!

Sorry but our Local has bigger portions at a better price but admittedly better than another Local up the road

Had fish and chips on a Sunday lunchtime, which is the only day it opens for lunch. Glad to see that the hot cabinet was empty and not leftovers from the previous day, which we have experienced in other places when arriving just after opening. The fish was fantastic - flaky and the batter crisp on the outside and soft on the inside - best I have ever had.. As it was freshly battered and fried as I waited, I was very surprised that it was not oily. Had hoped to sit by the harbour on the picnic benched but it was a little too breezy so we sat in the car overlooking the sea and harbour. The meals were served in polystyrene boxes which made it easier to eat in the car. Traditional wooden chip forks and plastic pie forks were available, but for the better experience, we took our own metal forks and ….. a bottle of ketchup - proper fine dining !!!. Good choice of other options shown on their website and telephone orders are welcomed. Will definitely go again .... and again.

This is easily the best fish and chip shop on the Black Isle. We've tried them all. There is no contest. The staff are very friendly, polite and helpful. The place ( no pun intended) is immaculate and the food is cooked to perfection whether it be kebabs, pizzas or suppers. The chips are the best I’ve tasted in a long long time. Always a great chippy. I have never had a bad experience yet. Even after inhaling vast amounts of helium I cannot speak highly enough of this chip shop. Don’t bother going anywhere else.

I phoned in an order. Breaded and battered fish suppers and scampi. All were cooked just right. Very tasty and good portions. New management who are very friendly. Young staff who work hard and are learning so be nice to them. The place can be very busy so phoning in is a good idea. Definitely be back.

We ended up going there after being out on a random drive the service we received was awful we asked if they took card which they don’t so we went to the cash point and came back we stood waiting and someone came in clearly a local and she got to order straight away even though we had been waiting before she came in then the staff just turned round and carried on ignoring us I eventually said to one of the girls can we place our order she said ok like she couldn’t really be bothered luckily the food when it was ready was amazing that’s the only thing positive about this place I seriously think they need to work on customer service because that really does let them down

Twice now i have ordered from the chippy in the past months, and both times ive been served by horrible staff. First was the young woman with pink hair and glasses, i ordered at 5 to 10 at night and was told, "we are closing soon, be here in 10 mins at the latest" in a harsh tone. When i arrived i, despite there being at least 4 other customers waiting the young woman pointed at me and said, "you know not to order this late!". Im sorry but you are advertising that the food is sold until half 10 at night. Perhaps you should change your last call orders.The second is the older woman, Gemma. I phoned in a simpld order recently of Chips, Curry Sauce and Cheese and a Can of juice. I was made to repeat it multiple times, although this may have been myself not pronouncung my words properly? Anyway, when i arrived to collect, The young woman who is also new was serving me while Gemma collected the order together, i asked if i could forget the can before they put it on the till, to which Gemma stopped, stared at me and rolled her eyes and said "suit yourself". This has left a bad taste in my mouth and i dont plan on returning soon. This is upsetting as i have visited this establishment many many times as ive lived in avoch for a long time.

We were staying locally on holiday & didn't want to cook so tried this popular chippy. We enjoyed our meals so much we went back for a second go! Fish very fresh & they do a brilliant vegeburger supper. Would heartily recommend.

The chip shop is situated in Avoch near the harbour. Tried lots of different things and eating my way through the menu.

Was looking for a good fish and chips shop in Inverness and couldn’t find one. So we decided to go for a short drive and my god it was worth the drive.

We came here on the back of all the good reviews! we were not disappointed...The fish was cooked fresh and the chips were fab along with the mushy peas...we are staying at the caravan and camping club site at rosemarkie and glad we drove the 5mins along the road to avoch. friendly staff and great food. keep it up guys. outstanding!

The most delicious fish and chips we’ve had for a long time . The batter was light and crisp and cooked just right , the chips were grease free and lovely, with no bits and to top it all the large portion of mushy peas were to die for . Thank you Harbour Fish and Chips for our excellent supper

Bought fish and chips for lunch on Sunday and ate them on the picnic tables by the harbour - was just picturesque! Went on a boat tour after too.

Pepperoni pizza n chips, all freshly cooked and devoured with relish! I would recommend this chippy. Couldnt find a menu on line though, so had to decide on the spot.

Passing through Avoch we saw queues outside the chipper. Always a good sign. We stopped and my wife joined the queue. 10 minutes later my wife and I were sitting at the nearby harbour enjoying a sausage supper. The sausage was very tasty as were the chips although I felt they could have benefitted from a wee while longer in the fryer. My wife did not agree so clearly we have different tastes. No complaints, though, the supper was freshly cooked and was piping hot. The queue gave testimony to the popularity of this chipper.

Food is amazing, Donner kebabs are amazing, aswell as their homemade coleslaw. Chicken kebabs are good aswell as fish, calamari and everything else. Highly recommend and very well priced. Best chip shop in the fortrose - avoch area. Well worth a visit. Telephone orders advised on weekends when especially busy, but not a problem if you don't mind waiting. Everything cooked fresh to order. 5* service and lovely staff.

We had the fish n chips from here and also breaded scallops. Well everything was absolutely gorgeous. It’s all freshly cooked to order and really lovely food. Coming from Yorkshire that is praise indeed I can assure you.

We had a takeaway haddock supper. It was fish and chips of the highest quality. Freshly cooked and very tasty.

Dropped in for a quick meal as I was in a rush. The wee lassie behind the counter was eating chewing gum as she took my order - not a nice look. I ordered a donner kebab and this arrived fairly quickly. I paid and left. When I got round to eating the kebab a couple of minutes later I was disappointed to find the meat only lukewarm and the kebab awash with sauce but, unlike before, there was no fork or even a napkin provided. The pitta bread was a little dry and fell apart with the runny sauce making my expected feast even more difficult to eat.

popped in last night for our tea and oh what a treat, everything cooked to order, well worth the short wait, the haddock in batter was spot on and the chips so yummy, my husband who is allergic to fish had the kebab i asked for a large............this kebab was the mother of all kebabs and LARGE is an understatement. suffice to say, one happy husband! the staff were so friendly and also laughed at the size of the kebab (i think they thought it was for me and wondered how a petit woman was going to attack that monster) all in all, well worth a visit, thank you Harbour fish and chips.

Fish n chips, sausage supper, single scampi portion. Ordered haddock with breadcrumbs got soggy batter instead covering a fish that was maybe fresh 5 years ago. Better was awful, really awful. Chips just about passed muster but that fish was dreadful. Won't visit again.

This is our local chippy (I'm in Fortrose) it's by far the best in the area. Prices are spot on. Food is lovely especially the pizzas Staff are nice and pleasant.

Sind hier auf dem Rückweg von Fortrose auf ein schnelles Mittagessen eingekehrt. Das Essen ist o.k., aber nichts besonderes. Wird alles frisch gemacht, aber die besten Fish&Chips; Schottlands bekommt man hier nicht (Die gibts in Edinburgh und Ullapool).

So every other calazone I've eaten was a bread version of a Cornish pasty.

Tasty, well prepared food with a good selection and decent portion sizes. We love to drive round to chanonry point car park and eat ours in the car while watching for dolphins

we took our grandchildren here for a treat yesterday, heard good things about it as it is under new management. Obviously did not have their oil to optimum temperature as the chips were pale and soggy, as was the fish in batter. The childrens chicken was very chewy (thought we would be better with fillets, rather than nuggets)They need to up their game if they wish to survive, bad news travels faster. The staff were lovely and friendly, no problems there.

Great takeaway, clean, and staff helpful. Fish and chips good as well. Cooked as you wait for freshness. Dutch family in when we waited, and the staff tried their best with the language problems.

The chips were under cooked, they were anaemic in colour and hard. The batter was disgusting; soggy, undercooked and pale. The oil used had a weird taste.

Ate fish and chips here this week. Avoch has few places to eat, mostly takeaways. Harbour Fish and chips is a friendly takeaway offering a wide range of food. Kebabs, pizzas, burgers and a pretty decent Haddock and chips. Service was pretty quick but the staff said that the wait at weekends can be 20 mins, which is pretty normal for a busy chippy. Prices are pretty good.

Nach unseren Ausflug nach Rosemarkie und den Delfinen haben wir in Avoch Halt gemacht. Der Laden hat nur eine Sorte Fisch (Haddock) und verschiedene Größen Chips. Sonst Döner und Pizza. Fisch wird frisch paniert und hat ziemlich viel Panade, aber lecker. Chips waren leider nicht sehr knusprig. Im Laden gibt es keine Sitzmöglichkeiten. Da es sehr windig war, blieb nur das Auto. Wenigstens mit Blick auf das Meer. Bei schönen Wetter kann man sicherlich sein Essen dort genießen.

Called into this chippy on Thursday,first impressions, its clean...so I stood their and was not asked what I wanted so waited...eventually I asked if I could make an order...which I did, soggy batter on the fish, we ate the fish but could not face the batter - pale chips. We will not return to this chippy and will not be recommending it to anybody. Waste of money.

6 of us visited here when we were staying in Tomintoul and wanted to visit Avoch as I used to stay here as a child. we had fish suppers and ate them on the tables at the water front and it was great. It's always a bit hit and miss with chippys but thankfully this one didn't disappoint. Fish was great and chips we great too.

Had a donner meat and chips from the Harbour Chippy - excellent. Very friendly service and a good size portion. I wasn't sure if I wanted chilli or garlic sauce so I was given both - tasted very good indeed. Recommended - best in the area by far.

Visiting the chip shop tonight for first time and must say I was really impressed I usually only use jaki the other chippy local but went in for a kebab and 2 kids meals and I will be back again the chicken kebab was one of the best I’ve had the 2 kids meals were excellent too fast service lovely staff and the man behind the counter kindly gave my LG a drink for free while waiting for a taxi in the rain he chatted away only chippy I will use now 5*

Well this has to be one of the best chippies I’ve been to. Lovely fish in a light batter and plenty of chips. The curry sauce looked a bit small but it tasted so good you didn’t need much.

We called here on a busy Saturday evening. There were lots of customers, and lots of food going out of the door. We had fish and chips, and shared a curry sauce tub. The batter was superb, and the fish was very fresh. The curry sauce was also very good indeed. Would highly recommend.

We stopped here after visiting Channonry point to see the dolphins. Been many years ago and it was really good. However, this time the batter was soggy although the fish was delicious, chips and onion rings were average and the mushy peas were more like pea soup. Didn't finish our meal even though we were starving. Really disappointed

Was on a day out and about decided to stop in by here on way back got parked at harbour bit and two min walk to chippy ordered food and had about a 10 minute wait as this is a busy wee place, price was excellent but wow food was lovely I had fish and chips massive portion my husband had a kebab and it was so tasty and my son had double sausage and chips portions are great , it was all delicious to we sat on benches just at harbour and enjoyed the views and our chippy will def be visiting again

1st time in the chippy and it had a lovely selection of home made coleslaw and other salads. Ordered a kebab and a double cheese and coleslaw and wow it was amazing! Coleslaw was delicious as well. Will definitely be back ! :)

We stopped at this chippy on a whim on the way back from a woodland walk. I'm really glad we did. The owner was really friendly and even though he wasn't open yet took our order and let us know when it was ready. Fish was well cooked and obviously fresh the chips were well seasoned and crunchy. My daughter is three and a bit fussy and she wolfed it down so thumbs up from us. Hoping to visit again before we go home.

Following a run around the Black Isle, stopped at this chippie in Avoch. Chips uncooked and Battered Fish full of grease. Being in a village known for its fishing history this place is really poor.

We had been put off this take away because it looks so garish and out of place, we thought it spoiled the village. After reading the reviews however we decided to give it a go and were pleasantly surprised. Perhaps we shouldn't judge a book by it's cover!

This takeaway serves the best Fish & Chips I ever had. Strongly recommend to drop in and savour them on the benches on a nearby beach. One of the best Scottish experiences.

The lovely lads behind the counter were of great help to me when ordering gluten free due to my condition, especially the cheery young lad working on the till. The food was wonderful, the services sublime, the facilities were outstanding but most of all, the owner of the Chip shop was a gem. Not one moment his smile left his face, polite and generally a delight to encounter. I thank you deeply, for a meal which i shall not forget, for a meal which i shall come back for again.

the atmosphere was lovely right from when i went in. a happy and excited atmosphere with very sociable staff. a couple young gentlemen who were obviously all friends with the workers were also lovely and welcoming. if i didn't come for the food, id come for the company. the food was incredible!!! i asked for a large fish supper and they definitely delivered! incredible value for money! was overall a great experience and a great find. also, i brought in a number of chocolate treats and burdened them with the issue of battering them for my children. luckily for me they were more than happy to help and were extraordinary help!

All tired after working on the house all day, so no cooking and down to the chippy. Great fresh haddock in a crisp light batter and dry crisp chips. Well done Avoch chippy!

When ordering a fish supper (the correct Scots term for fish or anything else and chips) I have never before been asked how hungry I was. I answered "fairly", not wishing to seem greedy.The chef went to the fridge and pulled out a large haddock fillet. It was so long it didn't fit in the box and I was charged the standard price. Not sure how big the "Large fish" for a pound or so more would be!The chips were fresh too and my only criticism being the meal was slightly greasy. The fish could have done with resting in the hot tray for a minute or so to drain some of the oil off.Notwithstanding it was welcome and I was able to dine out in the Avoch (pronounced Auch) Community Garden a short distance away, overlooking the Firth as the sun went down.

Saw chippy open. And Sunday. Got fish chips twice. Asked if anywhere to park camper. He said straight away. Use the back of my house overlooking Moray firth. Fish excellent. Try it on way to see the dolphins at Fortrose

I can honestly say these fish n chips with mushy peas we ate this evening 24/09/16 are the BEST we have had in a long while. None of this meal was greasey, chips where perfectly cooked and chunky the fish was lush (and a lot of it!) the batter light and crispy cannot fault it. I'm sure we will be back to sample some more whilst we are holidaying here, before we have to head home to Norfolk. Excellent service too. Thank you

Je ne suis pas fan du fish and chips mais je n'ai pas regretté celui-la: des calmars tout frais, délicieux, et des frites faites avec de vraies pommes de terre fraîches (non surgelées). Mais surtout, les tables en bois avec vue sur la mer!!!

We went to Avoch chippy while staying in Rosemarkie. We chose it over the Fortrose chippy as Avoch appeared to have better reviews. I don't know if they were having an off but the food was poor - stodgy and greasy chips, flaccid fish and cheap, basic fishcakes. Fortrose chippy turned out to be far better - go there instead if you have the choice.

Imagine my delight to find a chippy that serves gluten free fish , sausages and other products. Not only that, but the fish and chips were delicious!

Absolutely delicious Chip shop and great value for money. Fish and chicken burgers are my favorites. Very friendly staff and great quick service. Ice cream is also amazing. Always so kind to my little boy :) we are local and use this chip shop very often.

A good portion of very fresh fish and chips. In good weather you can eat on picnic benches next to the chippy and look out on the firth.
