Aviary in Islington

Went for bottomless brunch, got sat down at our table and we had no idea how the bottomless worked and it took the waiters 5 times to come to us to explain. Two of the three waiters we had were quite rude to us and were shocked that two of us didn’t want to drink. The food was okay but definitely not worth £45 and definitely not for a vegan, and £85 for bottomless with drinks. And we also had to google the price as it also took the waiters 3 times to answer us. There were some hot dishes you had to order and that portions were tiny and then a cold self serve with rather stale and not worth it to stand up every time to get food for such fine place.

Amazing place, we had a great experience. The food and drinks were on point. We would to say thanks to Rafael as his service was amazing. Extraordináry. Thanks for making our business celebration a memorable one. X

We had breakfast here every morning during our week long stay at the Montcalm. The staff's professionalism and warm demeanor created such a welcoming atmosphere which enhanced our overall experience at the hotel. They remembered to make me my special American coffee every day. Don't forget to go to the rooftop breakfast when you are at the Montcalm!

Excellent restaurant with beautiful views across London. A varied menu for all, I had the Atlantic cod which was absolutely delicious, my husband had the chicken. Good size portions. We added the greens beans with goats cheese and a cream cabbage, both very tasty. Attentive staff. Breakfast was buffet style with the usual cheeses, meats, fruits, cereal and a menu with a selection of cooked options from full English to Avocado & eggs. Great choices, excellent service, especially from Maria, who couldn’t do enough for us. Very helpful and made us feel really welcome. Highly recommend and will definitely visit again.

What a terrible embarrassing experience. My friend and I went for birthday dinner. I was ashamed and embarrassed for my friend to see that we were given the worst table in a corner next to the staircase cramped by a wall, even though the restaurant was empty. We were the only customers. My friend had a bouget which any 5 star establishment would have the courtesy to at least offer a jar with water to put the flowers on the table since we spent nearly £250 on a birthday dinner for two without deserts. She had to stuff the flowers behind her seat. Not great! The staff couldn’t care less. There was no care or courtesy despite the occasion. Food was terrible, service was terrible and the managers response to the feedback shocking. On telling the manager that it would’ve been nice if there was some courtesy at least to have a jar with water if not a vase (not a big deal for a 5 star establishment) he explained in a long-winded email response (haven’t read it as he lost me when I looked at the size of the email) , his response was that they “don’t offer jars for flowers” and most venues don’t offer either. What planet is he on? This is not about what you “offer” but about courtesy for a special occasion, which by the way was not recognised at all despite what we spent and despite the empty restaurant! Terrible experience and waste of money!

We visited the aviary rooftop garden restaurant and had a rooftop pod at our disposal. The reception was great and the pod was comfortable. A lot of drinks choices but limited food, but not bad. We had oysters for our starters but there were pieces of shell in mine with a few, unfortunate. For our main we wanted to really go all out and order a ribeye for 90 pounds each. Unfortunately this was a letdown for this kind of money. I've been to restaurants where I've had a better prepared ribeye for a lot less. We had a cheese platter as desert which was nice but nothing special. Our host was serving all pods so he was running around like crazy but he tried the best he could. At a specific moment he told us they were closing down the rooftop and if we wanted to continue with drinks we could go inside. Then 10 minutes our bill was delivered so it was clear they wanted us to go. We paid and went inside hoping to drink a nice cocktail before leaving. The waiter was nice but we ordered two cocktails. Unfortunately the worst we ever drank. We unfortunately had to complain about them and didn't want a new one after that experience. We went home paying around 350 pounds and feeling disappointed and overspending. Although the view and pods are nice. Do not go here, spend your money elsewhere

We been at Aviary on Saturday for brunch Myself with 5 of My friends and we had an amazing time , the food was soo soo good like I never had it before it was just magical , those salads were just yummy for the 2hours that I been there bite after bite it feel soo fresh and delicious , when it come to order the eggs, lobster, pancakes and waffles with chiken and beef,it just make Me love this Restaurant and it will be My favorite , the service from Maria and her time was the best service in London , she is the real deal on the Restaurant, I have seen that she was maken everyone feel welcome and she was the one who was recommending us difrent and difrent meals, and she guide Me through the drinks pareing with food, whatever Maria was going and saying around to other customers she was doing just perfect she was maken sure we have the best time on Her Restaurant, such a service you can call it a good Restaurant. Well done to Maria and Her team . We will defenly come back soon and we would love to be served by Maria .

The food was very good however only 1 vegetarian choice which would be an issue if you were nut or dairy intolerant. Good wine and good service. Ambience was terrible, non stop house music which was tedious, boring, repetative and intrusive. A few of our party have hearing/APD issues which will make conversations difficult this is acceptable at a gig - we go to many but this is not acceptable in a restaurant. Had it not been for the music the rating would have been higher Fortunately London has many restaurants where the food, wine and service is equal or better as we will not return.

I won't come back and stay at this hotel just for the hospitality provided by Maria and her team. I was here on a business trip and by the second morning, Maria was meeting me at the door and placing my coffee order with the barista without even asking me for it. Absolutely the best service I've received on a work trip in my whole life. Highly recommended.

Terrific breakfast and service from Maria and crew. Food was hot and tasty, and the team was attentive and quick to assist. I ate here each morning of the week, and was pleased with the experience each time.

When I booked our table I told them it was for a birthday dinner and my notes were clear also in the confirmation email. So they were aware. My only request was a table with a nice view, as that was the point in choosing this rooftop restaurant. I was surprised to be seated in a corner next to the staircase, which I thought was the worst table despite the empty restaurant. Also, I had to stuff my bouquet behind my seat as the only two customers in the restaurant were seated next to our table and my flowers were in the way on the banquette. I would expect that a 5 star establishment has the courtesy or common sense to offer at least a jar, to keep the flowers in fresh water during our dinner. Not a single word of acknowledgement of my birthday all evening, and this wasn’t even an expectation but as we were leaving I saw the waitress bring a plate with a couple of burning candles to another table which was both embarrassing and disappointing for me. The bill was over £200 without deserts, as the waiter rushed us out to the balcony while we were still dining. I asked if we could have a couple of cocktails outside and they were keen to get us out there quickly and get it all put of the way. Overall poor experience, and although the staff were friendly there was little genuine care so I would not spend in this restaurant again. Apart from the beautiful view from the terrace, and the bill, nothing else was great.

We had booked for a lunch but the day before we were contacted to say it was only brunch for the time we had booked . A real drama however it was resolved We had the 3 course lunch menu and it was very good . Great staff and atmosphere and setting

This spot is highly overrated. First of all the choice of menu is minimal. Especially for the kids. Then a waiter is constantly asking questions so it is hard to have a normal conversation. Thirdly the light is poor so you can hardly read the menu.

This was a disgrace we booked an igloo for our anniversary breakfast. When we arrived we were told that the igloos only opened for lunch even though we had email confirmation. To top it off the hostess was so rude we walked out and left. Disgusting

Not good at all. The staff were rushing about like they were under pressure which didn’t put us at ease. The Christmas meal was less than inspiring. Weren’t quite sure what the veg was?!? Terrible, cheap pigs in blankets - two small ones. The Turkey was tasty enough but overall for the price, poor. Avoid. The view at least was decent from the roof top.

I was invited to a special "Christmas meal" with friends at the Aviary and I must say the food served was the most un Christmasy, warm, dull, plain Christmas meal I've ever had. It tasted as if the meals had been prepared in the morning and had been waiting around all day so it was ready for the evening. What a rip off.

My friends and I booked an igloo on the rooftop as a pre Christmas get together. The service was good, and views lovely, however, the food was awful. We had to send our meals back as they were inedible, salmon tasting and smelling awful, cod overdone, pork belly not crispy, and tough, soup cold, cabbage served in a big congealed mess, portions small. For the price it was a complete “rip off “. The laugh is one of my friends’ booked online, and they wanted us to pay for all of our meals upfront!!! We decided to go a la carte when we arrived, and the menu was not that different. Will not return, and would defo. not recommend.

Marie is an absolutely amazing host! She absolutely made our day extra special and really looked after us! We will definitely be coming back. 🥰

The rooftop and venue was beautiful and very quirky. The colourful decor and design makes it a very “ Instagram” worthy venue for sure. The food was tasty and delicious. The cocktails were tasty and I would say that the quality of the food and cocktails was pretty great too. If you are looking for a little bit of a quirky colourful venue for drinks or a catch up while in London, this place is pretty good for that. Would be awesome to go back when the weather is warmer to take full advantage of the rooftop for sure.

We have always been big fans of the ETM brand for many years, and have been regulars at The Aviary. We felt that our last few recent visits hadn't been to the standard we expected, but after our weekend visit, they are definitely back on track. We stayed over at the Mont Calm, and had breakfast in The Aviary. 100% the best breakfast we have had there, both in customer service delivery and the quality of the food. We ordered from the A La Carte rather than the buffet and it was superb. Having said that, we did dip into the buffet to have meats, cheeses, fruits and salmon, and it was clear the food was great quality. The new breakfast Manager, Maria, is very hands on and demonstrated her excessive knowledge in the Industry....a very welcomed addition to the team. As it was an unexpected glorious day we decided to stay the day. We negotiated one of the new pods and spent the day drinking cocktails served by Louis. He made me one of his own takes on a rum punch, deliciously garnished with nutmeg, which we named "meet me in St Louis". The pods and the ambience of the rooftop is a winner, certainly the best they have had to date.....it really does feel christmasy and Laplandesque - clearly a lot of investment has been released to get to this standard. We stayed for a late lunch and had the lamb and the cod from the A La Carte menu. Superbly cooked and once again the quality of the meat and fish was clear. I get the impression who ever is responsible for F&B is sourcing top notch supplies reflected on what is delivered on the plate. Thank you to Florin, Head Chef, for the great food and also your time to speak with us. As ever a big shout out to Robert (Papi) & Dwayne who looked after us on the Saturday night. Also a big thanks to the Manager, Justina. She works extremely hard, is very engaging and clearly cares passionately about service delivery and the ETM brand.....another good find by ETM resourcing. Based on this visit, and based on the current Team, who after all make the experience, we will be booking for a winters night in one of the pods. Well done ETM for getting back to where we know you should be.

Aviary cancelled our sons 18th birthday dinner at 10 days notice, knowing they had a book out for a month which they say had not been finalised. Our trip to London for 3 nights was centred around this night with friends as we’re coming down from Edinburgh. They then offered an alternative venue which has 25% 1 star reviews and a glass of Prosecco, which the senior sales manager admitted she wouldn’t book herself due to “serious operational issues” - though she did offer free private room hire and without credit card security which we had already given for our booking at £10 a head. They then offered a game restaurant and a sports pub. Exceptionally poor service, cynical and cavalier attitude - won’t surprise me if they charge us for not accepting the venue change such was the experience !!!!

Lovely rooftop bar and restaurant but the food was decidedly underwhelming in choice, portion size and flavour. The drinks were good but the service was pretty rubbish. All in all not good value for money.

We went to Aviary for a late lunch. A glass of champagne at the terrace with a fantastic skyline view. We had a three corse lunch, fried burrata with cherry tomatoes for a start, a lovely halibut for main course and a heavenly chocolate mousse/ brownie for dessert. All dishes came with perfect wine pearings, recomended by our professional and friendly waitress Andrea.
