Our 2nd visit in November was as good as the first. Welcoming, very French, food extremely good, staff charming and helpful ( usual boring IBS stuff- a bit stunned at no onions or garlic ( fair enough in a French restaurant) but coped really well) wine and brandy v drinkable and ( from last visit) v professional pre-SadlersWells:-). If you are in Islington/clerkenwell, or going to the ballet, or just fancy good, high standard, simple French food, early evening, a good place to go:) BUT our third visit, AFTER a night at the ballet, was a disaster. We had booked, but arrived to find the door locked and were told by an apologetic young woman that her manager had left an hour ago saying there were no further bookings. We were stunned, both at the inefficiency, and at the idea they would close at 10 on a Friday night near buzzy Angel. So I am afraid for a post theatre dinner I can't recommend it, though, unless something has gone badly wrong, it is probably still good for pre-theatre supper.

We came to Miz en Bouche for an early pre-theater diner. On the positive side, the service was friendly, the decor cozy and food was served quickly. We arrived at 6pm and were out at 7:15 without rushing. Now the food was the let down. My Lamb chops were overcooked and my wife's seabass was lacking seasoning and pretty blend. The creme brullee was tasteless and the sugar top was too hard. The tarte tatin was just an apple tart... pretty lazy. All in all very uninspired cooking. There are better places around.

Good position for Sadlers Wells, and full at 6 pm. The owner was kept quite busy serving and taking orders, but was very efficient and we were able to eat 3 courses from the good set menu and finish in time for 7.30. The food was quite good, but my seafood salad starter had far too much oily dressing, and the tasty seabass was also sitting in a pool of oil. If these issues could be sorted, everything would have been fine. Carafe of white wine was good, and tarte tatin for pudding delicious. Would go back.

Our experience was the same as the review below - I had the duck too. It was pink, as the charming waitress warned me, but it tasted tough and as if it had been kept warm or reheated (though it wouldn't have been pink if this was the case), it was very dry. Not £15's worth. The escargots would have been delicious, lots of garlic, parsley & butter - only much too salty. The beetroot and avocado salad on the set menu was delicious, as were all the drinks - apple, elderflower & mint juice and freshly squeezed orange. The others all had chicken on the set menu, which seemed good value, but again it was very dry, as if it had been kept warm or re-heated. Not good value at all.The french customers next to us had items from the breakfast menu which looked scrummy - will try that next time!

Booked here pre Sadlers Wells as looked quaint with reasonable reviews and French. Simple decor, acceptable light levels. Simple menu and set 3 course for £20. I love Duck and chose this as French restaurant with Dauphinois potatoes. £15.50. Was advised it would come pink. Perfect I thought. The meat was tough, grisly and had that 'old' smell about it. I politely requested the waiter ask the Chef if this was in date. I was told the BBD was 2 weeks??? (For meat...interesting) The waiter apologised and asked if I'd like it replaced. I declined. The wine was fine Malbec. £31. Although the table next to us complained of cork in their glass. My partners Sea Bass (of the day) was Ok she said. The creme brûlée was okSo it was just....OK and for that standard, I would say overpriced. There was an annoying chap behind us on his laptop (owner or something) which kept what's app ringing and was visually distracting to my partner. The only thing good was Yousef the waiter. He's wasted there. All in all - go somewhere else pre theatre if you don't want to start off the evening irritated.

Just 2 minutes walk from Saddlers Wells and selected through a search using Taste Card, although they would not accept the card for pre theatre dining (even if from the main menu). However, that didn't stop us booking and we had an excellent meal in a lovely atmosphere. They were short staff on the night so we missed out on having a desert as we ran out of time waiting, but we were 'umming & ahhing anyway, so that was a decider. Being short of staff due to illness in a small independent eatery is just one of those things and the staff available were attentive and patient. Although we waited almost an hour between starters and mains, the food was excellent and worth waiting for. 2 of us had what was listed as Rack of lamb, which is only available for 2 people. We were expecting a rack, but it was actually just 8 lamb chops although meaty and tasty and served with super sautéed potatoes. Our friends both had Duck breasts which were enormous and perfectly cooked, so we were all pleased with the meal. Overall, a bit disappointed at the service levels but we were in a friendly place with a nice atmosphere and good food, so would definitely go back again.

We were recommended to visit this restaurant before going to Sadler's Wells. It was certainly very convenient. That's the good news! We chose from the fixed price menu. The soup was good. The gravadlax 'salad' was the tiniest amount of salmon you've ever seen with a mountain of green leaves covered in a really mustardy and vinegary dressing which I couldn't eat. I then had the stuffed pepper which unfortunately came with the same salad, so they took the greenery away and replaced it with an even bigger mountain of leaves and the awful dressing on the side! Dauphinoise potatoes were cold. My friends had the fish which wasn't cooked. Let's just say, we won't be returning. Slightly argumentative staff who said the fish was cooked as it had been in the oven!

For a meal of that price my partner and I were disappointed that there was only a half a small tomatoe each and one portobello mushroom each and enough potatoes for a reasonable portion for only one. Why stint on the vegetables? We commented to the waitress about the potatoes in particular and another dish was brought piping hot to our table shortly after, which we just assumed had been the restaurant's gesture to correct the situation, but we were actually charged and had little interest in having an argument about it. French onion soup (what else!) was rich in flavour only let down by being served slightly too cool for my taste though this did not spoil my enjoyment. Entrecôte steaks followed, the 2 medium steaks were cooked to perfection but the one ordered well done was rather bloody and was sent back for further cooking, the undercooked steak was collected and cooking corrected without fuss by the attentive waitress. This Restuarant deserves to be busier given the quality of the food and general ambiance and I would certainly eat here again if in the area

Excellent little French bistro, feels very French. We've been twice and has been good both times. You can tell the two owners love what they do and take pride in their restaurant. (It has been quiet both times and I think that helped - I'm not sure what it would be like if ti was very busy.) The entrecote steak is a good choice and has been done exactly as ordered both times. (There isn't a lot of variety but what they do, they do it well). The chocolate fondant though is something else, and I would go back just for that - it's not a cheap dessert but it's made for you on the spot and it's amazing!

Good location next to the Sadler Wells theatre. Had a Sunday brunch with some friends there. Amazing value for money: one main and bottomless prosecco for £16. They could have been a bit more forthcoming with the alcohol, but hey ho. Would definitely go again, and would recommend to others.

This French bistro is the real deal. I can only recommend the steak and chips because although I've now been several times it's always been so good my guest and I have always had it. (Great steak and chips cooked in some very delicious fat.)You can get wine by the carafe, too - always a bonus. And, of course, if you have a tastecard, it moves into the "good on a budget" category.

We had tickets to a matinee performance at Sadlers Wells and I booked this restaurant based on reviews, proximity to the theatre and most importantly availability. We had left it late so we were pleased to get a table for four. The restaurant is small and unprepossessing from the outside but is very cosy and welcoming. Rustic board tables and green banquette seating, a small bar at the front and kitchen out back. Every available space is utilised. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The menu was excellent with several fish, meat and vegetarian choices. Gluten free is also available. Everything was very fresh. In all a very pleasant meal, nice ambience and great service. I had a lovely cosmopolitan cocktail too. I haven't given 5 stars as pre dinner drinks were a bit slow to arrive and the Hendricks had no cucumber and the Gordon's no lemon. Otherwise excellent.

Champagne brunch with a rustic full breakfast and an Angus beef burger was the perfect way to start our Sunday. This quaint and charming French bistro is minutes away from the busy streets of Angel, ideal if you want a quiet meal. We were greeted by the barman/barista who also seemed to be running the floor. Effortlessly I might add despite busting a sweat. We came across the place via a groupon, and having reservations about the service and food - as often these are disregarded in such heavily discounted offers, we were treated very well and I couldn't fault the food despite our ordering choices being simple, it was delicious and our server/barista/barman/host was gent! Be sure to order the fries they come separate but they're hand cut from fresh potatoes! Simple but delicious.

Miz en Bouche is a great small french restaurant worth for a romantic dinner, a peaceful moment away from the London hectic lifestyle, or a visit to the Saddler Well's Despite being a small venue, the service, the food, the drinks are impeccable. They are also good value so this french bistro will not break the bank. We will be back.

Our first visit to a small, warm, welcoming restaurant serving classical french bistro food, along with a good wine selection, all at reasonable prices. Nice ambience thanks to friendly, helpful staff who, when they found out that we were going to Sadler's Wells afterwards, told us of a short cut to get there. We will definitely put Miz En Bouche on our list of places to go back to

I am not French, but my girlfriend is and she told she felt like home in this little restaurant 5 minutes walk from Angel station. The atmosphere was quite romantic, low lights and very famous French Music in the background, very discreet place that really relaxes you.The food was really good, the starters a bit overpriced but the main are tasty and in decent portions. The desserts were quite disappointing, especially the caramel ice cream was almost uneatable; I'd still give 4 stars as it was a great experience and would definitely come back.

We find this small French restaurant very useful after Sadlers Wells (modern dance often ends reasonably early). We are always made welcome even if they are very near closing time. The food is French bistro style and good value even if a little unimaginative. Ditto the wines. It fulfils its role very nicely.

We went here due to its convenience for the nearby Sadlers's Wells. On the positive side they do a reasonable value 3 course which is available at all times, bread is provided without extra charge and they have a good selection of wine which can be purchased by the 50cl carafe. My partner had the chicken on the set menu, which she was happy with and came with a tasty jus. I unwisely opted at the last minute for the steak tartar. This appeared to have been confected with the use of tomato ketchup - confirmed by the waitress - and was without doubt one of the worse things that has ever been put on a plate in front of me, and I had school dinners during the 50s and 60s. Definitely 'mit en poubelle'.To be fair it was replaced without question though it took a good while to get the taste out of my mouth. I had a piece of bacon and cheese tart instead which was bland and probably bought in.The creme brulee my wife had for desert was very good, so will give 3 due to this and the other positive points mentioned above. The place is popular so is clearly doing something right.

Had an early evening dinner at Miz en Bouche before the theatre and although they serve a very good valued pre-theatre menu, we opted for the a la carte. Staff were very welcoming and service was excellent throughout and they took into account our timescale for the theatre. Food is not fine dining, but is excellent and good value. Wine list caters for all tastes ( and budgets ) with a good choice and although we chose one of the cheaper options, it did not disappoint and was good value for a restaurant. Greatly enjoyed and will visit again. Not perhaps an obvious location, but very close to several popular areas, so worth seeking if you do not know the area.

This was our second visit to Miz en Bouche before attending the Ballet at Saddlers Wells. Arrived just after 5.30 and after a small mix up with the table I had booked was quickly rectified ( I now know the table number to ask for ) Service was quick and attentive even though this is a busy little Restaurant. We had a starter each, one of a selection of cold meats , all of which were tasty and one of Chicken Livers, which was declared to be lovely, but large enough to be a main Course. Our main courses were Seared Tuna which was found to a little too oily but very flavoursome, and I had the Lamb Shank in Ratatouille ! OMG ! it was HUGE and gorgeous. Fell off the bone and was one of the best I have tasted. I should never have had a starter . Absolutely no room for desert , and after a rest and a coffee, we were able to walk comfortably to the Theatre in good time for the start of the performance. Lovely friendly staff, who really are there to help.-------------- after our first visit, I gave 4 stars, this time it's a 5 , and we shall be back for sure.

we had high hopes when we saw this nice looking little restaurant close to Saddlers Wells. The wine we ordered was excellent. We ordered something from their set menu .... my partner had chicken with fries.... Not only did it look terrible...it was greasy and oversalted. I had a pan fried fish with vegetables... and the same... totally oversalted and dripping of oil. And in the background french chansons.... are they supposed to better the food? Followed by the fish I had the Creme Brûlée which was very average. Go have a glass of wine at this place and listen to their French music, but don't eat there. My tummy was not happy :-((

We needed somewhere to eat before Sadler's Wells. This place came up and looked interesting. Typical French menu in a tiny venue. Friendly crew. Good food. The lamb shank and ratatouille seems to have its fans, but the meat could have been a bit more "falling off the bone". Then again, it isn't an easy dish to service up at short notice. Nice sautéed chicken livers. Confit duck also went down well.Small but inexpensive wine list, with enough options to match the food. (£25 for a sparkler?) French of course. Nice to see a Gamay on there.Check the vegetable store, it shows how small the kitchen must be. All in all, a nice place that should bring in the locals as regulars. Almost good enough to get me into dance.

We enjoyed dinner here before going to Sadlers Wells (just around the corner). We were given a very friendly welcome and the service throughout was first class. The food was very tasty and the portions generous. My only comment on what could be better is that some of the seats don't have backs - they're more like benches - which could be a problem for some people. I'm sure we'll be back.

This small cosy bistro is welcoming and friendly. We were three hungry diners meeting up after work & events and opted for the specials. It boded well with fresh seasonal soup and calamaris, followed by a fish bouillabaisse main course. The latter, although tasty was disappointingly small and starter size and although we ate every drop, we mentioned this to our host, who could not do anything about it and the kitchen did not add anything to our quarter of one small fillet of seabass! We remained hungry and had to order a portion of chips. Slightly disappointing, though over all tasty and good cocktails. Plenty of other options is the area for pre-theatre dining.
