Really good lunch, the waiters Andre and Erick gave us really good service, and the chef was very obliging when we wanted to change a pasta sauce, highly recomend

Very bad service ! Not child friendly . Came here with my small kids and my grandmother, We had a long journey from Cambridge and was really tired and also hungry. A lady which was a staff member was so rude and very upset over kids in restaurant . Manager was speaking about us to he’s staff members in he’s own language.Gave us cold food which was ready in 5 minutes talked about us in Italian among there self . We got are mains before starters had to remind them we haven’t had starters yet , Go to another Italian avoid this place there are lots of other nice places to go, with lovely staff

Party of twenty for a retirement dinner.The children were made very welcome as it is in Italy .The food was excellent as was the service and hospitality shown to us.Would highly recommended a visit. Thank you all at the Averna for making our evening one to remember. The flowers were a kind thought.

Terrible booking system. I booked a table for two for Saturday evening. I received a booking confirmation at 08:58. At 16:08 I received a text saying that my booking had been cancelled. I called them to clarify and they just laughed.

Myself and my family were staying at the Chessington hotel, however, didn’t fancy the hotel food. We food this restaurant on Trip Advisor and we are glad we did. This is an Italian restaurant. It was around 5 - 10 minute drive from the hotel, there was parking near by which was free after 6pm. The restaurant itself was lovely inside, there was music playing and the lights were dimmed to create a lovely atmosphere. Immediately you could see the staff were brilliant. Friendly, funny, engaging, attentive and there to make sure you had a good experience. My daughters have Italian names (purely because we liked them) The staff immediately picked up on this, and called them by name each time they either passed the table or came to the table. My girls are quite fussy with their food, however, the staff were very accommodating, they only wanted plain pasta with butter, which was no issue at all. My girls and husband had tomato garlic bread and I had carpaccio to start. They said the garlic bread was excellent, obviously very fresh, hot and delicious, as for the carpaccio, I highly recommend this, it was amazing. As mentioned, the girls had pasta, my husband had pizza, he is a veggie, and they again accommodated his request to change some toppings. I had the seabass, and again, it was outstanding. Throughout the meal, the staff couldn’t have done enough, without being over baring while we were eating. Once we had finished eating one of the waiters came and had a chat with us, we’d travelled down from Manchester and we talked about football, he seemed genuinely interested and not just small talk. The bill was very reasonable for what we ordered, we had wine also. When we were leaving, the girls were given a lolly, and I was given a friendly and welcomed “Italian double cheek kiss”. I’m sorry this restaurant is so far away from Manchester, or it would soon become my favourite place to eat!

Love the food here. All home made and individually made. Fresh and not over complicated. We keep coming here.

Their reputation most definitely proceeds itself! Outstanding! We celebrated my daughter’s 10th birthday there and we were not left disappointed. The food was sublime and the service was on par with that too. Great with the kids, they were even taken into the kitchen to help prepare their own desserts which they absolutely loved. We had a family lunch here on Friday, with fourteen adults. The service was very friendly and efficient. The menu is varied and the food was fantastic. I don’t live close but I’ll make sure to revisit.

Best Gluten Free pizza and pasta I’ve ever had outside of Italy. My husband loves the Calzone and it’s huge. The staff are all so friendly and attentive, my husband and I will be back.

Food was lovely …eventually. Was willing to give this place another chance as a friend booked it for a girls’ night and we were really hoping the service may have improved since the last time we went there! But the service still really lets this place down - even when not busy on a Monday night; waiters were unfriendly and had some difficulty understanding the orders. Asked very nicely to just have a smaller half portion of spaghetti with the Milanese with just some vegetables not potatoes instead please to cut the amount of carbs - oh my what a fuss from the surly waiters! Had to explain the request 3 times to 2 different waiters and received a really aggressive & surly response. Still received potatoes in-spite of requesting no potatoes please. Somebody should maybe tell them smiles are free and would be nicer and more welcoming than the scowls they were wearing. What a disappointing experience. A discretionary service charge is automatically added - so we made sure the service charge reflected their stroppy & inefficient service.

After being let at the last minute by another restaurant who had electrical problems, we decided to try Averna for the first time to celebrate my birthday with friends. We had no problem getting a table (Thur) and found the food was amazing, the ambiance was warm and cosy, and the waiters were attentive and even bought out a cake with candle! All in all, it was a great experience. Thank you.

Quite disappointed with the meal. Pasta itself nice, but sauce tasted old and as if cooked in dirty pans. Lacked flavour.

Absolutely the best restaurant in the Esher/Claygate area.Exceptional menu cooked to perfection. The whole atmosphere is based around customer attention and unobtrusive service with all staff making the eating experience an absolute pleasure. so nice to be treated like a special customer.

Lovely place. A lot of parking free parking around. We had few cars so very convenient for s family meeting. Food was delicious. See food and lobster linguine was lovely. Very nice pizza as well. Mario made us feel like at home. Will be back soon.

The last time I visited this restaurant was as a group and I thought it was the right time to go back and have the liver and bacon which is all ways very good. I was not disappointed. With the meal I had a glass of Merlot. As always the staff were very fast and efficient. I would have given it five stars but for the fact that when it is full, the noise level is extremely bad. It really needs some soft furnishings. On the weekend always book as it is extremely popular

Spent new year eve there. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Given a drink to have at midnight and we all went outside for fire works which were very good. Everyone had a large sparkler. Nice touch made the eve. Good food.

I ordered 16 pizzas for a party, they arrived on tme, hot and DELICIOUS!! My party guests laughed at how much pizza I bought, saying I'll be eating pizza for weeks ... THEY ATE IT ALL!! It was sooo good. The team at Averna were polite, helpful and more than accomadating to ensure I got what I wanted!

Usually very Good pizzas, sadly very slow delivery and shockingly rude customer service. As you can see from their response, this is a tamed down version of what I received on the phone before they hung up on me. I suggest the new Fireaway Pizza down the road, just as good pizza and a far superior service.

We had a fantastic meal for 9 here today. Fantastic service and delicious food!

The place was not too busy as, you would expect for a Tuesday evening, but there were a few guests in. We were shown to our table by our host and given the menu. We were given just the right amount of time to decide on our choice. Soon after placing our order some complimentary bread and olive oil was brought out. The host was very attentive, he noticed that my wife wasn't using the olive oil dressing, came over and asked if she would like butter. The portion sizes were very good and the food was delicious (I had the seafood risotto) and reasonably priced. The wine was also very good and there is a good selection to choose from. The other staff were also friendly and we felt very welcome and were looked after very well and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great Italian food. We enjoyed eating here and could find no reason to knock any stars off our rating so we give Restaurant Averna a five star score.

The restaurant was very clean and all the staff wore masks whilst walking around. Currently you do not feel like you are on top of the next table it's nice to have a bit of space.The staff were very helpful and friendly and nothing was a problem. The service was very good and any questions about the food dealt with.It was a Tuesday evening and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed.

Whether eating in (permitted) or getting the food delivered, the whole experience is always unique, yet consistently good, evocative of original Italian meals but with Averna’s personal flair. Just bounced a seafood pizza and seafood risotto with my partner. Top drawer! Get a bottle of Red and add a large prawn or 2:)

I'm not someone who writes reviews but, having had yet another great meal (via takeaway service), I want to highlight the quality of Averna's food and their service. This is one of the few restaurants that my whole family enjoy and we are all looking forward to being visiting Averna again as soon as we are able to enjoy delicious food with their warm hospitality. We absolutely recommend Averna.

A humble restaurant with a fantastic group of staff! Mario and Nick were able to accommodate us last minute for a dinner reservation. We have visited the restaurant several times in the past and impressed with quality of food each time, the service continues to surprise us - regardless of how busy they are; they are happy and bubbly and couldn’t do more for you. Unfortunately I needed to go gluten free 3 months ago and in that time I haven't had great experiences of going out. I was so excited to hear that I could pretty much have anything on the menu, I had prawns to start, as did my hubby and it was wonderful as usual. I then had a gluten free pizza which was amazing, I will definitely try their gluten free pasta next time and of course all of the meat dishes can be ensured to be gluten free. They have someone who is coeliac in the team which gave me the confidence that they knew what they were doing. I also found out that they have a great vegan menu, I'm not vegan myself but thought it might interest others. I asked Mario what desserts were "safe" and he came back with an amazing mango sorbet, served beautifully in a martini glass with fresh fruits. My family had a great night and enjoyed the fresh homemade bread, stunning pastas and desserts. It is absolutely a family favourite of ours and most importantly for me no adverse reactions, they know what they are doing!!

we are regular visitors to the Averna being claygate residents. Whether we go as a family or a couple, they know exactly how to treat us so that we have a fantastic time. the food has never dissappointed and coupled with the true italian warmth from the staff, it is always our first port of call. wonderful place.. keep it up guys!

My wife and I visited Averna to celebrate our wedding anniversary for the first time. The whole evening was excellent. Mario,his daughter and all of their staff were marvellous. They were extremely friendly, helpful and attentive, without being intrusive.The food was lovely and the wine selection exactly what we were hoping for.If you have any concerns about social distancing, no need to worry, there is ample room to manoeuvre around the restaurant without that awkward moment that can happen.I would sincerely recommend Averna to anyone looking for an Italian meal of the highest quality.

Maybe I’ll be hounded out of Claygate for saying so but being over-friendly isn’t what I want from a restaurantbright now. The tables are just where they were & nothing has changed in how the waiters deal with customers or plates. It may be family friendly but taking sticky-fingered kids right into the kitchen to choose their ice cream doesn’t impress me. Add to that the big handshakes for regular customers (no sign of hands then being washed or sanitised) and the owners standing on the doorstep to get close and chat with all the people and dogs they know, I couldn’t wait to leave and I won’t be back again in a hurry.

No wonder the place was empty . They need a lot to learn and learn how to smile and how to serve customers . Absolutely diabolical. The terrible attitude runs through all the staff including the owner .Either that or they have some complex against certain people.Please be aware

So I ordered expecting Italian food...... I was served nothing remotely that any Italian would eat! Bruschetta with loads of parmasan 😱 deep fried calamari which was cooked in a cold fryer as the batter fallen off. If you want real italian food this sadly is nothing remotely like the fantastic foods and flavours you get in Italy! I was told over the phone the cook food that they wouldn’t cook in Italy!!! 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Please for us well travelled educated people you shouldn’t say your an Italian Restaurant! Bitterly disappointed

Absolutely brilliant staff, attentive and really cared about you. The food was amazing specifically the lasagna classica was the best I've ever had. Deserts were good to, tried the tiramisu, banoffee pie and sorbet.

We entered Lockdown in March with one totally reliable highlight each week - a Saturday night delivery from Averna of cold starters and hot pasta and risotto, enjoyed with our own North Italian wine and a Metropolitan Opera broadcast. This has all been so perfect that we are continuing the practice even as Lockdown eases. Averna’s takeaway menu has dramatically expanded and is now very similar to the core restaurant one. The food is quite superb, and the charm and good nature of the management and staff, who have thrown in wine and desserts whenever they have heard that we have a celebration (birthday, son’s engagement), have made the experience special every week. We cannot thank them enough.

Are you menu has changed since the last time we were there on this occasion we had a smoked salmon Tata for the starter followed by the Scottish salmon with crushed potatoes. It would appear I have change the menu slightly away from Italian. We enjoyed these dishes. The Sauvignon blanc is also very palatable.

We have just enjoyed a sensational evening meal, delivered to our door, by the team at Averna, Claygate. We ordered shortly after 17:00, getting straight through to the restaurant and selecting five starters (two cold and three hot) to share. The food arrived fast, 35 minutes later, in separate cardboard packs, with the hot food at a perfect temperature (we put it straight into our naff but useful hostess trolley while we ate the cold food). We drank our own wine - a favourite from northern Italy (Vorberg Pinot Bianco/Weissburgunder). All really delicious. We shall definitely repeat this during the corona crisis, and send our heartfelt thanks to all involved in the preparation, serving and delivery of this wonderful Italian food.

It is three years since I last reviewed Averna. I have to say that I think the menu has improved considerably as has the execution of the cooking. Last night I had a mushroom risotto to start and a spaghettini vongole as a main. Both were excellent. The staff have a unique style to their service-some might say that it is typically Italian but it might not be to everyone’s liking.

I came with my family and had king prawns for a starter and a fillet stake and It was the best fillet stakes I’ve ever had! Was absolutely stunning, the service was incredible so friendly and were so funny! Definitely will be back again and highly recommended!!

What a lovely place to eat. The food is stunning and the owners and staff are so friendly. Met with my Brothers for lunch. Outstanding starter (portobello mushroom), Sea Bass (crisp and succulent), and chocolate soil (don’t ask - just enjoy!). A really wonderful eating experience!

What I can tell you about this restaurant is. The food is 7/10 but the customer service makes up for it. Mario is very understanding and deals with and problems like a true restaurateur, rather than a take away

We ended up here on Saturday after going to Claremont gardens in Esher. We had an amazing meal and it really made our weekend. Carpaccio was a Absolutely huge and delicious and the pasta main course was made fresh onsite. We will 100% come back with our friends as this is a top notch Italian in our area

Had a great evening, as we always do at this gem of a restaurant. This was a celebration with a a welcome glass of champagne and a yummy 4 course menu. The food was faultless, excellent service even though the restaurant was full of happy customers all waiting for the New Year to arrive. There was singer to entertain, and a finale of a fantastic firework display on the green opposite. The weather was kind and the atmosphere couldn't have been better. I love the food in Averna, its always well cooked and beautifully presented. The team treat the kids like royalty and the staff are genuinely pleased to look after their customers. The specials are always a treat when I visit for an adult evening, but they are just as attentive if we just order a quick pasta on a Saturday afternoon. Such an asset to Claygate.

I’ve been here a few times now, mainly with friends when they’ve suggested it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fine and I would go if friends wanted to go again, But I find it pretty standard as far as Italian restaurants go...... (And I often get a vibe in there that it’s all a little false)
