Very good quality Indian food served in a professional manner. Worth trying the specialist dishes although all the usual curries are available if you want them. The shared starters are also worth having to give a sample of a variety of dishes

Food excellent although a little slow to arrive. Polite staff. Very quiet on a Sunday evening. Perhaps a reflection of prices. Mains around the £15 mark. Went again on a Sunday night to have the “special” menu advertised in the window @£11:95. The staff gave us a normal menu and we had to ask for the “special” which only came out if you asked specifically for it! Still ended up spending £42 on a meal for two from the “special” menu but quality quite good. Do double check if you think you are dining on the special offer menu!

We love this restaurant: the food is divine and the service is always welcoming and friendly. My favourite dish is chicken shashlik. Recommend!

The best tasting food I have Tasted for a very long Time, we were greeted as we entered with a smile, and shown to our Table, The poppadoms were so crisp and light, and the pickles were so fresh, All courses were delicious, hot and so fresh, and could not fault the service, We will certainly be going again, and would recommend this Restaurant to anyone who wants good food and a lovely dining experience.

We made a booking to try out Avatar, as we'd been disappointed when trying another Indian restaurant in Shrewsbury. Safe to say we will carry on booking at Avatar when in town as it was very good quality food, excellent service and a lovely atmosphere. Can't wait to go back 👍😁

One of the best Indian foods we had outside of India. Wonderful cooking skills very kind staff. A must to enjoy if you know indian culinary.

First time at this Restaurant for us. We absolutely loved it! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The service was attentive and efficient. The food was delicately spiced and not overbearing. Not oily or greasy either. We highly recommend this restaurant to dine in or for takeaways. Many other reviews rave about the Momo (Dumplings) starter. We agree. Definitely worth trying.

This restaurant has great food but the night we went it was spoilt for us by a large booking taken which totally ruined the end of the meal. We had booked in advance (not just turned up on spec) and were shown to a table but told there was a large crowd of 25 coming in at 6pm. It was too late for us to go elsewhere by then as we were due to go to a concert at Shrewsbury Abbey and needed to eat beforehand. We managed to get through some of our meal when they turned up. They were seated in tables around us and were very very loud shouting at each other across the restaurant We left choosing to give dessert and coffee a miss. Please note that if you are taking large bookings then they need to be placed away from other small groups. We should have been placed in the other side of the restaurant where is was quieter. Also some places are not really big enough for such large groups. Note to large groups - book a private room...............

Giving it 4 stars because although the food was incredible, we were waiting fot 45 minutes to be seated despite having booked a table in advance. The place was really busy!

It was OK. They were very busy on a Friday night when we visited - perhaps too busy. I had the home style garlic chilli lamb which was nicely hot but lacking in flavour. Not a bad meal and the staff were friendly and efficient, but certainly not the 5 star experience that other reviews imply.

Booked a table for two online and got there and the place was heaving with loads of people waiting on tables. Didn’t bother staying and went over to the Third Place instead. Booking system is clearly not working.

We have always been regulars at this excellent restaurant. It provides the best food in terms of quality and taste, coupled with fantastic service and ambiance. Since they have started serving lunch we now visit at least once a week. At £11.95 for a two course lunch it has to be the best in town as my title suggests. From the set menu we are never disappointed. Superb tastes and delightful service. Highly recommended!

Always top notch food at Avatar, one of my favourite restaurants in Shrewsbury. I previously had the Lamb Shank Rogan Josh which was so tender and so tasty. Great food, great service. If you haven't tried Nepalese cuisine before I strongly advise you give it a try, don't think of it as a curry house, more of it an an asian experience of different tastes. The menu is extensive and we all tried something different and everybody commented how good it was. I had the pork belly starter and colonial style chicken main, what you think might be a standard dish similar to what you have had before... think again, thank you Avatar. Definately worth a try if you like curry but want authentic traditional recipes with flavour at the heart of the dishes rather than something that is just hot for the sake of it. A real assault on the taste buds.

There are three truly exceptional restaurants in Shrewsbury: La Dolce vita for fine dining at its best; Kanu Poke for exceptional vegan food and funky decor; and Avatar - the friendliest place you could ever visit, with astonishing food. We have been coming since it first opened and have tried probably all of the dishes and never been disappointed. Of course the Momo and Venison Rogan remain favourites, and the Biryani is cooked in a pot traditional style (nothing like you will have had in most restaurants). The home style garlic chilli lamb is perfect for those who like some heat. You would be mad to go to any other 'curry house' when Avatar is open - it offers so much more - more taste, more interesting dishes, more fun.

The best restaurant in Shrewsbury ,staff amazing ,food is outstanding ,we have been many times in evening but they now open for lunch which suits us better ,highly recommend if you in Shrewsbury

Fantastic restaurant! It actually look quite bland and ordinary from the outside but don’t be fooled by that - we are the most delicious Asian food!! Staff were very welcoming and friendly - extensive menu - great atmosphere - can’t wait to return and have recommended to all my friends.

Had the most amazing food at the Avatar tonight!! The service was amazing, so polite and professional and also, seeing as it’s Valentine’s Day, everyone was given a rose. Truly an amazing restaurant

We normally visit this Nepalese restaurant in the evenings but noticed that they are now doing a lunchtime special 2 course meal for £11.95 so we called in. The food was amazing ! I would go as far as to say 'the best curry I've ever eaten" We both had a starter, then a curry each and shared a rice and a naan, all cooked to perfection and very tasty. Amazing value, fabulous food, and friendly staff in a pleasant clean restaurant Well recommended, thank you

Fabulous food but anyone with food allergies/dairy intolerance would find it a limited menu. There is disabled access but a tight area to negotiate. Obviously extremely popular. No idea if there is an accessible toilet or how one would get to it.

Forhetvthe idea of greasy Indian or Nepalese food. The ingredients are fresh, the flavours balanced and delicious, and the service right on point. Our first time here, we will be back, probably next week.

Great food, great service highly recommend

It was only upon reading my last review that I realised it’s been over two years since our last visit which is a shame because food wise I still rate it as the best Indian (it’s actually Nepalese-Indian) in Shrewsbury and we have some very good ones. The menu is not your bog-standard Indian although it does contain some ‘favourites’ but the choice is ample, including for vegetarians and pescatarians, and the food is delicious. Do note that the paneer tikka is completely dry, no sauce which caught us out (but it’s massive.) Service was very good too with more than enough staff on what was a very busy, and sadly, loud evening. Conversation levels had to be raised which had the effect of just increasing the noise so ambience wasn’t perfect. However, overall, we really enjoyed our meal here and I vow to return inside two years this time.

We went here for Friday lunch(£10.95)we had poppadoms at an extra cost prawn tempura (£2 extra)samosa chicken balls and a lamb katmando everything was beautiful couldn't fault anything.Staff were lovely and very attentive would definitely go back and would highly recommend to everyone 😀

We called in on a Sunday evening while visiting Shrewsbury overnight. We were greeted by very friendly, polite staff on entering the restaurant. The place was absolutely spotless and well lit. We ordered, poppadoms, starters and balti curries, all of the food was presented beautifully, ample portions and amazing flavours. What a place. Staff were fantastic, polite respectful and a credit their employers. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody visiting Shewsbury. Food was first class, monk fish starter was absolute class, in fact all meals were cooked with love and we really appreciated that. Cheers guys you deserve this feedback. 3 people with mixed meat & non-meat eaters. Salmon with eggplant was superb. Very different to standard Indian restaurant food. Highly recommended by all 3

My partner and I visited Avatar last Friday evening and had the most fabulous meal. We were seated in the window which was lovely and the staff were very friendly and attentive. We shared a plate of Momo to start and followed it with a Chicken Jalfrezi and an on the bone Lamb dish that was the most delightful thing I have ever eaten! My partner has been a few times on work dinners and has enjoyed it every single time which is why he then brought me to also experience how lovely it is. I can't wait to come back with a bigger appetite so I can try more things on the menu! Thanks Avatar, you were fab.

Lovely food and very very reasonably prices. We went on a Monday at 6..00pm but glad we booked. The tables soon filled up.

Visited today to sample the lunchtime special menu. Began with Papadoms and various dips, particularly enjoying the green mint yoghourt. An excellent starter - Minced lamb Kebabs with sauteed onions and pea tops, beautifully displayed. Spicy and delicious. The main course was Kathmandu Style Garlic Chicken, where I could specify the (heat) so I chose medium, again spicy and delicious. The yellow Basmati rice was fluffy and light, complementing the dish all with ample portions. I also added a side dish of spinach again delicious! I had zero alcohol Stella Artois to drink. All in all excellent Kathmandu style food, very enjoyable and tasty.

Great food and worth waiting for, having said that it take a little while before we got our food. It was good though and washed down with a gurka beer.

avatar is always flawless! i honestly cannot recommend this place enough! really good value for money despite being, as google puts it, upmarket! they're also great with my anxiety and autistic issues!

I visited here for an evening meal whilst away for an overnight work trip with some colleagues. It was a midweek night and not very busy. Service was quick, efficient and friendly. I asked about some food that I couldn't see on the menu and they said they could do that too. The food was outstanding - one of the best curries I've had in a long time. Full of flavour and the portion size was just right - not too much to fill you up when you're having a few pints with it I highly recommend this place and will certainly come back again

Well what can i say my wife and I have found our new Indian restaurant to eat in the food was excellent and the service was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. We went there with some friends on a recommendation from some other friends and we all thoroughly enjoyed our selves. We will defo be going there again.

We went for the 2 Couse set menu on a Saturday lunch time, we were not disappointed the food was excellent, service was quick and professional, it was quiet as only 3 other couple's in, but we were made to feel very welcome by the host, we will return.

I was craving for some indian food after work and found this restaurant in google maps. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Even though I didn’t book a table beforehand, they found me a space and took my order without delays. Food was served quick and was tasty. I ordered the chicken biriyani and it was delicious. The presentation was great. If I come back to Shrewsbury, I will definitely eat here again.

Booked a table for last Saturday night as it was my birthday. Having previously enjoyed this restaurant on a regular basis but was very dissappointed after waiting for half an hour and still not shown to a table. Many people waiting causing a problem for people already eating as having to stand down the middle of the restaurant. Whilst we can say the food is great which is why we booked but the overbooking of this popular restaurant is not good management.

I really enjoyed my meal. Great setting and fantastic staff. Everyone looked happy and enjoyed themselves. Food was hot, fresh and tasted great.

We booked this restaurant at short notice one very snowy night in January. When we turned up the place was already filling up. Throughout our stay the staff were super helpful and took time to explain the dishes. They were always on hand when you wanted but give us plenty of space to enjoy the meal. We never once felt unwelcome and the staff were a credit to the business. The food was freshly cooked and served quickly. I have never before been to this type of restaurant, but the food was excellent. Overall this was a great find and I hope to revisit it when I am next in town. Once the summer sets in I can imagine it will be impossible to get a booking.

Good food and drink, but expensive.

Absolutely appalled with my visit. Had my drink spilled by the waiter who was serving us all over my clothes and over mates jacket too. The waiter laughed and brought something over that looked like a pillow case to clean my self up. My trainers are completely soaked and sticky and I’ve had to leave to get dressed as I’m completely soaked. Others in the restaurant laughed and I felt completely embarrassed. There were no mentions of offering a discount or anything complimentary for the inconvenience. My friends and I travelled over 40 miles to visit as we heard very good reviews about this restaurant. The food looked decent, but we had to leave before our food arrived. So I’m giving a 1 star for the poor customer service shown. I shall not be visiting here again.

Christmas Day menu was amazing. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent.

Vegan items on the menu were clearly labeled. We were served by Robin who was excellent and understood what is and isn’t vegan very well, which he explains clearly. One of, if not the best curry I’ve had!

I like to eat here whenever I’m in Shrewsbury. This time I went with the family, one member is vegetarian. As always the menu is great, although limited for a vegetarian and didn’t see anything for a vegan. The food is very good, staff are friendly and attentive. Love the Nepalese flavours. It’s a little pricey but worth paying as I think it’s the best curry in town.
