Traditional unpretentious “boozer” pub. Old school is how I’d describe this place in the most delightful way. Downstairs is the pub with stools & barrel tables making use of space in an almost ad hoc way. Great selection of drinks, non alcoholics, & a plentiful variety of whiskies to sample. Roatayion of sports in the TV and live music on varying nights. A spiral iron staircase take you upstairs to the dining area & the noise of downstairs drops away. Very attentive & friendly staff yet the dining remains relaxed. Traditional decor & food. No frills, nothing fancy which lends itself to great simple meals executed very well. Sunday lunch is very popular so make sure to book! This is the type of place that should be in guide books for visitors to Edinburgh who want tradition through & through.

We had pre-booked and were seated right away. Unfortunately it was so busy in the pub area downstairs and people were sat on the staircase that is was uncomfortable and difficult to get upstairs to our table. We were also seated right next to the servers stand so had no privacy for conversation. The staff themselves were great and the food was good pub grub at a reasonable price for the centre of Edinburgh.

The ambience is great! A great pub! We ate a burger, fish & chips and a salad there. Unfortunately we didn't find the food that good. The fish was very, very soft and far too expensive (20€) and the peas unfortunately tasted very old. My companion Semi liked the meat from the burger. Below was the bar and above was the “restaurant”. I would definitely come back, but only to visit the bar.

Working for a few days in Edinburgh and had lst night to myself. So did my research looking for: - traditional menu (specifically Haggis Neaps and Tatties - Guinness on tap - Live music - character I found this beauty and it ticked every box and more. It is very traditional as you enter downstairs off the Main Street. Then head upstairs following the food sign. You are greeted at the top of the spiral staircase with a smile and a warm greeting. The ambience feels lovely from 1st moment. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Guinness ordered and mains and all appears very quickly. Even had the soup of the day as my sweet course (as wasn't sure if to commit as starter just in case). Food finished and maybe treat myself to the Malt of the Day whisky as await the live music. What a place! Food amazing and young staff so friendly and helpful. Even bought one of their t-shirts to support them and remind me of this amazing place. Thank you for such a lovely evening and I'll be back!

The staff were all friendly and attentive. I had the fish and chips - fried beautifully and crispy and a huge piece of fish! My husband had the special - Cumberland sausage with mash and red onion gravy - decadently rich and delicious! The chocolate coconut cheesecake was a light and delicious dessert. Popped in here for some lunch before heading home after a great couple of days in Edinburgh. Great selection of food on the menu. Staff very helpful and friendly. Wee warning for those who have problems climbing stairs - to get to the restaurant area you need to climb a narrow spiral staircase so may not suit everyone. We each had a different main course, fish and chips, steak pie and haggis neeps and tatties - all piping hot and tasted great. Desserts were ice creams and the apple crumble, all demolished! Got very busy within an hour of opening so might be advisable to book? Would absolutely eat here again when back in Edinburgh!

Auld Hundred Restaurant in Edinburgh is a hidden gem that truly deserves recognition. From the moment you step inside, the warm and inviting atmosphere sets the tone for a fantastic dining experience. The food is outstanding, with a menu that delights the palate. I was particularly impressed by the Channa Masala; while it might not be the traditional Indian take, it offered a delightful twist that was both flavorful and satisfying. The soup of the day was equally impressive, showcasing fresh ingredients and a depth of flavor that left me wanting more. Auld Hundred also boasts an excellent selection of beers, perfect for pairing with your meal. The highlight for many, though, is the extensive collection of Scotch whiskies. Whether you're a connoisseur or a casual drinker, you're sure to find something that suits your taste. What truly sets this restaurant apart is the exceptional service. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about ensuring a memorable dining experience. Their recommendations are spot on, adding a personal touch that enhances the overall visit. Reservations are highly recommended, as this place can get busy, and it’s easy to see why. Great pub, great service and excellent food. Price/performance ratio is very reasonable. We had the Coleslaw and Haggis Balls as starters. The haggis in the fried balls was very creamy and very nicely seasoned. A slight spiciness on the finish. Plus a great sauce. Fantastic. The main course was fish & chips (you can add the vinegar yourself). Super. And we had the steak pie. The meat was very tender and the sauce was strong. Plus potatoes or chips. A wonderful dish.
