Our hotel staff recommended this restaurant for dinner. The first floor is a pub with a restaurant on the second floor. The overall ambiance was cozy, authentic and comfortable. The staff were all friendly and attentive. I had the fish and chips - fried beautifully and crispy and a huge piece of fish! My husband had the special - Cumberland sausage with mash and red onion gravy - decadently rich and delicious! The chocolate coconut cheesecake was a light and delicious dessert. We enjoyed our experience so much that we came back again the next night! We highly recommend!!

Popped in here for some lunch before heading home after a great couple of days in Edinburgh. Great selection of food on the menu. Staff very helpful and friendly. Wee warning for those who have problems climbing stairs - to get to the restaurant area you need to climb a narrow spiral staircase so may not suit everyone. We each had a different main course, fish and chips, steak pie and haggis neeps and tatties - all piping hot and tasted great. Desserts were ice creams and the apple crumble, all demolished! Got very busy within an hour of opening so might be advisable to book? Would absolutely eat here again when back in Edinburgh!

Auld Hundred Restaurant in Edinburgh is a hidden gem that truly deserves recognition. From the moment you step inside, the warm and inviting atmosphere sets the tone for a fantastic dining experience. The food is outstanding, with a menu that delights the palate. I was particularly impressed by the Channa Masala; while it might not be the traditional Indian take, it offered a delightful twist that was both flavorful and satisfying. The soup of the day was equally impressive, showcasing fresh ingredients and a depth of flavor that left me wanting more. Auld Hundred also boasts an excellent selection of beers, perfect for pairing with your meal. The highlight for many, though, is the extensive collection of Scotch whiskies. Whether you're a connoisseur or a casual drinker, you're sure to find something that suits your taste. What truly sets this restaurant apart is the exceptional service. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about ensuring a memorable dining experience. Their recommendations are spot on, adding a personal touch that enhances the overall visit. Reservations are highly recommended, as this place can get busy, and it’s easy to see why. Auld Hundred is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy great food, amazing drinks, and top-notch service in the heart of Edinburgh. I can’t wait to return!

Great pub, great service and excellent food. Price/performance ratio is very reasonable. We had the Coleslaw and Haggis Balls as starters. The haggis in the fried balls was very creamy and very nicely seasoned. A slight spiciness on the finish. Plus a great sauce. Fantastic. The main course was fish & chips (you can add the vinegar yourself). Super. And we had the steak pie. The meat was very tender and the sauce was strong. Plus potatoes or chips. A wonderful dish. A visit here is highly recommended. We were lucky to get a table, it may be advisable to make a reservation in advance.

We ordered the haggis bonbon as starter and let me tell you they are amazing, they come with a whisky sauce that is just delicious. I ordered the steak pie which I was very pleased with, and my partner ordered a burger that was mouth watering, big, and tasty (but I did not take a picture, unfortunately). I’m an Edinburgh resident and also a Friend of the National Galleries, and, for the last sixteen years or so, this has been a favourite spot of mine for lunch or coffee. However, I am so disappointed by recent visits and am reluctant to visit again. After attending an exhibition today, I bought an iced coffee for my son. The woman who served us was rude - she was also very unhelpful to a Spanish family before us in the queue - and, although we paid extra for syrup to be added to the iced coffee, hardly any actually was. Prices are really expensive now, portions smaller, the choice more limited and friendly service is sadly lacking, so what is there left to love?

Fantastic traditional Edinburgh pub with good beer, whisky and great pizza. The pub retains its original (and odd) Romanesque style decor on a beautiful polished wood interior. You can often catch some good music here as well

This was my first time here, and It was very good! My only complaints were that the drinks came a while before the food & that the small breakfast egg was quite greasy. The food tasted great though & the presentation was lovely. The tables were cleared efficiently as customers left & it was overall a rather peaceful atmosphere. Would recommend.
