Only been a few times but I’m yet to find a better fish and chip shop in the the whole of Brighton and hove. Great food and friendly staff. Food is cooked fresh, batter and chips are perfectly crisp. The only place I’ll go now!

Got regular size cod and chips. I think the amount of chips needed a large fish. But was excellent quality across board. Took 10-15 mins from ordering so not too bad. Mushy peas weren't great

Everything is good, especially the chips! I wish the vegan Tofish could be a bit more generous portion though :)

Athena B is a great fish and chip shop. Great service and good quality fish and chips, chicken and other bits. They’ve even made it enjoyable to wait inside as they cook your food with comfortable furnishings and easygoing music. This is my family’s favourite place to go.

Best fish and chips we have had in a very long time!

Was very unhappy with my order. If you order food separately on a menu not as a meal, it should be packaged separately due to allergies!! Fish was wet and stodgy and was slopped onto the chip portions which means everyone had to have chips with soggy batter and fish stuck to them, it looked like vomit.

Ordered regular chips, they where awful just scraps not even chips. I'm pretty certain they had been sitting in the fryer for some time. Absolutely disgusting such a shame as I was a regular. Not anymore I'm afraid.

Great vegan tofu and chips! Excellent value food, playing good music in the place too! Vegan menu had tofu, battered sausage and vegan fish cakes. Portion sizes were generous but not excessive. Good selection of soft drinks too.

Large cod was disappointing small, wouldn't go back for fish but the chips were nice.

I was a bit disappointed with the service a couple weeks back but as soon as the head chef left, the fish and chips have never tasted this good. It’s no doubt a 10/10, the fish is cooked perfectly paired with the most delicious chips and the current staff are friendly as ever! Don’t miss out!

Been using Athena B for years today chips were hard not double cooked batter was non existent gone from a great place to eat to nah I’ll give it a miss. Sorry Mathew but something went really wrong with your business plan.

The best money for the best food, I Reccomend BIG time

Hmmm a little disappointed. Chips were pretty good but too smaller portion really for a chip shop. Scampi 🍤 was sadly overcooked and very small, some tiny and still counted towards the 10. Room for improvement, they forgot the vinegar too.

The staff seem to spend more time singing and trying to improve there wrapping abilities. The price's are ridiculous, I will be saving my 30quid for supermarket next time and make my own. ### To add to this comment, I would like to express my gratitude for your quick and very detailed response. I know only to well how the current economic climate is pushing everybody financially, and fully appreciate that changes are necessary for a business to survive and ultimately earn. Otherwise what is the point in starting a business. With regards to the wrapping, I was referring to how long it took to be wrapped not how well it was wrapped. I also appreciate that a happy working environment is essential to a well oiled machine, so please keep the singing, but in moderation... if a customer has to wait nearly 20mins for a couple of fish n chips and a couple of single portion of chips, that was my point. However, overall I have considered your reply and also the bases on pricing so with that I have changed my review to 3 stars. Take care and just be more mindful of customers waiting, they see and hear everything!

This evening, I came in for regular cod & chips. Disgraceful is the only word to describe it. Chips were weighed and all scrag ends, cod was debatable. If I didn’t live too far away I would have brought it back. You have definitely fallen from the grace of god from the last time I frequented your establishment.

Visited Portslade for the day, this chippy was reccomended. Excellent customer service, very friendly mother and son who run it. The guy even went out of his way to make us some scraps!! Highly reccomend, lovely fish with very light crispy batter. When we're back in the area we will visit again.

Not your average chip shop. Try Athena B pies - made on the premises and really good. The chips are the best for miles. Friendly staff. Great food.

I ordered a meal to be delivered and only got half of my meal this is not the first time this has happened last time I did go to the shop for them to put my meal right but when you order a meal to be delivered and then when you phone them to be told you have to go to the shop for them to put your order right doesn't make sense as I have paid for it to be delivered have used Athena for years but will not use any more

Oh my gosh the place was spotless, the staff are warm and welcoming and the place is so much more than a fish & chip shop, my food was cooked fresh to order and tasted delicious.

Athena B are the best fish and chips I’ve ever had - everything was delicious. The batter was light a crispy. Cod was really fresh and good quality. The chips were a perfect combination of crispy, soft and not too greasy. Really nice atmosphere and staff. 10 out of 10!

Me and my daughter were walking past and fancied some chippys! I'm a HUGE chip shop fan so can be quite fussy! Well........ I have a new chippy! This was the most tastiest chippy I have tasted. We sat In on the little table as it was super clean and cute with a lovely chilled feel and me and my daughter had a lovely chip dinner. Will definitely be coming back.

Whilst staying locally on holiday, we were recommended this place and were not disappointed. Beautifully cooked fish, tasty chips and free ketchup 👍. I also have to pass comment on the packaging, which was premium and not your usual, just piled into a paper parcel 👏

Have posted five stars before but tonight and the last time we ordered the fish had perfect batter but was completely dry. The cod was small and really thin and this would contribute to dryness. We love your chippy but need an option to buy a thick piece of fish which is cooked quickly.

I heard good things about the Athena B and tried it for the first time tonight. Suffice to say this will be the ONLY fish and chip restaurant I use form now on! So good.

Simply the best fish and chips I’ve had here in the Brighton area !! The lite bite portion is perfectly sized - no feeling completely stuffed !! Batter is perfect and tastes amazing and as for the mushy peas - you must have a Northern connection 🤣 superb . Thank you so much

I have been visiting athena B since I was a kid. The same family ran it back then too and so glad they came back. They didn't just come back, they have modernised and improved every part of the shop. Matt the guy running it is such an inspiration and runs the place with precision. Food is FANTASTIC and would definately recomend. Great staff especially the potato pealer Lucas who i was lucky enough to meet when I visited tonight.

Quite honestly the best chips around. They've never let me down. I feel lucky to have them close by.

The all-new and improved Athena B are serving up incredible food! They are nailing the vegan options (tofish, tofishcake & vegan battered sausage are all awesome). We’re also told by our non-vegan friends that the rest of the menu is great too. And seriously, the chips are probably the best we’ve ever had from a chippy. Get involved!!

I’ve lived in Portslade for about 8 years now and can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve eaten here. I’ve never particularly enjoyed fish and chips before. That was until it got taken over this time. I now eat here a few times a month. The fish is always super fresh, the batter is light and crispy and there’s just the right amount of chips for me in the light bite meal. Also very reasonably priced. Great customer service even at busy times. Love this place :)

Best fish and chips I've had in a long time. Fish wasn't oily in fact the batter was light and crispy. Loved the salt and pepper squid as well. Staff are super friendly and the music keeps you going while you wait for your order.

This is the best place to get fish and chips in the Brighton area. The fish is very flavourful, the batter is light and crispy and the double cooked chips are fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside. I always get the hove actually chips and they are the best thing on the menu. Highly recommend this establishment
