Amazing venue, great food, friendly and knowledgeable staff

Delicious salmon, good portions and nice staff. My sister has gluten intolerance and waitress gave her separate menu with gluten free options.

We just visited the restaurant this month and had a three course meal. Overall, I can say that the food we ate were all really delicious while listening to good vibes music and enjoying the lovely theme of the restaurant. Plus, One of the servers, sang with us a Happy Birthday for me. 😊❤️

Review of my original 5* Review. I'm a regular tourist to york, and choose this place all the time for lunch or dinner. This latest experience was awfull. The food was bland tasteless and parts tasted like they should not have tasted. The fusion of types of food should no have been. This is not a top end restaurant. It is not London. It is a mid end mediocre restaurant with unfortunately high prices for OK food and that is it. The latest visit was awful tasting prawns (shell on) that others complained about, and over cooked overpriced pork belly. Mine was a stone bass with a white wine sauce which had less wine in than water, slightly over cooked fish and tasteless muscles. The peas would have been nice if the sauce was in the next postcode. The service staff are always nice, but they will be with an average of £8 - £10 auto tip added (10%) so unfortunately, I will no longer be recommending nor going there again. I have better restaurants i use on a regular basis with better food.

Been here about 8 times previously so was disappointed that today was not a good day. Like to come here for their steak and homemade onion rings. But disappointed with frozen onion rings and under done steak. To top it off I got served flat lager. Shame cos it's a nice place

We were celebrating a special anniversary when we visited, we were greeted with complimentary champagne and ended with a beautiful brownie. Food was delicious and served quickly, staff very welcoming and attentive. Atmosphere was great and the restaurant was very well kept. Will be visiting again!

My daughter brought me to York for a birthday treat. We didn't know anywhere to eat but booked here on line which was an easy process. We were not disappointed. Everything was perfect, the food tasted so good and We had a lovely time. The seating was comfortable, the decor was beautiful and there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere with music playing and soft lighting. The service was amazing, very nice staff who do a great job. We didn't have to wait a long time for the food to arrive. We recommend the scallops, lamb cutlets and sticky toffee pudding and the coffee. We paid around £120 for two people,not including tip. we went all out and had 3 courses, coffee, drinks and wine. When eating at an unknown restaurant it can make or break your special occaision This experience really made our trip thank you so much.

Lovey food but Rubbish atmosphere. Booked In advance as I heard good reviews. But as several other couples at tables experienced we were sandwiched in with a work Christmas doo. Vulgar experience,loud drunks shouting over tables. We could not hear each other speaking due to the screaming. Would never return or recommend during the festive period .VERY bad management to put couples trying to have a pleasant dinning experience along side a rowdy 10plus table in such a small area!!! Wish we had walked out and saved the expense!

I left a gift bag on the table after my meal with friends that had some gift wrapped jewellery inside. By the time I realised approximately 5 minutes had passed we promptly returned, as we were literally around the corner, to see if the gift bag had been popped to one side. The female staff said nothing had been found, my friend then approached the owner/manager who also said nothing had been handed in, she then asked to see the security footage then as the bag must have been stolen, he then changed his tune and went to the bin and got out my purchase and said only rubbish had been left on the table. My friend pointed out that why was it gift wrapped if it was just rubbish and then why did they open it. He said there was nothing in it. The jewellery had been pushed into the sponge so on looking it looked empty so they then just put it in the bin. She then said you had my contact details from the reservation why didn’t you ring me, he said it was just rubbish on the table, but clearly it wasn’t as it was gift wrapped and the receipt was inside. They didn’t even give us a chance to return. They opened the gift thought it was empty, as they couldn’t see anything as it was pushed into the sponge, so they couldn’t steal anything so then dumped it in the bin. He just laughed at us. Granted I should have taken care of my purchase but as a customer surely they could have given us a little more respect and given us a little chance to return for my purchase instead of trying to steal it. Please be cautious in this restaurant.

My wife and I visited this restaurant a couple of weeks back. Really nice food. However! What's with putting service charges onto bills? If you want a tip, don't put it on. Assuming you should get a tip when in the uk, you actually get paid properly then don't assume to get one. If you went above and beyond in the service and the food then fine I might leave a tip but by you putting it on the bill straight away is in my view rather rude. Other than that everything was great. Just a friendly suggestion.

This must have been the fourth or fifth time we have visited Ate O’Clock, as always food exceptional and staff attentive. However, I would like to comment on where we were seated, it was extremely close to the door leading into the bar, the staff ordering system and the wine storage area. Needless to say the constant stream of traffic was rather of putting, and as a result, made the whole experience less enjoyable. I do understand the need for as many tables as possible, especially this time of the year, as such a popular restaurant, but would say maybe it would be a good idea to remove the table, allowing more room for the staff to go about their duties.

Visited on Monday with friends for an Xmas meal. Food was absolutely great. The back room we were in was noisy but fine as they had an Xmas party. Service was adequate and nothing more the young lady seemed preoccupied and not really in the Xmas spirit until she asked if the service charge was acceptable.

The venue itself is appealing, and the staff are friendly and attentive. I particularly enjoyed the Scotch egg, which was a highlight. However, I cannot recommend the Caesar salad—it was overwhelmed by excessive bacon and an overly generous amount of dressing, making it unenjoyable. I would have appreciated a more thoughtful response from the staff. A small gesture, like offering a complimentary snack or drink, could have gone a long way in addressing the situation. Instead, I left feeling unsatisfied and hungry due to a dish I couldn’t eat—not through any fault of my own, but due to poor preparation by the chef. While they mentioned they would raise the issue with the chef, I would have preferred some acknowledgment or agreement, even a slight one, about the imbalance in the dish. It was plainly visible. Paying £15 for a meal I couldn’t eat was disappointing. A £7 refund or an alternative snack to fill the gap would have been a reasonable resolution. Unfortunately, this experience has left me with no intention of returning. p

Great variety to choose from, with good vegetarian options. Not the cheapest place to eat, but the food is fine, service quick and friendly and a pleasant atmosphere.

Cannot recommend this restaurant enough. All the staff were very attentive, especially Stelios who made my birthday even more special! Lovely food, we had a great time at the quiz. Cocktails 10/10. Will be back again.

Pop in today at lunchtime and managed to get a table,the service was good and the food was lovely,they also cater for me who is gluten and dairy intolerant Would definitely recommend and wil return when back in york.

Nice little find. The food and drink was nice. The tables outside are a little narrow but they do well for the space they have. Service was friendly, may have been because they were busy possibly. But we didn't see much of our servers during our visit so we didn't tip. Which made it slightly awkward when they automatically add it on for you 😬

Wonderful meal tonight to celebrate a belated anniversary and slightly early birthday. We were served by Milosh who looked after us superbly and attentively. The food was fantastic and the ambience and decor of the restaurant is lovely. We would recommend to anyone looking for a special evening meal in York. We hope to return when we come to York again. (The Porn Star martini are to die for)

Beautiful birthday dinner with my family here. The food is delicious, especially the pork belly with prawns and the brilliant chocolate brownies.

Such a lovely place to eat. Surroundings and food are impeccable. We would definitely return. Maybe book in advance if you want a guaranteed seat.

Brilliant restaurant bar, great food, service and atmosphere , live music couple of times a week. Can’t praise this restaurant enough, we will be back.

Tasty food and friendly service The spiced duck breast was full of flavor and tender. The sticky toffee pudding was rich and indulgent, a perfect sweet ending. Highly recommended!

Came to visit this little restaurant as part of a night away in York Town Centre. It's really quite unusual in there but in a very good way! Our table was in a section further back, decoration was lovely and seating was comfortable. I would have preferred the music to maybe be a little quieter but that could have been because we were sat right underneath a speaker. Our waitress was really attentive and the barman who brought drinks was also lovely. It was my friend's birthday and they brought her out a little cake with a candle at the end which was a nice touch. Food was all good but maybe expected slightly larger portions for the price. Drinks menu was vairied and no complaints there. Overall had a lovely meal and would definitely come back.

As always great food and good value for money, sadly its the 1st time we have visited any sat in booth, these are very small tables and have really long seat bases making them uncomfortable for ourselves. We asked to relocate however this was not possible even though there appeared to be a large amount of empty Normal tables so maybe booking could have been shuffled?

We happened upon this restaurant by chance, we are not local, and we were so impressed. They made room for us without any hassle, our food was piping hot, well cooked, tasty and well presented. Could not fault it at all. Would 100% recommend and will be back when next we visit x

Very busy and we popped in on the off chance , they managed to fit us in. The decor is so wonderful and the staff smiley and well organized. The food was a great price and when I say amazing I mean it! Was every bit tasty each mouthful. Definitely would go again if we are in York.

Great place, staff were helpful & friendly. I was having dinner with my family and needed to bring my dog so had to sit in the "courtyard", but this did not feel like an outside space at all, covered & heated. Very nice. Food was good, the duck & chicken supreme mains got thumbs up, risotto was Ok, chicken burger uninspired. Desserts looked pretty good too. Recommended.

Absolutely fantastic meal for my wife's 40th. Booked at short notice on a weekend away with two very tired small children but wete able to easily accommodate us, brought the booking forwards and incredible service and food. Everyone had a wonderful time and our waitress Elleicia was super. Would come back here on any future York visit for sure!

Been here three times in the last few years and the food has always been absolutely spot on. Service is always very attentive and the atmosphere is intimate and never crowded. The set menu is also incredibly good value for money, we came during York Restaurant week and the bill was less than £50 for two, three-course meals plus drinks and service charge.

Quaint restaurant in the centre of York. Lots of choice on the menu including an entire separate gluten free menu. Service was attentive and in a good setting with lights on the entrance to the main area. Seems pretty busy so recommend booking ahead.

Superb food. We tried to book earlier in the day but they only had a certain number of slots available for booking and they were all gone. When we appeared as walk-ins we got a table without any problems at all. In fact it was quite quiet which is a shame because the food was excellent. My partner ordered a tea which they seemed to forget about and needed to be reminded about but that's the only fault. The pork belly special was magnificent and arrived looking like a work of art.

Superb experience. Menu was varied and interesting. Not cheap but good value. The food was superb, All our party enjoyed all the food. My starter of fried brie was exceptional. Portions were very good, service brilliant, polite, helpful, very nice place, families and parties welcome. We had the Sunday roasts, beef, pork - superb. RECOMMENDED

Second time coming to this restaurant. Gorgeous food with brilliant service from start to finish. Came here to celebrate my partner's birthday. Good portion sizes. There really was nothing to dislike Booking is recommended to be guaranteed a table, especially during busy periods. I booked online, really easy to do.

my wife and I popped in here for food this afternoon, lovely place. Nice atmosphere very accommodating staff and lovely well presented food. They have a good menu with plenty of choice and the prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food that they offer.

Ate O'Clock was a fantastic choice during our first visit to York! The central location made it easy to find, and the modern, stylish décor created a great atmosphere. We visited for dinner on a busy Saturday night, and despite our table being a bit small, the cosy vibe more than made up for it. The service was friendly and attentive throughout. The food was absolutely delicious—I had the warm tofu salad, which was tasty, and my partner really enjoyed the roasted chicken and mashed potatoes. We finished with a cheesecake that was simply divine. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting York!

we arrived 14 minutes early which we were told our table wasn't ready and we had to wait. Had our food which was very good but lots of tables were empty all the while we were there so we couldn't understand why arriving early was such an issue. Service charge is added to the bill but you can refuse to pay it.

How it is rated is what it was. We were stuck in a far back corner, the starter had "seafood" in it and tasted like potato croquettes. The main was bland. Just horrible. Don't bother

We went here for our anniversary meal, food was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. The staff went above and beyond, we were given a free glass of Prosecco on arrival and a dessert with Happy Anniversary written on the plate, well worth a visit and the staff are very welcoming and accommodating. Will definitely come back when we next visit York!

Brought my girlfriend for date night and 100% happy with my choice to come here. Sat in a corner booth in a stunning red room. Amazing food staff were so friendly and welcoming. Will deffo be back and recommend to my mates for date night.

We made a booking but it was obvious they were not expecting us. Everyone was crammed into one room when there was other seating available. Service was just not really on the ball; got wrong items or nothing at all, felt like they were new or had no training. Food was honestly kinda mid, steak was dry. Chips not cooked and were hard.

Had a fantastic Sunday roast here, one of the best I've ever had at a restaurant. Good service and nice atmosphere. Dog friendly to which is great. Highly recommend eating here!

Had a two night stay in York, our guest house 23 St Marys recommended, Ate oclock for dinner we had cocktails in the bar, then were taken through to the Restaurant, it was quite amazing, quirky and beautifully set up. Of course all the clocks were set at 8. The lovely Freya looked after us so well. Great choice of wines and very reasonably priced. I had the chicken and my better half, had the sirloin steak, both cooked to perfection, no space left for the great desserts on offer. The lovely manager took time to chat, and gave us the history of the bar and restaurant. Highly recommend.

Food was very nice, service was very lacking and not very friendly just very much going through the motions etc, atmosphere was fine but very warm and no real background music or anything memorable.

Service and atmosphere good. Breaded brie starter was nice and good selection of beers. Spiced duck breast a massive disappointment, both duck breasts were placed skin side down on the plate so the skin wasn't crispy and quite flabby. I was too tired to send it back but mentioned to the waiter. I won't be returning.

Not sure what happened. The steak I ordered was very chewy and the vegetables very salty for my taste. The dessert was covered with hard powdered sugar bricks for no reason. Service was friendly, but not very welcoming. When the waiter asked about the food, I told him the steak was overcooked. No offer of a new steak or maybe a few pounds off the price. Just an apology. For me it is a waste of money, cause I can make better food myself. Wouldn't go there again. Of course I might just have had bad luck so feel free to try it yourself. Other reviews seem to be very positive.

Booked in for our wedding anniversary and the staff were amazing, went above and beyond to make it extra special, would definitely return, their adjoining cocktail bar is well worth a visit too. Thank you once again

Me and my partner went on Friday evening. It was our 2nd anniversary and Ate O'clock were very accommodating. On arrival we got complementary prosecco, we struggled to choose what to eat as the menu was full of great choices. The service was quick, the food was even better and the wine went down a treat. When we asked for the bill we received a happy anniversary sticky toffee pudding which just topped off the evening for us. We will definitely be coming back the next time we are in York

My husband and I went tonight 7 th of September to celebrate our anniversary everything was amazing from the ambience to the food and also the service especially been looked after by Liz and Tommy such assets to your work force it's my husbands first time and he really enjoyed it I have been many times and as always been exceptional we would rate it one of our favourite Resteraunts

Tried to get about 5.30pm on a Friday evening.fully booked however they said we could have a table until 7.30pm.couldnt fault anything

Nice good, great atmosphere and location. The chicken was a little overcooked so they reduced the bill. My burger was perfect.

A lovely host we had, a Scottish Gentleman, made us more than welcome. The place was recommended to me by a friend so took his recommendation and off we trotted. Went for the 3 course menu and was top notch food. I’ll go again but just me and the Mrs. Next time.

Nice restaurant with decent menu options. Only gripe I did have that there wasn’t much time in-between our starters and the mains being brought out. It’s like they want to rush people through their meals and then kick them out the doors. The meals themselves were quite nice. I have the chicken supreme and the wife had the lamb. Both looked and tasted very nice. No deserts this time as the meals were filling. Saying that, we did have the crispy chilli beef to start between us. That was very nice so I do recommend that. All in all, nice place for meal if you out and about.

Some of the best cocktails I've had and a good deal 2-4-1. Cool atmosphere, friendly staff and good background music. Will visit again

Had a wonderful day exploring York. Chose to wander down the path to a lovely lunch with my family. The Rhubarb Cooler was a particular standout that hit the spot after a day walking through the city.

Beautiful decor and ambiance, lovely service, prompt and polite, food is incredible and more than reasonably priced especially for the portion sizes, a must if you are hungry in the beautiful city of York!

40th wedding anniversary meal. From moment we arrived we were treated to two free glasses of prosecco. Service was top notch and nothing to much trouble. Soup of the day for starters which was excellent Wife chose the lamb cutlets and I had the sirloin steak for our main course Both arrived after a short wait ,piping hot and very tasty they were to. We were then surprised with a anniversary pudding .A very nice touch. As the wife was gluten free unfortunately could not eat the cake. This was without any hesitation a second plate arrived with some gluten free ice-cream and beautiful decorated. This is a place to celebrate if you have a special day .Food and service is top notch and the staff are friendly. With a budget to suit all tastes.

A beautiful quaint little restaurant in the middle of York. Sat down straight away on a busy bank holiday Sunday thought it was really super busy. Felt a little cramped in but still enjoyed my time here. The atmosphere with the staff felt like they were rushing around a bit however service with our table was excellent. The food was AMAZING! Had the scampi and black pudding to start and the lamb cutlets for main served with a light crisp tonic was the perfect accompaniment to a heavy meal. All well presented and cooked perfectly to my liking. Very well priced, enjoyed thoroughly. Will return but maybe not in such a high traffic date or time.

Ice restaurant set of the Main Street. Decide nice. Staff helpful. Food quality and size for the price good. All round enjoyable meal. Wasn’t that keen on the the booths but that’s just personal preference I guess.

Had the loveliest dinner here! The food was exquisite, and the service was terrific. Alexander was wonderful and very helpful, and the creme brulee stole my heart
