Aston Arms in East Lindsey

Lovely little old-fashioned pub, with a warm welcome. Very traditional pub food and we both opted for one of the pies. Good choice - both were excellent and just what we were in the mood for after a long trip down. All safety measures were in place and this was obviously a popular local with many regulars, creating a good atmosphere.

Stopped in Market Rasen for a late lunch, got seated ok, drinks & menu, plenty of choice. Clientele abit to be desired. 1 guy had a somewhat limited vocabulary, every sentence had the f word in, not very nice when he could be heard all over the pub. Soup was a decent portion size, burger with cheese & bacon & chips was a good playful.

My first visit to the very busy pub in Market Rasen.It took us a few mins to get seated but I took this as a good sign, we got seated then looked over the menu, myself my sister and mum chose what we wanted, I must say there was quite a large menu.We ordered our drinks at the bar, orange, coffee and diet cola, we ordered scampi and chips Garden peas, and fish for my mum.Waited around 20 mins for lunch to arrive it came the plates where full, Mine had scampi, chips, garden peas, side salad and lemon, it was absolutely scrumptious, my mums fish looked really tasty aswell. Cost around £24 for 3 meals and 3 drinks.The service was good aswell staff are very friendly.I definitely recommend this pub as they have great food and great customer service.

Dog friendly welcoming pub.Proper pub. Homemade food brilliant. Mince and onion pie with chips and proper meaty gravy.Lincolnshire Sausage pie with mash a local delicacy. Wow.Puddings lovely. Jam sponge and custard and apple and rhubarb crumble highly recommended. A must visit.Parking in square opposite.Main bus stop opposite.Railway station 400 yards.This is one of the best pubs I've ever been to.Don't miss out on perfection.

We went into this pub last Friday four of us on our way to our weekend accommodation it was great, one of the best pubs I have ever been in, very good price’s, good pub food, friendly and good space for everyone, families with children, pushchairs, older people and all made to feel welcome. It was so good we went back on Saturday.

Visited the pub for the second time in a couple of months, again with a (different) walking group, and met the same great level of friendly service, with excellent food and drinks at "how on earth do they manage it" prices. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

Visited the Aston Arms with a walking group of 19 people. The landlord was welcoming and helpful when we arranged the visit, and was happy for us to pop in before the walk to order and make ourselves comfortable. On arrival after the walk, the food was served in good time, and was of excellent quality at very good prices. I heard only very positive comments from my fellow walkers. So, many thanks to all the staff for an excellent experience - if only other pubs were this welcoming!

Visited again after quite a long break, ordered a burger, waited for nearly x2 pints, & as always had to pay up front (English tradition). Had I not paid would have left, however when it came it was covered in grated cheese cold & micro thin. After x2 bites gave up attempting to chew the burger, & ate a cheese salad roll, which had no butter & not toasted as is normal. This was the worst burger I have ever eaten (not). Told the staff & just got shrugged shoulders.

We thought we'd stepped back in time. A really quaint old pub with the cheapest priced menu ever. With most dishes priced around £6 we were apprehensive about what would appear from the kitchen. We were pleasantly surprised. The quality of the food was good & very tasty. Excellent value for money. We were only in town for a short break & ate twice at this pub. I had a small portion fish & chips with peas & side salad at £3.95. It was ample for an adult. We really enjoyed our food on both occasions & the staff were very friendly & welcoming.

A nice quick stop, on return to Lincoln. Having small dishes of fish & fish cakes, they were both delicious & flavoursome! Right quantity for us both at this time of day. Cheap too!

Stopped here for a drink in the beer garden and ended up getting a panini as the food looked so good coming out and the price was amazing. A few quid for a sandwich with chips and side salad in a lovely pub. The drink was reasonably priced too. Really pleased we went and would highly recommend.

Called in for an early evening meal. A friendly welcome by the staff to this predominantly locals pub. We were offered menus at the bar and were pleasantly surprised by the food on offer and the price. After a a reasonable wait our food was brought out steaming hot and wholesome. Home cooked standard and plentiful portions. I had chicken and ham pie with new potatoes and vegetables, served with a plentiful supply of fantastic gravy, for less than £6.

When to the Aston Arms to have a pub lunch on Saturday, the pub was busy but too loud and there was a wait but not too long. You really get what you would expect from a Pub Lunch, the food was good the service was good and the price was right.

Having lived in the town for a short while I used to pop here for the odd evening out with friends or for a yummy steak with the other half. The food is excellent. The hospitality from the bar staff is warm and welcoming. The only thing that lets this down is the locals. If you are ever in the area though I would recommend it.

could be nice , however, the stinks of guess what,, unclean toilets, the lovely yellow urinal ice cubes do mask it a little,,you know ,,,sweet n sour piss

Called at the Aston Arms proper market place pub, a bit rough and ready but good selection of beers and spirits. Nice beer garden but very close to the main road. Garden furniture has seen better days. Staff helpful and friendly.

we had the last order at 5.30pm. the chips were hard and reheated, the burger was tough and the steak meal had no mushrooms and needed a very sharp knife. very disappointing for a market place pub. it was obvious too late and the kitchen staff wanted to leave. the beer wasnt that good. perhaps lunchtime is better as we had heard lots of good reviews.

First visit to Market Rasen and decided to have lunch out. Asked the barman for a bottle of Chardonnay and was told we don't do that we only have house medium. Ok so we settle for that. He then discussed what to charge us with the barmaid and the price kept going up...I don't think I they thought I could hear them.

Was a basic pub menu. Wasn't expecting much when the prices were so low. Was very surprised when the food came. I had scampi and chips. Plenty of scampi well cooked and presented, with garden peas and chips. Food was very hot and well cooked.

Have been visiting this pub for many years now as it is our main local one my Wife and I visit. For value for money it can not be beaten. There is such a large choice of meals to choose from. Light meals to steak and children menu, also serves a good pint.

Visited for lunch. Excellent service, home made vegetable curry was delicious. Adequate serving. Friendly. Good cup of tea. Would return.

We called in the Aston arms for a meal and it was beautiful,the steak and stout pie was literally the best I've had! My wife is a vegetarian and she was well pleased with her lasagne we will be back soon for sure.

Aston Arms is a warm and friendly pub.Good customer service and good traditional food at competitive prices.We go regularly for a meal and always enjoy it.

My wife and I are regular users of this Pub and Restaurant over the past 12/14 years. The one thing you can be assured of is: Good honest pub food with many choices and very keen prices. Only criticism is the decor. Having said that I can guarantee you will not be disappointed with the food or the prices.

Went here for tea as a family of four . Great food tasty and hot . Lovely atmosphere and great value for money so we called again for tea 3 days later. Recommend this place for sure

We have eaten many times at the Aston Arms, and have always been satisfied with the food. From a simple baguette or panini. To fish and chips the food has always been very reasonably priced and tasted good.

This is a child friendly pub with lots of things to do whilst waiting for food weather it's sitting in the near garden or playing pool

What can I say, a lovely old traditional pub, and though a public car park in front, has all the charm of a pub by appearance, inside and out. Nice inside, and people very friendly. The staff behind the bar, were efficient, and always aware who next to serve ( a good sign of efficient staff ) We went there twice, and on both occasions, they make a point of making sure you have a "full pint", and always seem to remember your previous drink order. A pub, just like they should be. Clean and tidy inside, and the meals we had there over two nights, were only £5.95 each, on a varied menu, plenty of it, tasty also. I would recommend the steak and ale pie, lovely crusty pastry, and my wife loved the lasagne, one of the best she has ever had in a pub. Locals told us, this was one of the best pubs in Market Rasen, and they are not wrong.

I really don’t know how to write this review as I have never walked into a pub serving food and been hit by the smell coming from the toilets, it was horrendous! The curtains were falling down, the seats were ragged and dirty and it just a bad place all round. We did stay for a drink as we were meeting friends here but would not return.

What a surprise. Friendly staff. Great ambience which promotes warmth. Plenty on offer to cater for all tastes and appetites. 10oz gammon with home cooked chips. Tasted as good as it looked.next time u will try the pies...

Food is very good have good choice and price is good too. It can get busy but food service is good only grip is seating which is bar style bench seats and stools not always easy to eat a meal from

We were in Market Rasen for a day time drink. Had a few drinks in Aston arms. Good selection of beers and a decent sized beer garden with plenty of seating. Worth a visit if stopping in or near Market Rasen.

£5.95 per meal.. says it all... Nothing amazing but fills the spot... Need to serve right beer in right glass...

What an excellent meal. The pub was deservedly crowded when we arrived, but we found a table and ordered home-made pies from the varied menu. No wonder the place is popular. We were treated as if we were really important, and enjoyed good home cooking. We go there every month to take part in the folk music session (3rd Wednesday), and will definitely lunch there again. Superb food and really competitive prices. What a pleasure.

Use the Aston almost every week and have a meal there. Fantastic value for good honest pub food. Can not fault it.Never disappointed.

We visited Market Rasen recently and as it was lunchtime we headed for the nearest hostelry. The Aston Arms is right on the market square and has a reasonably priced menu, but the Steak and Stout pie which we had was excellent. Big tender pieces of steak in a rich gravy with a jug of lovely thick gravy on the side. The bar also had Butcombe ale on draught which was excellent.

Always call for a drink when in Market Rasen, and sometimes have lunch.

Generous good value food - sadly not served on Saturday nights. Wish they did more good ales. Neat little outdoor seating area but predominantly smokers so not much fun for a none smoker, particularly if you want to eat. That said it is a good old fashioned local.

We popped in for a meal and had a lovely meal. I had a breakfast and it was lovely and food was piping hot. My partner had the gammon and egg and said it was delicious. The staff were very polite and very welcoming. Will defiantly be returning.

Popped in here for a late lunch while staying in Market Rasen. A traditional type of pub, bit faded & worn around the edges but very welcoming. Plenty of choice on the menu & specials board, all at exceptional value. We both had 10oz rump steak with chips & usual trimmings - £8.95! Could hardly believe the price. The food arrived in good time & the steak was cooked just as asked. The place was pretty busy & all the meals that came out looked appetising. A really enjoyable meal at a great price.

We had several dinners here while staying at Market Rasen recently. Although it needs a facelift inside the staff were friendly and the food was good at a very reasonable price.

Had a great pub meal here, good size portions and quick service. Good beers on tap too. A small pub but obviously popular with locals, which is always a good sign.

Have been here a good few times over the past years. Food always very good, my husband always asks for the Chicken & Ham pie John & staff oblige him every time, even if its not on the Menu.

We often come here for lunch and it has always been very good,the sandwiches are served with chips,a lovely homemade coleslaw and salad garnish , the lunches are big portions and all very nice,the only downside is the whole pub could do with a total refurb, but I am aware that it is costly, would just make a big difference though and then everyone would winge because the prices would go up,in saying that you should put them up anyway and make some profit

For a pub meal, this was a very pleasant experience. Surroundings were traditional and unspoiled - a place that doesn't try to be something it isn't. Our pub meal was served with a minimum waiting time and the food served in the traditional way. The Aston is completely open plan, which allowed diners to sit comfortably in their own space. The whole thing was wonderfully, typically British.

Was told this pub was very good for food .We stopped off on the 1st july , firstly they didnt take card transactions so was pointed to a cash machine over the road .Bar staff not very friendly .Ordered steak medium it came to the table looking more like the soles of my shoes Chips were hard in the middle and the peas looked like they were 2 days old Will never visit again even though i have weekends in Rasen quite often

Stopped by for a drink in the beer garden which is a paved area at the side. No craft beer so I had a wine and soda and hubby had a cider. Very pleasant place to sit and although we didn't eat I would recommend it from the food I saw served to others.

Went here for food just before the races today and it was great, beer was cold, staff were friendly and food was tasty and cheap. Had a cheese burger and chips and the burger was very good and only cost £3.50, beer was a bit more expensive but it was cold and crisp. The wife had the chicken supreme and she said it was very nice, again only about £4 ish. Definatley recommend for a stop off or for a meal and beverages.

Cannot fault the food at all.. food was lush! But.... as for the staff. Their language was absolutely atrocious! Swearing while behind the bar loud enough for the whole pub to hear. Not what I wanted to hear while I went for what I thought was going to be a quiet lunch with my sister. we had to lay our own table, even though the pub only had about 5 tables of people eating. I am also disgusted at the fact that as I was trying to eat my lunch I looked up and saw one of the 'staff' members kissing and what I assume is their partner. NOT WHAT I WANTED TO SEE WHILE IM EATING MY LUNCH!!!!!! I will not be returning to this specific pub. I am well and truly put off!!!!!

Had my tea here while staying nearby with work.Had ham eggs (2) & chips all for £4.95 and a good sized portion it was too!3 cask ales at £2.80 a pint and really friendly service...would definitely call again.

Stopped off at this public house on the way through Market Rasen for some lunch. Was concerned that as with a lot of pubs these days we would be subjected to television noise while trying to eat. Was pleasantly surprised to find the two areas were distinctly separate. Good menu choice and value for money and the real ale was well kept. The place looked as it could do with a bit of a makeover which I think would improve its overall appeal. However a very pleasant experience with good service, well cooked food and polite staff.

We are always made to feel welcome by staff members and never rushed. John and the staff always do a good job and the food is always good and to a high standard. Staff friendly and polite.

We visited this pub for tea/supper with our two grandchildren and were pleasantly surprised by the prices and quality of the food served. Would go again when in this area.

A pub that's always got 30 people in,even when it appears empty,this place is pure Rasen ,like JJ's cafe,round the corner. Friendly,honest,good simple pub tucker, nice atmosphere,, good bar staff,professional landlord,variety of locals,always civil,that's why we always drop in when through Rasen,probably THE pub in Rasen,never fails to please. Friendly staff and layed back atmosphere. The drinks prices are very reasonable. Also has nice outside area for drinks. Only down side is that the pub is now looking tired and would benefit from a little re decorating.

I like this pub a lot. It's 3 minutes walk from home, the real ales really good and the ambience is good and friendly. What I think lets it down is the very tired decor and seating, some of which is quite tatty. Nevertheless, I shall continue to use it as my local because it is probably the best we have in Rasen.

Visited on what turned out to be a very busy day. Always popular on market day but this was a Tuesday.Excellent range of beers, lagers etc. Obviously well kept and served in style.Food ordered from simple menu of normal everyday pub food.Lots of small tables, benches etc in the main pub room which spreads around bar area.Unfortunately we were obviously at the end of a very long queue for food as we waited for over half an hour for ours to finally arrive.Good and tasty and good value though.So, give it a try but be prepared to wait.

Eaten here many many times and not one complaint from me, cheap but tastey meals, big portions and freshly made! Perfect!

Welcoming staff in a traditional English pub, excellent choice of drinks and bar food. I had Steak and Chips which was very reasonably priced and was a good as the food provided by some very high priced restaurants I've been to over the years.

Shocking visit that lasted 2 minutes, as we walked into the pub/restaurant a dog ran out past us followed by a swearing lady" you've let my ( swear word) dog out "( I had my son with me 7 years old!!!! Who clearly did not want to be hearing that language) there was also a big shaggy dog still at the bar!!! A place that serves food should not have dogs running around. The landlord clearly did not give two hoots, definitely not recommend unless you like rude people, scruffy dogs and less than courteous landlord. I will not be visiting again.

We had lunch here on Monday & have to say we were all very impressed! Most of the meals seemed to be priced at £4.95, which was superb value. I had a homemade lasagne, which was delicious! The service was also very good.We were however surprised that the pub didn't accept payment by debit card for the meals.

The bar side can be a bit noisy but if you go into the restaurant instead, it's much quieter and there is plenty of seating so a large group could easily be accommodated. They have a good range of food plus daily specials. The meals were very good and servings were plentiful.The staff were friendly and helpful.

The menu is standard pub food which was adequate and inexpensive. Beer was good, but it desperately needs a re-furb, the carpets were old and dirty, some of the seats likewise.

As my hubby and I were staying in Market Rasen for the week we had our evening meal here a couple of times. It is your basic pub but the meals were very good and the staff very friendly and obliging.

Pleasant and helpful staff. Good and plentiful food at very reasonable prices. There was lots of room for the younger members to play snooker or watch to sport and sufficient seating for large family groups to enjoy a meal together

This pub may look a little rough around the edges (in fact in inspired Bernie Taupin to write Saturday Nights Alright for Fighting!), but the food is great and we genuinely had the best scampi and chips ever. Some of the language near the bar was a bit choice so possibly not a good place for children.

An easy place to find with free parking, bar meals are very good and represent excellent value for money. A nice choice of beers and ales

Tried here on the Sunday evening of bank holiday, unfortunately no longer serving food as stopped at 6.30. Queried what time doing food the next evening, couldnt guarantee but likely to stop early being a bank holiday monday.

We were looking for somewhere to eat. This pub doesn't have a menu on the outside, or even a blackboard with specials. Needless to say, we didn't go inside.

We were staying nearby and we were struggling to find food being served in pubs. Seems a lot only serve after 6. This was perfect. Food was plentiful and very cheap too. We ate there two nights and had something different each time. Steak was perfectly cooked the pies were homemade and the lasagna was wonderful. Plenty of seats and tables but we were eating around 5-6 so don't know if it got busier later on

We visited this pub about 5 times in our weeks holiday, the staff and John the landlord made us and our Hungarian Viszla Chilli, so welcome. We also ate here and the food was very good and good value for money, would definitely recommend going to this pub!

A real consistent place to eat, I recommend the hot baguettes or gammon, lovely, decent portions, friendly staff reasonable prices. My only comment has to be that the pub could do with freshening up a little but still ok.

We left the Advocate Arms after one drink and walked over the road to the Aston Arms. This was much more like it. Friendly staff, good value drinks and a relaxing and friendly atmosphere made this the pub that we would go to, next time we want to have a drink in Market Rasen. The decor could use a little update, but that doesn't detract from what is a fine local pub.

Just called in for a lunchtime snack can say prices are very fair and the food and service are fine, not for fine diners would call in again.

Went in to this pub whilst away did not eat here however food looked good. Will come again. Met up with friends later that evening for drinks before going for a curry at the Gate of India.

Popped in with the family for a few drinks , real ale was available, good price on the drinks, also live sporting events were on the TV . The food was reasonably priced and plenty of choice, a popular town pub ,

We enjoy the food and beer here regularly. I usually have the excellent steak and chips. Meat is from Lancaster's, a good local butcher. Theakston Bitter and XB is always tasty. John Bradley, the landlord, is quietly efficient and friendly.

Serves very good beer and food. Good atmosphere and very friendly. Handy to park, close to the town's shops.

If your looking for Good pub grub that is cheap with a fast service The Aston is the place. Basic foods but always well cooked and served hot. Great for walkers looking to fill up on their way through.

Went for lunch here on a quietish Friday in February when driving through Market Rasen. There was a reasonable choice and all the pub standards were there. Service was good and the portions were generous, including an extra jug of gravy. The steak pie was awesome - as good as your gran would make, proper home cooking. It was excellent value. Lunch for 5 including drinks (mostly soft) came to £30. Would definitely call in again if we were passing through.

We visited this pub whilst staying in Market Rasen for the races, what a great country pub, unfortunately they had stopped serving food by the time we arrived but from looking at the menu it was probably good for food. The drinks were very reasonable and staff very friendly. I guess it is probably a locals pub but you are made to feel very welcome. Free parking outside in the square or as in our case a five minute walk back to the hotel! Will definitely return when back for the races!

Good, no-frills pub with good no-frills food, friendly staff, and well-kept beers. Can't ask for more! A very useful pub for lunch.

It is a really ok old fashioned type pub. Prices are very reasonable, ales are particularly well kept and the place is always busy from what we could tell.However (there is always!) the food was, at best, slightly warm and the peas not cooked.Overall a thumbs up if you do not have high expectations but, as a budget meal, not a problem
