A beautiful spot to browse old and new books alike for purchase. Located in a number of barns the atmosphere is very authentic with log fires and sofas to relax on. There are nooks and crannies around every corner and a fabulous coffee shop to wet your whistle, complete with very tasty cakes, hot and cold drinks and nibbles to buy (quite pricey might I add). Nevertheless I have been many times and will continue to do so. A little gem in the Warwickshire countryside.

There should be more places like Astley Book Farm - a quirky re-imagined place, turned into something almost magical. The low complex that used to belong to an actual old farm, has been turned into a boo store of used books, but covering absolutely every genre and some proper old gems. Of course there is also a café and a garden and a yurt I believe it's called? Basically a round shaped space in the garden, with a cosy fire in the winter, and plenty of big long tables to sit, drink and eat or simply read, perfect for a bigger party. I won't tell more so not to spoil the fun of exploring this place. There is plenty of parking! Food is ok, not very exciting (but then again I'm not British;), my favourite is the soup or pizza, shakes are great and so are the cakes!

MORE AT Google

I used to visit Astley Book Farm before the coffee shop existed. I never came away empty-handed, and I would wax lyrical about the shop to anyone who was vaguely interested in books and reading. I've visited the shop four times this year, and after each time, I vowed I wouldn't return. This time I mean it and will no longer be giving them the benefit of the doubt. It feels like the place is less a book shop, and more a cafe/social gathering place for people that want to mooch around amongst books without threatening to read any. I get this is a petty complaint and the proprietors likely don't care IF said moochers are spending money in the cafe (on books: jury's out), but due to the cramped walkways it makes it at best frustrating and at worst impossible to look for books without being barged into or asked to move out the way so someone can snap a picture for Instagram. The sign on the door warns that unsupervised children will be given an espresso and a puppy, yet it feels like many parents use the book barn as a form of crèche and let their little darlings run about screaming and pulling books off the shelves and generally being a nuisance. It's really quite off-putting. I've never found the staff at the bookstore to be particularly friendly, but that was less of a problem when I could find books, purchase them, and leave. It balances out the (lack of) exchange between staff and I. On my last few visits, I've noticed that every single member of staff looks like they'd rather not be there. I think you'd be hard-pressed to get a grunt of acknowledgement out of them. My biggest gripe however is the stock itself and the lack of care regarding it. The "Ten Bob Barn" aka The Cheapo Shack, is full of books which all cost 50p. This sounds like a bargain except the books are in such a state it is almost insulting to assume that the customer should consider them to be a real steal of a deal. The barn/shack, is dirty, dusty, and extremely damp. Many of the books are mouldy, covered in dead insects, and multiple have had pages/covers torn and nibbled at by rodents - for the purpose of nest making, I presume. When I last visited this week, two large and seemingly active hives were inside the barn, and plants were growing into the building from the outside. One of the shelves was so bowed it was a "U" shape, and had a giant puddle of water underneath it, with no attempts of being cleaned up. It should be noted that this puddle was almost directly beneath a light fitting(!) most of these books are ready for the bin. The main shop is also dirty and grubby with cobwebs everywhere. The books are overpriced for battered second hand copies. It is such a shame that Astley Book Barn has become this. It used to be my favourite bookstore. I would recommend anyone wanting used books in a decent condition to check out their local charity shops. Most of them sell books for 50p each (and you don't have to clean away the dead insects/dust/and mould spores).

Disgusted to be charged nearly £9 for a small cuppachino and a small slice of cookies and cream cake. The coffee was luke warm and the cake was extremely dry. Absolutely not fresh that day. I won't be wasting my money in this grubby and tired looking hovel again, thats for sure. Some advice to the management... display your prices ! That way, people can make an informed decision on whether they want to be grossly overcharged for a dry piece of cake which is clearly past its best.

This was such a quirky place, and I had a lot of fun wandering around looking at all the books. I buy most of my books from charity shops, so comparatively they were more expensive at the book farm, but they weren't crazy prices. I didn't buy any because I already have a lot, and it was enough for me to soak up the atmosphere. I did buy some gifts as they were lovely and very reasonably priced. The cafe cakes looked lovely, but I got a milkshake instead. Sadly, the milkshake didn't taste like bubblegum ice cream, and it tasted very syrupy and sickly. If I were to visit again, I would opt for a cake and coffee. If you're in the area, I'd definitely recommend a visit.

The food and drinks were tiny portions at huge prices! Nothing is handmade, the cakes are all bought in and the paninis are all ready made so you can’t choose your own fillings. The young girls in the cafe were pleasant but the lady on the till was almost rude and dismissive. £8 for the smallest panini and a few crisps! Almost £4 for a simple cup of coffee. Our food order was missed and we were left waiting and when we asked there was no apology they just brought out our order, wrong! Recently visited for pre-booked lunch with family. Ordered 2 x Asian Salad Wraps & 1 with crispy duck (£5 extra), plus a burger. All the meals were disappointing in particular the crispy duck which was very dry and burger didn’t have much favour. Overall, a pleasant location but food overrated & expensive.

We went for a 50th birthday party. The food, the service, the singer, the karaoke......everything was excellent. What a fantastic night
