ASK Italian - Taunton in Taunton Deane

We were at this restaurant for the second time and we were disappointed. The food we ordered tasted good, but it didn't make us feel good. We ate in different restaurants more than once and did not have any stomach problems. We feel bad after visiting this place. We have stomach pain, reflux, and we feel like vomiting. We don't know what we were served, something was definitely not fresh. We are disappointed and have no intention of going back there. The client's health should be the most important thing.

Jake was our server and he was very friendly and the food itself surprised us as its improved a lot. Very impressed.

A nice warm welcome by the staff, our waiter was really friendly and nothing was a problem. Food was great and the courgette fries are insanely good, everything was well presented.

I ordered Ask through Deliveroo. I confirmed with Ask before I ordered, under their tell us about a requirement note, that we DEFINITELY COULD NOT, have peppers on a pizza they said not a problem they’d tell chef . Phoned after I’d ordered for a second time to confirm not a problem and confirmed my name. Guess what : pizza came with peppers on. Took 15 times for them to answer call. Our Christmas takeaway treat and someone had no food. Ask’s only solution come and get another one yourself in your car!!!!! Not likely Ask after a glass of wine not the way I do things!! AVOID not worth it if have any sensitivity or want a treat you don’t normally have. REALLY Disappointed!! Nearly £100 for a family meal and they can’t even get it right with 2 extra reminders - apparently sent our order to someone else as the kitchen can’t come with 2 at once 😱

Ask - Taunton My husband and I booked a table at Ask Taunton for a pre Christmas lunch Friday 20th December. On arriving at the restaurant we immediately notice heaters dotted around and asked the front of house why - he explained the heating was not working and the mobile heaters had been issued by head office - several people were eating with their coats and hats on, we did contemplate leaving but decided to stay as our many previous experiences of this venue had been nothing but positive. This booking was however to be the worst we have ever experienced !! There was probably only 6 tables occupied around the restaurant but it took nearly 15 minutes for the waitress to even ask our drinks order, the 3 members of staff seemed more interested in cleaning tables than serving new customers. We ordered our drink and food, and our wine and starters arrived quite promptly, however our mains seemed to take forever, it was a good 30mins wait. When our pizza finally did arrive, my husbands was on a 'marble effect' plate and was stone cold ! Goodness knows how, there were only 3 tables occupied by this time and its a specialist pizza restaurant !! My husband was not happy to say the least and so we called a male member of staff over The conversations went as follows My husband said "Sorry mate but this pizza is cold" The mans reply was "Right" - then he just stood there - not offering any interest at all My husband then said again "This pizza is cold" The man replied "And what exactly do you want me to do about it" We were both gobsmacked and looked at each other dumfounded My husband then said "errr I'd like you to replace it with a hot pizza if it not too much trouble" The man's reply in a sarcastic tone was "and that’s exactly what I was going to suggest if you'd give me a chance" My husband then said "I think your attitude is out of order mate, we are the customers, and you have served us cold food" The man then said "there's only one person here with an attitude mate and its not me" At this point my husband was incredulous and wrongly reacted by saying "f*** off" - This was not directed at the member of staff, it was said in disbelief that a someone is hospitality would dream of speaking to a member of the public like that. Trying to calm the situation down, I said "I think it best if you just take both pizzas back" The man looked at me and said "you both need to leave now or I'm calling the police" I then said "and I think I need to speak to your manager" He then shouted "I AM THE MANAGER" and walked away. The whole restaurant went silent and looked at us. We have never been so shocked and embarrassed. I am still reeling this morning that a manager of a well known restaurant chain would behave in such a despicable manner. We immediately put on our coats to leave - leaving our food and half a bottle of unfinished wine. We approached the waitress who had been lovely throughout and attempted to pay £40 for the starters and wine we had consumed but she refused to take the money. She was nearly in tears apologising for the way we had been treated and spoken to. I asked where the normal manager, who in our previous experience as also been lovely, was but she said he was not available and this man was the 'GM' - assume that is a General Manager. I felt so sorry for her I was reluctant to leave her, the man is an obvious bully. My husband and I are in our 50s, we have never been treated in such an appalling way by anyone in hospitality - it was really very upsetting. We have vowed never to enter another Ask Italian again

An amazing Christmas works do! 28 of us had amazing 3 course meals - everyone loved their food and the staff were so attentive and friendly! David was especially helpful in the planning and execution of a fantastic afternoon, would definitely recommend for large groups as we ordered and paid in advance which made it so easy on the night!

We chose Ask as the venue for our work Christmas meal. The staff couldn't have been more helpful throughout the process, making it very easy for us. The food was amazing, everyone commented on how they enjoyed it. I would highly recommend having a large group meal here.

Lovely food and cocktails, good service

First visit. 6 of us came for lunch. Each of us had a different meal but all were satisfied. I had the Christmas carbonara, basically a normal one but with sprouts !! Service good. Would return if in Taunton.

What a job the 2 members of staff on the floor did and the 2 in the kitchen to keep up with the demand and a smile on their face. Having worked in the industry I know how tough it is and their management team really need to support them better with more, trained staff. The food was good, no big flavours but very pleasant. Decor was clean and fresh and had a nice light feeling.

Great food which came pretty quickly, complementary lemonade is a nice touch however service was a bit nonchalant and we felt forgotten about at times. Fine for a quick, casual bite to eat

There was a problem with our order cos they had run out of chicken apparently but we were not informed until the delivery time was reached. I ordered a chicken Milanese burger and when we received it,it was lukewarm. My wife had ordered a chicken meal with chips but substituted that with a lasagne when told they had run out of chicken. The lasagne was good. A little bit cold. Overall a disappointing experience. Hope it gets better next time.

Massive hats off to Jake for his great service for a works Christmas party. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was great. Another thankyou to Hannah, gus and the kitchen team for a fab night out. .

Amazing garlic bread but where’s the meat in the spaghetti bolognese?

This could have been 4 stars but the attention by the staff, the general atmosphere and the quality on the day was excellent. Really enjoyed my lasagne and my wife loved her sea bass. I had stuffed mushrooms first and they were first class. Ice cream to finish and all washed down with a Primitivo red wine. Happy customers! 5 stars.

Birthday meal was a complete success the manager dave was an absolute legend not only because he rectified any issues with our meal but he also got involved in our night and had a laugh and a joke with us even to the point he brought the birthday cake and said "don't look it's supposed to be a surprise" me my partner and my family had a great experience the food wasn't 100% but the manager made up for it by giving us a discount and getting involved in the banter thanks again dave!

Usually we have a great experience. Sadly this last visit was terrible. The waitress really didn’t seem interested. She didn’t even manage a smile. We just felt like we were getting in the way of her chatting with the other waitresses. Service was very slow as she took ages to come over and left us waiting ages. The restaurant wasn’t even very busy, we got there at 5.15, but didn’t get out until nearly 7.30 as service was slow. Did notice a couple of other tables trying to catch other waitresses eyes and having to wait for them. We are always polite and friendly and understand waiting tables is a hard job. Generally we have lovely waiters and they are always welcoming and helpful. Also their new prawn pizza was very disappointing, only had a few prawns and was mainly red peppers. Otherwise food was good as usually.

amazing atmosphere and perfect food as always. my family and i have been coming here for years and have always enjoyed it - definitely our favourite restaurant to go to. however i will say that the service was quite poor on our most recent visit, two girls - i believe one was called olivia and i am not sure of the other girl’s name, spent more time talking than doing anything else. service was slow and my family felt they were being judged along with a couple other tables that were speaking about it. we will be back but am disappointed with the attitude and the service provided.

Jake was absolutely fantastic! He went above and beyond, finding my elderly father’s wallet and keeping it safe for when we returned to be able to pick it up was just amazing! He completely made our day!! Highly recommend.

The gents who were on looked after us all. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and look forward to coming back again.

How dreadful can you get, the restaurant was empty and totally devoid of any ambience. The food when it arrived was late and one main dish did not arrive until much later.. not good form!. We were advised that the main course after we had ordered and had asked the question did you have enough product for three of us. Only to find that we were disappointed as they had run out and indeed had run out the previous night and not replenished. We had yet again to choose something else which when arrived was the worst food I have ever tasted it was awful, bland and no care had been taken in the kitchen. It was an unmitigated disaster and my birthday treat as well. I have had a response from the restaurant this morning asking for a review and to be fair my response was just as blunt!. Will I or my friends be returning to any other Ask restaurant not in a million years it had no redeeming features...I even regret paying a tip..£10 on an £80 meal.

I used to like this restaurant quite a lot despite it being extremely expensive for what it is however over the last couple years my favourite items have been removed leaving very little just pasta and sauce options , the majority of all the pasta HAVE to have meat or vegetables or something in it , personally I just like pasta and sauce and before there were many options but now there are only 1 option and it’s the most boring. They removed the gnocchi aribatta And another option which I can’t quite remember but I have no faults of this restaurant other than this. The gnocchi was a good item so why was it removed after being on there for at least a year 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Couldn't finish the chips as they weren't cooked right through.

We were served by Hannah. It was our first time eating in Ask Italian. We walked in late and unplanned, but were made to feel immediately very welcome. We could tell that they were starting to close but they gave us a great table and apologised for the couple of dishes that they wouldn’t be able to do. The waitress was so friendly and attentive and helped a lot by walking me through the menu and giving me great recommendations based on my likes when I wasn’t too sure what to order - it’s not often we eat Italian. Food came quickly and Hannah knew exactly when we needed something. The food was great but it was the service that will have us coming back! They went above and beyond. Would definitely recommend!

Disappointing compared to previous visits. Low quality chicken. Saute potatoes were just new potatoes that had no crispness to them. The tagliatelle carbonara was like warm and lacked sauce. A shame for a restaurant I had used for years.

Delicious food and excellent service! They are excellent at catering for allergies and dietary requirements too! (See below). Our waitress Naimh was so lovely, taking the time to talk to us and our baby to make us feel welcome. She even came outside to us to show us how to get in via a ramp because we had a pushchair.

Jake was awesome and nothing was too much trouble. Amazing atmosphere prompt service would definitely recommend.

Had a lovely meal out with my partner at Ask Italian Taunton, the service from both Jake and Ryan was professional and attentive, and I have left very full up!

A bit different than ask Italian Yeovil where we did enjoyed every meal we have had with Ask Italian Yeovil as i found the team is much more helpful and nice

Our small group from church had a delightful evening together. The atmosphere was good, the food was good and the service exemplary , Well done to the team of ladies serving the tables and the guys cooking the food.

Service was shocking waited 25 mins for desserts to come out only 3 members of staff on. Waited 10 mins to pay the bill. The lobster and crab ravioli was cold. Normally ask in Taunton is good but Sunday was not a great experience.
