Ask Italian in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

I had a really lovely meal at Bella Italia. The food was delicious, with a good range of vegetarian options to choose from, which was great! The waiter was super friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. The pricing was reasonable too, so it felt like good value for money. Overall, it's a nice place to eat with a pleasant atmosphere. I’d definitely recommend it for a casual, enjoyable dining experience.

Not as good as 12 months ago. Food is okay. Pasta good. Sauces covering pasta insubstantial, thin and lacking a depth of flavour. Cocktail was cheap because it was tiny. Would no longer recommend, maybe a bad night but have the sense ASK are cutting corners and in doing so cutting taste. Had run out of several desserts so didn't bother to order a dessert. Probably better to try a local Italian restaurant that isn't a chain and has more incentive to produce deep and rich flavours.

A regular to the restaurant for many years and this time served by chris who was excellent with us but also noticed with all diners. Nice to see some new happy faces delivering a great CX.

Best food and service i have had

Staying in truro for couple of days to see the sights. Decided to eat out and Decided on Ask Italian Restaurant.As soon as we entered the restaurant was greated with friendly manager who sorted out my aligy problem with food I could eat. Restaurant is decorated to a high standard. It's best Italian food I have ever tasted, and presented to a high standard. We had garlic bread with mozzarella cheese. Mains being pollo milanese and fruitti mare with linguine. If you are in Truro i recommend this restaurant you will not be disappointed.

Excellent meal with great service. The atmosphere is great in term time with no noisy kids present. Sign up for the emails - the offers can be really good.

Great food as always. Service a little slow on this occasion but they were very busy! The staff are very vigilant when it comes to allergies. They have a folder to check against all the potential ingredients which people may be allergic to and your meal comes with a sticker to say it has been made with your allergy in mind.

Fantastic food and had excellent service and they went out the way for my husbands birthday. They accommodated my allergies too.

Last evening on visiting Ask I found it to be by far the best experience I've ever had in there having visited several times over the years. As always the food is fabulous but previously if I was going to give a constructive comment I've never rated the service that highly. Last night the combination of staff members were quite exceptional....they were efficient, extremely friendly and happy. It created a special buzz. The chefs were seeming happy in their stressful task providing the fine food for a busy restaurant Top marks to you all. Many thanks for turning an ordinary evening going out for a bite to eat with a mate into a special and fun night.

Recently went here was seated quickly and the atmosphere was amazing !! , food came quickly hot and very tasty as well as the cocktails I highly highly recommend this place to everyone

We went to Truro ASK Italian for lunch. The lady who greeted us was very pleasant and friendly and welcoming. The service was very slow as the restaurant was very busy at what was peak time for lunch. When the food arrived it was excellent but we had to wait too long. While slow though, the service was friendly and attentive. We also had a a very noisy birthday celebration on the next table. Given the above, I would have given 5 stars based on the good things.

Great experience at ask italian. Booked online easy, was welcomed well by Sandro who i believe to be the manager. Service from a young lad called Sharbel was perfect. Checked back on us well, very quick on the hand held customer service was made for him. thank you

Staff were helpful and friendly, food was good as usual. Ladies toilets really needed a deep clean , the sanitary bin was full 😅, cobwebs , smears on mirrors , toilet seat was very dirty .

We were blown away when they handed us over a folder for our dietary requirements without us even having to ask! We had recently had a bad experience at Zizzi's where even though we had extremely low battery on our phones the staff were insistent over and over that we scan the QR code to see the gluten free menu and said they did not have a hardcopy we could look at. The atmosphere was great and the place felt very luxurious. We were given a free shot of fresh lemonade as we sat down. They were very helpful and accommodating with my dietary issues. Pizza was much better than the gluten free pizza at Pizza Express.

first time visit myself and wife with daughter and son in law found service polite and efficient and friendly food was quick and tasty was busy but still got attended well was not a great fan of Italian food but this changed my mind will be going regularly now was relaxing and pleasant

Just dropped in for some takeout but the staff was incredibly friendly, funny and handsome lol. Also when we ordered we were told it would be 15 minutes. It was ready in 7. The deception😊 Highly recommend!

Standard ASK Italian; food is nice tasting, but the prices are starting to be a bit too high for the quality and portion size. Lots of independent eateries offer better value in terms of bang for buck

We had a nice dinner at Ask Italian. Even after booking a table, the table given was quite small - and I didn't have any space to move. But the service was lovely. They did serve good food. For starters, we ordered the Arancini - especially the goats cheese and beetroot one was my favourite. We also ordered the 'nduja and cheese dough bites - they were absolutely smashing!! The spicy sauce made them perfect. For mains, we ordered the beef pappardelle and the chicken and pancetta pizza. The pizza was good. But the pasta was exceptional. The cocktail I ordered was ok. We'll definitely go back to try more dishes there.

I visited Ask Italian Truro with family (6 adults and 4 children). As always, the service was top class and the food was amazing!! ⭐️

I always like to eat out at an Italian restaurant abroad because people are usually welcomed warmly there. Unfortunately that wasn't the case here. The calzone was excellent, the dessert was rather boring. The service representative was very difficult! In a previous review I found the right word...he gave the impression that he could hardly stand me....quite arrogant and dismissive. I've really never experienced anything like that. I would say I missed my job. A pity!

First time we’ve visited Ask Italian and we weren’t disappointed. It was busy ish when we arrived, but we weren’t kept waiting, we were shown to our table by a friendly waiter. The food was amazing, tasted great. Good value for money, good size portions, not rushed. Will definitely be going again

This is an absolute gem of a place. Lovely location and everything good about Italian cuisine. Beautiful fresh ingredients speak for themselves. Friendly staff who care about what they do.

Arrived and were sat right next to the serving hatch so couldn’t hear ourselves speak and constantly had a string waiting staff bellowing away next to our table. We ordered tapas style dishes and all came over cooked, to the point where most of it was stuck to the bottom of the dish and was inedible. I told the waiting staff at the beginning of the evening they I had a voucher for a free cocktail however at the end of the evening I was told I couldn’t redeem it as we hadn’t bought a ‘Main meal’ even though our bill came to the best part of £80! Maybe the waitress could have mentioned this as knew we had a voucher and took our order knowing we hadn’t ordered a main meal. Overall very disappointing and will not be returning again.

Second chance, still awful. I gave ASK a go waiting for an appointment back in March. I was left at the bar as two staff made drinks and walked off, no one said hold on a moment or even acknowledged me. There was an issue with the cookers so the menu was a bit reduced, no problem but the manager said it like he wanted me gone, so he could just close up, he was brusque, ignorant to attempted small conversation and walked off as I was speaking, it was so rude (the place was dead) and shoved the card machine at me half way through my meal. It gave me the impression he thought I was going to leg it! I felt singled out it was embarrassing. I did raise this with ASK directly and they issued a voucher for me to try again. Today was worse. Only 3 tables including me. Stood at the bar for ages whilst staff chatted. Was seated in the same table, next to the filthy shelf that still hadn’t been wiped. The female waitress was really polite and friendly thank goodness. Starter tasted nice (mushrooms) but pretty piddly portion wise. The prawn/crayfish tagliatelle was off, like, off off. Clearly microwaved as the middle bottom was hot but the rest was like warm and cold, not good for seafood! And the sausage side was anemic. The food was thrown out as fast as possible when there was no need to at all. It was just they could sit and chat more. The pudding was disappointing even though it’s their special. Never again, they really don’t give a toss and that’s bad news behaving like that to residents who keep it ticking over.

Lovely restaurant with open kitchen and good selection of beer can recommend the gran reserve beer. Nice limoncello while waiting for a lovely cooked pizza.

Saturday night in Truro and some Italian food was the order of the day. We headed over to Lemon Street and to Ask Italian to sample the goods. We arrived shortly after the opening time, the restaurant was quiet. The staff were welcoming and showed us to our table in a peaceful spot. One portion of sea bass and a spaghetti Bolognese was ordered with a couple of drinks. The meals were mouthwatering and delicious. The sea bass was divine, tasty, seasoned beautifully and not a jot was left on the plate. The Bolognese sauce was perfection and a no evidence of the meal remained. By now, the restaurant was filling up and became fairly busy. One family was having trouble controlling their bewildering active children, but that was no fault of the restaurant. The meals were wonderful, the staff excellent and the restaurant itself was a very nice way to spend an evening. Deliziosa!

Wonderful evening great service and great food

The food was hot, and very tasty. The staff member was very helpful and polite, and did really well to keep up with the growing room of customers. We enjoyed it the first time, so we went back again. I had the Burrata and Pancetta Carbonara and the Chocolate Etna ( Dark chocolate dome, with a warm toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream ). Very delicious 😋

No fresh mint to make mint and hit water . No mint tea either . No non caffeinated hot drinks ( decaf contains caffein in UK ) Didn’t offer any alternatives . Didn’t give a damn .

From when we walked in, there were no smiles from the staff and we didn't feel that we were made to feel welcome. We requested 4 glasses and a jug of water. Each glass hadn't been washed up properly, with lip marks around the rim. We felt our custom was unwanted with the table service, as there was no warmth and again, no smiles. One of our dishes had no flavour and upon checking the bill once home, we realised that we'd been charged extra for something that was included on the childrens menu. The overall standard was way below what we would have expected of Ask, the experience was the opposite of other Ask restaurants we've been to around the UK and because of that, we won't return or recommend to friends.

Terrible, sloppy service - mains came out before starters finished - asked for some water for the table which didn’t arrive - rushed us through main course to be told hardly any desserts available and, no coffee!! Spent £142 for the four of us and probably would’ve spent more!! Anti pasti starter was really good however, nduja and prawn risotto rubbish - pizzas are better from the supermarket for a 1/4 of the price!! Won’t be back!!

What a lovely place to enjoy some really lovely food. Everything was top notch, and the atmosphere was lovely, the staff really friendly and hard working. Highly recommended.

We were told where to sit, which , in spite of numerous empty tables was almost right on top of another couple. I felt hemmed in by a wall & the seat was too low for the table. We asked if we could move & we were re seated to a much more comfortable table where both of us could see! Unfortunately my pizza was so dry it was not that enjoyable. It was as though the tomato paste which was sparse, was all dried up. There was very little pancetta . It was cut sooo small it was hard to find. On top of this we were told panacotta was off & there was no coffee, as the machine had broken. Don’t think we will be rushing back any time soon.

We arrived early and were seated instantly, the service was very good, very attentive, also we ordered our food and within 15 minutes it had arrived, it may be because we ate early so it wasn’t as busy as normally. Lovely atmosphere, a really cozy interior, enjoyed it very much!

Had a lovely mushroom starter which was delicious.. for main chose the Christmas pasta dish, pasta, pan fried sprouts, cream and pancheta... it was a little bland, a bit better with the parmesan and pepper. Portion on the small side... Great venue though as staff lovely and nice atmosphere.

Busy restaurant in Truro. Large menu, something for everyone, pizzas are large with plenty of toppings. Drinks reasonably priced too. Staff busy but helpful, however let down by a impersonal app-ordering system which albeit very well designed takes away from a social dining experience.

Honestly the food was awful! Bread was burnt on butterfly king prawn 🍤! Prawn were chewy like rubber! Main was even worse, cold in part’s boiling in others! It was very bland, very tasteless! The dessert was on, but again felt like a reheat! Very disappointed

Bad service, okay food. I was looking forward to eating out but my server kind of ruined the experience unfortunately because he was very impatient and seemed almost as if he could hardly tolerate me for whatever reason. Later, when I wanted to pay, I couldn’t find him so I asked another server if I could pay and she was lovely. I ordered the vegan “margarita” pizza (seeing as it had no toppings I would rather have it called “cheese”, or in my case not-cheese, pizza) and it was incredibly bland, the pizza sauce seemed to have no herbs in it, and the pizza was in bad need of salt (I would have asked for some, but I was too scared of my waiter to bother him). The atmosphere was okay, nice enough decor but you could smell everything from the kitchen and for most of the time I could just smell burning. I was given the lemonade, which I only found out wasn’t vegan after I had drank it (despite the fact that when the waiter asked me about allergies I had informed him that I didn’t have any but I was vegan, to which he said “vegan is not allergy”). It wasn’t vegan due to something to do with flies apparently, so I wasn’t too bothered but it still would have been nice to have been informed beforehand. Overall, won’t be going back based on my experience, but I hope others have more pleasant experiences.

Beautiful food, lovely service - although our waiter seemed really rushed despite the restaurant being quiet. We weren't asked about how any of our food was but we liked that as it gave us time to enjoy without disturbance. We would still come again. Thoroughly enjoyed a quiet night out.

Customer service was excellent, and food was hot and tasty. I had Prawn and Crayfish Fettuccine, Calamari and a mayonnaise dip and a trio of desserts which were cherry and mascapone pot, chocolate brownie and Tirimisu.

This is a fantastic restaurant that I have re visited many times it has great Italian food and service will never disappoint

This restaurant is in a great location and serves good food. Being a bit old fashioned, I think some of the staff are scruffy and can't tell who works there and who are guests. Being shown to the table is rushed, no gap between starter and main, it feels like you're being rushed so you get out to make space for next customer. Our waitress was very good but very busy. Starter was good, main was small but tasty. Over £60 for 2 of us so not too bad. We will return but not first choice of restaurant.

Great service. Food pretty good but not exciting. Shame you have to book on automatic system as would have liked to ask for a good table and let them know it was a special occasion.

Wouldn't go back. Can only order drinks online to table not food so that when you go to pay they show options and add 10% minimum Tip then pressure you and click 10% for you without agreeing how much Tip. Was our 1st time here for 4 of us. Meal was ok, £20 sharer desert to share was nice but both small portion sizes. Was rushed which food to order asked for little more time to decide what to order then waiter comes over minute later.

We have visited Ask in Truro on a number of occasions and always been very happy with the food and service. It is a very convenient location for pre-theatre dinner. Our visit in September was a disappointment, however, as staff appeared over-busy and inattentive. Menus were thrown on the table without a word, no cheese or pepper was offered to complement our pasta and the whole experience suggested that our presence was unwelcome. Very disappointing overall.

It was the day before my birthday so we thought we would use the £10 voucher to celebrate. What a mistake. Normally reliably ok food, what could go wrong? OK food served luke warm. Shellfish served luke warm! I complained and the same dish came back still luke warm. Re-heating shellfish is a highly dangerous practice. But to add insult to injury was the gentleman's, we presumed to be the manager, assertion that the food was served hot. He argued with me like I was thick or lying. I had eaten one barely warm prawn and a forkfull of nearly cold pasta. I didn't eat the meal and then complain. He eventually told me that he had taken my meal off the order, as if he was doing me a massive favour, and that he would not charge for my glass of wine. My husband's meal was ok, very hot, and the gentleman took that comment to prove his point?! I have told my story to many and have received many similar stories in return as can be seen by previous reviews. Ask Truro do not care about losing customers it seems.

Whilst the food tasted nice it’s presentation was poor. I had baked prawns and all 4 of the bread pieces had stuck to the dish. For main I had a pasta dish, the pasta was stuck together with the sauce around it.

Came in to a busy restaurant, asked to be sat somewhere quieter and we were happily seated in a closed off bit of the restaurant with the whole room to ourselves. Sandro was our server and he was absolutely amazing, polite, attentive, and professional. The food, you couldnt fault, it was perfect. We had three starters and two mains, and ate till we popped, couldnt stop as it was too good. Hands down best meal we’ve ever had, we’ll deffo be coming back!
