Ashvale Fish Restaurant And Takeaway in Moray

Just okay. The fish was nice and crispy, but the chips were horrible. It was almost as if they were fried, then sat for a while, then dropped into the fryer again to heat them up.

I’d like to start this review by making it clear that this is for the takeaway. When we ordered food we received someone else’s order in a bag marked with our address. When we called about it we had to explain 3 times what happened and then got some called Reese who came on the phone and greeted us with a sigh and ‘ aye, what’s the matter’ . I didn’t feel however that he could care less. He was keen for us to take a refund as he said that he didn’t know if he could get the order to us. We agreed but when we asked what do do with order he said ‘I don’t know eat it or chuck it’s just a really poor attitude all round. I know mistakes happen but they couldn’t have cared less even when it was their error. From now on, we will just go elsewhere. I do not recommend, if I could have given 0/5 I would.

Disappointed, Ashvale advertises as the Favourite Fish & Chip shop in the North East of Scotland. Totally disappointed in the fish and chips we had. Although the fish had been cooked to order, it was sitting in the cabinet for 20 minutes before we were served. When we got it home the fish was dry and the chips were cold and we only live 7 minutes from the shop.

Been a few years since we visited The Ashvale. Can’t believe we’ve left it so long. Really good vale for money on the lunchtime menu. Ordered haggis bites for a starter and haddock for a main. Both were delicious and the fish was much bigger than expected. We were asked twice during the course of the meal if we would like any extra chips bringing to the table, which we declined because we were both full. We’ll be visiting more regularly from now on.

Ordered a fish cake... Got a veggie burger. !! Ok simple mistake. Told the waitress...She argued that it was a fish cake... Told her to get her boss...who continued the same story... Apparently fish cakes have vegetables in and no fish 😂😂😂 No apology. No change to something else. Just a ridiculous excuse!!

Not the cheapest, but quality food with a resonable choice of menu. Large car park and a takeaway service if preferred.

Normally the standard of service is very good. Tonight we were disappointed,ordered 2 teatime flyers but only got the haddock and chips,no tea or coffee and no bread which we stated when the girl took our order. Our girl after taking the order then finished her shift leaving only one other girl to see to everyone else. Apart from us there were 3 other tables to be served. When we went to pay I said we never received our tea coffee or bread but she proceeded to say it was free. After correcting her and saying that if we had just ordered haddock and chips it is cheaper than the teatime flyer she checked then gave us £2 off of our order. The food was lovely no complaints about it but normally you are asked if everything is fine and would you like more chips but because the girl was on her own she didn't have time to ask.

Stopped in for a quick supper as we were in Elgin later in the day. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. The fish and chips were delicious. Lovely thick fresh fish and the batter was just right :-)

Fantastic food and service from this traditional fish and chip restaurant, family visit for two adults and grandchildren, really good choice for kids menu and excellent standard, adults both had jumbo haddock, the fish was excellent and the batter crispy, really clean restaurant with no faults from us, looking forward to returning and receiving great value Thank you

Food was aweful the worst fish I’ve had,dry with a frozen taste. Scampi was 5 little bits Chips tasted stale and hard. The chicken fillets for £7 4 little bits of chicken from a freezer just disgusting and over priced. There are some really good quality chip shops in Elgin but this is not one of them. Nothing seems fresh or of any decent quality. The place looks dirty and tired too.

I had to write a quick review as I fail to understand how this awesome place could get a negative review. The haddock supper is always outstanding. There was an occasion when they missed our extra chips but straight away a huge portion was delivered to us without question or hesitation! Simply outstanding polite service! Thank you Ashvale.

Half of my order didnt turn up, rude cook on the phone tried to say i was lying and took ages for them to agree to bring some of it. Wont be back.

Great traditional fish and chips take away or sit in. Friendly helpful staff serving an excellent quality meal at great value.

£7.50 for a chicken fillet super which wasnt even fresh battered fillets they were frozen and the smallest portion of chips going. Same for the sausage supper .. and the burgers, oh dear god. The quality of food and portion sizes from this place do are not reflected in price! Absolute rip off.

Where do I start from here?... We booked a table for 10 for my sons 11th birthday. We arrived on time and was shown to the table at this point the service goes downhill. (I may add £2.50 for a 40p tin of juice is a fair mark up by any measure!) Normally at any restaurant we get asked if we want drinks upon sitting down, but we just got shown to the table and left to our devices for 10 mins before any service of sorts was made. Now if the restaurant was busy I'd appreciate it if the service would be slow but there were no more than 10 other folk sat at tables around the restaurant. So having eventually gotten served they still managed to get the orders muddled up, the soup (broth) was a jumbled pile of mush, the scampi was over cooked and was not (or did not appear to be) fresh as per the menu. The chips were lukewarm and was not the best, the chicken was as dry as the Sahara desert and did not taste that great. At no point did any of the waiting staff stop by the table to ask if everything was ok? as they were too busy congregated at the counter chatting and on their phones paying no attention to what customers were in the place. So having finished the mains it was 20 mins before any of the plates were collected, 2 members of staff passed by the table and not once did they offer to clear the table. Even the second time when a staff member had passed we had even stacked the plates to show we were wanting the table cleared to order desserts, we were completely ignored. Again the staff were too busy behind the counter on their phones and chatting to each other. At which point it was only the kids wanting desserts, having to go over to the counter to gain the staffs attention we made clear it was 3 ice creams for the kids we wanted and the bill so we could make a prompt payment. We also asked for the birthday cake to be brought up. What followed was a complete shambles!!! The cake was brought up but the sparklers were lit and extinguished before they even brought the cake up, so what was actually presented was a bit of a damp squib. When questioned about why they lit the sparklers so early, one of the waitresses snapped back that "they did light up the sparklers". There’s no doubt they did but they done so some 5 mins before they brought the cake up. The 3 ice creams that were ordered were eventually brought up for the kids, but no spoons were made available nor did the staff stick around long enough to offer any. Nor was the bill we specifically requested. Again too busy with their social lives behind the counter. Now despite making it clear at the time we wanted the bill so we could make a prompt payment, the bill was not forthcoming. At this point there were no more than 6 other folk in the restaurant, I guess the staffs social media exertions were too much for them at this point to even manage what customers were in the place After 10 mins of further waiting it took myself to go over and remove them from their Facebook to ask for the bill. Having paid the bill (no tip left) at no point we had been asked if we enjoyed the meal. I don't think this would have been wise to ask as we were pretty annoyed at this point. In short I'm not sure what has happened here as the service last night was pretty shocking, it ruined my sons birthday, ruined the cake and the experience. Will never order or set place in there again!

Went today for the first time for a takeaway, surprised it seems to be a bit more expensive than other chip shops I've used in the area. Service wasn't great, seemed to be an inconvenience I wanted my extras on the chips rather than a tub (gravy). Chips were cold, dry and bland, a bit of one was bright green which is off putting. Batter on husbands haggis was rock solid. Wouldn't recommend and won't be back unfortunately.

Telephoned an order at 17.25 hours told it would be ready in 15 mins actually walked out there door with it at 18.47 mins . Not acceptable. To make matters worse the chips were cold . All round rubbish quality and service

solo lunches on busy days, this fish restaurant is of the highest quality. Quick and pleasant service with food of the highest quality and very reasonably priced

Enjoyed lunch in the sunny conservatory. Food is very tasty and while there are no frills it is good value for large portions. Staff were friendly but professional.

One of the best fish and chips I had try in UK. We found this place by chance and highly recommend it.

Nipped in last night (2130) for two bags of chips @£2.50 each. Two people were serving and their whole conversation was around finishing and getting out at 10. The chips (which had to be cooked) were an embarrassment, no flavour and worst of all they must have been cooked in the dirtiest oil, as they were full of brown burnt bits. I hope the photo shows this, not a good advert for the Ashvale and wouldn't return soon.PS I hope the other lad who was in and ordered 4 bags of chis got his as they only cooked 3!

Visited this restaurant for a meal last Friday night. We had the special,which was fish chips and a choice of veg,also served with bread and butter and tea or coffee. Lovely meal at a reasonable price

Shop Busy - waited 25 MINS for 2 fish suppers - always thought it would be worth the wait. Got home - 1 supper - tiny bit of fish - other one barely any fish in batter. Bad effort folks!! sad to see, when you've been so good in the past.

Ordered the "whale" wow what a disappoint ment. Cremated, greasy and tasteless only managed 1 fork full and set it back to be told by supervisor " yeah I agree with you i saw it leave the kitchen" so why let it go to my table???? Ended up going to Burger King with kids and they done well lol. Never again would I enter this establishment. The whale ain't so big just an over rated over priced fish nothing special a gimmick to over charge people. My wife had normal fish and it also was returned

Hadn’t visited here for a few years and delighted to find it’s still serving up great food. We ate in the restaurant and were seated immediately. Didn’t have long to wait for our food which was piping hot and very tasty. In these days of massive offputting portions we were both delighted to get perfect sized portions but were asked halfway through if we had enough chips!! Nice touch to offer but honestly there were plenty!! Only comment is that the decor with dark brown furniture looks rather tired and dated. Wee bit of a makeover and repaint and it would look great. And maybe the fishing trawler pictures etc would stand out more, they deserve to.

After work decided to stop here for a bite to eat. The haddock was beautiful and the batter light & crispy. Chips were great too Be back soon

Stopped here many times in the past and is never disappointing... Wait times was average but the food was great... Would personally prefer a slightly bigger portion size but that's just me..

The fish was excellent but chips not quite so good - perhaps reheated? Lovely friendly welcome. The guide dog was made equally welcome.

We use Ashvale in Inverurie regularly so thought this would be a good option for dinner before a concert in Elgin, unfortunately it wasn’t! We were seated fairly promptly, but took a long time to come back for our order and a very long time to actually receive food after wards, we were actually at the point of just asking for it to be wrapped as s takeaway! ( about 40 mins from seated to food arriving) Staff were pleasant but obviously not sufficient for a Saturday evening, food was very average, chips very dry, fish heavy on batter light on fish, not likely to be back in a hurry.

Visited ashvale Elgin tonight and won’t be going back.went in at 10 to 5,not realising that the teatime specials did not start till 5.Brenda I think the manager or boss took our order and me and my partner both ordered the special or so we thought.The meal was ok but value for money definitely NOT.When it came to paying my partner was charged £27 odds and when he queried the bill the young girl said she would check with BRENDA who served us,and she said oh no you didn’t have the teatime special as it doesn’t start until 5 o clock.If she wanted customers to return you would think she would tell them about the deals that were on,we would have happily have waited till 5 o clock.Dont think she cared anyhow she just walked off with her head in the air.Inverurie for us from now on.

Far too over priced for the quality of food and service. It’s more like bater and chips (which are not very good either). Had to get up to pay after 15 minutes of waiting for the bill. There are plenty of independent chip shops all around Elgin, I recommend you give them a try...and some do have tables to sit down in. £10.95 for what I don’t think is a 5/6 oz fish? Sorry, felt ripped off.

Hadn’t been here for years and won’t be rushing back

We stopped going to the Ashvale a few years ago because the food was terrible. Tried it again tonight and if it wasn't for the busy traffic we would have bought the food back. Fish whale was overcooked and stuck to the batter, chips were no bigger than an inch, brown and tasted as if the oil was off. Sausage in batter also overcooked. It's all gone in the bin. Complete waste of money. We certainly would not recommend this takeaway at all.

I was looking forward to a Ashvale whale but discovered there is no disabled access. There is a ramp but there are three steps at the foot of it. I am a wheelchair user and I have to use a motorised wheelchair. Do not go there if you are disabled.

Usually use this takeaway if we fancy fish and chips. I think it’s fairly expensive but it is always delicious - the batter can sometimes be a bit on the thick and heavy side, but all in all not bad.

Been using the ashvale for years this is a firm favourite in my family for birthday meals out always very accommodating as I usually pick off the takeaway menu to have in restaurant. Food is great and very filling. Always recommend this place to others. Brenda is great at her job and always very nice.

During a recent stop over in Elgin for something to eat we found this restaurant and was not disappointed. Central location, lovely starter and main and large portions all round. Certainly worth a visit if in the town centre.

Have been in a couple of times both takeaway and sit down. Take away is good, friendly staff, good portions. Sit down even better. The same friendly staff, great portions and....wait for it....free chips when it looks like you're about to finish!! My idea of chippy heaven!

Arrived slightly early at lunchtime but wasn't a problem. Staff very friendly and helpful. Our food arrived quickly. We had sausage and chips and 1 of our grandchildren had the same and the other had chicken. Staff checked everything was ok and even asked if we wanted more chips. Haven't been for ages but it was really good.

Meal bought 4/11/17 @ 5.15. The food here is usuallly very good but the meal I bought was let down by over cooked rubbery chewy haddock which as usual when put in a take out box they break in half. Why? Also two people who came in after me were served their take out meals before me. (waited 35 minutes until meal was ready)I complained to the girl at the counter as to why and she said you ordered a burger very gruffly and turned her back on me and walked to the back of the kitchen. I had ordered a standard haddock supper and a plain burger supper so why was so hard to cook? Very poor counter service the young girl should be re-trained or sacked for her manner. Will never use the place again

Went to the chippy tonight for a portion of chips only to be given a portion mostly of bits. They don't appear to be fresh. The dog wouldn't even touch them.

A modern well run fish and chip restaurant that serves much more than that - the manager (Brenda) runs a tight ship and is extremely helpful, making sure her staff a highly trained too. The food is good and quickly served.

Pescado y patatas fritas en el Ashvale nunca nos decepciona. El personal es amable y eficiente (especialmente Brenda) y la comida es buena. Siempre sabes qué esperar en el Ashvale.

Visitamos la última noche y nos dieron 4 pescado y patatas fritas para llevar al abrir la caja encontramos el pescado había sido hecha y completamente seco. Peor de entre una tienda de chips en mucho tiempo.

The food was great - I had fish and chips and it was a generous portion. There was only one person serving and he seemed rushed off his feet. Decor is a bit dated but it's a nice enough place for some fast food.

Have been coming to this takeaway for a few years now and this year I've found the quality has dropped. I've had to complain twice about the standard of food. I certainly won't be back. Quite disappointed.

Never had a bad meal here in a lot of years :) Though the price has gone up a fair amount! Good for a evening dinner with family :)

Went as a family and couldn't fault it, even got asked if we wanted extra chips then got 2 decent sized bowls extra!! So good!!!

Family meal... I was looking forward to enjoying battered yellow fish (smoked haddock) which came with fried egg and chips.... Something I wholeheartedly enjoyed many years previous on my last visit to here. Couldn't see it on the menu so asked & waitress said she'd check with chef & came back to say that No they no longer do yellow fish ❌What a shame . Opted for jumbo haddock instead , can't fault it ✔️ but it wasn't what I was there for Others in group had same as me with no faults. The puddings are really lovely, please manager if you're reading this, don't change the puddings ! Their Rosé House Wine is nice tooStaff quick and efficient. Give it a try .

Stopped in for our tea after being in Aberdeen. Last time we were here the fish was poor, this time it was four fish suppers and they were superb. Keep it up.

I've never used the restaurant side of The Ashvale but have used the take-away a few times. To be honest I've never had bad food from here but the quality can vary a lot, sometimes it's lovely other times it is like the food has been sitting in the hot holder for an hour.I'd recommend visiting during the lunch time when it's quieter and the food is fresh to order, the portions are large and the fish batter is lovely and crispy. Service is always pleasant, efficient and the staff are friendly, it is a little more expensive than other chippies in the area but you do get value for money.I've used the home delivery service a number of times and only had problems with it once when it was over an hour and a half before our dinner arrived, on phoning I was advised it was on it's way and no explanation or apology given.Would recommend giving it a try if you're in the area, it is the best chippy in Elgin in my opinion.

Went here for a takeaway about four weeks ago and the fish and chips were excellent, very almost as good as our favourite the Fochabers Fish Bar....so we went here again just last week and never been so disappointed....this time the chips and batter were over fired and it was well greasy. No expert so don't know if they needed to change their oil but that's our suspicion but it really just wasn't nice at all. Gone from hero to zero and will be a long time before we try here again. Extremely disappointed as it had been so good on the previous visit.

The feel of this place reminds me a bit of small Diner -- The Fish (Haddock) was fresh and nicely battered, it was very large portion for the price. The Burgers where good, except the Buns were overly soft a bit of a challenge to handle, but very tasty. Overall a good value for Fish & Chips experience, I would return to try more Dishes. Service was timely and friendly, I recommend this as a good Fish & Chip experience.

The Elgin Ashvale Fish & Chips has restored our faith in the Ashvale brand. Such friendly, courteous staff and the food was really tasty. The lady serving us was thoughtful & efficient in her service. Left feeling nicely full, even after been offered more chips , sauces etc which we didn't take as we had plenty on our plate to start with. The fish was really fresh and tasty, and the batter was crisp and not oily. A pleasant atmosphere (albeit a bit dated, maybe the Ashvale owners will reward them with a bonus to put towards an upgrade of furnishings & an obvious wheelchair access! Service was great. As a rule, I avoid this brand of chipper courtesy of a terribly ran Ashvale in Ellon, Aberdeenshire.(AVOID) but on this visit to the Elgin branch, we rang ahead to book a table as we were en route and travelling in a hurry. Had to post this good experience.

There is a large choice of food...chicken, pizzas, sausages and pies along with the fish and seafood.Food is good, service prompt and restaurant and takeaway very clean.Excellent parking.

My wife and I lunched on Sunday 11th September. Not great fish,some chips fresh others obviously cooked a time ago. Menu quoted medium fish and chips £8 odd. Two plus 2 teas came to £25. A family next to us left at same time saying that they were almost £50. Neither of us would eat here again

Delicious locally sourced fish, plus homemade chips and onion rings. Very good portions and great value for money. Various vegetarian options too.Best chippy around.

Visited with family for spur of the moment pre-cinema dinner. Adults went for traditional fish and chips and it didn't disappoint. Even though it was a Sunday the fish was very fresh and crumbled on the plate. Kids had roast chicken and chicken curry and though not quite up the standard of the fish and chips, they were happy and it was clean plates all round. Portion sizes are generous but not obscene (except the "whale" but the staff make it clear this is for the bigger appetite). The dessert selection was standard fair but perfectly fine. Staff were friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend for lovers of traditional fish and chips and we will visit again.

We went here for tea while on holiday and it was fantastic. There were clean plates all round and we were even offered 2nds for free if we wanted. The staff were friendly and the service was quick even though the restaurant was busy. The only downside for me was the kids had juice in glass tumblers rather than plastic ones,which made me rather fearful incase they would drop them but thats just me being picky. Would definately recommend to toehrs and would go back again.

When I need a quick meal, and we are all too tired to cook, the Ashvale in Elgin is just fine. There is easy parking, the staff are welcoming and quick, know what they are doing. (How often are restaurants staffed by beginners?!) And as well as the traditional yummy fish and chips menu, there are baked potatoes, salads, all sorts of food. Lots of pots of tea with extra hot water automatically. Perfect :-)

The Strath Sunshine Club had our summer outing to Elgin and we visited the Ashvale fish restaurant for our fish and chips before we came home .The food was lovely and served very quickly .The food was all freshly cooked to order.The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us .They came out to wave us off Thank you so much.Every one on the buses were speaking so highly of you all.

My husband and I both had a small fish supper to take away and were glad we hadn't ordered the standard as the portion was a good size. Lovely fresh haddock and superb chips, thoroughly enjoyed it, well worth a visit!

I've been here a couple of times using both the Takeaway and the restaurant and I've never been disappointed. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. True the place could do with a lick of paint but to be honest I haven't come here to admire the wallpaper. I had a jumbo haddock supper and was absolutely stuffed by the time I was finished but I was impressed with wifey’s chicken salad which she said was lovely, I should have had that maybe next time.

Had lunch time menu two courses for £8.95 each. Food very good and fresh! Plates serving haddock, far too small!! Waitress seemed quite moody, no friendliness!! Place really scruffy and scabby. Holes in carpet at stairs, scuffs on wall!! Downstairs toilet vent covers in dust!! Really needs updated!!! Menu needs updated also. Same old!! Not going back till it's updated!!! I like the 70 look but ripped carpet is going a bit too far!!!

In my humble opinion this is a splendid chip shop much used by locals.The setting is pleasant and it is just off the high street

I have been several times for tea, always opting for fish and chips, which are excellent. Good portion sizes, good children's menu.Staff are very pleasant and helpful, good value for money.

We had a voucher which cost £9 to buy 2 fish teas and were delighted with the fresh fish.I had chips and beans and my wife had salad and coleslaw with the fish.It was lunch time and quite busy but service was fast and with a smile.

Had family for meal when meal arrived hot freshly cooked sure it was a whale tho......it was so large. The fish itself tasted so fresh. Have used the one in aberdeen this was also a credit to them.

Quick bite to eat before fire works... three dry rolls with hotdogs & 1 portion of chips £10.20!!... while waiting for food I could hear a woman shouting at the staff in the kitchen & asking "would you like to eat cold sticky toffee pudding?" She then spoke to another member of staff "have you got it right this time?" As a customer I felt awkward anf sorry for the staff member as no one should be spoken to in that manner... I asked for sauce for the hotdogs bit was advised it would be another charge...thought we would nip in and grab food up town rather than at the stalls during the fireworks as they can be pricey but at least would have had a decent hotdogs!!! Will NOT be returning again...

We have ordered chicken salad with baked potatoes and cheeseburger with chips. Well, where to start?? I regret I didnt take a photo of it. The salad was absolutely horrible, just lettuce, old tomatoes, cucumber, orange(?), kiwi fruit(??), very old grated cheese. On top of that was a poached breast of chicken, cold and covered in some fibers. Really not a thing you could really enjoy. The baked potatoe was baked, freezed and reheat again, the taste and texture says it all. A meat in the cheeseburger was so spicy that it would leads you to think they want to cover something (maybe that the meat was a bit off). The chips were baked at least an hour ago in the oven...not really crispy ;) Also we have ordered a battered garlic mushrooms which were just tasteless, full of oil, greasy things. When I was trying to complain (I did that quiet, I did not want to make a scene) I ended up being shout at by the chef/owner that there is nothing wrong with the meal and blah blah blah. I did not believe my eyes, what a attitude! We ended up paying for a beer and the garlic mushrooms (we forgot to complain about them :) Never ever again!

The place its self was okay but the fish wasn't very nice the batter was under cooked in the inside .This the second we have been there and both times the fish was the same .Won't be going back

We stopped in here on the recommendation that it serves some of the best fish and chips in Scotland. However, food was quite bland and ordinary and twice as expensive to sit down and eat compared with takeaway??

We have often enjoyed take-away fish and chips from the Ashvale in Elgin. In good weather there are tables to sit outside. Always excellent!

We have used the Ashvale on a reasonably regular basis since about 2012 and found it to be one of the best around, the chips are always good not too greasy and I like their menu selections. They do home delivery which we quite often use and take card payments, delivery is never too long even when they're busy and the food is always hot on arrival. There is a restaurant area although we have never sat in to eat always choosing to take away or have our food delivered, there is quite a large car park which makes visiting easy. Based on our frequent use of this place for our weekly take away night I would be happy to recommend its use.

Well I thought I would try again but not the fish this time lol. Instead I got macaroni cheese and chips. The macaroni came in a small plastic container. I do not know if it was made by another company and bought in or made on the premises but all I can say hand on heart this was crap and a waste of hard earned money. It tasted bland. Whoever said this is a fantastic chippy must have just come out of hospital or prison for the day because I have had better hospital food than this. No reflection on the staff who were cheerful and polite. I will definitely back to this fish restaurant/carry out.

Wonderful freshly cooked food. The restaurant is a wee bit small and basic but the service and food makes up for that. The Ashvale has their own parking which is a bonus.

Not many 'traditional' fish and chip shops left in Elgin. The Ashvale has been around as long as I can remember. Popped in early Monday evening and ordered a haggis supper - you don't get them in South Africa unfortunately. The service was warm, friendly and prompt. The battered haggis exactly as I thought it should be and the chips were perfect.

Great food, very friendly & helpful staff, great value for money, a great atmosphere, busy place, but quick service, thoroughly enjoyed it

Terrible service, terrible staff, average food, impounded my car and left a notice stuck to my window stating this car park was for customers only because I left it for one night after having a drink! We had a party of 9 of which 4 finished their meal/whale and stated in the menu "clear your plate and get another free or a free dessert" waited 45 minutes and eventually had to find staff ourselves, if you are in a hurry to close don't take the booking!!! Will not be back unless there is a dramatic change!

I have been a few times since The Ashvale opened in Elgin and at the start it was just as good as the Aberdeen branch, however no more it is very disappointing and the food was cold by the time we got home - a 5 minute car journey

We all ordered fish and chips. The fish was oili, wet and tasteless, and the chips was also not crispy. It was a sunny and Nice day, and we Asked to sit outside on there tables 2 meters outside, but it was to difficult to serv is there so we couple not. There was only one person to serve all of the tables in the restaurant, and she Did as well as she could, but was a bit tired and had a bad mood. There was no Nice fish dishes on the menu.

Not only excellent fish and chips but much else besides, always plenty on the plate and more chips available on request.The manageress is an asset to the firm - she has been there a long time and knows her customers well.

I have become a regular visitor to the Ashvale, every meal that I have had here has been delicious and cooked to perfection. The portion sizes are very generous and the staff are very attentive and friendly. The menu has a good selection of dishes to meet the needs of all customers.

This is a bit of a popular local challenge for tourists or friends visiting. I always enjoy going to the ashvale for some chips, one of the better chippies in Elgin.

Regular lunch-time weekly date with my daughter - delicious traditional haddock (in batter) and chips with mushy peas and a put of tea - excellent value at less than £15 for twoRestaurant manager, Brenda, has been there for years and makes sure the place runs like clockwork.

We Had the fish tea s at the ashvale Elgin .fish as fresh it was still moving on plate (joke) lovely tea & the staff very pleasant ,loads of choice , and was quite busy , and not long to wait before you're tea was on the table,great !

Visited the Ashvale today and was really disappointed with the rather abrupt manner from the person who took our order . When our meal arrived the fish was so overcooked it had dried out. This was raised with the person who took our order who's only comment was that she would tell the Chef!!Certainly won't be returning

We have eaten here on numerous occasions, food is always fresh and the fish is the best I've tasted, the staff are always very friendly and helpful.

We decided to try the Ashvale and were very disappointed ! Order a kids scampi meal and when it arrived it had 5 pieces on the plate costing £4.85 ! Husband ordered a breaded haddock and when it arrived it's was battered and had a dry texture,Lemon to accompany meal was so dried up that it couldn't be squeezed !

The batter is so fluffy and light. Definitely the best fish and chip in the world! The sizes come with jumbo, standard and small. The small size is the typical servicing in US.
