Ashoka in Chesterfield

Food is well presented, smells amazing. A little disappointed the paneer in my Noni curry was bland to my taste but mix vegetarian starter was good and other dishes on our table.

Not got a bad word to say. Food was brilliant (especially the tikka masala (according to the wife I’m a proper curry man haha)). Service good, beers good, ambience good

Got a table at short notice , the food was excellent as was the service. Portion size just perfect. The restaurant was very busy but the service was not affected at all . We left property there by mistake, phoned 2 days later, it had been kept safe and I collected, thank you to the staff 😁

I had lamb saag my partner had lamb bhuna garlic Nan and chips was all really lovely

Just ordered a takeaway, spending nearly £60, and super disappointed. The food was cold and the onion bhajis were raw inside and super oily so all in all pretty inedible. We’ve had a takeaway from here before and it was ok and the food tasted fresher, but I wouldn’t come back or recommend after today at all I’m afraid - really bad!

They insist that you sit down while waiting for food. I wanted to stand and they told me to sit down again... the resteraunt was empty so why does it even matter? Then one guy just looks at you gone out. Food was very average, dry chicken and poppadoms are so thin. Second time I've ordered from them, both a year apart and same experience each time, so they obviously won't change any time soon. Won't be going a third time.

I have eaten many times at Ashoka… never had a bad one. Last night we ordered a takeaway for delivery. Prompt fmdivery and the food was excellent. I am a gluten free eater and they were very easy to order from and made it clear which dishes I could eat. Great food again!!

Really good food! Prices aren’t expensive, good price for value. Come out extremely filled. First time coming and certainly won’t be the last.

I went to the restaurant for a light dinner,but they didn't serve me the food as they have a weird rule , u have to order something from all the 4 zones of their menu, otherwise they won't serve you !!!! As I wanted only 2 dishes , they didn't serve !!! Disappointed!!!

We had a superb meal with friends who were visiting from Wales. Very helpful staff, high quality dishes from a varied menu and great value for money.

Food and service were excellent. Only gave 3*s for atmosphere as it was a little chilly in the restaurant. Easily rectifiable and I will be back as overall it was excellent and if you are checking....it also gets 5* on scores on the doors!

A lovely warm welcome from Malik and the Ashoka team on a damp cold November evening. Speedy drinks order and service. Poppadums and pickle trays again brought quickly while we perused the extensive menu. Starters and mains top notch for all four of us, the lamb was so tender and naan’s light and fluffy. A great evening, we were looked after very well and the food was excellent. We will most definitely return!

We went to the Asoka on a quiet evening without having made a prior reservation. Service was prompt and friendly and the Menu had a pleasing range of dishes. We had drinks and shared a meal of Chilli Chicken Rogan , Vegetable Jalfrezi , Tarka Dall , Vegetable Rice and a Keema Nan. The food arrived in good time and was very tasty and well-presented. Nice cosy ambiance to the Restaurant and the cost of the meal was reasonable. We had not eaten here for many years and so this proved to be a most welcome return. To be highly recommended if dining in Chesterfield Town Centre.

This was our first time at the restaurant and the food was absolutely fantastic.The poppadoms and chutney tray were very fresh. Our mains were very tasty and the meat was very tender, chicken and lamb. Malik the owner was excellent too..what a very good experience.

The curry is one of the greatest curry i have ever had. Naan is extremely delicious. I would recommend garlic naan.

Had a take out … Food delicious Popadums soggy and very poor.. Will use again but just avoid the poppadums .. delivery took over an hour- but this is understandable as popular take out…

We had a while to wait on collection even though order had been phoned through an hour before but this is not normally the case. Other than that it was as good as always.

We were a group of 6. Staff very friendly and efficient. 1 of group is a lactose intolerance. The server was spot on with advice about what he can or can’t have and why. We all thought the food was excellent and a few of the group thought it one of their best ever curries. If we return to Chesterfield, would definitely go again.

Bland Bangladeshi food , poor taste, oily. But the service was good & it looked clean. They were polite & courteous. Wish the food was good and they didn't claim they were Indian (they need to feel proud of their own country).

Owner is now ignorant, and although food taste OK my mum recently had a meal here and one day later got took into hospital with Ulcerative Colitis which doctor said could be caused by unclean restaurants! The last time I had a meal here they never bothered to ask if the food was OK, although they did ask my dad right at the end of the food was OK. I would say avoid now... used to be great but not now. There used to be managers running this place back in the good times so think the owner is not very happy at having to now come back and run the place again, RIP were never coming back!

Nice food, not out of the ordinary

Malik and the team offer Excellent service and amazing food at a fair price. Nothing is too much trouble. Since I moved here 8 months ago this has become a firm favourite. Never disappointed.

The person who took the order didn’t explain, and then came another explaining some policies and rules that I have never heard of traveling around the world! The behavior was very rude than explaining - felt like “please get out we don’t serve you” Price in menu is not matching with the bill amount - when questioned again the reply was price increased !! Awful experience ! Will never recommend and never go back! Food wasn’t that great to applaud!

It was a very bad experience . Me and wife had visited once and never ever will go there again . I just asked a one more naan , they said it is a busy time , you cannot order like that, and they are thinking that ,they are giving the food is free and behavior of the staff is very hard.

Beautiful curry yesterday evening both vegetarian and chicken dishes were lovely, I have to say that given a previous issue the customer service and follow up from Mr "Ashoka" has been excellent

Went early doors on a Thursday and we weren’t the first ones in, a good sign. We had booked but arrived early and received a warm welcome. Absolutely superb authentic food. I cook a lot of traditional Indian food myself and this meal was just amazing. No nasty dyed green and red bits in the pilau rice, just spices and large pieces of properly cooked chicken in the curry. We had 4 different dishes between 3 of us and each one was fantastic, no food dye used in these sauces either. If I had to be picky, the pickle tray, while tasty, was a bit watery, however not worthy of knocking any points off the overall experience. Leftovers are packed up for you without even having to ask. Staff were great. We will visit again.

Another amazing meal here last night. This curry house is beautiful. I tried the chicken noni this time, which came with melted cheese on top, it was stunning! The kulcha naan is light and fluffy, onion bhajis were delicious and I ordered another spicy dish of which I can’t remember the name but it was lush. Lovely decor, friendly owner and staff. Top marks from me - again.

Been recommended here by friends and our normal choice was Indian blues however that was shut , so arrived , asked for table for 2 , ordered drinks and food and then the manager came over and said il serve you tonight but il refuse you next time , we ordered 2 drinks , 2 starters , popperdoms , nan bread , A rice and A korma sauce !!! Don’t get what the issue was I found this very rude and WILL not be returning but also will not recommend this place to anyone !! I have visited a lot of places and I have never come across this before ! WHAT A RUDE MAN !!

Very poor etiquette and table service The table was being cleared away when people were still eating their meal, although others had finished! This included even the table mats! The staff were leaning over people to pass food over to others, without any offer of apology After the meal there was No offer of desserts or coffee to round off the meal, and when enquiries were made, they said no one wanted them anymore! We Think it will be a visit to the other Indian restaurant lower down the road. Poor place to bring friends who had travelled to Chesterfield and had never been there before- We WONT be returning

Delivery was late and when receiving the food it was only just warm. Taste of the curry was soapy and unpleasant to try to eat. After spending £30 on food and unable to enjoy it, it’s alittle disappointing.

Googling Indian restaurants while in Chesterfield for a few days and Ashoka came up as just 3 minutes walk from the Premier Inn and 5 star ratings. We hadn't booked but we're offered a table as long as we were finished within 1 1/2 hours...

I have been today with my friend, staff rude never offering or interested with us decided to hoover up while we having our dinner. Just rude. Never offered any puds and plates was snitch from us. Will never go back. Just rude.

Me and my partner went for a meal at ashoka and it was an amazing overall experience. The food was excellent as was the customer service. We will definitely be returning in the near future.

Not great! If you know what a good curry tastes like. It used to be excellent! But new owners have taken over. The staff don't wear uniforms ect. Think they are just going for the people coming out of the pubs. Shame. Also prices are really high.

Our order was £72.50 and our order was missing items which included the starters rice and mains. When we rang up the owner accused us of lying about our missing items. The items missing accounted up to £20 so we only received only £50 of our order. The owner claimed to have packed the order himself and insisted that we are lying about the missing items. We are not happy.

Recently moved from Surrey after going to the same Indian Restaurant for 36 years did not think we could match it in Chesterfield. Ashoka have proved us wrong. Amazing food, lovely friendly staff and great atmosphere. Will definitely be regulars.
