Ashers in Highland

Lunch on Wednesday 27 March at Ashers Giles Centre, Elgin.I would like to comment the two staff who served me- Jayne and Mary Ann. They were friendly, helpful and made it a great experience for me. I wish all catering staff could adopt their ethos. Well done Ashers for having two such great people working for you.

The worst mug of tea ever! Left a terrible taste in my mouth … no pot, no teabag, no cup n saucer and service without a smile! The poor older lady was obviously not having her best day as she couldn’t smile nor could she make polite conversation … just went through the basics to get the job done so she could move on to the next customer, which was a shame as it was the first day the sun had shon and we had decided to go for a walk up the riverside and around the harbour! We usually go to the harbour cafe (Basil/Bazil) however today it was shut as was the sundancer so we thought we would try the next best thing … at least we thought it was! How wrong were we? I wish we’d just gone home and stopped off at the local coop for teabags and milk as it certainly would’ve been cheaper than the £5 we paid for the privilege of drinking what i can only imagine what dishwater tastes like! There was a gentleman leaving at the same time who also aired his disappointment … defo won’t be back and if you enjoy your tea as much as i do - stay home and make your own or go to the Basil/Bazil where you get a cup n saucer, pot of tea with teabags, milk in a jug and sugar all served with happy smiling chatty staff (when it’s open that is!)

Excellent high street baker shop and cafe with capable and helpful, polite staff. Hot or cold savouries and cakes to eat in or take away. Prices are fairly average for the type of service. Asher's is an established family business and a firm favourite in Nairn. Highly recommended!

Used to be very good, the cakes are still probably very nice but the place has become tired. It is a shame because a few newer cafes in the area now, are far more on the ball with customer service and menu.

Husband and I visited with our two grandsons. 2 soups ordered and 2 filled rolls. Soup was lovely but served with thin crusts of bread! Rolls could have done with a bit more 'filling'

Recent holiday in Nairn. Popped into this bakers twice in the week. Served by a lovely friendly gentleman both times. Bread and rolls excellent. Wish we lived nearer.

It was very nice we stopped in to get some macaroni pies and sausage rolls , they were lovely. Service was good and overall nice experience!!

Good quality local bakers with helpful and friendly staff.

Came in to have some lunch rude older counter assistant literally told us off for going into cafe. Then ordered the lunch time deal with younger assistant who was shouted at by older lady not available until 12 it was 1130, no information showing about times or would have happily ordered something else. What a shame for the Ashers brand will certainly not be returning perhaps training in customer etiquette required !!

The 2 ladies working today behind counter have a serious attitude problem.. both gang up on the customers…

It's okay, staff could be abit more polite. I prefer the one without the cafe, As the staff at the cafe bit are rude and snappy. Can't even make a cuppa, hot water and milk! I ordered a few items and she was like one at a time. I mean, just re word how you speak to paying customers who pay your wage love!

Had bacon rolls, alright, two pieces of bacon, more fat than bacon.

Service wasint great Linda the assistant manager was very rude towards us this morning, made us feel like inconvenients, also mucked up or order's gave us 2 link sausages in a roll instead off one link one lorne , all in all not the best experience

Love going to Asher’s for cakes. The bakery has a cafe and staff serve great cakes and food. Well worth a visit.

Ideal place to pop in for a cuppa and a cake. Nice coffee and friendly efficient staff. Excellent Bakery if you want a" Fancy Piece" to take home as well.

Food is so good and staff are very friendly and helpful, especially good with young children. Don't hesitate to help bring your tray to your table or, on one occasion in the past when my youngest was too little to walk, took my order at the table and brought it out to us. Amazing service.

First visit as visiting area. Didnt find a friendly welcome, bit of an odd atmosphere really. Maybe they didnt like my London accent .dont know .quite abrupt service.no need to return as wont be returning to nairn anyway. I got the feeling they like their local regulars but anyone else.go somewhere else ...

This is a bakers and a cafe. Usual cakes, pies,sausage rolls and savories. You can take away or sit in. Good for morning breakfast and lunches as well

A small place but first class food and first class service. Friendly staff. Well worth a visit. Worth five stars

We went daily for our Excellent Malted Blackla loaf which we managed to eat on a daily basis. Three types of whisky cake ( Hiccup ) loads of liquer cakes and the pies etc are worth the trip daily.

Friendly staff and a good choice of quick snacks. Ashers never lets one down, wherever they are. Try the steak bakes and steak pies - plenty of meat in them.

When we are holiday to Nairn we go here for a snack or lunch and the food is great for a quick bite to eat. Staff are friendly and always laughing with you. Their scotch pies are gorgeous!

I'm in here now and again for work. The tea and coffee is horrible, like dishwater, even when I ask the girls to leave the teabag in my cup, the teabags are such poor, cheap quality you cant get a decent cuppa from it. Their bread and rolls are good so the sandwiches are generally fine though a bit pricey, they also offer "a bit of side salad" if you're sitting in but then sneakily charge extra for it if you say yes. Their cakes , with a few exceptions are cheap tasting though some of the cream cakes and doughnuts are nice, cant recommend any of the small cakes, taste cheap,some of them have an oddly chalky texture and anything with chocolate on, well, if you like cheap cooking chocolate you'll love them but otherwise no. More than anything, the middle shop is not a nice place to sit, too cramped, same old biddies there all the time taking up all the space and worst of all, the toilets are right in the centre of the seating area and the smell of the very cheap air freshener that they use in there constantly wafts out and its really nauseating. This is a place that really benefits from a lack of competition.

Looking for a lite bite we decided to try this coffee shop. It was 2.30 in the afternoon and when the waitress came to our table she advised us it was coffees only as the kitchen was closed..yet the coffee shop was open till 4pm. Anyhow we decided to go elsewhere but my wife bought some small cakes from the shop before leaving. They were overpriced and certainly not fresh. Very disappointing for a so called award winning bakery. McLeans highland bakery , which we also tried is by far the better choice.

This is a great wee bakery shop with café in the back. Had cake and coffee and the kids had chips and soda.

I do not usually do this as a rule, but I thought that I would share my experience this time of this cafe. We went in as a family group (3 x adults & 1 child under 5) for our Saturday lunch as we were in the area. Our order was taken at the counter by a young female around 15-16 years old and there seemed to be one person in charge of the café and 3-5 junior girls doing the meal prep/drinks and also the table service. We had ordered a Ploughmans lunch, Plate of soup with bread, Macaroni Pie with Chips, Cheese & ham toastie, 3 x soft drinks and a cup of coffee. Well that all cost a staggering £32, to then we were served a Ploughmans lunch which had lettuce, grated cheese, pickle, 2 x slices of cucumber, 1 x slice of tomato & some red onions. No meat in site! The mug of coffee was very small, the chips had a really strange taste like they had been double fried, the vinegar on the table was like water and had no taste or smell of vinegar. The place seemed to have a steady stream of counter and café customers, so seemed to be fairly popular in town. I did not complain in the shop when we were there as I just wanted to get out.

A good wee cafe, perfect for a regular brew. Staff have all the banter, always get a friendly face when you go in. Good selection of bakery goods, hot meals and drinks.

Decent wee bakers could do with a lick of paint, get that display cabinet fixed meat sandwiches should not be stored in a fridge which hovers between 12/18 degrees

I had a bacon roll and donut. My husband had soup and a bridie. All over good. Plenty choices on the menu. We had a pot of tea too. Not expensive. Would recommend. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would recommend.

I visited Ashers in Nairn with my cat on 7 May 2019. I was hungry for breakfast as I had come on a train.The egg sandwich was perfect as was the apple Danish pastry. They have lots of tables for eating. The best bit was the ladies at the counter liked my cat. I was very impressed. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone especially those of us who depend upon a friend with four paws. I will definitely be back.

we met up with family to originally get a coffee there were 7 of us so went into ashers tea room read the menu and decided to have the breakfast which was amazing also very well priced staff were excellant and service was quick will definately go back

Met my Godmother for a cuppa Tea & Cake, well a Iron Bru Cupcake when in Nairn. Travelled from Gosport, Hampshire. It was so light & yummy. I usually have something with caramel, absolutely adore their caramel, but never seen this cupcake before, so it had to be donw. Friend counter staff.

Great wee cafe for a bacon roll and mug of coffee. Nothing fancy but it’s freshly prepared and reasonably priced. Ideal for a quick pit stop.

Nice latte, no syrup. I suppose it was healthy.

We were in Nairn and decided to call into Ashers on the off chance for a coffee and cake. Both coffee and cake was just perfect as was the service from the staff. If in Nairn again, we will go back.

Service wasn't great. We weren't given any cutlery for our soup or scones, we also weren't given jam or butter for the scones. Each time we asked for something we should have gotten it seemed like we were bothering them. It's not the cheapest place either but the food tastes nice.

We had reasonably priced cooked breakfast, hot and tasty. Friendly staff . Cakes and bakery goods looked lovely.

Such lovely friendly staff, they have us a a warm welcome and served us tea and coffee with delicious fresh scones. There was also a good variety of cakes available but we revisited them. Very reasonably priced at £6 for the lot!

Nice and clean, with friendly staff. I had a lovely bun stuffed with bacon and runny fried egg. Coffee is excellent too. Keep clear of the generic ketchup as it’s too vinegary.

Ogni giorno durante il nostro soggiorno a Nairn, mio marito passava a prendere la colazione da Ashers Bakery. Io adoro i croissant ed è più difficile di quanto sembra trovarne uno salato, il mio preferito, fuori dall’Italia. Ho assaggiato il loro, sofficissimo, enorme, squisito. Tra il dolce e il salato, perfetto. Ci siamo concessi anche scones, biscotti, krapfen... non abbiamo mai fatto colazione all’interno perché il nostro cottage era a 2 minuti ma sicuramente meritava una visita, prossima volta! Servizio cortese e velocissimo, personale gentile. Lo consigliamo a chi vuole concedersi una coccola, iniziare la giornata così è davvero fantastico!

All great apart from the cappuccino was not nice at all .

Perfectly lovely staff, excellent hospitality and pleasant enough surroundings. However, although the food selection is great the bread for my sandwich was stale, no salad was added and the side of chips was well over cooked. Having said that, the fillings were delicious, I'm not sure which butter they used and wish I'd asked but it was amazing.

-minus a star. Diabolical. Food we ordered was discussing and drinks were cold. Won't be going back.

Just love Ashers ! fantastic fresh food, hot and cold. Good for popping in for a coffee and cake or Scotch Pie ,Bridie etc Breakfasts are lovely , very reasonable prices. Would highly recommend a visit.

Fousty smell coming from the toilets

Friendly staff and good food on offer. Eating area was small with about 6 tables but clean and well looked after.

A classic bakers with a cafe with friendly service and honest food at reasonable prices. If you are looking for a quick light bite, be it breakfast or lunch Ashers can do it. Just like Scottish High Streets as they used to be.

I went into this cafe around 3:30/40 and ordered roll with egg and sausage, only to be told the kitchen was closed. Three to four young staff were standing around in kitchen area. I was advised to go to the bakery counter at the front of the building and order a sausage roll!! Very different from a freshly baked roll, sausage ane egg! I decided to have a cake instead - the choice was so limited. I took a scone, my least favourite type of snack but there was nothing else. Very disappointed! Staff were friendly enough but seemed to lack a willingness to go beyond what they had to do.

Look what I bought in Ashers bakery last week, two Highland Cow cup cakes. It was almost a shame to eat them, but we enjoyed them all the same.

Always enjoy eating here when in Nairn. Great coffee and pastries are my favourite, but don’t forget to buy bread as well.

We called here for a coffee and I had a plain scone. I have never tasted a scone so beautiful! It was light and fluffy and melted in my mouth.

Popped in for a tea and coffee a good selection of cakes to tempt you and take away for later on at home.

Called in for morning coffee. Bakery at the front, with tables at the back. Saturday staff welcoming, Jacket potato and Scotch pie arrived quite quickly, although there was some debate as to whether the pie came with salad! Loos easy access and clean

standard cafe, nothing special. can be really annoying to get into at times as theres seating outside and the same people are always there with friends gathered around and you have to squeeze by. Ashers food seems to have dropped in quality over the years but increased in price (not dramatically but noticeable) Would only go in now if i needed something quickly

A good bakers but a wee bit pricey, the High street has 2 'Ashers bakery' shops which is not good for competitive pricing. A Greggs would be great for the town especially the High St.

once again we had a great lunch in Ashers always come here when we are in Nairn our daughters ordered dolphin cakes so we had to take some back ordered them and picked them up on way home food is good value and freshly made

Fab friendly staff, great place for meeting with friends or just a cup of coffee before you go home.

Trip home, always have to have my fix of the above. There are 2 Asher's in Nairn, this one has a small sitting area outside, as well as inside. The other is at the top of town & the cafe is called The Wee Blether.
