Waited for an hour for three breakfasts, absolutely chaotic even though it was not too busy. By the time the food arrived the waitress (who was very nice) apologised and offered complimentary drinks. A few minutes later she returned to say the manager told her that she could not give us free tea / coffee. The whole experience at Asa is at best poor, food has taken a nose dive, and as for the management please don’t get me started. Used to be a regular treat but not anymore. Plus very poor hygiene in the bakery, no hairnets, eating and drinking in a food prep area, needs a full overhaul. As someone who works in the food industry at BRC level it was shocking to witness.

Awful! £22 and the time I will never get back. Vile lunch, turkey sandwich was just turkey from the deli warmed up, the take was full of butter, on the bottom outside leaving a hand full of butter! Peas were horrid, chips were frozen, and hard as hell. Will NOT be returning again!

The best cafe in Yorkshire! Our family favourite. We visit at Christmas and always have a warm welcome and the breakfasts are just unbelievable! The full English breakfast is delicious and the bagels some highly recommended. There is plenty of toast to go with it. The local produce is so tasty! My children enjoy the milkshakes and choosing a bakery treat to take home!

Hello, went to your shop at Keelham Bakers asked for a turkey sandwich and was told that they’re not doing cold food till 12 o’clock. The next customer walked in asked for a ham salad sandwich and was had it made when asked Staff why the gentleman we spoke to was rude, ignorant, and didn’t want to help Will not be using your services again as we were very disgusted of the way we’ve been treated

This farm shop has really gone down hill. All the Christmas decorations were covered in dust (last years stock that they couldn't even try and make presentable!). The animals looked neglected. There was no soap or paper towels to use at the sinks after seeing the animals. The whole place just stunk. To top it off, there was a huge piece of bone and gristle in my daughters chicken pie. Absolutely disgusting. The response from management was that this was only the second issue reported about bones in the pies this year!! Apparently they have a disclaimer on the packaging stating "may contain bones" so that it's our responsibility not theirs! Disgraceful attitide.

Mark F took my order and made us all feel extremely welcome. Great ambience, fantastic prices and super quality. I cheekily asked for a BIG piece of cake and he happily obliged. We will definitely return here. We have had "proper" food here previously and it was scrumptious. We looked over to see people having afternoon tea and it looked stunning. We shall return for our own afternoon tea before too long. Excellent service, quality and pricing.....what more can you ask for.

Our first visit to this farm shop and we were pleasantly surprised. Saturday lunch time and very busy. So well stocked, lots of staff restocking shelves etc. The deli counter is great, lovely pies, etc, so tasty, the meat counter again was overflowing with tempting produce, great selection of fruit and veg, wine, beer and spirits too. We bought some beautiful cherry vine tomatoes, white onions, some amazing white bread baps and from the deli/chill counter a piece of meat and potato pie, cheese and onion pasty and a sausage roll. We also bought a cherry Bakewell slice, flapjacks and a brownie! All absolutely delicious! And this was a flying visit! The takeaway sounds very handy, we saw the garden centre but didn’t look round it this time, we did wonder where the cafe and bakery was but I believe it is at a nearby location. We intend to return soon but on a weekday when it might be not so busy, we will explore all areas including the animal croft and try the cafe too. The shop isn’t as well presented as Keelham farm shop in Skipton, but is probably better in terms of produce. What a find!

I took an elderly lady who has just been widowed last Saturday 23rd July. I notice on the door is said closed at 3. We went in at 2.43 to be told very abruptly we are closed. I said it says 3pm on the door and it is only 2.45. Answer again, we are closed. Shops close at 5 but don’t turn customers away 15 minutes before. Absolutely appalled by their manner. We called yesterday for an annual meeting with a friend and ordered a Christmas lunch. He ordered steak pie, which,we were told, was not available. Therefore he ordered corned beef slab with chips and peas. The Christmas dinners, looked more like, dogs dinners and were like warm. The Yorkshire pudding was hard and had a peculiar taste. The corned beef slab was also Luke warm with anaemic chips. We had been presented with a bill, before we had been served with any food and also asked by another member of staff,if we had enjoyed our food,we told her,we hadn't had any yet. This was treat by a friend and to say we were all very disappointed is an under statement. Our friend complained bitterly and was rewarded with the substitution of a meal and a coffee. We have visited Asa Nicholsons over many many years and always had a good experience. What a great shame that the new owners cannot follow in their footsteps.Sorry, but we will not be returning.

Visited in half term with husband and two sons, it wasn't anything special, usually farm shops are amazing. Oldest son got a chicken burger and he didn't enjoy it mine and husbands sandwiches were boring bog standard and onion relish was very sweet! Younger son got a brownie and hot chocolate, he did love the brownie but said he liked the hot chocolate at home better which is lidls own for £1! It cost £30 and enjoy wetherspoons more , it just seemed like a greasy spoon, such a shame. On a better note service was great and all staff were friendly. Don't like to be negative but hopefully some changes will be made for the better and it will do well.

The last five reviews say it all. The new owners have ruined what was a delightful old fashioned cafe. The reduced menu, changing from tea pots to mugs and the increased prices combine to bring the place down to the level of a mediocre market cafe.

We have frequented this cafe for many years but it has now been taken over by Robertshaw’s farm shop and the service and food quality has hit rock bottom. We went for breakfast - the toast had obviously been left in the toaster after toasting so had dried to a crisp, the bacon had been cooked to death so was hard. We asked for our fried eggs to be flipped not incinerated! The extra menu items are priced per item - 1 sausage, one rasher of bacon etc. We weren’t asked how many of each item we wanted so two of each item arrived and we were charged accordingly. What has happened to the teapot and pot of hot water!? A mug of tea with milk already in and a cup of coffee with no saucer. A once lovely cafe/ tea room has now become a mediocre transport cafe. When paying the bill I was asked if everything was alright - I said no and the price of the drinks was knocked off the bill and I was offered an item from the bakery counter. Now that the shop and takeaway has been moved into the tea room you also have to queue up behind shop and takeaway customers in order to pay the tea room bill. A separate till for the tea room should be reinstated. We live within a 15 minute drive but sadly we will not be coming back unless there is a return to the old ‘Asa Nicholson’ standards we have always enjoyed. Breakfast for 3 - £23 but certainly not worth it.

I have always gone to asa for years, despite living quite a way away. I have not been for six months due to my partner being clinically vulnerable, when we arrived we were given a single A4 menu which had half the items they offered previously. I ordered the big breakfast. It was one of the worst meals I have had. The fried egg was over cooked and hard. The sausages were so rubbery you could bounce them off the wall. We asked for tea for two and instead of a pot of tea we were provided with two cups of weak tea which they charged £2.10 per cup !!. My partner actually asked for a teabag as the tea was so weak and they couldn’t drink it. Since being taken over by Robertson’s farm shop the food quality has taken a serious nosedive and I would not recommend anyone getting food there anymore,

We had been to the farm shop, up the road, and felt peckish, I remembered using this place some years ago, on a regular basis, whilst working in the area, so it must be 10 years since I last visited. I gave a glowing report, to my wife, about how good the food was, oh dear, how times change. It was around 10.30 on the Sunday morning, the place was quiet, we took a seat, and chose our breakfasts, and waited, and waited. One staff member had friends or family in the cafe, and went to sit with them, eventually a young man came to take our order, which, to be fair arrived quickly, and looked OK, except for a couple of missing items, we couldn`t be bothered waiting any longer, so ate what we were given, which was quite tasty, when paying, the usual "was everything OK", was the question, when I explained about the missing items, no response was forthcoming, except of course the full price was asked for.I paid but will not be returning any time soon, sadly.

After attending a morning business meeting in Thornton and having had an early start with no breakfast went to this place on the recommendation of others who said it was very good. Unfortunately my experience did not match that recommendation. I treated this as 'brunch' as it was nearly eleven o'clock and some people had come in for lunch. I ordered the breakfast which came with toast and a drink of your choice (Tea or Coffee). The food came and Lukewarm is how I would describe the food and the service. The sausages were 'rustic' in their consistency and pretty tasteless and they were lukewarm. The bacon was also lukewarm and a bit 'stringy'. There was a nice looking 'sunny side up' egg which turned out to be cold. The baked beans were also cold. The mushrooms were well cooked but again they were lukewarm. On a brighter note the toast was OK and the coffee was nice but it was also ... lukewarm!

Firstly we can't review the food as we didn't get served. We entered the cafe at 3:20. There were 4 staff , 3 ladies and a young chap . We were not greeted or acknowledged . We chose a table., occupancy of the place was not even 50%. A waitress was chatting away merrily to 3 customers on the next table for 10 minutes , then she took their order and went over to the till to input it. My friend went over to her and asked was this self service? He was told no it was table service. More people entered the cafe and seated themselves. It seemed like pot luck if anyone noticed you. The original waitress returned with her first order and proceed to chat and gossip again with her regular customers. Fifteen minutes after we had first entered people who had arrived after us had their order taken, my friend beckoned the young ( high school student ? ) guy over and told him , could he possibly take our order after theirs, we had been here longest. We did not even get a sorry. We ordered two simple meals, one fish and chips, one sausage and chips. The waiter returned and said, " Sausage Off, but everything else is on , my buddy ordered, gammon, surprise , surprise, two minutes later that was " finished" , so he ordered steak and kidney pie ,( remember, everything else was available ) 2 minutes later that was off.Well at this point we had had enough. We had been there 22 minutes and they could not sort out a couple of meals! We think they just could not be bothered So some advice to the owners 1) you pay your staff to serve not gossip. 2) we would have spent £20 plus but we walked out because of the non-service. How many more have done that ? 3) you might consider that this is not the first review you have about couldn't care less attitude being displayed by your staff. 4) you could get more productivity out of the right staff , it was obvious that no one was supervising the place I reckon you could half your salary costs if you had less but more efficient waiting staff 5) If two customers get up to leave I would expect someone to ask why? Not just stand and grin behind the counter. Anyway we will not be back, and we will not be stopping in the shop to buy anything anymore.

We've been to this café a few times in the last four months since we returned to live in Yorkshire, so this isn't a "one-off" review - more of a long-term assessment. The food is excellent - but the waitresses are the worst we've ever seen. If you're a regular, you are served before people who came in before you and the waitress will have a nice chat with you. If you're not one of the "in-crowd" you will be ignored when you arrive, left to find your own table and then you will have to wait - watching the staff having a chat behind the counter - for an average of eight minutes (remember this is a long-term assessment). We have walked out in disgust on one previous occasion, given them another chance - and had exactly the same treatment on our next visit. If Asa Nicholoson's want to be a success, I would suggest sacking the whole bunch of waitresses and starting again with a new lot - this place runs for the benefit of the staff, not the customer. We will not be returning - ever !

Having heard about Asa Nicholsons from several of our friends who visit the Tea Room regularly , hubby and I decided to treat ourselves to breakfast here this morning.Free car park- always good Easily found a table and friendly young man took our order of two full breakfasts , toast and tea or coffee. The food arrived quickly and we settled into enjoying probably the best ever cooked breakfast I've ever had ( and we do eat out quite a lot)The portions were plentiful , the quality of the food was exceptional ( particularly the bacon and black pudding) , large rack of toast , enough to have with the jam provided in with the price and wonderful coffee with a pot of hot water to top up and have several cups. After enjoying our breakfast we paid at the till to the pleasant and polite young man and I couldn't leave before complimenting the ladies who were cooking.Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to " Asas" And we will definitely go again!

Was recommended by a friend to try this place, we were not disappointed. The food was very good and value for money. I would recommend booking as it gets very very busy. The staff are pleasant, the service pretty quick and a good choice in food. Highly recommended.

Extremely disappointed with the quality of the food we had fish & chips what we thought would be fresh was actually a frozen rectangular tasteless fish & frozen chips . This was the 2nd time we had been 1st visit ended up with mouldy cake & lukewarm coffee . Do not intend to revisit the cafe.

Called for brunch, busy and expected a bit if a wait. Didnt take as long as I anticipated. Young chap came and took my order, extremely polite, pleasant and with a smile. Had my poached eggs on toast.....superb...and the same guy who served me took payment. Still smiling and wishing me a good day. How rare and probably why they are busy. Great food and good value. I did try to leave a comment via their website. ....not as user friendly as their staff! What ever they do training wise works. Well done.

We arrived around 12.30 and were able to get a table although the place was fairly busy and the meals looked nice. We'd been online before and the Cornish slab seemed to be very popular so we chose that and a cup of tea and pop. We were served very promptly by a lovely young girl and the food came very soon after. The portions were plentiful and the food was delicious. My daughter had apple pie and cream for pudding and that was again an ample portion that even she struggled to finish. I was able to bring my remaining Cornish slab home in a box as I was too full to finish it. We would definitely go again.

We had passed this place many times and decided to call in for Lunch one day.My only issue with this place was the amount of time before we were served, especially as the Staff had time to chat amongst themselves.I chose Steak and Kidney pie, my wife chose the Cottage pie, both were served with ample Vegetables and a Gravy Boat between us.My pie was wonderful short crust pastry and really full of Steak and Kidney. We also had a lovely dessert, mine Bilberry Pie, my wife opting for the Fruit Cake with Wensleydale Cheese. One comment on the truly wonderful and ample coffee, it was as good as you could hope to find.

I was quite disappointed with this café. The inside was gloomy so I sat outside on a picnic bench. It was waitress service only but as I was outside and nobody could see me, I went inside to give my order. I was firstly ignored, then snapped at and told to wait. Finally an irritable lady took my order; a cake from a small uninspiring selection (it is a bakery!) and a coffee. The coffee was nice but the Victoria sponge was filled with fake cream. Nowhere to lock my bike so fastened it to the picnic bench.

No mass produced rubbish here. It's a great place and all the bread, cakes and extras are excellent. I'd recommend the Russian slice, rum truffles , vanilla slices but basically anything you choose , you'll like .. Top spot and very traditional:)

I'll admit this is a regular port of call. Asa's gives that old fashioned, quiet no fuss tea room feeling. Service was quick and polite, my egg banjo had three golden yolk beauties in a meal size fresh baked tea cake. Pot of tea for one with two bags and a pot of hot water for a top up. A visit to the bakery shop ensured an expansion of the waist line. If you expect: chrome, neon and piped musak then carry on down to McPlastic food and leave room for those of us that enjoy old fashioned service.

We were recommended to visit so were surprised to find a crowded cafe slightly grubby with dated decor. The waitress did not know what "haverbread" was as listed on the menu - but we ordered one anyway, and a further hot sandwich and tea for two. The tea arrived promptly although the milk was in a teapot the same as the hot water. My tea ended up extra milky as I got muddled. After a long wait - during which I wandered over to look at the small cake display - then waited again - we asked how much longer we would have to wait. Our order had disappeared - we never did find out what haverbread was as we left. The couple on the next table said they had lost their order once too - but the food was worth the risk. Fortunately the bakery shop next door was open and had delicious Cornish pasties, bilberry pie and vanilla slices!

Called in one saturday lunch for coffee, the resteraunt was about half full and we found a table and waited at least 15 mins before being approached by waitress. We ordered 1 latte 1 tea took ages to come. When the latte arrived it was loads of froth covering what only can be described as warm tastless milk.I did notice when people arrive and sit down no staff take any notice,we saw 2 people leave never ordering anything. When we went to pay we returned coffee to show how poor it was,the young lad on the till was more bothered about table number than quality of drink we were complaining about, heh even just carried on as if nothing was wrong and charged for both drinks. It was only when we repated complaint he knocked price of coffee off.In my opinion this place needs someone in charge making sure all tables are attended to and how to deal with complaints would help.

Was heading out for pub lunch with a friend, but saw the crowded car park and thought we would give this place a try. We werent sure what to expect, and well it's a cafe... I expected more home baked on display, but it reminded me of the old fashioned truck cafes. We had the 'homemade' soup, mushroom - and this was NOT homemade, and it was not nice either! The tea was stewed within an inch of its life yuck. We had the Quiche, which was homemade and in all fairness nice BUT it was served with frozen chips, now for the price we paid we could have had a pub lunch.I can't understand how this place is so popular, it was almost full - unless it was good once and has gone downhill badly...

I went Saturday Morning 18/7/15 with my girlfriend who had lived in the area for 30 years since she was a child. When it describes itself as a tea room you get the impression of friendly staff serving tea and cakes and light and airy environment. What I saw was abit of a dirty road side cafe really. When we arrived it wasn't clear as to did you find a table and someone would come take your order or did you go to the till order pay and someone brought you your food? Since nobody said hello when you walked in instead just walking past barging you out the way and there was menus on the table we assumed you just found a table and someone would come take an order. We waited a good ten minutes and nobody came to us so my girlfriend went to the till and still wasn't acknowledged. We decided to sack it off at this point and just get a few cakes from shop next door. I cannot comment on the food as clearly they weren't in the mood for service. The staff in the shop were friendly though. Maybe they should go work in the cafe next door sorry I mean 'tearoom'. Won't be going back I reckon.

Having lived within walking distance of Asa Nicholson's for over 30 years I had always wanted to walk up for a pig of tea and a homemade scone or slice of cake. My boyfriend and I decided to do this on Saturday morning. On arrival we walked in - were not acknowledged by anyone and it was difficult to see whether you just found a table and sat down and were served or whether you were supposed to just order at the counter.Since there were menus on the tables we just sat down and had a look through the menu. The tearoom wasn't busy - maybe a third full. No one approached us to try and take our order so in the end (a good 10 minutes later) I got up with my purse and went to the till/counter to try and order. No one acknowledged us, despite the fact I was stood with money in my hand wanting to order drinks. We waited there about 5 minutes before deciding to leave. Not a friendly smile or a 'hello'. I can't comment on quality of food/drinks because I never got served. In the end we went next door to the bakery shop and got scones to talk home. The staff in the shop were very polite and helpful - shame the same couldn't be said for the actual tearoom.

I have been here 3 or 4 times this year and quite a few times the previous. To start i must say, i believe this is the best place for a breakfast anywhere in West Yorkshire. All the produce is from local farmers, the bacon, sausage, eggs are all of high quality. Thick, tasty and cooked however you like. The large breakfast is in fact large. And great value for money.I recommend this place to all friends and family. And have taken family who also rated this place very high.Great food, location and value

Just popped in with my family for some lunch today. We ordered beer battered fish and chips twice and lasagne for my Sister. The fish was generally awful, tasteless and very oily especially the chips. My Sister said that the lasagne was dry and not very nice. Haven't been to the Roebuck for ages but thought we would give it a try. In all fairness the lady who served us asked if everything was okay and we said it could have been better, just replied. I will tell him about it. Probably meaning her boss or the chef. No offer of anything else or money back. We definitely won't be going back.
