Fantastic food, but the place is freezing cold and waiting time is terrible, by the time our food arrived our tea was cold (did give us another pot for free)

Our cycling group arrived today, with one of the team injured by a fall. The staff went out of their way to help, they cleaned the wounds and patched him up expertly. We thank you very much and as always rate food and service excellent. Coggeshall Randonneurs

I think the Assington has got better still and we always loved it before. The vege breakfast was amazing, one of the best I've had. Was very well set up for distancing etc. Highly recommend.

No volvería otra vez.

went for lunch had taken my 4 year old twin grandchildren, simply took absolutely ages before the food came out I'd say around 50 minutes for a sandwich and fishfingers it would have been quicker to drive home! One point I would like to add my grandaughter had a knife dropped on her head by a waitress who was putting cutlery away on the till counter surely that needs to be revised health and safety and all that!

Popped in for a coffee/cake on our way to Colchester and did not regret it Very friendly girl welcomed us and said she would be with us shortly to take our order When we ordered we commented that the place had vastly improved - she could not thank us enough...very touching and sweet Our cream scone and teacake arrived along with delicious hot coffee. Very yummy especially the scone even though I do not like dried frut Surprised that bill was under £10 when we paid....very good value Had a walk around to see the animals and popped into the excellent farm shop and purchased beautiful English Strawberries and Asparagus Well worth a visit, can highly recommend We will be back

This was our 3rd try since change of ownership, and it was no better. Waiting time is totally unacceptable, especially when only waiting for uncooked items? The first time we put it down to settling in but nothing changed by last visit. Also when the food was brought up not as described in menu and I complained it was just taken away and no alternative offered?

Very cold. Bad draft everytime door opened. I ordered the burger. Waited 45mins for our food. Burger itself was ok but the bun was poor. A 10p Sesame seed bun that was dry and crumbled away. Fries were average, typically cheap tasting. Lettuce was starting to turn brown, it was bagged lettuce which I hate with a passion, £10 for all this which I think is rather overpriced. Heard another complaint about the burger too. Cakes looked alright and my coffee tasted nice.

A great place for a light lunch, now open again, new management & improving all the time. Very reasonably priced (£7.50 for a cream tea for 2!!) Give it a look, long with the shop stocking fab local produce, it may not be very big but it makes up for it with the quality of the food & drink

Interesting and slightly quirky tea room with an eclectic style leaning towards the nostalgic; as part of a developing farm shop complex in the village of Assington I have watched this venue gradually develop and improve over the last few years and am very pleased that the business appears to continue to improve despite the poor economy. The food and drink served is the usual tea room fare of sandwiches, baguettes, baked potatoes and soup but always of good quality and plentiful. I am not a big cake fan but the ones I have eaten here are, I must say, very good indeed. The place can get busy and seems a favoured watering hole of groups of retired folk on tour or just out for lunch, maybe is the rather thoughtful provision of a set of reading glasses tucked into the top of the menus on each table. The ladies who run the place are very pleasant and welcoming and although service can sometimes be a little slow it is the sort of place where you don’t really mind too much. On occasion they do close the tea rooms to run a craft course and I have been along a couple of times to find the doors locked and a course running inside so check first if you are travelling a long way. Three stars for the food and coffee, and a fourth because it’s quirky and the people who run it are nice and care which is a lot rarer than it should be in some of the local tea rooms. Recommended, as long as you’re not in a rush or need to be anywhere else at a particular time.

We stopped off for a light lunch on our way to the Case nearby. Very pleasant setting looking out at the Shetland pony and the emus. Plenty of choice of sandwiches, paninis , baguettes etc. We chose to share a sandwich and a fruit scone. Both were very nice. Sandwich served with salad, coleslaw and some crisps. There's also a gift shop and a farm shop to look round.

A really superb tea rooms, gorgeous homecooked food, great selection and lovely staff, we called in just for tea (pretty bone china cups and saucers) and ended up with scones fresh from the oven, delicious!! We will certainly be going back and would highly reccomend to others. There is also a gift shop and plant sales alongside and a farm shop next door.

We found this place whilst visiting my aunt who is in a nursing home in the area. It was a lovely place to take her as they had great homemade scones and delicious soup in the tea room. There was also a good gift shop with loads of bling for my daughter! We enjoyed the farm shop as they had smoked fish from Orford which is one of our favorites and the whole area was on one level with no steps which meant Aunty could toddle around comfortably, without us panicking! We will be back

This was an unexpected find. Lovely tearoom serving delicious paninis and cakes. The tea is served in quaint china cups and saucers. Very relaxed atmosphere. An added bonus is that a Home Accessories and Gift shop has opened in the other end of the barn and they sell delightful little gems, totally different from the run of the mill gifts. A farm shop is also on site as well as unusual animals. Well worth a visit with the family.

A lovely tea room / cafe with friendly staff. Food was lovely and tea is served in lovely china cups. A very pleasant place to have lunch and well worth a visit. For those with children there are a variety of animals adjacent to The Barn, including birds that look like emus! After a bite to eat you can pop in the farm shop which sells a good range of local produce. I partcularly like their cakes and biscuits.

We celebrated my sisters 50th birthday here ! We had the private function room upstairs which has recently been refurbished and it was lovely. We were allowed in early to decorate with banners and balloons. Baring in mind we were a large group and all opted for three courses the food was still all served together so we had no one waiting, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We couldn't fault it all :) A few of the family stayed and were extremely happy with rooms and the yummy breakfast :)

Requested a twin room but arrived to be shown into a double. Couldn't be changed until the following day apparently! Went down for breakfast on Saturday morning at about 8:30 (breakfast served from 8 - 10). No staff apart from the cleaner. She kindly tried to provide some tea, milk and cereals - and bread. So we made do without a cooked breakfast (included in the rate we paid). At about 9:10 a young lady appeared who offered us a cooked breakfast just as we were about to leave the restaurant. No apology. No kitchen staff. Just awful. I did get an apology from the General Manager later that day and Sunday morning breakfast was fine. Certainly won't use this hotel again.

Yikes. Looked good, ordered two sandwiches to go which I thought were pricy at £8 EACH. Tried to charge me £18. Where I come from 2x8=16 but the lady said 'well thats what it says on the screen'. Genius, I bet NASA want her back when she's finished at the Café. The supposed 'country cheddar and ale chutney' was in fact wholesaler grated cheddar and a tiny scraping of nondescript chutney. These offerings made Greggs cheese and pickle taste like gourmet crafted treats. Came with a bag of crips, the choices were salted or salt and vinegar. No other flavour exists. Confused staff, over priced, overrated. Not everyone is an American tourist folks!
