Prime example of why you shouldn’t entrust the running of your business to teenagers. Have been coming here for a couple of years now but won’t be coming back for a while. Patiently waited for the two staff to finish their entirety non-work related chat.. no worries I’m not in a hurry but the boy then turns round with a look as if I’ve just interrupted his conversation… Ordered an americano and an oat latte - I noted the sulky boy didn’t write down the order, no worries it’s an easy one. Somehow there was communication break down despite server boy and barista girl being 2 ft away. My girlfriend’s (severely lactose intolerant) oat latte was in fact just a latte. My americano was burnt and bitter - grounds hadn’t been cleaned out I suspect. Returned immediately to hand back latte, didn’t mention Americano, nor that upon rereading the menu I’d been overcharged - gotta know when to pick your battles and I’d already witnessed the customer service! Explained that the order was wrong and his response was “that’s ok I can change it” No. No, it really isn’t ok, you could have made her very ill. Mistakes happen but I could see these coming a mile off as both staff were so disinterested. A real shame and a really poor reflection of a cafe where the staff have always been as old as the cakes. Will be back one day, hopefully some basic staff training has been rolled out by then

The problem is to choose which cake to have! Great selection and generous portions in this wee gem of a cafe where all the cakes are made on the premises. I opted for the yummy apple flapjack eventually, and a lovely latte. Staff were warm and welcoming too. Next time I'll have a healthy sandwich with veg, honest!

One of the best little gems in Brighton! Amazing variety of cakes and pastries - would recommend the millionaires gooey brownie and the rustic sausage roll. The owner of the cafe was extremely friendly and welcoming. It’s my new favourite spot for a coffee and a cake.

Every morning, there is nothing better than getting a proper coffee and being welcomed by the lovely owners of artisan cafe! This is easily my favourite coffee shop in Brighton as its reasonably priced and you get a decent size coffee! And as a vegan, I find it incredibly hard to get delicious, yummy cakes But with these you can just taste all the love and care in these home-made goods! Support local businesses and get your bum down to artisan

Service is the only thing worth coming in for to be honest. Came in last Tuesday afternoon and was served by a sweet young woman and a polite young man. Would have bought cake or a sandwich but not only are the prices absolutely extortionate, it just doesn't seem safe to eat here if you have dietary requirements... the products with meat were placed way too close to the cakes (VEGAN cakes too!) it's enough to make anyone avoid the entire café... imagine how a vegetarian like myself must feel seeing sausage rolls placed on the same board as vegan items... More allergen/dietary care from the owner would be safer. The only things that set this café apart from any other one in Brighton are their extortionate prices, no seating, and the amount of old cakes probably hard enough to break cement. The staff were lovely though.

Was staying in Kemptown and decided to grab some breakfast on a Sunday morning. Turned out to be the right choice. I opted for a bowl of granola which came with Greek yoghurt and strawberries, banana and blueberries. Delicious! The bowl looked relatively small but don’t be fooled. I struggled to eat it all but didn’t want to waste any. Great black coffee, too.

I have used this wonderful little eaterie many times before as their coffee is exceptional but on this occassion treated myself to a sandwich as well. I chose the "Holy Guacamole wrap" on the grounds that the very proficient chef was preparing one and it looked delicious. After no wait at all had my bagged wrap and statutory coffee. I was blown away with the contents of that bag. Simply delicious infact go far as to say one of the finest sandwiches i had ever eaten...(!as i own and run a cafe myself I've eaten a few). It was so good after savouring the last mouth full of that one...went back for round two!! And believe me that one was as equally mind blowing!! I couldnt rate this delightful cafe enough...food quality, coffee quality and most importantly staff/customer service quality.... flawless...!

Sad to see the much reduced lunchtime choice of what was a fabulous range of sandwiches n wraps. When going to grab usual lunchtime sandwich I was told the much reduced range was made up by the 4 ‘breakfast items’ and salads ?! Oh n specials of which there none! Try the new range of sandwiches was the next suggestion .. none of the new small range hit the mark sadly so I went up road! I hope they read this feedback with the positive intent hoped for as I believe they will be losing customers including me with this new menu. Breakfast porridge and salad aren’t a substitute for a range that was a feature of the old menu, suitable anytime of the day. Delicious breads and fillings, well made and varied in style.

Cosy little dog friendly café in the heart of Kemptown with art for sale on the walls. Nicely placed tables inside that face the window so you people watch whilst you sip your coffee, speaking of coffee, great to have a choice of almond and oat milk for us not dairy drinkers who aren’t keen on soya milk. It was a miserable day when we came here for lunch so we wanted something hot to eat, they were out of soup but happy to convert the sandwiches into toasties. I had a halloumi and guacamole toastie, both of which I love singularly but not so sure about together. Nice friendly staff, and when I asked if we could have some tap water was pleasantly surprised to be directed to a fridge that had jugs and glasses purely for this purpose. It’s slightly above average price wise I think but I enjoyed lunch here, it has a nice ambiance, tasty food and proper coffee.

I have been going to Artisan a couple of times a week for a few years, and it was my regular local coffee shop. Recently however it has begun to nosedive and is probably not worth a visit any more, which is a real shame. The new staff are disinterested and service is VERY slow and disorganised. You should be very careful to check whether you have received what you have ordered, as staff just seem to throw the orders together with no care or indeed reference to the menu. Simply because the menu suggests that you will have cheese in your sandwich does not mean you actually will. If you mention this to the staff however you will be met with a glazed smile and a shrug, as clearly caring about the quality of food is not in their job description. Even in the unlikely event that you get what you have ordered, the sandwiches are now bland and empty.I used to love this place but sadly you can now get better food and service in a Costa.

The last thing you want when it's pouring down with rain and you're leaving the flat and the city you called home for 2.5 years is a bad last supper. Thankfully, I made the right choice by walking into this adorable little place before getting on that train. I had the Brie Sandwich and asked it to be toasted. The sandwiches and paninis apparently came with a 'side' so I ordered the kale and carrot slaw. I have never in my life finished the salad before anything containing cheese on my plate. I ate that slaw like it was going to give me special powers. I would go back just for that. The sandwich was great. Wonderful little details like the rosemary bread they used. Everything screamed Kemptown quality. The only thing that made me sad is that now that I've tasted it, I want more, and have to wait until my next visit!

The regular team are still there and always greet with a smile! I opted for the artisan sandwich this time in a demi baguette which was lovely! The onion marmalade really rounds it off. To accompany I had a vanilla latte which was made perfectly and also brought a lemon san pelligrino to wash it all down with. Overall price is still quite high (around £10) but if you want quality food, wonderful staff and a homely cafe with free wifi then I suggest you pop down to artisan! This is a wonderful little deli/cafe in Kemp Town...good "lunch" food, inexpensive, and an extensive range of Jeeves of Jericho teas - Try the Earl of Grey, it's really excellent....

Found this cracker whilst wandering through backstreet Brighton and totally misinterpreted that Kemp Town could be home to such a wonderful little coffee shop. I arrived and was met by friendly staff who were more than happy to engage in a conversation and recommend sandwiches. I opted for the Spicy Spanish which was excellent! Washed down with a proper well made milkshake which is better than a Starbucks Frappucino (Mint is a winner guys!) and a brownie for afters, overall the price was pushing it a tiny bit (Nearly £10) but you pay for what you get and in this case it was quality. I shall defiantly be returning here in the future.

A lovely experience with home made thai chicken soup and freshly made sarnies . Sure beats the awful chain experience (starbucks etc)

My wife and I wanted a quick lunch and popped into this place. We were seated at a small table at the front and ordered our food from the counter. I opted for the focaccia bread with Pastrami, Mustard, cheese and gherkins, toasted and it was delicious. My wife went for the chicken with chilli jam which was equally good. The tea was very good also, with tea pots containing tea leaves instead of tea bags. We also tasted the croissants which were very fresh as was the lemon and polenta cake. We will definitely be revisiting this place.

A small, rustic looking place; i went in because i was tired and starving. I wasn't expecting too much but the staff were happy to chat about pwhat i wanted and made reccomendations based on their menu. The food was very tasty, using quality ingredients. The staff were happy to engage ina bit of conversation which makes a nice change from the usual robots. The biggest surprise though was yet to come; the coffee was superb! Normally have a cappuccino and the .milk was steamed to perfection (or to my taste at least?) and the taste of the coffee was great. The cake thatvichose to accompmay it was also great homemade by a staff member who was happy to discuss the recipe with me. if there was a minor criticism it would be price. Coffee, cake and sandwich (with salad)=about 9 pounds. but then i guess you get what you pay for. In this case quality.

It was a long day, I was lost and in desperate need of coffee when I happened to stumble upon this little gem. The cafe was just about to close but the staff, a young & VERY friendly couple named Val and George kindly re-opened their doors for me and my girlfriend and served us some great cappuccinos. The thing that stood out most was how they genuinely were interested in creating conversation with us, they were very warm and caring. I told them how we were lost, it was our first day in Brighton, and really we didn't know where and what to do. George kindly took our map and began jotting down numerous suggestions, he even drew us a line from the cafe to our hotel!!! The next morning we came back to Artisan to have our breakfast and boy let me tell you, it was gooddddd!!! We had the sausage rolls, a couple strawberry smoothies, and finished it off with some pastel de nata's (portuguese custard pie, STRONGLY RECOMMEND)...everything is homemade, with natural ingredients and you can taste it! We stayed in brighton a couple of days and always happened to make our way back to Artisan's for little snacks throughout the day, I guess you can say we fell in love. It was nice to always be welcomed by our names and a big smile, Val, George and their cute little cafe were by far the best part of our trip to Brighton, do yourself a favour and visit Artisan whenever you find yourself in Brighton, you won't be disappointed! And don't forget the Pastel de Nata's!!!! :)

Dropped on this place by change. Really rustic looking with wonderful food smells to match. The staff were happy to recommend a suitable snack and it was promptly heated and served with a wonderful small tasty salad. Very staff who were so helpful.
