Best pizza around. The prices are great, the service is great, and everyone working there is super friendly. Couldn't ask for more

I was there hosting a charity quiz event, but I was thoroughly impressed with the place. Good layout, comfortable seating, good service, and the pizzas looked good too. I shall look forward to our next one.

The Sunday roasts were incredible big portions packed full of flavour... highly recommended.

Best roast I've had in a while. Unlike some pubs, they understand that a roast is actually a hot meal. Will definitely visit again.

The westhill is one of my many local pubs, and I always enjoy going in with our family. Not only are the staff always friendly, they are also really family and dog friendly. The pizzas are also delicious, I get a meat pizza but with vegan cheese and it is by far one of the best dairy free pizza in Brighton. It's also 241 on Tuesdays! Beers are a nice selection, but miss the cask 😭. Definitely recommend and will continue to spend many a day's hiding in the westhill on a rainy day

Local drinks and a good atmosphere (even during a pub quiz) both more than make up for the hill the pubs on!

Came here as my friend wanted to and said they do Italian and pizza. I was very skeptical . However I was pleasantly surprised. I had the Bon chovi , which tasted good and some olives. Nice wine and good service

Came in last Sunday and had the best roast I've had in Brighton for a very long time. Staff are friendly and attentive... Will definitely be back even if poor Scooby did get covered in mint sauce 😂

Just tried to order a simple pint at the bar but not allowed without a booking. Bar is half empty but my pint is certainly empty.

Joined as a party of 18 for the bottomless brunch with pizza. Visit was for a hen do, and the waitress was lovely and very attentive. She made sure the group was looked after. Issue came with the food, which took 1 hour 20 minutes between the first person getting their food to the last. The majority of the group were left hungry waiting for food, only to be told after ordering the kitchen could only serve 3 pizzas every 15 minutes. The pizzas themselves were good when they arrived, but not acceptable to serve in such a manner. The waitress initially removed the service charge, only to be followed by a rude and irrational manager who should know better working in this industry. Don’t accept bookings if you are unable to serve them as a group, and be considerate when speaking to your customers. Telling your customer your staff won’t get paid because the service wasn’t paid is ethically questionable. Lovely food and location, marred by the rude management so disappointing overall which is the driver for the rating. [Update to owner response]: There are no reviews of similar sized groups with the pizza brunch offer so could not compare to understand if this was a one off experience. Previous reviews do mention rude staff, which is always disappointing. This review is being shared to allow other large groups to consider information we were unable to at the time of booking as, by your own admission, you are unable to serve large groups the pizza menu. You hurriedly explained the small kitchen only AFTER the booking had been made, the group seated and food ordered, AND the initial food was slow to the table. Previous reviews also mention you are able to serve roasts for groups of 20 with little delay, so you ought to consider your ability to serve large groups when it is you who offers a pizza only menu. It is your responsibility as a restaurant to inform that prior to any booking is made, or even before ordering so the group could have ordered pizzas to share. That way the delay in pizzas would not have left the majority of the group without food. Nearly an hour wait for food (even by your questionable timings) is excessive and not justifiable. You accepted a group booking for a large number of pizzas, and were unable to deliver. The initial delay in ordering (c. 20 minutes) was driven by your staff who explained they would set up drinks first, and only then would take our orders. Had you known you would struggle with this at the time of booking (presumably your kitchen has not drastically reduced in sized overnight) you could have had the foresight to take a pre-order. In addition, consider taking the food order first to make head way on those ahead of the drinks on arrival. You ought to speak to your staff before posting as the group did query the delay with the food throughout the service. Your staff member also printed a new receipt with no service charge upon the final query which was handed to our party, which is when they proceeded to pay. There was no issue with the food itself when it finally arrived and so the service was queried in the first instance. Had you been available to discuss an alternative there could have been another option, but your staff member made the decision without you to remove it. Service charge is not enforceable (even on large groups) when it is not at an acceptable level. You simply served the equivalent of 5-6 small tables. In this instance the full bill was paid as your updated receipt would show. Agreed on the server’s attentiveness at the onset of the booking, which I called out in the review and the lead guest was arranging a cash tip to reflect this after the delay of food was identified. This was retracted after her attitude changed upon your arrival and became rude to the group. Considering the above, you should stick to groups and offers you are able to service if you are able to do these well. For larger groups this evidently is not an area you can cater to as well and the review reflects that.

I believe ratings are justified on what's to be expected and what's provided so for that I can see no bad. This day and age to be doing what West Hill is doing I think deserves 5stars

Came here as a group of 20 for my birthday on Sunday. We’ve had a roast here before, which was excellent, so I was hoping it would be just as good the second time (especially being such a big group; and a 4pm sitting which in other pubs can sometimes mean roasts aren’t as fresh). It did not disappoint. The food was delicious, hot, and the staff were absolutely lovely. Hats off to the chef who can send our 20 faultless roasts with crispy roast potatoes in the space of 5 minutes! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, thank you so much for another great meal :)

Local boozer run by the lowliest of people. Bit like Cheers, it's a place you go where everybody knows your name. My go to if I want to grab a pizza and a well balanced negroni and to meet my friends. Highly recommended.

Service is always amazing and so is the Sunday roast. I’ve got to say we are yet to find a roast better than this one. From the portions, meat, veggies down to the gravy is so tasty. The pork belly - yum!! Whenever we have friends coming to see us in Brighton, we try to take them here for a Sunday lunch. Excellent 👌 Just yesterday we booked a table and brought a friend with us and he loved it!

Went for a Sunday roast and couldn't have been more pleased! It tasted amazing and the service and atmosphere were wonderful.

We booked a table at the West Hill for Sunday lunch with family & friends. We had such a lovely time, all of the staff are so friendly and made us feel right at home. The vibe & the bloody Mary’s are great and as for the roasts - well they are delicious. We all cleaned our plates (they are large portions!) lovely selection of sides & desserts too. Loved the truffle cauli cheese and pigs in blankets! We’ll be back!

Sunday Roast is superb excellent value for money

I booked a table for 6 for bottomless brunch for my sister's hen and I'm so glad I did! Emma our host was just amazing!! As soon as we walked in, she was full of energy and knew our booking instantly (we dressed my sister up in a wedding dress and gigantic 80s style veil). She was so attentive and made our experience feel very special. The prosecco cocktails were constantly flowing, not like other brunches where they get a bit stingy. We had passionfruit, orange and an elderflower all on the go and the carafes were huge!! The pizza was the perfect size and the toppings were very high quality. It was £25pp and incredible value for money considering how much prosecco we all went through in an hour and a half.The venue itself is friendly, bright, clean and has good music playing (lots of motown which is always welcome). I couldn't recommend this pub enough! Thank you so much for helping to make my sister's hen the best it could be Emma, you were fab!!!

Went here for the vegan Sunday roast as it’s at the end of our street The food was very nice with quick and efficient service What lets them down is the selection of low quality wines and at £8 per glass that’s something that needs to be sorted before we come back

Lovely pub and staff. The Bar team are super friendly and the place has a really nice atmosphere about it. The West Hill Tavern had been recommend to me by friends after they had been there and had the Sunday roast. Needless to say the roast was every bit as nice as I had been told it was. I have already recommended it to friends and colleagues as the place to go the next time they fancy a Sunday Roast out or even a nice drink. A great little pub with a fantastic team.

Wheelchair users can enter the building, but don’t know about accessible toilets.Toilets were clean and tidy Food options for Sunday were varied and interesting, not standard fare for lunch. vegan options available.Portion sizes were very generous. Food was delicious, flavorsome, with thought going into there creation. Cost of food was very reasonable, though I feel it would justifiable to charge more because of the amount and quality:Staff was friendly, warm and welcoming. Best roast in Brighton! The kitchen deserve 5 stars. Our 5 noisy little ones were less appreciated, hence the 4 stars. But if you're not a young family, you won't find a better lunch.

Great meal & all round experience last night. Booked a table with my parents for our first post-lockdown meal. Great selection of pizzas & drinks which suited all tastes from the grandparents to teenagers.Great music playlist. Lovely staff. Just a wonderful reminder of everything that’s brilliant about our British pubs.

Excellent service from the moment we walked in. Sunday roast was fantastic and portion sizes were great value for money. Under tier 2 restrictions, they have a great selection of food with hand sanitisers dotted around, and staff wearing masks at all times. My only fault would be that tables aren't necessarily far enough apart. Although this didn't really bother us, we know it may be a factor for others visiting. Will definitely visit again!

The Sunday roast served here are genuinely good for your soul. As someone who enjoys a roast, the one served here is one of the best I have ever experienced. Do yourself a favour and experience it firsthand, definitely will not regret it.

Bohemian artisan boutique pub! Welcoming and friendly, art on every wall and the food is excellent. Slightly limited menu but if they do it, they do it very well. Great experience, thank you for having us!

Gorgeous Sunday roasts made with love! Delicious vegetarian options, the veggie Wellington is spot on, crispy roast potatoes and all the trimmings. ( You won't leave hungry) Not a meat eater but the look of the local lamb, could've turned me! Super service from smiley people. Well worth a visit!

I had the Squash, spinach and mushroom Wellington and it was amazing. The portions are large and very tasty. There are options for vegans and vegetarians. My friends had the lamb roast and the nut roast and they all agreed that it was tasty. The service was great too. Will definitely return

Such a cool little spot! Tucked away near Brighton Station up the hill to Seven Dials, it’s a proper little jewel. I love it’s re-imagination as a work/arts hub - that shows work by local artists that you can buy! Plus their new mural outside is a great example of the art they do. Delicious grilled sandwiches ! And super lovely hosts. Looking forward to going back in the evening for some girlie drinks. What Brighton is all about! Thanks for the hospitality guys... !! See you soon x

Came here with the girls on the Friday night at about 9.30pm and were served quickly and found a table to sit on. The pub had a good atmosphere and the staff were friendly and helpful. The kitchen was no longer open but the staff said we could order food in from outside if we wanted which I thought was a nice touch! We didn’t order anything in but it was nice to hear! Friendly place with excellent choice of drinks!

Ben and the team at the pub facilitated a brilliant party. Veggie and vegan pizzas were excellent, as were the vegan brownies and sorbet. 5 stars for communication, service, flexibility and value. Highly recommended for drinks/ food/ parties/ events. Great location close to Brighton station.

Oh my god - the best Sunday roast I’ve had in a loooooong time. Huge and so so tasty - I was so full when I finished it but wanted to eat it all over again! Staff were so lovely and friendly too. Really impressed.

Heather is the loveliest publican we've met, as soon as we moved to the area she made us feel so welcome. The roasts here are delicious, they're always accommodating with bookings and the cosmic pizzas served during the week are also really tasty.

Ha pasado un tiempo desde que tuvimos un asado del domingo. Así que revisamos la web para ver qué salió bien calificado y apto para perros. Y la taberna West Hill seguía apareciendo. Así que fuimos por eso. Confieso que he tenido un punto ciego con este pub, ya que no está en ninguna ruta que tomemos por la ciudad. Y tal vez como está cerca de la estación, pensé que era un boozer pasado de moda. ¡Mi error! Es un pub tradicional pero con un servicio de mesa muy amable. No habíamos reservado pero fuimos temprano y lograron exprimirnos al mediodía. Para ser justos, creo que tuvimos suerte, así que sugiero reservar. Era un lugar relajante para sentarse con una bebida y los papeles. Pero el evento principal fue el asado. Uno de nosotros tenía carne y el otro pollo. Ambas porciones eran enormes. Lamenté haber ordenado el lado de la coliflor, aunque lo intenté con valentía. La carne era excelente y todas las verduras perfectamente preparadas y con sabor. Es probablemente uno de los mejores asados que hemos tenido en años. No es uno de los más baratos con alrededor de 15. Pero es poco probable que necesite comer por el resto del día. Definitivamente vamos a estar de vuelta.

Visité el domingo aquí y qué puedo decir, no solo fue increíble el servicio desde el momento en que entramos por la puerta, la comida era deliciosa. Los tamaños de las porciones son increíbles. Me fui sintiéndome bastante cómodo. He estado por unos asados en Brighton y honestamente puedo decir que este es mi favorito. No puedo esperar para regresar : )

Went here for the roast dinner! Staff were really friendly. Roast Beef dinner was sublime! Really enjoyed the table ordering and how relaxed it all was. Paid for everything on the way out. Would highly recommend this place for roast lovers!

If you want to have a proper Sunday lunch, stop looking as the food here is excellent. They serve amazing portion sizes as well as great tasting food. I would suggest booking prior to going as it is likely to be busy!

We had the real pleasure of hiring the West Hill Tavern pub for a birthday party recently. Ben and the team did a fantastic job of hosting the party, communication was great throughout and Ben made it very easy for us to set up, turn up and enjoy a great night. No decorating was needed as they were already prepared with beautiful paper decorations and they also supplied the DJ equipment for music (decks and CD mixers) at no extra cost. We had a fantastic night and would highly recommend anyone wanting the same to book the West Hill Tavern. Highly recommended.
