Artisan in North Lanarkshire

I can't believe we have never been here before. Food was amazing Craig the waiter was hilarious. Not sure I want to recommend encase I canny get a table when I want one

Disappointing visit last night. The table we were originally shown to was so close to a wall and the next diners that there was no way our party of 4 could fit in. My husband and daughters’ boyfriend are both over 6 foot. We asked to be moved and the server initially said we couldn’t as they were fully booked. Manager called over and we were moved! Restaurant was not fully booked - no one else came in after us. The food was ok but the plastic was left on a haggis starter and no fruit garnish available for my gin. The waitress came to us at the end of our main course and told us we couldn’t have coffee as they had turned the machine off and this also meant we couldn’t have our chosen sweet - affogato.

Were do I start? Firstly very welcoming and pleasant. Found us a table and made sure we were happy with it. Quite a young team working tonight who catered to our every need. Our meal was stunning cooked to perfection and absolutely stunning. Dessert, my wife had the mango cheesecake and I opted for a few single malt whisky's instead of a sweet. The chap that served us made his recommendation of the perfect single malt whisky, Bruichladdich port barrel, absolutely stunning, not over smokey, smooth and a bit on the sweet side. Now the final part the payment, wow, amazed at the value for money for the meal and the drinks. If ever you are in Wishaw and looking for a great value meal then I suggest- no I highly recommend - Artisan restaurant, fantastic staff team and fantastic value for money. Thank you to the staff team from the chef to the servers I can't thank you enough for the fantastic service meal and whisky recommendation.

I’d start off by saying this restaurant is good, not average, but no option for this. A few things could make it very good in my opinion. We were the only ones in the restaurant, which was fine but service could have been much better. Had to ask for more drinks twice and noticed the staff were more interested than going on their phones than checking on their customers. At no point did anyone check if everything was ok with our meals, which is unusual. Apart from that, the staff were friendly enough but just disinterested. Starters were really nice, however was surprised the soup didn’t come with a bread roll or bread, which was unusual. Main course of beef was nice again, but a bit dry. The fish and chips were really good. My husband was served a flat soda water and lime so I had to go to the bar to ask for another, again, the staff should have noticed this. It was replaced and we were told the last one came from a nearly empty bottle. Good choice of menu and reasonably priced If the service was better and some small tweaks to the food this would be an excellent restaurant.

Celebrating a 70th birthday with family (28). Staff were amazing and very efficient . Although there was 28 in the group the chef and staff ensured we were served quickly. Craig was always on hand to make sure everyone was satisfied. His quick one liners kept everyone amused, well done. The menu was varied and plentiful making it difficult to choose. The food regardless of choice was amazing . Not one person in our group had a complaint. There's no doubt the restaurant will have visits from diners in our group to try different dishes. Thank you for making our visit feel special. We all had a lovely time.

What a superb find. We went on recommendation from our B&B. The staff, Craig and Abbie, were excellent. They have so many whiskys and Craig was so knowledgeable that I was happy to go with his suggestions. I wasn't disappointed. The food was also excellent and there was a lot of it. I'm glad that I didn't have a starter as I struggled to finish my main and the cheese board was phenomenal. It was a fantastic evening in a magical restaurant. Derek, the owner and chef, certainly knows his stuff. This place is worth going out of your way to visit. To be honest, it deserves at least 6 stars.

Was told that this place was worth a visit and it was great value. Wasn't too impressed by the location but that was greatly improved once we say down. Warm bread was delivered and then the starters arrived. Large portions and tasted great. Main courses were equally impressive and tasted great. Beef only had to be touched to dall apart. Desserts had to be forced down😃 Cost including tea and coffee including a carry out starter was just over £30. One of the best meals we have had for a long time

We enjoyed a lunch here and the lunch deal is fab. The staff are so friendly. The food is delicious. We love this local restaurant.

Felt bad, because I had suggested we go to Artisan. Today all four of us were disappointed with our meals. Two of us had Cajun salad, One had fish and chips the other chicken and potatoes. The chicken seem tough and the plate overwhelmed with leaves but no taste to the salad. The chicken in the potato dish tough too. All left a great deal on the plate. Even the cheese cake lacked substance. I do think the sticky toffee pudding was good for two of our party. We did tell the staff we were unhappy with our meals. We were not offered a discount or waver. Some people can be fussy but four people cannot be wrong. Staff were very friendly but this does not detract from the disappointment of the meals. unfortunately we will not be back again.

Artisan has never disappointed , It is the only restaurant I know in Wishaw that I would recommend . Service , food and value are all great. My wife and I always look forward to the experience.

This has to be one of the very best whisky bars in the world. More than 2000 open bottles all at very reasonable prices. Excellent service and unbelievably good food. The steak I had rates in the top 3 easily I’ve ever had. If you’ve seen Brewster’s Millions, for a whisky fan, this is a room you could die in. Incredible.

Cracking wee restaurant with friendly staff. We visited on a Saturday night, the place was busy but the staff could not do enough for you. Two courses ( both had a fantastic steak) bottle of wine, drinks and coffees and the bill was ridiculously cheap. Honestly. You can’t do better than this wee gem of a restaurant. Well done all. We will definitely be back.

I recently visited Artistan on foot of a recommendation. I can say I was not disappointed. For starters, I had the Stornoway Black Pudding salad, which was plentiful and very tasty. Followed by the legendary 'laddie' burger, smothered in their homemade Octomore bbq sauce. Post dinner, I retired to the laddie snug, was in awe of not only the whisky selection available for sale, but all the chefs, private selection. The whiskys which were for sale were all at a very reasonable price. Huge credit due to Chef Derek and all the team (including front of house). I'm already looking forward to a return visit next year. The trip from Glasgow was very easy using a mainline train and a short walk to the restaurant.

We visited Artisan yesterday with our 7 month old baby, the staff were incredibly welcoming & their customer service was impeccable. The gentleman who seated us & took our order (I can’t remember his name) put so much effort into speaking to our 7 month old, that he actually cried anytime the man had to go into the kitchen to collect food or attend to other customers 😂. The food was incredible, quality, presentation, serving time. We had a wonderful visit & we are really looking outward to a return visit. Thank you so much to the team at artisan for such a wonderful experience.

Dined here every weekend since the start of the year. Normally we politely decline the bread which is served before the meal and it’s never been a problem however today we were served by Fiona (chef’s wife I believe) and when I declined the she was very nasty saying she wished I’d told her before she “made” it. We’re so disgusted by her nasty attitude that we paid for our drinks and left without ordering. food. She did attempt an apology as we were leaving. Very disappointing as we enjoyed the food there and the rest of the staff are lovely but we won’t be back.

Lovely staff, lovely food, great plain, simple , casual dinner in a relaxing environment. There was too much food! You could make more profit by cutting portion sizes even a little. Prices were ideal. Very likely to come back, thank you.

Three times in the past six weeks we have visited Artisan. Was there again on Wednesday night and the food does not disappoint. We eat out regularly in Lanarkshire and Glasgow and I'll say Artisan is the best by far. Thoroughly recommend giving it a try.

A wonderful restaurant. The owner and chef is a real whisky obsessive and if you like a dram this place is unbeatable. But the food is also fabulous - amazing portion sizes - you won’t leave hungry. The staff are so friendly. This is a restaurant that has a big heart and it shows. It’s such a rare thing to have a restaurant which that genuinely leaves you with a big smile on your face.

A huge thank you to the Artisan staff on Saturday 1 April, especially Craig & Jamie, who had a mammoth task of serving our party of 19 for a joint 65th birthday. The food was absolutely fantastic, huge portions for a pre-theatre menu. Food arrived well presented, hot & in quick succession. Well done to the chef. No mean feat with a table our size. Finally, a mention to the bar staff, who also worked tirelessly to deliver a wide selection of drinks. So, thank you once again for a great night, would highly recommend Artisan & will definitely be back, perhaps not in such a large group. LOL.

Had dinner with a friend. I ordered the Black Pudding Salad for starters. Artisan MUST bottle the dressing and sell it. It is simply AMAZING. Chicken with Mashed Potatoes and black pepper sauce followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding. The whole meal was outstanding. My friend had the Cajun Fries to start followed by Sirloin Steak and fries, and Sticky Toffee Pudding. Portions are big for the price. You will not go hungry. Money well spent.

Was told about this gem by a colleague. The food was absolutely brilliant plates very warm a good sign and the white wine perfectly chilled. I stared with the steamed haggis good size portion and moist, followed by the Aberdeen smoked Haddock what a size and with the sauce and vegetables cooked to perfection finished with the waffle all for less than £40 in Glasgow you would pay double. This is a fantastic find, great food nice staff and will most definately be back would highly recommend

Turned up for a booking that I’d made 2 weeks ago only to be told it had been cancelled by Artisan. They had my phone number but didn’t bother to call and let me know. They said they’d sent an email...they didn’t. The woman who greeted us at the door & told us this (I believe she is the owner) needs a good few lessons in customer service. Her attitude was very poor to say the least. If they don’t have the technical know how to use an online booking system they should probably give it a miss!

I’ve visited Artisan a few times over the years and was keen, as it’s a local business, to support it post lockdown. I found the restaurant operating a reduced menu which was fine and still offered reasonable choice. A few in our company had Cajun wedges to start which were on the verge of being overly spiced and the portion size was large enough that one could easily have satisfied two people. I had Cullen Skink which was nice but not great. For mains our company was split between steaks and burgers with sirloin the only cut of steak available. Portion sizes were good but I’ve had better quality from this restaurant previously. Overall I was happy to support Artisan at what must be a difficult time but was disappointed, compared to other visits, with the quality of the food.

Haven't been here even long before lock down but was pleased to see the restaurant has been decorated and cleaned which was much needed.Booked here because feel we all need to support local businesses but was a bit disappointed.Waiting staff were lovely.Menu very limited which for me left me no starter choice and only sirloin steak for the main which I never have.The rest of my party did have starters, Cullen skink (bland) blackpudding and wedges which was a huge portion for a starter.Obviously every kind of whisky you could ask for as this is a selling point for this restaurant but very little to choose from for the beer drinkers.All in all a dusappointment

Visited as a family of 4 and while the surrounding area isn’t brilliant this is a little gem. Initial thoughts were mixed partially due to the COVID situation but they have done all they can to give you peace of mind and once sat down there were no issues. The food is absolutely amazing we all had different meals and the value was exceptional so a good tip was left in acknowledgement of their efforts. Highly recommend Artisan especially during this very difficult time .

We've visited Artisan lots of times over the years, and it just gets better and better! This week we went for the Kilchoman whisky tasting and 4 course meal. It is always busy for these nights, which makes for a great, lively atmosphere. The food was again amazing - the haggis starter deserves a special mention as it was so tasty, and I loved the whisky bocker glory!! George from Kilchoman gave a great talk with some hilarious stories as we tasted 6 different Kilchoman whisky expressions. The waiting staff were helpful and relaxed. And 4 courses and 6 whiskies for £45 is amazing value. THANK YOU Derek and Fiona for another amazing evening.

We visited mainly for the whisky. I would says it’s the probably the biggest open whisky selection in the UK, and certainly the most unique. Prices are very fair and they can’t do enough for you. The food is good, but beware, the portions are huge, so if you are not a big eater you may want to skip that starter.

Went for a midweek meal for our anniversary as we’ve had good food here in the past. Was really disappointed! We were give 2 pieces of stale bread cut from a baguette and some butter and dip but it was inedible. We both had pate to start which was ok mine was very soft. I ordered the sirloin steak medium which came cooked as I asked but had a funny taste and very chewy so I was unable to finish it. Mushrooms were gritty. Chips were nice but that’s about it. My husband ordered deep fried haddock and chips which arrived in a paella dish! The fish was breaded instead of battered and not haddock but more likely whiting. No tartar sauce but a pot of mayonnaise. Salad leaves were brown. Again the chips were the best bit. We didn’t order dessert and made a swift exit. Won’t be back which is a shame as it was great years ago and now they appear to be cutting corners.

We never even made it to a table!!!!My wife went online and booked a table using the system they have in place for the 4 of us.So to make sure she called them and got put through to an automated service to confirm our booking.We had a reference number for the booking also BUT upon arriving we were told THEY cancelled our reservation as they had to many bookings and were given a multitude of reasons for it and that we were not the only people that it has happened too.WTF!This is a great way to run a business.So thank you for leaving us in the lurch and trying to find alternative arrangements at last minute on Burns night.I am giving it 1* as they need me to put in something but i'd give 0*.So basically you can't call or book direct but the staff can cancel your booking and not even let you know until your standing in the doorway.Idon't normally bother writing these but in this case I feel angry about the whole thing.We ended up after much driving and phoning about at The Villa in Hamilton which was a superb meal and great staff.They were so helpful when we told them it was my wifes birthday and had been let down by this other bunch of .So Artisan I've never been before and guess i'll not be back.

Third visit to this restaurant having enjoyed the previous 2 (some time ago). We were left waiting for a lengthy time before receiving our food. We weren’t in a rush so didn’t cause a fuss. My fiancé ordered carbonara and it was bland and overcooked. I ordered the chicken dish which was dry, the mashed potatoes were lumpy, dry and tasteless. The waitresses were lovely but the food was a let down.

Just visited Artisan again for Hogmanay which was fantastic value at £49.50 for 8 courses! We could hardly move at the end but it was well worth it. Staff were attentive and friendly as always and the food was delicious. The pate is to die for and each dish tastes homemade. Other reviews looking for an upper class fine dining experience provide an unfair comparison. The prices are excellent and the experience is genuine and homely. We love Artisan and will continue to support local businesses

For my first time here I thought it was going to be great as it had been well recommended to me and my wife, So we decided to go for lunch one afternoon for our anniversary, Service was great no issues there at all but unfortunately the food was poor might have been an off day as I said a lot of my friends really enjoy the food when they go, We had steak which was served with a strange smell and taste so we sent it back and the meal was replaced without issue but by serving up a steak that was clearly off, the damage was done we couldn’t enjoy our lunch after this, I must say in all the time I have been with my wife I have never seen her send anything back or complain,

Wir waren im Rahmen unserer Schottlandreise im Artisan, nachdem ich schon öfter in Foren darüber gelesen hatte. Und soviel ist sicher: Es wurde nicht zu viel versprochen. Alle Speisen, die wir hatten (unter anderem den grandiosen Ocotomore Burger) waren sehr lecker und noch dazu äußerst günstig. Dazu kommt noch, dass Derek und Fiona extrem nett sind und sich die Zeit genommen haben, eine Runde mit uns zu quatschen, obwohl das Restaurant brechend voll war. Nach dem Essen ging es dann weiter zur "Lounge" und die Whiskyauswahl raubte uns fast den Verstand. Sehr ausgefallene Whiskies zur absolut fairen Preisen. Sollten wir noch einmal nach Glasgow kommen, werden wir sicherlich erneut die 40 minütige Zugfahrt unternehmen oder direkt im Ort ein Zimmer buchen.Für Whiskyfans auf alle Fälle ein Muss!

We've visited and reviewed Artisan a few times, and went again this week. If I could give 6 stars it wouldn't be enough. Has just got better and better! We visited for a whisky tasting evening hosted by Distell. With 7 great drams and a 4 course meal for a very reasonable price, I don't know how they do it! The whisky was great and varied, and the food was yet again amazing. In particular I must mention the black pudding and haggis, the smoked salmon and the burger. All so tasty with big helpings and locally sourced. Great service and the most friendly of hosts as well. There must be thousands of amazing whiskies available by the dram. A whisky fan could spend some years in the lovely whisky snug and never get bored! Thanks again to you all, especially Derek and Fiona. Highly, highly recommended.

First visit for me at the Artisan, wont be the last. From the moment I stepped over the welcome mat I was looked after royally be the hosts Derek and Fiona.

Fiona and Derek are funny and insightful hosts who put customer satisfaction above all else. The food consists of high quality generous portions that are cooked beautifully. Then there is the whisky... the thousands of bottles (literally) of unusual and rare drams that are priced to reflect their initial value rather the inflated price of resellers, which is a real delight for whisky fans who want an honest dram. Keep doing what you're doing Derek and Fiona, the Artisan is a real Gem.

From the minute you arrive, to the minute you leave (And I was there for a long time) you are looked after very well. The food is fab and the whisky selection is unreal.

There were 13 of us from the Wet We Whistle Whisky Club in Stourbridge went up to Wishaw near Glasgow to spend a couple of days with Derek and Fiona Mather at their restaurant Artisan.

The food is decent and the drinks selection also good.

Lunchtime menu. Me and my wife had burgers. I had the Scottish one and my wife had the Artisan burger. Both were swimming in grease. The buns fell apart. Really poor.

Fabulous meal to celebrate our anniversary. Food always delicious, piping hot and extremely tasty. Staff were amazing and the flytes of gin or whisky are very very good. Get there asap.

Tonight was date night and unfortunately the food was not to be desired. Breaded mushrooms ordered for starter, came to the table in a pool of grease and over cooked . Hoped to forget about such a terrible starter with a nice fillet steak, instead I was terribly dissapointed! Steak was overcooked, mushrooms again surrounded by a pool of grease and there are simply no words for how the chips and peppercorn sauce tasted. I will say as a positive the staff are lovely! Would not recommend for a romantic dinner or dinner at all. x

We have been several times and plan to go back more. The food has always been really good, espacially the smoked haddock. Not had any whisky yet so need to go back without the car.

I have visited Artisan a few times over the years,last night I took my mum out.The food we had was really good,portions were large.I started with Scallops & Stornaway black pudding.Very generous portion,nice and tasty.Portion probably too big for myself,but very good.Mother didn’t go for starter as she isn’t a big eater,she nibbled away on the complimentary bread.For the mains ,i opted for Haggis,mash & peppercorn sauce.Mother had steak,with chips,mushroom,tomatoes,sauce and onion rings.Onion rings was a side order,biggest onion rings I have ever seen,but very good.After my haggis I couldn’t have faced a sweet,mother couldn’t finish her dinner,due to the generous portions.The food wasn’t expensive ,very good value.The staff were always on hand and friendly.This restaurant is a must for whiskey lovers,a massive selection to choose from.A disabled toilet would be a great addition to the restaurant,for those who require it.

We really enjoy our visits to Artisan. Traditional, guid Scots fare, with twists. The adjoining snug, is perfect for that after dinner tipple. Regardless of whatever else is happening, we always depart Artisan smiling, happy, satisfied.

I have eaten here a few times and have never been disappointed with the food. The price is extremely good value and the staff and service are very good. Unfortunately the only thing that lets it down for me is the fact that it feels really cramped, particularly in the right hand side at the bar area. I feel quite claustrophobic sitting in this part, even though it is my favourite in terms of the quirkiness of the whiskey bottles etc. The toilets feel really claustrophobic too although they are very clean.

Our friends in Scotland took my Canadian brother and me to this quaint little restaurant. They have been going off and since it first opened in 2008 (I think). It was their intent to give us a sample of traditional Scottish fare. We were not disappointed. Be sure to stop by.

Great restaurant, biggest collection of single malt whiskies in the UK, I believe ... But the paté, OH the paté! WhatEVER you do, you MUST have the chicken liver paté to start!

The food was as memorable as the friendly welcome. Individual tastes catered for (the children!) and generous portions too. Fascinating environment, surrounded by the jewelled colours of whisky, ceiling high. I visit to remember! Thank you.

We had a wee family night out and went to Artisan for a meal. Our food was very good, nicely presented and served with an attentive smile. I am not a regular here but I would like a bit more variation in the menu if I was, I find that I am seeing the same things always on the menu (which obviously works for them) so that is an observation not a complaint. Venison was lovely as were the starters and burgers and our wine suited perfectly. We only managed 2 courses as we were full but the sweets looked very nice as well.

Welcoming staff and nice but small restaurant. Was seated and placed drinks order to find out that they did not have coke only diet Pepsi. I do not drink diet drinks ie pepsi max or diet pepsi and so was disappointed.

My husband and myself were in for a meal last night. Food was lovely as always but the service is extremely poor. Nobody seems to know what they are doing. Was told that was our table and left to seat ourselves (pretty poor) the girl with the purple hair behind the counter really needs to get off her high horse with the other girls and work on her manners and attitude. Good job the food was good or we wouldn't be returning.

I was at the Artisan to celebrate my friends 60th birthday, we had a really enjoyable evening, no complaints about the food and the alcohol was flowing.

We were looking for something away from the usual Chinese and Indian eateries and came across this place. Food was excellent and fairly priced (£120 for 6 of us Inc 2 rounds of drinks) and the staff were friendly and attentive. Would definitely go back.

Excellent food at very reasonable price. The set lunch menu (mon to thurs) offers a tremendous choice of main courses for two people at less than the cost of a carry out. The food was very good indeed and the service was excellent. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Went in earlier today at 12.00 Small queue waiting but easily got a seat. Ordered melon and freshly cayght haggis burger. Partner ordered haggis for starter and pasta. Both were delicious. Have to say that the young male waiter was excellent!!! The chat/banter was excellent and his recommendations were perfect. Easily one of the top ten retaurant experiences we have had.

Have been here a few times and the food never disappoints. Good food and reasonable prices. However the service could improve. We arrived to be told our table was not quite ready. They asked us to go to the lounge area (nobody else in here at the time but was like a storage room with boxes stacked) to wait where we were left for a wee while and menus then brought but nobody asked if we would like a drink while we waited - missed opportunity by waiting staff. Meal lovely then we thought we would have coffee but it took so long for someone to ask if we would like coffee that we just asked for the bill. Another missed opportunity. This is a great place for all occasions that serves good food but it also lacks a bit of atmosphere that could improve with more subtle lighting and decor. Would not stop me returning though.

Had an absolutely fantastic afternoon. The food as always was superb and the whisky provided was fantastic. Derek, Fiona and the rest of the team always look after you to the highest standard possible. Highly recommend you to try. You will not be disappointed.

Came here for valentine was amazing. food was absolutely lovely & the staff was really friendly. Said we would be back & we did on Monday with 2 other family members who both enjoyed it as much as us. So a big thank you for making us feel Welcome. :)
