We had an afternoon tea at the ARTea tea rooms. The staff were very friendly and the tea was delicious and plenty of it including sandwiches, cakes, fruit and scones with cream and jam. The place itself was was an old fashioned tea room which we loved. Will definitely go back.

⭐️Exceptional ⭐️ I booked an afternoon tea on Saturday for 5 of us and we all had an amazing time. Thank you so much to James, Charlie and Drew they were so welcoming and had our table that we requested ready. The afternoon tea was displayed beautifully and a generous amount of sandwiches with different fillings scones and mini cakes. They all tasted delicious and we throughly enjoyed our time at the tea room If you are looking for a special place to have an afternoon tea I totally recommend the ARTea room. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thanks again Jeanne

I booked here because we came here 2 years ago the afternoon tea was amazing then. I now have to agree with the other reviews on here about what is served for afternoon tea we had loads of sandwiches hardly any fillings we couldn't evern work out what was in them. The scones seemed like they were shop brought and the cream was off. Which put us of eating anything. The little cakes seem like they were shop bought too. Also I was accused of not pay in front of the other customers. Which the other assistant confirmed that I did pay. When I complained to the manager a week later as he was on hoilday for a week he told me I was confused I must have be somewhere else! Well I am not confused! PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!

Went for afternoon tea as a birthday present for my mother, hmmmm looked very nice but a lot of the sandwiches had lack of filling bread was dry as though they had been made earlier, sandwiches cut very small to make the plate look full, cakes where ok nothing special clotted cream for the scones very runny, very pricey afternoon tea for what you got disappointed wouldn’t recommend first and last time I’ll visit.

If you’re reading this considering visiting, read to the end re the photos. The pictures speak for themselves. But the 4th one is categorically NOT from this place There was a lot of food. But, it was poor quality and badly presented. There’s no place for hummus in a sandwich imho. Other than that it was hard to establish what fillings were as there was barely any. The scones were budget supermarket, the carrot cake ? was potentially homemade but again a weird choice for afternoon tea and we got a crusty corner. We used a Buyagift voucher we’d been given and it was one of the few places covered by the voucher that didn’t require extra payment. On paper this seemed my kind of place. But, the ‘art’ was poorly curated hobby crafters. We didn’t even bother looking at it as it’s just tat. The teapot needed a good clean along with the cosy which was grim. Hands down the worst afternoon tea we’ve ever had in an unpleasant environment. I couldn’t even recommend for a cup of coffee. I’ve only given it the extra star because there was a quantity of food. But it was rubbish. I’ve added photos of our visit plus a final one from an exquisite tea taken recently that whilst having no choice of teas (shock horror but who cares really?) was only a fiver more. There was no comparison. And no excise for passing this off as afternoon tea and home bakes.

Enjoyed a very pleasant afternoon tea with my wife. Colourful and well thought out decor incorporating period and hand made items for sale at very reasonable prices. Extensive range of teas available for the adventurous along with very appetising sandwiches and cakes along with friendly and knowledgeable staff made for an enjoyable afternoon out. Thoroughly recommend you give this establishment a try,we will certainly be paying return visits with family and friends in the future

We've just had a lovely afternoon tea here with friends for a special birthday. There was plenty of dainty sandwiches & cakes, & scones with jam & cream, & also grapes, kiwi & strawberries. This was all presented on a china cakestand & served with pretty china plates, & a mega choice of teas & coffee served in china cups & saucers. Very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend a visit here, the tearoom is full of charm & also local handmade crafts for sale. ☆☆☆☆☆

We had previously booked and when we arrived we had a table reserved right by the till, but the place was empty. The afternoon tea sandwiches came out, they were cut into triangles, but they were so small there was hardly any filling and it was mostly crust. Nobody came to see if everything was ok or offer us a re-fill of tea. We have been before and had a lovely afternoon tea, however today’s wasn’t, quite expensive £54 for 3 people for what we received. Will not be returning.

Visited today (7/3/24) and sad to see lots of the artwork and crafts that were for sale in the back room have disappeared/shrunk. As always, the tea and hot chocolate were wonderful. Sadly, my coronation chicken baked potato wasn't great. Could not taste a curry flavour at all and no visible sultanas. My husband had an omelette (mushroom) with salad which was ok. The main cafe room was as remembered, so bought a crocheted blanket and some cards. Nice to visit again (first time this year). Behaved ourselves and didn't have cake (which this tea room has plenty of!). Previous feedback: Open fully once again. Great social distancing seating. Socially distanced table service. Great menu. Excellent food and service. Now open Monday to take full advantage of all 3 days of Rishi Sunak's 50% off meal deals. 🌝 Thoroughly recommend both the XXL Hot Chocolate (although I passed on the mini marshmallows) and the "to die for" Sticky Toffee pudding. Lots to choose from. All great! Enjoy. Outside seating too.

We were greeted by Rowena, who was very friendly and pleasant and showed us to our table. The ambience of the tea room was enjoyable. Rowena brought us the tea menu which was very impressive, 42 different types of tea. My mango tea was delicious and the best part of the afternoon tea experience. There was barely any filling in the sandwiches,( one had no filling!) they were cut haphazardly. The scones were supermarket scones. I would rather of eaten one homemade scone than have been given two of these, the two tiny sponge cake squares were nice. We had been given a voucher as a gift, Rowena discreetly stated the voucher was accepted, however her male colleague stated it very loudly to inform the whole tea room, which was unnecessary. The other food being served looked very nice but we were very disappointed with ours.

Let me start by saying that the owner and I believe the main chef/cook is a delight. He obviously tries his hardest and that's evident in the food, which is, albeit quirky, very tasty. The entire place is quirky and I argue against the reviews that call it 'strange' 'tired' 'dated' and 'like a charity shop'. I happen to think it's different and enjoy its peculiarities, especially since they sell lots of local artists' products which I think is fantastic (as a local author I fully encourage this). It is not the huge menu, which is jam-packed full of everything you could ever want, not in my opinion, the food itself which is always piping hot, yummy and made with a lot of passion and care. It is, I believe, the wait staff who are all, for want of a better word - dippy. They're almost laughable. You give them your order and it'll be a surprise what turns up. I've been there three times, twice for a big family get-to-together and once for lunch and all three times the wait staff have dip dapped about the place, forgetting things, unable to use the till or do basic maths, unable to answer simple questions and promising to do something then seemingly forgetting the moment they've moved away from the table. I'm a patient person so I find this dippiness rather amusing and since I'm usually there at leisure, it's rarely a problem but I feel sorry for the chef as I keep asking for my food to be redone each time. For example, I went in December with a huge family group and since we arrived late, ours was ordered separately so there shouldn't be any confusion. Boy - I asked for a bacon and sausage baguette with mustard without butter (because I have an allergy). I got a bacon and sausage baguette with butter. Had to send it back and the poor chef had to cook it all over again. If the wait staff had just written the order down correctly, no food would have to be wasted. So please don't turn away from this place just because it's a bit quirky. Be patient when you're there and wait for the lovely food to arrive. They do have a big selection of vegetarian and vegan food, and the owner/chef is a lovely guy doing his absolute best. He needs better wait staff who can count and take down orders, but other than that, it's a great place to visit, accommodating of huge parties and serves lovely food in a beautiful location.

Must be decades since I was last at this little Courtyard of what was shops but now services such as dog grooming, beauty and yoga. I had thought to do some Christmas shopping but no such stores now around - so thought I would support the cafe. Pleasant service and good sized cake plus a tasty coffee. Not very busy so can't claim it has much atmosphere and I was on my own so that doesn't lead to a long sit - maybe a newspaper/magazine rack (even old stuff) would help. No complaints. Picked off the geocache nearby and then drove on!

Chose this venue for an Afternoon Tea which was a present given to us by son and daughter-in-law via Buy a Gift. We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea, generous portions of sandwiches and cakes, and large pot of tea. Last but not least, the staff are very pleasant ladies. Thank you again, will definitely visit again.

Went at 1.30pm and sat at a table albeit saying 'reserved from 2.30' but only wanted tea and some cake so thought it would be okay, wasn't planning on staying long. Took 10 minutes to get the attention of member of staff for a menu. Was then approached by owner saying they were backed up in the kitchen so probably it'll take longer than 2.30 for food and asked me to move to another table (no chance for me to explain). Member of staff showed me to the little table in a noisy area right by the drafty door entrance and till. So I left, disappointed, with no tea or cake.

I emailed to request one fussy eater afternoon tea and asked if they could provide plain cheese, cheese and tomato or cucumber sandwiches on plain white bread and had an email back to confirm I also ordered one gluten free tea. The Gluten free tea was poor I appreciate that GF bread is smaller slices but if you are going to offer a GF option then the sandwiches need to be of normal human people size not cut so small that you feel that you are at a dolls tea party the majority of each sandwich was crust and so small every sandwich tasted the same well to be honest had no taste. just because you maybe make two sandwiches per normal tea if the bread is small you need 3 per GF Tea to make them normal sandwiches and as for the cake the brownie was just a tiny piece of crust and there was one piece of cake that was just so wet and sticky it was inedible. As we were having tea at 12:30 we had eaten nothing else beforehand. Mum had the GF Afternoon tea and was poorly all afternoon with terrible tummy ache. There was obviously an element of the tea that had been contaminated. In her case as she is Gluten intolerant it was uncomfortable but not serious. If you are Celiac then I would take care of eating here. As I say for the fussy tea I specifically asked for a very plain cheddar cheese sandwich on white bread I was happy for it to contain tomato or cucumber I received a sandwich that was made of seeded bread containing the thinnest piece of cheese I had ever seen I could not even taste it, it was so thin and it also contained grapes it was awful the other had the same thin pre-packed cheese with some mustard or chutney not at all what I asked for. The overriding taste with them all was awful cheep spread So little filling was in the sandwiches that when they cut them into small pieces. I had at least 3 sandwiches that were just bread and butter. It took ages to order our drinks when they came, we were told that they would be back later to top them up but never came. The scones were nice although they need to invest in proper butter not just cheap spread. The tea came and the Tea cosy's and tea pots were filthy not just stained not that stained is acceptable. The cost of this was £36 for me and mum and honestly it was not worth half I really don't understand how hard it is to make a basic cheese sandwich with Propper cheese. I recommended this to friends as I have eaten here in the past and it was nice but this was embarrassing. What is a real shame is when I mentioned this to a friend they pointed me to trip advisor and these issues we had are similar to those that have been mentioned on here since at least the beginning of last year and reading the reply's from the café instead of addressing them and growing the business they prefer to tell their clients that they are wrong and make excuses. Will recommend no longer or return myself.

We visited this tea room to use a gift voucher although we were rather disappointed with the whole experience. Upon arrival we had to wait a while near the serving area to see a member of staff and were eventually shown to a table and informed someone would be along shortly to take our order. Around 15 minutes passed before a member of staff appeared and asked us what tea would we like. We didn’t have a list of teas so weren’t sure what was available. The server then said they would get us tea menus which were 3 rather tatty pieces of paper, although a large number of teas were available. After a further wait our tea order was taken and another server brought out two tea pots, explaining what they were although got them the wrong way round, resulting in my wife adding milk to a tea that was best served without milk. A 3 tier plate stand then arrived with sandwiches, cakes and scones, which on the face of it looked quite nice, although all the items were of poor quality. The sandwiches were dry and apart from the Brie and cranberry, which were ok, the others contained minimal amounts of tasteless filling. The scones were the best bit, although they were not freshly baked and appeared to have been long life supermarket scones from a packet. The jam and cream were served in re-used plastic pots. There were two types of cake which were not too bad although some small chocolate tarts had a horrible sickly filling. All in all, a rather poor experience and not somewhere we could recommend or go back to.

We have been coming here for a few years now and have always had a great experience, the food is always great and large portions. Today we were disappointed in the service. There were three girls working who didn't approach us once during our visit and we kept having to go to them. We had to ask for menus, ask to make our order, ask for a strainer and it did feel like we were really bothering them. There were also a number of dead bugs/wasps on the window area which put me off my food a little. I think its lovely that you are selling local items but some of them are very dusty which puts me off purchasing.

We visit the ARTea room very frequently and have always received excellent service and delicious food. However one of our friends decided on the 'fish and chips' today and was very disappointed. The fish was very dry and it was overcooked, the batter looked dark brown rather than the golden brown colour you have come to expect with fish. I will say though that the staff could not do enough, they apologised profusely and did not charge for the meal at all. Come on Boss, YOU need to change your supplier of fish as all of the other food is delicious. I am giving 3 stars to the staff, (we would give 5 to the staff but it would give an incorrect reading) NOT the Fish though that would receive NO stars at all - Sorry

Bought a experience as birthday gift, booked a month in advance but when we got there no record of booking, establishment was a old farm shop that looked very tired. Going inside my first impressions was a charity shop with a mixture of various tables and odd chairs that have seen better days. Service was slow and unprofessional, we did not even get a menu to choose what we wanted.. we tried our best to have a good time but I personally felt uncomfortable and just wanted to leave, I did not think what we was given was good value for money , I will be letting the experience company know my overall thoughts on this experience…

I bought a experience gift voucher as a Xmas present for my parents and booked afternoon tea for two. At the time of booking I spoke to a nice lady who I gave the voucher code to and she said that was all she needed. Upon arrival my parents were told they needed the code and would not serve the afternoon tea without it. My mum has had to then call me and I’ve had to retrieve it again for them then to be served. This is definitely not the experience I wanted them to have and ruined their Xmas present. My parents found the venue extremely tired looking and although the theme is an older setting a good clean would be in order. I would advise people not to book this place. A cafe that uses cubed feta cheese as a filling for a afternoon tea sandwich really needs to re learn food standards!!

We ate breakfast here and myself and my husband can confidently say it was one of the best breakfasts we’ve ever had. And that is no polite exaggeration because we know anyone who works there, we genuinely don’t. This week was the first time I had ever visited the ARTea Room and I ended up going twice in one week. Which I think tells you how good it is. I was cheeky and asked for a crispy bacon sandwich as that’s how I prefer it. And it was cooked to perfection, again, no exaggeration. I must say the service in particular was excellent. My Husband had a bacon and egg sandwich and they deliberately didn’t cut it so that the egg wouldn’t run. So considerate! Me and my husband are bitterly disappointed that the tea room is closed over Christmas. But we will be returning there for breakfast, once at reopens.

We asked for an afternoon tea to celebrate our wedding. We asked if they could make us a small cake and we asked if there was somewhere a bit private we could go. They did say that we could go up in the loft room, if we wanted, accessible from the main tearoom and not usually used for anything but storage. They provided an afternoon tea, sandwiches, cream scones etc plus a delicious cake. We were a group of four, bride, groom and two witnesses. Typical looking storage area with a table set for our tea and we absolutely loved it. I loved all the mismatched crockery. Perfect. Staff could not have been friendlier. They bent over backwards for us. We are still talking about it. It won't be for everyone but it was certainly just right for us. Not everyone wants a big wedding bash. We hope to visit again soon and so are our friends. Then of course, there were arts and crafts downstairs. My friend bought a little handknitted cardigan for her new grandaughter.

Venue was lovely and the menu for choices of tea to accompany my afternoon tea was the best I have seen. Sadly, the vegan afternoon tea was severely lacking in any thought and taste. Definitely not worth £18. The sandwich filling was either 'cheese' or not 'cheese', with a piece of lettuce, cucumber, tomato or grape. Even an alternative choice of Houmous would have been appreciated, if only for the protein factor of the meal. The cake choice (non-vegans had 3 different cakes) was one, although 2 slices of it. I believe it was chocolate but just tasted fusty and no-one liked it (even an 8 year old child). Scones hard and no cream to accompany them. I emailed the Manager (James) afterwards to make him aware that vegans did not feel valued as customers and I must say, the response I had back, prompted me to write a review to warn others. It doesn't seem anything will improve any time soon. Shame because apparently the non-vegan options were extremely varied and tasty.

I have never been here before but what a lovely place to have afternoon tea. The tea menu had so many different varieties to choose from. Cherry & chocolate I would have liked to have tried but I stuck to the normal. When the afternoon tea platter came out WOW so much to eat. It beat my husband and I. We were able to take home what we had left. Thank you for a very enjoyable afternoon tea

This was a great place for afternoon tea. The staff were very friendly, the tea rooms are full of fascinating craftwork, and the tea itself was excellent - sandwiches, scones and cakes were all lovely, and in such large amounts that we had to ask for a doggie bag! And there was a vast choice of teas. Very impressed, and will go back again.

I hadn’t visited ARTea for many years but remembered enjoying it in the past. Sadly my return was not a positive experience. Greeted by a harassed looking staff member who, after some delay, took our breakfast order. The food when it arrived didn’t look overly appealing with overcooked bacon & sausages, and a fried egg too thick as it had been cooked in a ring mould. It was edible but was poor quality in comparison to other other breakfasts locally for a similar price. Toast was extra at The ARTea, £2.50 for 2 slices, served with 2 tiny portions of butter (melted as the toast had been placed on top!) not enough to cover the toast and no jam even though it was on the menu description. We could have bought a loaf of bread & pack of butter for less! Cleanliness wasn’t great, the tables appeared dusty & the teapot arrived with a knitted tea cosy which had seen better days. Such a shame, such a nice location, and could be lovely, be it’s not.

I booked this place for a friend and I to have afternoon tea. It was over the Easter holidays so expected it to be busy. Its a quaint place, and whilst it was priced at a modest £38.00 for tea for two it was pretty mediocre. There was nothing "fancy" about it, the coffee was tepid, the service friendly but scant and the afternoon tea itself was very dated. I expected it to be quaint but updated and modern take on it but what arrived were basic tuna, egg mayo and cheese and tomato sandwiches with a dry vanilla cake, carrot cake with an iced carrot on it and dry shop bought scones with tiny pot of cream and jam to share. We were told if we needed more to ask for it but since there was only 1 staff member, she was busy and we didn't bother so ended up skimping on the scone. Really needs a more updated look at the Afternoon Tea as it really doesn't take much even if you are buying in the produce to get better quality. Im afraid I shan't be re-visiting and thats a shame as I think it could be a lot more than it is, just seems to have lost a bit of love. I did not try the regular menu so possibly missed out on that as maybe it is what people rave about.

My first visit today with my daughter , who has been before and told me how great the place is - well I was not disappointed the hot chocolate was divine , the coffee cake - well I will be back for more and then my daughter was not disappointed because on asking if they had egg free cake was told yes! Her words the chocolate cake was fantastic and she’d have had another piece given half a chance! So a huge thumbs up and we willbe back again soon this time for lunch though and a good look round all the crafty items!

Second visit for a lovely lunch with my Mum. Relaxing old worldly atmosphere with friendly service. My Mum had Scampi, chips and peas wash down with a crisp Sauvignon. I had a cheese and ham omelette with a side salad and a slab of Terry chocolate orange shortbread which was to die for accompanied by a Douwe Egberts Cappuccino. We will definitely be visiting again.

A lovely friend introduced me to this delightful welcoming and quirky cafe today. What a treat!Gorgeous vintage decor and background music, a lovely cosy atmosphere with lots of craft items for sale and a barginous 2nd hand clothes rail upstairs - we picked up a shawl and a Superdry jumper for just £4.50!Real value for money for scones with jam and cream plus a lovely fruit garnish and a huge pot of tea. (My friend who had recently experienced a Harrods cream tea, felt this was MILES tastier, not to mention a hell of a lot cheaper!!)All food and drink is served in beautiful mis-matched vintage china. Lovely friendly and helpful staff too.And plentiful parking right outside. A real gem of a tea room and so lovely to be able to support a non-chain enterprise. Will definitely be spreading the word and revisiting v.soon. Thanks all :)*Please note the afternoon tea - sandwiches, scones and cakes requires prior booking to reserve a table. This looked A-mazing and well worth a try from what I saw!

James at the Artea Rooms is an amazing host. The standard here is second to none. He always presents his food in a pleasing way, and the food is of the highest quality, and is always fresh and tasty. This was a special trip for my mother and my Fiancee before Christmas, they had a Proseccco afternoon tea. They came back full of the joys of spring raving about just how good it was. This is, and always will be our goto chaoice for an afternoon lunch with special family. The prices are amazing too.
