Massaman curry was spot on. Pad Thai was fresh and tasty. The best thing by far was the lady serving. What a character! We felt like a guest at her home, I’ll be coming back next time I’m Working near Bangor. Fresh tasty food served by someone who genuinely cares. No rush, just a nice dinner Would recommend

Booked on the reviews posted here. The place is a cafe: formica and all. The food was poor especially the chicken which tasted as if it were boiled: very little taste. No nuts in the Massaman which is usually a constituent. To be fair it was cheap ish £30 for two meals and two beers but I would preferto spend another £10/£15 and get a quality meal. The reviews here do not represent our experience.

A small and humble Thai restaurant. A catch is that it took nearly 50 minuter from order to service. The dish I had, Pad Thai with beef, was yummy.

Service speed was appallingly slow considering there was only one other table in at the same time as us on a mid week day. We waited 55 mins from ordering for our food to arrive and were about ready to walk out. That being said, once the food did finally arrive it was of good quality and a reasonable portion size for the money. I would have given more than two stars if there was any form of apology about the extensive wait, but there was nothing at all.

Fantastic Thai food. I honeymooned in Bali and wow did this meal take me back there. I particularly liked the deep fried chicken wrapped in pandanus leaves. I also liked the simple touch of providing mixed peanuts to have with the chicken satay. For mains we had a beef red curry, chicken yellow curry and pad Thai noodles. All were amazing. Nothing was over cooked, too oily or too salty. I found all the vegetables to be fresh; the bell peppers still had good bite and taste. The green curry was mild and creamy. The red curry had a medium spice that gradually, but pleasantly, built and I though it had good depth and body. My wife said the noodles were some of the best she has ever had. Overall I got the feeling that the family love what they do and that love is put into the food. I will certainly visit again when next in the area and I hope this review brings a smile to encourage the restaurant to carry on. Aroy Dee / Thank you.

For one of the only places in Bangor to serve Thai food, it serves a nice variety of good quality Thai dishes. The food arrived in good time, especially considering that the restaurant was nearly full. The starters were absolutely beautiful. The mains were very nice for a small restaurant. Considering there are no other Thai places in Bangor (as of this review) it was decent. My Thai mother in-law enjoyed the food and said it was pleasant. The pad Thai was okay, and so was the Thai green chicken curry, but would rather pick something else next time.

This is an authentic, family run, Thai Noodle Bar. The menu is not as extensive as some Thai Restaurants, it is a noodle bar, but you get what's on the tin. The décor is clean and plain, as you would expect in a noodle bar, with several Thai carvings displayed on the wall, reminding us that we are in a Thai restaurant. Service is informal and friendly. I started my meal with a spicy Thai seafood soup which was delicious. The rest of the party shared a mixed platter plus a portion of chicken wings. My main coarse was a Thai Green Curry with coconut rice. It was nicely presented and full of spicy flavours. Those used to the full on heat of a vindaloo would find it mild, but it is a Green Curry, not a Vindaloo, favouring a balance of flavour over spoon melting heat. To sum up, a nice relaxing evening was had by all.

Service was good, and the food appeared quickly. The person who served me was pleasant, as are all Thais. The Tom Yum soup was good, a good level of spice (farang spicey not Thai spicey) and I was looking forward to the Pad Thai. The Pad Thai was bland and lacked flavour, although it was well cooked and presented. I love Thai food, so maybe a better choice of food next time. Worth a second visit though.

Went on a Saturday night at 8-00 p.m. with my wife. The table was reserved and did have a reserved notice on it. Service started well, we ordered the combined starter for two, it arrived nicely presented and looked well cooked. The amount food presented compared with other restaurants was on small side, strict portion control appeared to be the order of the day. The food itself was average. For the main course my wife ordered Pennang curry and my self a red curry. The main course arrived and my wife's curry was considered good. My red curry arrived separately and had a piece of potato in it (a massamam curry?) and it did not have any trace of red in it. The waiter was called and asked if this was a red curry and he took the curry away and said it would be replaced. The replacement curry arrived in a very quick time, the beans in it were exceptionally al dente and so was the bamboo shoot, the replacement curry sadly had no taste as I would have expected from a Thai red curry. When it was accepted that the curry was not a red curry no apology was offered for the mistake that had occurred. At no time were we asked if we enjoyed the meal. When I went to pay I did complain, there was no apology made or recompense in ant way. Sadly we will not be returning to this restaurant.

Food is OK but does not have that zing that authentic Thai food should have :(, staff are friendly and they make a great effort which can't be faulted, unfortunately the food seems to lack the main basic Thai ingredients which is a shame and leaves it tasting like Chinese (which is really bland at best), large portions of rice though which is good and reasonably priced, great if you are hungry but don't expect anything that resembles authentic Thai food like you would be eating in Thailand if you order.

This was my second visit to the Aroy Dee, and I was not sure if it was a case of a one-off or not, so this time with more friends. We were seated by the door/bar area and could see the chef (owner) prepareing our meal, a sort of chef's table in a way.It is a family business (from what I gather), where the mother cooks, the daughter is the commis chef/barmaid and the son is front of house, but don't let this fool you.The service is second to none, an absolute treat. The dishes are authentic, tasty and really good value; each one individually prepared. My guest this evening was very well travelled, having just got back from a round trip of Japan, Thailand, Norway, Russia and Israel (this month) and his comments were "one of the best he's tasted".I have already reviewed the Thai Square in Windsor, this is a local equivelent, at half the price.A take-away menu is also available, which I will be sure to use in the very near future if you are a local of Arfon(aka Gwynedd)/Anglesey or just visiting, and want great food at a reasonable cost, this place is a must.

Situated in a quiet spot on Bangor High Street the outside of the Aroy Dee Thai Noodle Bar does not do the restaurant/takeaway justice. It is not a swanky showy place but do not let that put you off. The menu is possibly not as vast as other restaurants but there is plenty of choice and the food is excellent. In a small cooking area all the dishes are freshly cooked and arrive at the table nice and hot and the presentation is always lovely. I could eat there every night. The staff are charming and very attentive and the prices are very reasonable. Do give it a try. We are so glad that we went the first time and it is becoming a regular eating place for us now. There is limited parking on the main road outside but plenty of parking close by and it is just around the corner from the railway station. A takeaway service is also available.

I've been a student here for about 2 years now and always walked past this one since there's no sign of it doing takeaway and it isn't on just eat. Decided to take the plunge today and inquire and they do infact, so I went with the classic Pad Thai (pork). The management were friendly, could see the food being prepared in the kitchen behind the till. Decor was nice and homely, seemed like a family run place. I'd be comfortable having a meal there. The pad thai was really great, very fresh and flavorful and came with lime and nuts on the side (I'm guessing the nuts were separate in case you are allergic?). My only complaint is that the portion size was a little too small, but the quality of the food makes up for it.It's a shame I didn't come here earlier, I think if they were on just eat or something similar they'd get a lot more publicity.

We had intended to try out this place several times, but it was usually closed. Finally, it was open when we called. The 3 out of 5 star hygiene rating on the door as we entered should have been a warning.Service was slow, food was watery and greasy (an unfortunate combination), chicken was tough and rubbery, vegetables badly overcooked, and all the dishes were disappointingly tasteless (except for the taste of grease - yuck). We left most of our food as we couldn't stomach it. Couldn't face anything else to eat that day as the taste of grease was still in my mouth. We shall not be returning, there are plenty of better places in Bangor to eat.

Shared Starter was a large pile of shredded white cabbage with a carved carrot with minute examples of edible bits, some of which were greasy. Fine Noodles with Beansprouts (a) had no Beansprouts & (b) sat on the table for 5 minutes getting cold while we waited for the other dishes. Beef in Oyster Sauce with vegetables had 2 slices of onion & a few lumps of yellow (raw) pepper in a thin oily sauce that tasted of nothing with beef that was tough & tasteless. No hint of Oyster Sauce or a Chilli to be seen.Red Curry with pork saved teh day as we could pour that over the other stuff to get some flavour into the meal. £37:00 for the two us - Chinese 100 yards away would have given us a super meal for two for that sort of outlay.Decor poor, staff casually dressed which matched their attitude & service lamentably slow. Don't mind waiting for freshly cooked HOT food but being kept waiting for tepid, bland small portions is taking the micky.Won't be going back assuming they survive

We were a large group of 9 so booked ahead but needn't have bothered, the place was empty. Unfortunately despite this we were all waiting for about an hour for our meal. The thai curries both red and green were nice (had better, and could cook to the same level myself), however the rice was very disappointing, cold and very starchy. Several people ordered various noodle dishes and commented that they were 'ok'. But 2 people ordering pad thai actually couldn't eat the dish. They serve all plates with flowers and shapes cut out of inedible raw vegetables, but this isn't really neccessary, particularly not if it is done at the expense of getting the meals out in a decent time. The atmosphere is a bit awkward but the staff are very nice. Perhap don't go as a group that big, or with particularly high expectations of an amazing meal.

Was in the area and decided to have Thai food. First impression of the restaurant was clean and a few other tables of diners so a good sign. I ordered the pandanus chicken starter and felt that there should be more seasoning but still quite good. The pad Thai was again quite good although I have tasted better. One point to note is that there is a distinct lack of music and was explained by the waiter that it was a cost reduction exercise as otherwise they would have to pay a licence fee. I was fine with that but it just felt a little odd to dine with no background music. The portion size was generous and the choices varied.

This is properly cooked, delicious, vibrant Thai cuisine in Bangor on a budget. The menu has a sensible range of classic Thai dishes which you can select and add tofu, chicken, pork, beef or seafood to suit your own taste. There are five types of curry dishes for example - I had the yellow curry (with seafood) which was beautifully flavoured with a punch of heat, sweetness of coconut and sour notes of lime leaves, lemon grass etc.The interior is basic, cafe-style, but because of this and the sensible menu, you'll find the value-for-money excellent. In fact, you can't go wrong. The welcome and service was perfect too. We will be returning regularly for a splash of real taste!

We went on the 21st December for my birthday (i had been there before with friends and wanted to share how good it was with my family) As soon as you're through the door you're greeted with a smile by the family who run it. The restaurant is bright and clean. A good choice of Thai favourites (i recommend the Thai green Curry), gorgeous coconut rice, wave after wave of flavour, beautifully presented with carved veggies. I had not mentioned that it was a special occasion, but the waiter, having overheard that it was my birthday, offered a desert of sweet mango rice and home made coconut ice cream, which we six of us shared together in glee. All of us ate for under £60, which is just a steal. Please support this new place and treat yourself at the same time! You wont regret it!

Great food and Jim is such a nice man, and a great chef, the flavours he created were amazing, Think it was a bit lucky we were the only table (6 of us) as Jim was on his own, he did a great job, if there were more customers I would happily have jumed in to help even though I retired from the catering business many years ago it never really leave you.
